S. Wilson Crain
November 15, 1925 - January 24, 2002
S. Wilson Crain, 76, of Pine Bluff died Thursday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born November 25, 1925 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he was a son of the late Stanley C. Crain and Inez Wilson Crain.
Mr. Crain moved to Pine Bluff at age 6. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon his return, Mr.Crain attended the University of Arkansas graduating in 1950. He moved first to Little Rock, then to Hot Springs in 1958 and back to Pine Bluff in 1964.
Mr. Crain was a banker for NBC, Worthen, and Boatman's before retiring in 1995. He was also District Manager for Commercial Credit Corporation for 26 years.
Mr. Crain was a member of First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff where he taught the 4th and 5th grade boys sunday school class for 30 years . He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Rock N' Rebs, and the Star Steppers Square Dance Club.
He was a past board member of the Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas and the Private Industry Council of Southeast Arkansas. He was also a past president or chairman of Jefferson Comprehensive Care, Jefferson County Red Cross, Pine Bluff Downtown Lions Club and Rosswood Country Club.
Mr. Crain was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Stafford, and a sister, Kathryn Crain Ordner.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Pat Crain of Pine Bluff, a daughter, Cindy Blackstock of Pine Bluff, and two grandchildren, Richard Stafford and Josh Blackstock.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Robinson's.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday at First Baptist Church with Reverend Gordon Topping and Dr. John McClanahan officiating. Private burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park at Little Rock by Ralph Robinson & Son.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church Memorial Garden Fund, 6501 South Hazel, Pine Bluff AR 71603, or to the donor's favorite charity.
Cleo Failla Rudner
March 22, 1921 - January 25, 2002
Cleo Failla Rudner, 80, of 2406 W. 39th Avenue, Pine Bluff died Friday, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 22, 1921 in Pine Bluff to Joe and Elvira Fratesi Failla, Jr. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School.
She married Marvin L. Rudner in 1944. They lived in several different places while he was in service.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Mrs. Rudner is survived by a son, Jack Rudner of Wichita, Kansas, two daughters, Marlene Bartram of Orting, Washington, Rebecca Rudner of Carbondale, Colorado, a brother, Terry Failla of Pine Bluff, two sisters, Margaret Pedi of Pine Bluff, Amelia Scott of Benton, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Joe Failla III, and two sisters, Marie Godwin and Rose Grimes.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with Father Andrew Smith officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
There will be a vigil service, 7:00 P.M. Sunday, at Ralph Robinson and Son.

Wilma Jane Stephens Gillespie
August 10, 1912 - January 27, 2002
Wilma Jane Stephens Gillespie, 89, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born in Pine Bluff August 10, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Dr. James Walter and Janie Hays Stephens. An honor graduate of Pine Bluff High School where she won the Simmons Scholarship, she attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri, and did special language work at the University of Hawaii and the University of California. She married Thomas Evan Gillespie in Pine Bluff in 1932. The Gillespies resided in several locales during Rear Admiral Gillespie's naval career, returning to Pine Bluff in 1952. Admiral Gillespie died June 9, 1991.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for many years, serving as a youth leader, World Missions Chairwoman, Presbyterian Women Circle leader, 20 year Sunday School teacher, and as a Christian Education Committee member. She was a member of the Mathontes Club.
Survivors include Thomas E. Gillespie, Jr. of Georgetown, South Carolina, son; Jane G. Starling of Pine Bluff, daughter; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Louise Ketchum, and son-in-law, M. Jefferson Starling, Jr.
Funeral services are Wednesday, 10:30 AM, at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Wm. Lee Kinney and Rev. Jeff Price officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Cemetery

