Joshua Tyler Martinez
September 05, 2001 - February 03, 2002

Joshua Tyler Martinez, 4 month old son of Joshua R. and Amber Shipman Martinez of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, February 3, 2002 at his home.
He was born September 5, 2001 at Pine Bluff.
He is preceded in death by a great-grandparent, Edward B. Shipman, Sr.
Survivors include, his parents; a brother, Tristan Martinez of Pine Bluff; paternal grandparents, Tracy Jernigan of Union City, Tennessee; Baker and Mary Jernigan of Pine Bluff; paternal great-grandparents, Dale and Dorothy Harris of Pine Bluff, Dee Beasley and Max Patterson of Memphis, Tennessee; paternal great-great-grandparents, Bill and Melba Evans of Memphis, Tennessee; maternal grandparents, Linda and James Jackson of England, Arkansas, Edward B. Shipman, Jr. of Pine Bluff; maternal great-grandparents, ODell and Barbara Massey of Pine Bluff, Helen Shipman of Pine Bluff; maternal great-great-grandparent, Loyd Hatch of El Dorado, Arkansas.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 6, 2002 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Feral West officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Pine Bluff
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday. The family will be at residence of Dale and Dorothy Harris, 3502 Old Warren Road, Pine Bluff.

John Temple
September 26, 1911 - February 03, 2002

John Temple, 90, of Pine Bluff, died at Trinity Village Medical Center on Sunday, February 3, 2002. Born in Pine Bluff on September 26, 1911, to the late John and Susan Buchanan Temple, he was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff. He graduated from Virginia military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, where he was a Corporal in Company F and was on the Rifle Team.
After serving in the US Army Reserves, he entered active duty in the US Army during World War II as a first lieutenant. He was sent to the New Hebrides Islands. In route to those islands his troop ship, the USS President Coolidge, was sunk. Surviving that sinking, he and some others made it to their island destination. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Temple became ill and received a medical discharge.
After the war, he took over management of his family farming interests in Jefferson County, managing the family farm until retiring in 1968. He entered the real estate business and developed River Side Park subdivision north of Pine Bluff on the Arkansas River.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He had served as junior Warden at Trinity and on several other church committees. He transferred his membership to Grace Episcopal Church for several years, serving as Acolyte Master at Grace for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Whyte Temple, to whom he was married March 16, 1946; a sister, Ann Wright Temple Samson of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews including John Temple Benton of Charleston, South Carolina, Jay Cromwell of Pine Bluff, Charles Cromwell of Atlanta, Georgia, Faye Burchard of Columbia, Missouri, Thomas Cromwell of Dixon, Missouri, and Mildred Marlin of North Little Rock.
Funeral services are at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Reverend Edgar "Hap" Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son. Memorials are requested to take the form of contributions to Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 West Third Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601, or to the donor's favorite charity.

Stanley Bitely
August 22, 1924 - February 04, 2002

Stanley Bitely, 77, of Tamo, died Monday, February 4, 2002, at St. Vincent's Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. The youngest son of Merchant Hamilton and Nina Alice (Nelson) Bitely, he was born August 22, 1924, on Huff's Island in Jefferson County near Grady.
He was a 1942 graduate of Linwood High School. He married Imogene Shults, June 23, 1945, in Pine Bluff.
A lifelong farmer, rancher and cotton ginner in Jefferson, Lincoln and Desha counties, he was also an active community and church leader. He was recognized as cotton ginner of the year several times.
He served many years as president of the Frenchtown-Auburn Levee District, was an officer of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, and served on the board of Production Credit Association. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors for Planters Oil Mill.
An active member of Linwood Baptist Church, he was ordained as a deacon, June 27, 1952, and was currently a Sunday School teacher, a position he had served in for many years.
Mr. Bitely is survived by his wife of more than 56 years; two daughters, India Elaine Freeman of Durant, Oklahoma, and Nina Elise Bitely of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; one son, Dr. Stanley Ward Bitely of Goatshed, Arkansas; one brother, Knox W. Bitely of Gould, Arkansas; three sisters, Annie Baker of Goatshed, Irene McPherson of Grady, Arkansas, and Lucille Eifling of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren, Matthew Daniel McBryde of Little Rock, Amber McBryde Usrey of Marion, Arkansas, Casey L. Freeman of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Carey L. Freeman of Durant, Oklahoma; son-in-law, Dr. Denny Freeman of Durant; granddaughter-in-law, Denise McBryde of Little Rock, and grandson-in-law, Bryan Usrey of Marion; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends from around the world.
Funeral services are at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 7, Linwood Baptist Church at Moscow, AR with the Reverend David Wood officiating. Burial will be in Nicholson Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son of Pine Bluff. Visitations are Wednesday at Robinson's from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday at Linwood Baptist Church from 1 to 2 PM. Memorials are requested to take the form of contributions to Linwood Baptist Church, Box 8, Moscow, AR 71659, or to the donor's favorite charity.

