Paul Butler Carter

CLARKSDALE, Miss. -- Paul Butler Carter, age 89, of Clarksdale, Miss., formerly of Leachville, died Wednesday at his home.

Born at Saffel, he was the son of the late Henry and Abby Ann Carter and had been a longtime Leachville resident before moving to Clarksdale four years ago. He was a retired farmer and member of the Leachville Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Leila Carter, and later by his second wife, Mrs. Pauline Carter.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sharrel Clark of Clarksdale, Miss., and Mrs. Ruth Ann Keith of Leachville; one stepson, Gary Buck of Jonesboro; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Pat Graham of Granger, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville, with Dr. Jimmy Anderson and Mr. Gary Buck officiating. Committal service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Cook Cemetery in Scopus, Mo. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Clowell Croom

POCAHONTAS -- William Clowell Croom, 81, died in Randolph County Medical Center Tuesday.

His wife, Essie Croom, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two brothers, Roy Croom of Jonesboro and Dewey Croom of Las Vegas.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Nelson Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Spikes Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at McNabb's.

Mary Sue Cummings

CORNING -- Funeral services for 73-year-old Mary Sue Cummings, who died Jan. 3 at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro, will be at 2 p.m. today in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway. There will be a short visitation from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott before the funeral.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Opal Davis Cummings.

Survivors include one brother, Gary Cummings of Corning; one sister, Ruth Green of Bellevue, Neb.; nieces, nephews, and many friends at the Clay Health Care Center.

Irvin E. Davis

STOKES -- Irvin E. Davis, 82, died Tuesday at Randolph County Medical Center. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Gotthardt Davis; two sons, Donnie Ray Davis of Maynard and Billy Lee Davis of Imboden; a daughter, Kay Inness of Stokes; sister, Wilma Evans of Pocahontas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday in McNabb Funeral Home Chapel, with Arville Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at McNabb's.

Lucille Gambill

JONESBORO -- Lucille Gambill, 83, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born at Enid, Okla., Mrs. Gambill lived much of her life in Jonesboro and was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Swan of Bono; four sons, Gary Davis of Newton, Kan., Larry Davis of Kentucky, Don Barton of Rogers and Steve Pilcher of Alva, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Norma Sharp of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Marva Slaven of Rector; a brother, Charles Riley of Newton; 16 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. William "Dub" Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Chuck Goodson, Shane Goodson, Jeff Taylor, Kenny Swann, J.B. Taylor and J.W. Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers include Donnie Barton and Ronnie Barton.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Emerson Funeral Home.

Russell H. Ligon

WYNNE -- Russell H. Ligon, 62, of Wynne died Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Voyles Ligon of Wynne; son, Trevis Daryl Ligon of Drumonds, Tenn.; daughter, Stacey Langley of Coppell, Texas; mother, Ruby Ligon of Wynne; sisters, Mona McClintock of Wynne and Melissa Hamilton of Searcy.

Mr. Russell was a retired road driver for Roadway Express. He was a peace time veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force.

Services at 11 a.m. Friday at Kernodle Funeral Home.

Burial in Cogbill Cemetery.

Visitation from 6-8 p.m. today at Kernodle Funeral Home.

Jean Doty Owen

PIGGOTT -- Jean Doty Owen, 68, of Piggott died Jan. 3. Her husband, Julius, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Holland of Reyno; one son, Todd Doty and wife Sarita of Bryon, Ga.; four grandchildren, Terrence, Keegan, Morgan, and Taylor; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sonya Holcomb and husband Bud of Piggott.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday in the Hoggard Chapel with Bro. Jerry Massey officiating. Burial is in the Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard & Sons of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation is at 6 p.m. today.

Richard Mack Scott

JONESBORO -- Richard Mack Scott, 68, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at his residence.

Funeral services will be announced by Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Joe Brown Wray

PARAGOULD -- Joe Brown Wray, 76, died Wednesday at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was born June 13, 1929, in Etowah, the son of the late Atha Thomas and Pearl Basham Wray. He retired from Mapco and had also worked at Thermogas.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward H. Wray; sisters, Billie Lovelace and Mary Smith; and a grandchild, Sidney Wray.

He is survived by his wife, Leeoma Saylor Wray of the home; sons, Rob Wray of Sherwood, Ore. and Bodie Wray of Jonesboro; daughter, Paula Sue Walters of Jonesboro; stepdaughter, Tootie Saylor Colbert of Crestwood, Mo.; stepsons, John Saylor of Emminence, Mo., David Saylor of Tulsa, Okla., Paul Saylor of Checotah, Okla.; adopted nephew, Michael Smith of Paragould; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. tonight at Heath Funeral Home. Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Curt Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Eddie Tedder, Jerry Scheer, Carl Newboles, Dee Milan, Larry Wright, and Bill Thompson.

Mallie Mae Hill Beason

JONESBORO -- Mallie Mae "Granny" Hill Beason, 83, of Jonesboro died Saturday, Jan. 7, at her daughter's home in Jonesboro, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Walls, Miss., she lived in Jonesboro most of her live and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include five sons, Buck Hill of Imboden and Bill Hill, Ricky Hill, Terry Hill and Randy Hill, all of Jonesboro; four daughters, Sally Schafer of Pocahontas and Patti Tippitt, Teresa Hill and Kimberly Staggs, all of Jonesboro; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Hill; her husband Billy F. Beason; two sons, Leon Hill and David Hill; her parents, Willard Spencer and Pearlie Hanners Spencer; and one sister, Irene Hicks.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel, with John Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Norman Leonard, Larry Harper, Ray Horton, Doug Box, Shannon Tippitt and Mike Noles.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.
