JESSIE LOCKE

Jessie Cledous Locke, 78, born in Fountain Hill, died Feb. 26, 2007.

He was retired after 28 years of service from the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Zona Locke; a daughter, Jan Davis of Beebe; two sons, Curt Locke of Florida and Mike Locke of Texas; a granddaughter, Jennifer Mitchell of Missouri; grandsons, Curtis Locke, Chad Locke and Chase Locke, all of Florida; one sister, Valeria Smith of Louisiana; and a brother, Julian Locke of Quitman.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1 at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke with Interment in Hicks cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the funeral home.

RICHARD GRAY

Richard Merton Gray, 67, of Jacksonville passed away Feb. 24, 2007.

He was born April 28, 1939 in Youngstown, N.Y., to the late Clifton and Catherine Gray.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his three sons, Richard Dean Gray of Clarendon, Pa., David Neal Gray of Wrightstown, N.J., and Lynn Meabon of Falconer, N. Y.; one daughter, Kimberly Monteleone of Columbus, Ind.; two sisters: Melinda Best of Falconer, N.Y., and Melissa Pierce of Jamestown, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his companion, Sena Clair of Jacksonville.

Services are private.

Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot.

JULIETTE NEWTON

Juliette R. Newton, 81, of Jacksonville went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 23, 2007 in North Little Rock.

She was born March 30, 1925 in Shamrock, Texas, to the late Joseph and Sophinia Richardson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Rev. Leonard L. Newton, as well as nine brothers and sisters.

Rev. and Mrs. Newton served as pastor and pastor's wife for several Southern Baptist churches in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Survivors include her daughters, Janie Jackson and husband Don of Jacksonville, Julia Wonsch of Okmulgee, Okla., and Janice Movlai and husband Abbas of Edmond, Okla.; one son, Jeffrey Newton and wife Shelley of Azel, Texas; two brothers and a sister, Thurman and Newton Richardson and Dorothy Mansel, all of Texas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Feb. 26 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Kirksey officiating.

Interment was in the Okmulgee cemetery in Okmulgee, Okla.

OCY BUCHER, 97

Ocy Pearl Bucher, 97, passed away Dec. 31, 2005 at Cabot Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Cabot.

Ocy was born Sept. 28, 1908 in Brooklyn, Mo., to the late Isaac Talton and Laura Jane Edson Williams.

Ocy graduated from Ridgeway High School, Ridgeway, Mo.

She professed her commitment to God at an early age and became a member of Ridgeway Methodist Church in Ridgeway, Mo.

On July 26, 1930 she was united in marriage to Lloyd S. Jones of Eagleville community until his death in 1943.

Ocy Moved to Kansas City, Mo., in 1944 and worked at Gay Gibson Dress Factory until her retirement in 1973.

On Nov. 8, 1948 she and Phillip B. Bucher were married in Kansas City, Mo.

Ocy was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, sisters; Jewell Nelson, Ruby Burnette and Opal Foutch as well as one brother, Kenneth Williams.

She is survived by two children, Robert L. Jones and wife, Carolyn, of Kansas City, Mo., and Dawnna J. Huitt and husband, Roger, of Lonoke.

Her surviving sister is Arlynn Strait and husband, Bob of Moses Lake, Wash.; two brothers, Dean Williams and wife, Maxine of Ridgeway, Mo., and Russell Williams and wife, Kathleen of Gilman City, Mo.

Ocy was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Many nieces, nephews and other friends and family also survive her.

Ocy was a union steward for the Ladies' Garment Union for many years and always took her job very seriously.

She also was affiliated with the American Business Women Association, and her association with these organizations gave her the opportunity to travel.

She was an avid swimmer and sports fan and remained loyal to the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals teams.

Always young-at-heart, full of opinions and advice, she will be remembered by many friends, family and associates.

Ocy's preference was cremation and Moore's Funeral Home in Cabot is assisting with her last wishes.

There will be no services in Arkansas, and the family has requested no flowers.

Those who would like to honor her memory may make a donation to: South Bend United Methodist Church, Youth Fund, Treasurer, 140 McDonald Drive, Lonoke, Ark. 72086.