Sherrill Ross Thomason
November 15, 1940 - January 26, 2002
Sherrill Ross Thomason, 61, of White Hall passed away January 26, 2002 at his home.
He was born November 15, 1940 to Joseph Clay and Edna Foster Thomason in Lonoke, AR. They moved to Desha County in 1950, where he attended Desha Central High School. Sherrill served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960-1966. Upon the leaving in the Marine Corps, he farmed in Kelso with his father for several years. He married Kathy French on July 13, 1973, they owned and operated Thomason's Grocery in Pine Bluff for 25 years. In October 2000, Mr. Thomason was the recipient of the Community Service Award in recognition for outstanding commitment to Barnes Community.
Mr. Thomason was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathy Thomason; one daughter, Dwana (Chris) Lee of McGehee, AR; one son, SSgt. Larry (Aimee) Duke of Pine Bluff, AR; two brothers, Larry Thomason of Sherwood, AR, and Norris (Sharon) Thomason of Granite City, IL; three sisters, Barbara (Lonnie) Mavity of Beebe, AR, Mary Thomason of Ft. Worth, TX and Kay Jester of Pine Bluff, AR; three grandchildren, Krystle and Ross Lee and Shelby Duke; and a special niece Shannon Thomason.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at Ralph Robinson and Son in Pine Bluff, AR with Rev. Bobby Matthews and Rev. John Akers officiating.
Burial services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery
in Pine Bluff AR and 
military rites will be given by the United States Marine Corps Detachment of Little Rock, AR and the Thaddeus H. Caraway VFW Post # 2278 of Hot Springs, AR.
The family requests that all memorials be made to the Hospice Inc. of Pine Bluff or the American Cancer Society.
Following the services the family will gather at the home, 2803 Claud Road, Pine Bluff, AR.
Margaret Ila Chidester
March 13, 1907 - January 28, 2002
Margaret Chidester, 94, of North Little Rock, Arkansas died Monday, January 28, 2002 at her residence. She was born March 13, 1907 in Barnett, Missouri to Henry and Mamie Williams Windler.
Mrs. Chidester was reared and educated in Barnett, Missouri and graduated from Versailles High School. She married Frank B. Chidester on May 17, 1928 in Jefferson City, Missouri. They moved to Pine Bluff in 1947, where she worked for Ben Pearson and North American Aviation during World War II. Mrs. Chidester also worked as a secretary for First Christian Church in Pine Bluff for 37 years where she was a member.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Chidester; parents, Henry and Mamie Williams Windler; a brother, Ray Windler; sisters, Vera Windler Rombach,Lavada Windler Akin, Frances Windler Church, and Helen Beth Windler Hardsaw; and a grandson, Ricky Chidester.
Survivors include, a son, Dick Chidester of North Little Rock; a brother, Edwin Windler of Sweeny, Texas; a sister, Mary Jean West of Springfield, Missouri; a granddaughter, Regina Graham of Sherwood, Arkansas; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Heather Graham of Sherwood, Arkansas.
Visitation will be Wednesday 6 to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, January 31, 2002 in Ralph Robinson and Son Chapel with Reverend Delores Stroud officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery
in Pine Bluff.

Bobby W. Garrick
December 13, 1939 - January 29, 2002
Bobby W. Garrick, 62, of 1415 Blue Jay, White Hall died Tuesday, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Garrick was born December 13, 1939 in Thornton, to Claiborn Garrick and Virginia House Garrick Billings. He was reared and received his early education in Thornton, graduating from Thornton High School.
He moved to Pine Bluff in 1957 where he was a truck driver, driving for Pepsi-Cola for 21 years, and then Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel for 21 years.
He was a member and active deacon at Canaan Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Evelyn Threlkeld Garrick, to whom he married, August 5, 1960 in Pine Bluff, a daughter and son-in-law, Monica Branch and Alan McFalls and their daughter, Jessica Faith Branch of Woodlawn, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Philip and Monica Garrick and Mark Garrick of Pine Bluff, a brother, Martin Garrick of Oil Trough, 1/2 brother, Randy Garrick of Little Rock, sister, Ann Kendle of Pine Bluff. He was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Garrick.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with Brother Ron Shipley and Brother Bob Oden officiating.
Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery, near Grapevine.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's Thursday, 6-8 P.M.

