ARLES LUCAS

Arles F. Lucas, 74, of Jacksonville, passed away Feb. 3, 2006. He was the son of Neely Lucas and Nellie Henderson Lucas.

He was in the Air Force for 26 years and retired as a master sergeant.

He enjoyed his woodworking and especially his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jo Lucas, one daughter, Gina Summers and husband Bill, one son, Bruce Lucas and wife Tammy all of Jacksonville, one brother, Bill Lucas and wife Mariam of Rogers, two grandsons, Ryan Summers and wife Jacinda and Brandon Summers all of Jacksonville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Monday at Rest Hills Memorial Park with Jimmie Sheffield officiating.

Memorials can be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark., 72204.

DUSTIN HARRIS

Dustin Miller Harris, 13, of Cabot, died Feb. 2, 2006.

He was born May 20, 1992, to Jerry Harris and Lisa Whittington Beebe in Hope.

Harris was a member of Cabot United Methodist Church, a student at Cabot Junior High North where he was on the football team; he also enjoyed video games and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, W.C. Beebe of Hope and Ed Harris of Prescott.

He is survived by his parents: Lisa and Tom Beebe of Cabot, Jerry and Denise Harris of Prescott; brother, Shane Harris of Prescott; stepbrothers: Kyle Beebe and wife, Jennifer of Hope, Jeremy Woods of Prescott; stepsister, Tara Beebe of Sherwood; aunts, Jo Rayborn of East Camden, Jenny Throgmorton of Spanish Fork, Utah, Marsha Blackburn of Lake Village; uncle, Ron Whittington of North Richland Hills, Texas; grandparents, Carol and Lloyd Braden of Deann, Ruth Beebe of Hope; numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins from Prescott and Hope.

Services were held Monday at Cabot United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Lancaster officiating.

Burial will be at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Prescott.

Arrangements are by Moore's Cabot Funeral Home.

ANN KNOX

Ann E. Knox, 74, of Beebe died Saturday, February 4, 2006.

She was a member of Beebe Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, I. V. Knox.

She is survived by two sons, Larry and wife Deborah Knox of El Paso and Johnny and wife Kathy Knox of Beebe; one daughter, Vickie Fowlkes of Beebe; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Davidson and Brenda Roth of Brooksville, Ky.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with burial at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements by Westbrook Funeral Home.

CLARENCE HALE

Clarence Herschel 'Doby' Hale, 75, of Vinity died Feb. 5, 2006.

He was well known for his catfish cooking.

Clarence was the dedicated president of Cheek cemetery, and past Road Commissioner of White County.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Ott Hale and his parents, James K. and Martha Hale.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Garrison Hale; his son, Jimmy Hale; his brother, Marion Hale and wife Glenda, all of Vinity; his sister-in-law, LaVerne Hale and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial at Cheek cemetery.

Leon Sorrells

Leon Bradford Sorrells, 92, of Jacksonville died Nov. 10, 2006.

He was born May 8, 1914 in Holly Springs, to the late Lester B. and Frankie Crownover Sorrells.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Burnham.

Mr. Sorrells was a Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville and a fan of the world champion St. Louis Cardinals and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Mr. Sorrells served on the Jacksonville City Council from 1959 through 1969.

During his council time Jacksonville was upgraded to a First Class City and Little Rock Air Force Base was brought into the city limits.

He also served as court clerk under Judges Reed Williamson and Robert Batton.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Berniece Ashcraft Sorrells; two daughters, Kay Smart and Lee Kipp, both of Jacksonville; a sister, Martha R. Atkins of Camden; four grandchildren; Karen Halland husband William of Conway, Kathy Smart of Columbia, South Carolina, Kay Harris of Orlando, Florida, and Brent Kipp and wife Caroline of Buda, Texas, six great-grandchildren; Katie Hall, Ginnie Hall, Ernie Harris, Bradford Harris, Noel Harris and Ivan Kipp.