HELEN HOLCOMB, 87

Helen Louise Howell Holcomb, 87, of Austin, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Woodrow W. Hughes and Ernie Holcomb, her son, John H. Hughes, and her parents, Hardy and Oma Howell.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Tiffany Dodson and her husband Donny of Austin and David N. Hughes of Jacksonville, and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Whitney and Matthew Dodson.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Oak Grove cemetery, Lonoke County.

Arrangements are by Westbrook Funeral Home.

FRANNA JOHNSON, 50

Franna Emery Johnson, 50, of Benton died Dec. 27, 2005 in an automobile accident in Judsonia.

She was of the Church of Christ faith, and worked as a former longtime loan officer for First Security Bank and was a recent loan assistant for Summit Bank of Benton.

She was a 1973 graduate of Grubbs High School.

She was the daughter of Marvin Emery Sr. and Mary Bowen Emery.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Johnson; two daughters, Amy Jewell of Searcy and Brooke Johnson of Little Rock; two sons, Chad Johnson of Bradford and Brad and his wife Gina Jewell of Searcy; a sister, Sharon Smith of Bradford; a brother, Marvin Emery Jr. of Beebe, and three grandchildren, Brennan Hulsey, Greenly Jewell and Elizabeth Jewell; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday at Possum Grape Church of Christ with minister Shane Otts and pastor Brian Moore officiating.

Interment was at Heard cemetery in Bradford.

Arrangements by Powell Funeral Home of Bald Knob-Judsonia.

Thelma Waymire

Thelma Louise Waymire, 80, of Beebe, formerly of Pangburn, died May 7, 2006.

She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Norman of Illinois and Melinda Sue Eubanks of Kansas City, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, Pamela Laymon of Greenbrier, Tamera White of Friendswood, Texas, Randy Corpening of Virginia, Christinia Morrison of Tulsa, Okla., Aaron Cooper of Tennessee, Dewey Cooper of Tulsa, Okla., Melinda Weiser of Illinois, James Eubanks of Kansas City, Kan., Lottie Eubanks of Texas and Krystal Eubanks of Kansas City, Kan.; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with cremation to follow.

Edna Smith

Edna Smith was born Aug. 9, 1924, in Crisfield, Md., and departed June 9, 2006.

She is survived by five children: Allen and wife Susan Smith of Vilonia, Victor and wife Debi Smith and Troy and wife Belinda Smith of California, Sandra Smith of Washington and April Smith of Vilonia; six grandchildren and eight great-grandkids.

She has lived in Arkansas for the past 10 years.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Cabot.

Interment will be in Maryland.

Arrangements are by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

BOBBY WEST

U.S. Army Specialist Bobby Russell West, 23, of Beebe was killed May 30, 2006, while serving in Iraq.

He attended Beebe High School.

He is survived by his father, Ricky West of Carlisle; his mother, Linda Wiggins West of Beebe; one brother, Patrick West, stationed with the Army in Iraq; grandmother, Syble West of Carlisle; aunts, Marge Liddle of North Little Rock, Marcella Wiggins of Little Rock, Marie Smith of Alabama and Jan Anderson of Carlisle; and uncle, Leonard Wiggins of Searcy.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Beebe First Baptist Church, with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.

Memorials may be made to National Guard Family Assistance, 6402 Missouri Avenue, Bldg. 6402, North Little Rock, Ark., 72199.

VIRTREE PEELER

Virtree Peeler, 79, of Cabot, was born Aug. 1, 1926, at Beebe to Arthur and Rosie Wilson Moss.

She passed away June 3, 2006.

She was a Baptist and was retired from Remington Arms.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.D. Peeler Jr. and her parents.

She is survived by son, James Peeler of Cabot; daughters, Glenda Achten and Dianne Cathey and husband, Mark all of Maumelle; her sister, Tempie Wells of Indio, California; grandchildren, Angie Heffner and husband Bobby of Romance, Stephanie Cathey of Little Rock, Sara Servin and husband Luis of San Antonio, Texas, and Matthew Peeler of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Bobby Heffner, Jr. and Emmalee Heffner both of Romance.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe with burial in Old Austin cemetery.
