Elizabeth Lee Sowell Smith 1918 - 2003

Mrs. Elizabeth Lee Sowell Smith, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, the 5th of March, 2003 at the Brighter Living Assisted Living Facility in Hopewell, Virginia after a brief illness. Formerly of Mountain Home, Arkansas, she moved to Chester, Virginia in November 2000 to be closer to her son, Larry, and his family. Her husband J. Quinby Smith, also of Mountain Home, preceded her in death. She was born on 26 October 1918 to Sam and Betty (Cunningham) Sowell at Summit, Arkansas. She married Quinby on 1 Aug 1942 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mountain Home. Over the years, she was active in several, church, civic and service organizations, including the Wesley Guild of the First United Methodist Church, Hilltop Home Demonstration Club, Ozark Square Dance Club, Arkansas Archeological Society, Ozark Earth Science Society, and was a Past Treasurer of the Baxter County Historical Society. She was a retired secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service in Mountain Home.

Survived by: She is survived by her son Lieutenant Colonel (U.S. Army, Retired) Lawrence B. (Larry) Smith, daughter - in - law Lynne, and grandson William Quinby Smith of Chester, Virginia; devoted niece Betty (Bill) Veazey of Ashdown, Arkansas; sisters Cecil (Randy) Jaeger of California and Norma (Andy) Capaldi of New Jersey; brother Jim Sowell of Pelsor, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in Death by: Parents and husband

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 8 March 2003.

Funeral: Services will be conducted by the Reverend Jim Brooks at the Kirby - Boaz Chapel at 2:00 pm Sunday, 9 March 2002.

Burial arrangements: Burial will be beside Quinby in the Mountain Home Cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions may be made to either the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 1611, Mountain Home, AR 72654 for the continuing support of the Casey House or The Autism Society of America, Central Virginia Chapter, P.O. Box 29364, Richmond, Virginia 23242 - 0364 for continued research on Asperger’s Syndrome.

Thomas Richard Smith 1947 - 2002

Thomas Richard Smith was born March 13, 1947 at Chicago, Ill. to Theodore and Dorothy Veronica Boger Smith. He was a Carpenter.He passed away on December 25, 2002 at Baxter Regional Medical Center, Mountain Home, Arkansas at the Age of 55 years

Survived by: 1 Sister Christine Bigelow of Kalamazoo, MI.

Funeral: all services and burial were private.

Lona Gusta Boggs Smith May, 15, 1914 - October 25, 2002

She was seventh of twelve children born to to Isaac Owen and Emma Izora Ramsey Boggs on May 15, 1914 at Big Otter, West Virginia. She was married to James Hugh Smith. She was a resident of Lakeview, AR since moving from Sacramento, CA in 1996. She was retired from the California Almond Growers of Sacramento, CA. She was a grand lady loved by all her family and friends.

Survived by: . She is survived by four children - James (wife - Chris) of Sedalia, MO; Marjorie (husband - Ben) Thomas of Lakeview, AR; Robert (companion - Charlotte Landenberger) of Sacramento, CA; and Carlis of Sacramento, CA; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Emma Metheny of Big Otter, WV and one brother, Waldo (wife - Dorma) Boggs of Cleveland, OH. and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Monday, October 28, 2002 at the Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel

Funeral: Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay, W. Va.

Burial arrangements: Boggs Family Cemetery, Big Otter, W.Va.

Joan M. Snyder January 31, 1932 - January 1, 2003

Joan M. Snyder was born January 31, 1932 at Chicago, Ill. to Walter and Marie Klima Janacek. She married Richard Snyder on June 16, 1962 at Riverside, Ill. She was a Blueprint Inspector for Western Electric in Cicero, Ill for 26 years. She moved with her husband to Lakeview in 1997 from Cicero. She was a member of the Bull Shoals Retirement fishing Club,Pioneer Club, and the Mid Lake Home Extension. She was a Catholic and loved to bowl. She passed away on January 1, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center, Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 70 years and 11 months.

Survived by: Husband: Richard Snyder of Lakeview, Ar. 1 Son: Bruce Trobl of Berwyn, Ill. and one granddaughter

Preceded in Death by: parents and one brother

Visitation: 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2003 at Kirby Boaz Funeral Home

Funeral: Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Kirby - Boaz Funeral Home Chapel, Mountain Home, Ar. with Reverend Stefan Eubanks officiating.

