Hazel Hall

PORTIA -- Hazel Hall, age 92, of Portia passed away Monday. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Sharp of West Memphis; a sister, Opal Goza of Black Rock; two grandsons, Terry Sharp and Tim Sharp; three nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bryan Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Brand officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Forest Cemetery under the direction of the Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m.

Charleen Harvell

LUXORA -- Charleen Harvell, 70, of Luxora died Dec. 29 of a stroke in Great River Medical Center at Blytheville. Born Jan. 19, 1934, at Luxora, she was a homemaker and a member of the Gospel Temple Church at Luxora, where she was a choir member and a member of the mother board.

She is survived by her husband, Lonnie Harvell; four daughters, Jean Harvell Cole of Luxora, Barbara Oldums of

Arlington, Texas, Carol Smith Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., and Janice Washington of Memphis; three sisters, Bertha Nelums of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Viola Tenort and Kathleen Yarbrough, both of Chicago; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday in Charles Strong Recreational Center at Luxora with the Rev. Michael McKinnie officiating. Burial will follow at Whiteside Cemetery in Osceola. No visitation is planned. Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola is in charge of arrangements.

Robert C. Hope

LITTLE ROCK -- Robert C. "Bob" Hope, 71, retired major general of the United States Army Reserve, of Little Rock died Dec. 30. He was a member of the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hope; daughters and sons-in-laws, Sherry Bates and husband Larry, Gayle Marcks and husband Tom, Dotty Sonnemaker and husband Scott, and Marci Taylor; son and daughter-in-law, John and Michelle Hope; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral was Tuesday, with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Larry Kidd

PARAGOULD -- Tax collector Larry Kidd, 61, died Saturday, Dec. 31. "Butch" served Greene County eight terms and is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ann; sister, Nelda Hood; children, Trey Bailey and Dee Studebaker, their spouses, and four grandchildren.

Memorial service is at 2 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Samuel McHalffey Jr.

TRUMANN -- Mr. Samuel David "S.D." McHalffey Jr., 84, of Trumann died Monday, Jan. 2, in St. Elizabeth's Place at Jonesboro.

Born in Black Oak, he had lived most of his lifetime in Trumann. He was a retired factory worker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cordie Lou McHalffey; one sister; five brothers; and was the son of the late Samuel D. Sr. and Fannie Bell Edwards McHalffey.

Survivors include two sons, Clovis McHalffey of Jonesboro and L. C. McHalffey of Trumann; two daughters, Kathryn Sue Martin of Cullman, Ala., and Kay Strait of Pocahontas; three sisters, Virginia Hunt, Loretta Holden and Wilma Wucherpfening, all of Trumann; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Nettleton Cemetery at Jonesboro, with the Rev. Donald Strait officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Don Taylor Norris

POUGHKEEPSIE -- Don Taylor Norris, 90, of Poughkeepsie went to be with the Lord on Jan. 3 in the White River Medical Center at Batesville. He was born June 17, 1915, at Poughkeepsie to George and Tishie Taylor Norris.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. today at Little Springs Missionary Baptist Church at Poughkeepsie with W. E. Norris and Donis Smead officiating. Burial will follow at the Spotts Cemetery at Poughkeepsie, with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Elsie Mae Morrow Parrish

CORNING -- Funeral services for 96-year-old Elsie Mae Morrow Parrish, who died Jan. 2, at her residence in Corning, will be at 2 p.m. today in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel at Piggott. Interment will be in the Piggott Cemetery.

Visitation is at 1 p.m. today in the chapel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethridge and Sarah Dennison Morrow; husband, Furman Parrish; and three sisters, Rachel, Lillian and Dora.

Survivors are a son, Kenneth Parrish; a daughter, Thelda Moody; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Calvin Mark Pattin

ASH FLAT -- Calvin Mark Pattin, 79, died at his home Friday. He was a veteran of the Navy and a retired riverboat captain. His wife, Gracie Irene Pattin, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Arthur L. "Peanut" and Shirley Pattin of Ravenden Springs, retired Air Force CMSG Patricia S. Hackworth of Texarkana, and retired Army MSG Michael E. and Deborah O. Bradley of Ravenden Springs; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home, with Robert Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in Janes Cemetery with military honors provided by Promberger-Traw Post No. 4556 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at McNabb's.

Woodrow Shrable

PARAGOULD -- Woodrow Shrable, 92, of Paragould passed away Jan. 2, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born March 23, 1913, at Vidette, he was a retired farmer and a member of Southside Church of God.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Leo Shrable of Linden, Mich., David Leroy Shrable of Paragould and Earl Franklin Shrable of Mobile, Ala.; and three daughters, Elnora Perry of Leachville, Rosetta Lorren of Paragould, and Anna Lois Burrow of Leachville. He is also survived by four brothers, Goldman Shrable of Flint, Mich., O. A. "Jack" Shrable of Paragould, Bill Johnson of Manila and Ray Peters of Paragould; a sister, Luecretia Riley of Paragould; 16 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and by 16 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Odessie and John Cleveland Shrable; his wife, Annie Shrable; a daughter, Patricia Lambert; a brother, Lee Shrable; and by a sister, Marie Woodhouse.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Kelvin Page, Ryan Shrable and Rocky Shrable officiating. Grandsons, Charles Shrable, Kevin Shrable, Tony Shrable, Joel Burrow, Rocky Shrable, Ryan Shrable, Perry Keith Lorren and Tran Burrow will serve as pallbearers.

Edith Juanita Smith

PARAGOULD -- Edith Juanita Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed peacefully from this life in the early morning hours of Jan. 3 in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

She was born Feb. 26, 1918, in Leachville, where she married, raised a family, and worked most of her life. She was 87 years of age, having her final years with constant company of family and friends in Paragould.

Possessed of a strong moral character of uncommon strength and uncompromising standards and shaped by a sweet spirit of generous wit and genuine warmth, she will be lovingly remembered by her survivors, including two daughters, Sarah Hitt of Paragould and Joann Clark of Helena; four grandsons, Curtis Hitt of Paragould, Ron Hitt of Greenwood, and Cliff Clark and Mitch Clark, both of Helena; two brothers, Ralph Wells of Leachville and James Wells of Paragould; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Wells and Sarah Loretta Wells, and siblings, Carl Wells, Charles Wells, Johnny Wells, Velma Patterson, Ailene Wells and Mary Beal.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Leachville. Her grandson, Curtis Hitt, Esq., pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Paragould, will officiate the formal services.

The family will receive visitors this evening from 6-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Leachville.

Robert White

LEBANON, Ill. -- Robert White, 87, of Lebanon, Ill., formerly of Corning, died Jan. 1. He was a retired carpenter.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was untied in marriage to Eumila Blanton White. They had been married 63 years.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert White Jr. of O'Fallon, Mo.; three daughters, Joyce Buckley of St. Peters, Mo., Connie McLaughlin of Rosebud, Mo., and Kathy Souders of St. Louis; one brother, Melvie White of Rockford, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the Ermert Funeral Home at Corning. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Corning Cemetery.

Floyd Thomas Young

RECTOR -- Funeral services for 85-year-old Floyd Young of Rector, who died on Jan. 2, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the New Life Christian Center with the Rev. Philip La Rue officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the church.

Irby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