Funeral services were Nov. 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with the Rev. Tim Carter and the Rev. Don Hall officiating.

Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Arrangements were by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home.

Lonnie Shannon

Lonnie Ann Shannon, 53, of Jacksonville, is resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

She went to be with the Lord on Nov. 23, 2006.

She was born May 20, 1953 to Darrell and Christine Moore Van Schaack on Mare Island, Calif.

Lonnie is preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Van Schaack.

Survivors include her loving husband, Jim Shannon; her parents, Darrell and Christine Van Schaack of Vallejo, Calif., and her son, Brandon Shannon of Jacksonville.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to "Shannon's Hope" c/o Christ in Action, P.O. Box 4200 Manassas, Va. 20108, or www. Christinaction.com. Make checks payable to CIA.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 26 in conjunction with regular services at Praise Assembly of God Church, located in the Embassy Suites, Little Rock.

Hazel Karraker

Hazel Drucella Owen Woolsey Karraker, of Cabot, died Nov. 21, 2006, in Little Rock, just days shy of her 98th birthday.

Hazel was born Dec. 8, 1908, in Garland City, to the late Mattie Smithy Owen and Joseph Oscar Owen.

Hazel was married to Harold Woolsey and after his death married John 'Jake' Karraker, also deceased.

She lived for many years in Little Rock, then moved to Cabot to be close to her niece, Judith Hipp.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Benjamin J. Owen and Charles Lee Frazier.

She is survived by two sisters; Martha Ann Bowden of Homer, La., and Alice Stanford of Florida; Adie, as she was called by the family had no children but had many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Among the nieces and nephews were the Owen children, Judith Hipp and husband, David of Cabot; Jerry Owen of Gassville; Betty Rowe and husband, Bernie of Kingman, Ariz. and Major (retired) Ben P. Owen and wife Janet of Fifty Six.

A graveside service will be Saturday, Nov. 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cabot Nursing and Rehabilitation for providing a home for Adie and the staff of Select Specialty at St. Vincent's in Little Rock for providing excellent care for her last days and allowing her to die with dignity.

Carmel Washburn

Carmel Liles Washburn, 85, of Sherwood went to be with her Lord on Nov. 27, 2006.

She was born in Antioch, on Jan. 23, 1921, to Thomas Nelson 'Net' and Annie Eliza 'Annie' Claiborne Liles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, the Rev. Victor Owen 'Whis' Washburn; brothers, William Bunyan and wife Iris Blanche Price Liles, Arthur Thomas 'Dick' and wife Mary Garner Liles; and sisters, Hettie Blanche Liles and husband William Louis 'Bill' Harrell, and Annie Zorah 'Zoe' Liles and husband Manuel Floyd Harlan.

She is survived by her loving daughter, the Rev. LaNita Anne Washburn Daniels; her devoted son-in-law and caregiver, Donny Joe Daniels and many family members and friends.

She earned her bachelors degree in education from State Teachers College and her masters in guidance counseling from Harding University.

She continued her education throughout the years above her formal degrees.

She enjoyed yard work and gardening, reading, gatherings, church work, singing and playing the piano.

She was a teacher and principal at Antioch, a teacher at Quitman, and a teacher and guidance counselor at Beebe, as well as senior class sponsor, among many other activities in the school systems all totaling over 41 years of service and leadership.

She was a leader and member of Antioch United Methodist Church most of her life, such as teaching Sunday school for over 65 years and being chairperson of the official board for over 40 years.

She was active in many White County churches where she and her husband faithfully served as well as in Pulaski County.

She selflessly gave herself completely to others, opened her heart to many people throughout her life and did all she could to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, be an inspiration to others, help others as much as possible, and make others’ lives better in some way.

If one listens, her voice can still be heard singing, teaching, encouraging, comforting, counseling, or laughing and the sound of her piano playing still drifts through the air.

As long as she is in our hearts, she will be with us.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at Antioch Community Church with burial in Antioch cemetery.