Richard Alexander Sperr 1919 - 2002

Richard Alexander Sperr of Mountain Home was born on Novermber 18, 1919 in Indiana to Julian and Bertha Sternberg Sperr. He was a Sales and Serviceman for and Electronic Equipment company. He moved to Mountain Home in 1988 from Lahabra, California. He was a member of the Christian Science Church. He passed away at his residence on July 17, 2002 at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 29 days.

Gildo Frank "Grandpa" Spina 1910 - 2003

He was born February 13, 1910 at Mark, Illinois to Armando and Maria Antonacci Spina. He married Genevieve Boyd on February 29, 1936 at Joliet, Illinois. A resident of Bull Shoals since moving from Plainfield, Illinois in 1979, he was of the Catholic faith. He was a retired UA Civil Engineer from Joliet Ammunition Plant, Joliet, Illinois and was a daytime bartender at the 178 Club since 1980.

Survived by: He is survived by one daughter, Deanna (Robert) Fox of Bull Shoals; two sons, James (Susan) Spina of Plainfield, Illinois and David (Kathleen) Spina of Fairview, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; seven great - grandchildren; and one sister, Nilda Colombo of Joliet, Illinois.

Preceded in Death by: wife, parents, one nephew and one grandson

Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2003

Funeral: 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 26, 2003 at Kirby - Boaz Funeral Home, Bull Shoals Chapel with Dr. Fred Taylor officiating.

Fred Sproull,73,died Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. Fred D. Sproull was born September 25, 1929 at Morris, IL to Frederick and Rachael Shanahan Sproull. He married Ruth Borre on June 5, 1954 at Wilmett, IL and was an electrician. He was a resident of Mountain Home, AR since moving from Wheeling, IL in 1984. He served in the US Army in Korea, and was Methodist.

Survived by: He is survived by his Wife - Ruth M. Sproull; Daughters - Amy Sproull of Mountain Home and Cathy Betourne of Hoffman Estates, IL; Son - David Sproull of Springdale, WA; Sisters - Muriel Smith of Des Plaines, IL and Jenny Perkins of Bloomington, IN; Grandchildren - Chris, Amanda, and Sara Sproull, and Andy and Kevin Betourne, and 2 nieces.

Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 son - Steve Sproull.

Funeral: A Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Kirby - Boaz Funeral Home.

Burial arrangements: Entombment will be in Kirby’s Tucker Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum.

Eva Beatrice St. Claire, 87 of Grandview, MO. died february 27, 2002 at Grandview Manor. She was born april 25, 1914 in Washburn, MO to Hardy Samuel and nellie Mae Burger Dalton. she married Paul St.Claire September 19, 1945 in Tijuana, Mexico. She was a waitress. She Lived in Grandview, MO. formerly Mountain Home.She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was a pink lady for Baxter Regional Medical Center for 10 years.

Survived by: She is survived by a stepdaughter Mary Louise Ripka of Meta,MO., anda sister Dorie Lanos of Belton, MO.

Funeral: Graveside Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Mountain Home Cemetery.

Burial arrangements: Burial will be in Mountain home Cemetery.

Mari E. Staggs 1915 - 2003

Mari E. Staggs was born August 26, 1915 at Mout Ayr, Iowa to William and Florence Lewis Dowling. She married Raymond P. Staggs on April 9, 1940 in Iowa and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survived by: Husband - Raymond P. Staggs of Mountain Home, AR; 2 Grandsons - Brian Booth of Perth, Ontario, Canada and Carson Booth; and Son in Law - Robert L. Johnson of Pahrump, NV

Ruth E. Stewart was born May 29, 1916 at Chicago, IL to Clarence and Mary Coselman Hazzard. She moved to Bull Shoals in 1984 from Lansing, IL and was a housewife. She was a member and was very active in the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. Ruth Stewart entered into eternal rest on March 31, 2003 at Flippin, AR at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 2 days.

Survived by: Son - Bob Stewart of Kansas City, MO; Daughter - Robynn Gerkitz of Lansing, IL; Grandchildren - Todd, Sherry, and Scott ; Several nieces and nephews.

Connie Accurso Stone was born January 24, 1946 at White Plains, NY to Frank Joseph and Rose Cartelli Accurso. She was a retired cosmetologist. She was a resident of Mountain Home, AR since moving from Los Angeles, CA in 1973. She enjoyed gardening and making things for her grandchildren. Her artistic ability was displayed by hairdressing, sewing, painting and making floral arrangements. She was the former fan club president for Black Oak Arkansas, and was a Christian.Connie Accurso Stone entered into eternal rest on January 6, 2002 at Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 12 days.
