Gertrude L. Whitener
MALVERN - Gertrude Lucas Whitener, 86, of Malvern died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in a Hot Springs nursing home.

Born Jan. 29, 1916, at Scranton to Neely and Nellie Henderson Lucas, she was a homemaker and member of First Assembly of God Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Eugene Whitener; one brother, Lloyd Lucas; and one sister, Anna Bell Adams.

Survivors include two sons, David Whitener of Jacksonville and Michael Whitener of Bigelow; one daughter, Carolyn Sampson of Malvern; two brothers, Bill Lucas of Rogers and Arles Lucas of Jacksonville; one sister, Inda Robinson of Malvern; four grandchildren, Nathan Whitener, Heather Whitener, Nicholas Whitener and Catherine Whitener; and one great-granddaughter.

The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Atkinson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Burrow officiating.

Burial will be in Harp cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

James B. Worley
James Buren Worley, 60, of Hot Springs died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Hot Springs.

Born Oct. 26, 1942, at Nashville, he was a taxi driver and Baptist. He was predeceased by his father, Herman Worley; and his step-father and mother, James L. and Sara Roberts.

Survivors include five sisters, Barbara Fisher of Lonsdale, Frances Pamplin of Monticello, Evelyn Hunter of Yorktown, Texas, Billy Ruth Roberts of Port Aransas, Texas, and Henrietta Finch of Conway; five brothers, Ricky Roberts of Smackover, Clarance Roberts of Bauxite, Leroy Roberts of Tablerock, Kenneth Roberts of San Antonio and Lester Roberts of Little Rock; nieces; and nephews.

Arrangements will be announced by Gross Funeral Home.

Willie B. Almond
BISMARCK - Willie Bruce Almond, 68, of Bismarck died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in a Hot Springs hospital.

Born Aug. 5, 1934, at Bismarck to Dewey and Helen Tyler Almond, he was a DeGray State Park supervisor, U.S. Navy veteran and member of DeRoche Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Newboles Almond; one son and daughter-in-law, Clay and Elizabeth Almond of Arkadelphia; one daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Jim Austin of Gravelly; one brother, Vance Almond of Malvern; one sister, Jean Orr of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in DeRoche Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Chris Morrison officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Almond, Randy Almond, Chad Almond, Paul Orr, Ron Riley, Thomas "Binky" House, Danny Ashley and Mickey Strother.

Honorary pallbearers are DeGray State Park employees, Mac Balkman, Stan Graves, Drs. Robert McCrary, John Wayne Smith, B.D. Fine, David DeSoto, Robert Johnson, Jerome Barnes and Kimberly Agee, St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center two east and ICU nursing staffs, DeGray Kidney Center and Hot Springs Dialysis Center.

Burial will be in DeRoche cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to DeRoche cemetery Fund.

Arrangements are by Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home, Arkadelphia.

Albert Blackman
MALVERN - Albert Blackman, 66, of Malvern died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in a Hot Springs hospital.

Born March 8, 1936, to Edgar and Bernice Murdock Blackman, he was a self-employed pulpwd contractor and Baptist. He was predeceased by one son, Michael Blackman.

Survivors include his wife, Ollie Mae Blackman of Malvern; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Albert and Willie B. Blackman Jr. of Hot Springs and Eddie Blackman and Anthony Blackman, both of Malvern; two daughters and one son-in-law, Clementine and Willie Hopkins and Christine Blackman, all of Malvern; one brother, Leon Blackman of Malvern; his father-in-law, Ira Butler of Malvern; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The service will be 11 a.m. Monday in Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. F.D. Newburn officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Joan Community.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The family will be at 1524 Clark St.

Arrangements are by Brandon's Mortuary, Malvern.

Vera Crews
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE - Vera Crews, 88, of Hot Springs Village died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Houston and attended Balboa Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her parents, L.Z. and Myra Ashurst; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Vera and William Gibbons of Hot Springs Village and Barbara Lee Pugh of Houston; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Judge Paul Pressler and Rick Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Sea Side Memorial, Corpus Christi, Texas.

Arrangements are by CedarVale Funeral Home.

Cheryl L. Eason
BISMARCK - Cheryl Lynn Eason, 27, of Bismarck died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in Hot Springs.

Born April 6, 1975, at Arkadelphia to Ronnie and Connie Eason, she was an assistant manager at Maurice's and member of Bismarck Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her fiance, Stewart Shoptaw; her parents; one brother, Toby Lee Eason of Bismarck; one sister, Lolita Wallum of Arkadelphia; and her grandmother, Irene Gaither of Bismarck.

The service will be 11 a.m. today in Bismarck Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Bray officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bob Ck, Tracey Gaither, Terry Eason, Ray Shoptaw, Kenny Mr and Sean Ostrus.

Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Bennett, Keith Wallum, Terry Crump, Jeriod Bray and Timmy Bray.

Burial will be in New Bismarck cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bismarck Missionary Baptist Church or New Bismarck cemetery.

Arrangements are by Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home, Arkadelphia.

Robert L. Grimes
Robert Louis Grimes, 62, of Hot Springs died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday in St. John's Catholic Church.

The body will be cremated.

Visitation will be 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday with rosary recited at 6 p.m. at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church or the humane society.

Betty J.W. Lochen
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE - Betty Jean Wasley Lochen, 83, of Hot Springs Village died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at a Hot Springs hospital.

Born Nov. 17, 1919, in Park Ridge, Ill., she was a choir member at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Lochen.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Barbara Lochen of Glenview, Ill., Thomas and Kerry Lochen of Fthill Ranch, Calif., and John and Tara Lochen of Oakland, Calif.; five grandchildren, Jason Lochen, Ian Lochen, Mitchell Lochen, Kelsey Lochen and Benjamin Lochen; and one brother, James Wasley of Hot Springs Village.

The service will be 2 p.m. today at the home. A memorial service will be held Dec. 7 in Park Ridge.

Burial will be in Maryhill cemetery, Niles, Ill.

Arrangements are by Caruth Village Funeral Home.

Lawrence Marten
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE - Lawrence Marten, 84, of Hot Springs Village died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002.

He was a retired Cincinnati Time Recorder salesman and member of Christ Lutheran Church and Nine-Hole Golf Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Blanche Marten.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Denise Marten of Rhinelander, Wis.; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Alan Jackson of Sliver Spring, Md.; one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Gertrude Marten of Appleton, Wis.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Lutheran Church with Dr. Charles E. Gilmore officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Music Fund, 103 Ponferrada Way, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.

Arrangements are by CedarVale Funeral Home.

Angel McElroy
MOUNTAIN PINE - The service for Angel McElroy, infant, of Mountain Pine who died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, will be 1 p.m. Monday in Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church with Brother James F. Lambert Jr. officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are W.H. McDaniel, Keith McElroy, Robert Jackson and Darnell Hudson.

Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park, Hot Springs.

Arrangements are by Caruth-Hale Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