Lawrence Theodore ( Larry ) Pringos
February 20, 1945 - January 30, 2002
Lawrence Theodore "Larry" Pringos, 56, of Altheimer, died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff on Wednesday, January 30, 2002. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on February 20, 1945. After a short period in New Orleans, Mr. Pringos was reared and received his early education in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a 1963 graduate of Hall High School there. He was a 1967 graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, earning a bachelor of arts degree in English. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Emory.
Mr. Pringos joined the United States Navy in 1967, attended officer candidate school, and was commissioned as an ensign. He served as a line officer in the Mediterranean and in the Pacific during the Vietnam War, leaving active duty in 1970. He was honorably discharged as a lieutenant from the United States Naval Reserve in October of 1977.
Moving to Altheimer in 1971, he worked for Elms Planting Company for a year, then for three years for Apollo Enterprises in Swan Lake. Mr. Pringos began a career in farm management in 1975, joining the C. H. Triplett Company. He was working for that company as a manager at the time of his death. He had served as a member of the board of directors of Planters Gin and Warehouse in Altheimer, the Bayou Meto Watter Management District, the Plum Bayou Levee District, and as a board member and secretary of the Jefferson County Conservation District.
The avid outdoorsman was a member of Fish Lake Cypress Farms, Inc., and Mud Lake Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Shanklin Pringos, to whom he was married November 28, 1969, in Fort Myers, Florida; his parents, Andrew Antonio Pringos, MD and Harriet Barbara Phillips Pringos of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and a sister, Angela "Doogie" Pringos Box of Bartlesville.
Graveside services for Mr. Pringos are Saturday, February 2, 2002, at 2:00 PM in Bellwood Cemetery
with Reverend Fred Arnold officiating. Arrangements are by Ralph Robinson & Son. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Ducks Unlimited Memorials, Box 1503, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71613.
Ola Mize Turner
October 26, 1928 - January 31, 2002
Ola Mize Turner, 73, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at her home. Born October 26, 1928, to the late Marion and Clara Walton Mize, her family resided in several Arkansas cities before moving to Pine Bluff where she received her education. She was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School.
Mrs. Turner worked for several years for Illlinois Toolworks in Pine Bluff, retiring in 1984. She became a Christian at age 16 and was a member of South Side Baptist Church. At her church she worked with Senior Adults for many years. She had dual memberships in both the Union and Pines Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Turner, to whom she was married July 26, 1951 in Mackville, Kentucky; two sons, Kenneth M. Turner of The Woodlands, Texas, and Mark Alan Turner of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Janet T. McCord of Mena, Arkansas, and Martha Ann Roberts of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas; two brothers, Harvey I. Mize of Pine Bluff and Dr. Roby D. Mize of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Marion Jacks of Pine Bluff, Rheba Ford of Pine Bluff, and Inez Holmes of Pine Bluff; and ten grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Mize.
Services are Saturday at 3:00 PM at South Side Baptist Church with Dr. J. R. DeBusk and Rev. Bobby Hartsfield officiating, Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery

Marie Blankenship
July 04, 1921 - February 03, 2002
Marie "Molly" Blankenship, 80, of Benton, Arkansas, died Sunday, February 3, 2002, at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton.
Mrs. Blankenship was born July 4, 1921, at Redfield, Arkansas, the daughter of the late William T. and Jessie Wright Thrower. She was reared and received her education in Redfield and Pine Bluff, graduated from Redfield High School. Upon graduation, she joined the U. S. Navy and served during the World War II era. She married Lawrence Wade Blankenship in 1944, and they moved to Pine Bluff in 1945. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1980. She lived here until she moved to Benton in 1996, to be with her son. Mrs. Blankenship worked as a cook for five (5) years at the Boy's Training School in Pine Bluff before her retirement. Marie was a member of the New Beginnings Church in Pine Bluff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Marie is survived by two sons, David (Trixie) Blankenship of Benton, AR and James "Chuck" (Susan) Blankenship of New Caney, TX; three brothers, David (Opal) Thrower, Daniel Thrower both of Pine Bluff and Woodrow (Ruth) Thrower of Waco, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Josie Croft of White Hall, and Mrs. Jean Bond of Pine Bluff; and two grandchildren, Dabney and Wade.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff. Visitation will be from 6 PM to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Burial will be at Memorial Park in Pine Bluff.
The Family will receive guests at the residence of John and Mary Jo Crow, 1602 Oak wood Circle, White Hall, following the graveside service.