David ( Bogy ) Heinzelman
December 19, 1944 - February 07, 2002

David "Bogy" Heinzelman, 57, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born December 19, 1944, a son of the late Clarence William and Mary Edna Allen Heinzelman. Mr. Heinzelman was reared and received his early education at Humphrey, attending the Humphrey schools.
He was an Industrial Mechanic until his retirement in 1998 and a member of the Lutheran faith.
Mr. Heinzelman is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Ply Heinzelman, whom he married August 30, 1968 in Pine Bluff; one son, Glen Heinzelman of Pine Bluff; one brother, Donnie Heinzelman of Pine Bluff; five sisters, Linda Smith of Rison, Etta McDaniel of Altheimer, Mada Scruggs of Cedar Creek Lake, Texas, Carol Limson and Brenda Trantham, both of Clifty, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be Staurday at 11:00 AM, Graveside at Flat Bayou Cemetery with the Reverend Bobby Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 6 to 8 PM Friday evening.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to theAmerican Diabetes. Association, Arkansas Affiliate, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72205.

Jewell Jordan
January 28, 1917 - February 09, 2002

Jewell Jordan, 85, of White Hall died Saturday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born January 28, 1917 in Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Johnson and Julia Bordeaux Johnson.
Mrs. Jordan was reared and educated in Hamburg, graduating from Hamburg High School. She also attended numerous professional banking schools.
Mrs. Jordan was a pioneer for women in banking. During her 21 years at Citizens Bank of Jonesboro, she served on numerous Arkansas banking boards.
Jewell was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Arkansas - a place she dearly loved and served.
She performed volunteer work for the March of Dimes and the United Way organizations. She was a former member of the Jonesboro Junior League and the Sisterhood of P.E.O.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Jack Jordan, her son, Dr. H.J. (Hank) Jordan, Jr., and son-in-law, Robert C. McWilliams III.
Survivors include a daughter, Julia Ann McWilliams of White Hall, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Jonesboro by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Larry F. Duke
July 15, 1948 - September 29, 2001

Larry F. Duke, 53, of Pine Bluff, a son of Dottie Dobbins Duke of Pine Bluff and the late Jimmy Duke, died September 29, 2001, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
Reared and educated in Pine Bluff, he graduated from Pine Bluff High School. He was a lifetime resident of Pine Bluff. He worked as a Supervisor in the Roundhouse at the Cotton Belt Railroad before retiring after 33 years of service.
Mr. Duke was preceded in death by a daughter, Misty Musselwhite. Other survivors include his wife, Millie Sharp-Duke of Pine Bluff whom he married October 26, 1990, in Stuttgart, Arkansas; son, Larry Wayne Duke of Pine Bluff stationed in Okinawa, Japan; daughters, Courtney Elizabeth Duke and Candace Louise Duke of Pine Bluff; brother, George Duke of Pine Bluff; two grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, 10/04/2001, 2:00 PM, graveside at Graceland Cemetery by Robinson's with Reverend Ted DeWeese officiating. Visitation is Wednesday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Robinson's. Memorials requested to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103 .

Rosa Marie Richardson
December 17, 1966 - February 11, 2002

Rosa M. Richardson, 35 of Pine Bluff died Monday, February 11, 2002 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Richardson was born December 17, 1966 in Homestead, Florida. She graduated High School in Charleston, South Carolina.
Ms. Richardson was a homemaker and loving mother. She was a member of Greenlee Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.
She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Lee Ann Richardson of Pine Bluff; her mother and step-father, Jim and Patricia Beugnot Craig of Pine Bluff; maternal grandparents, Charles and Ann Ferguson of Summerville, South Carolina; brothers, Scott and Ronnie Richardson of Homestead, Florida; and a sister, Ann Pimental of Lubbock, Texas.
Ms. Richardson was preceded in death by her father, Robert O. Richardson.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February, 12, 2002 at Greenlee Baptist Church in Pine Bluff by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Adam Hughes officiating.
Burial will be handled by Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville, South Carolina.
The family ask that memorials take the form of contributions to Greenlee Baptist Church, 4901 Old Warren Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601.

Bernice Addie Swett
April 24, 1914 - February 13, 2002

Bernice Addie Swett, 87, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, formerly of Dayton, Washington died Wednesday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born April 24, 1914 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, she was a daughter of the late Frank S. Cleveland and Lady Davis Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion P. Swett.
Survivors include her son, Frank Swett of Pine Bluff, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be announced at a later date.

James M. Hosman
June 13, 1918 - February 14, 2002

James M. Hosman, 83, of 120 West Piney Road in Pine Bluff, AR, died Thursday,
February 14, 2002, at Arden Courts (care facility) in Richardson, TX.
Mr. Hosman was born June 13, 1918, in Doylestown, AR. His parents were the late William H. and Lora Hosman. As a young man, he was reared and received his education in the Hardin Community. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He was employed for 32 years at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He retired from the Arsenal in 1976 as Chief of Storage.
Mr. Hosman was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Nixon Hosman, who he married July 13, 1957, in Greenville, MS. Mrs. Hosman died October 22, 1999, in Pine Bluff. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Etsel and Walter Hosman, and two sisters, Ethel Bridges and Noreen Bartlett.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Nan Lancaster of Pine Bluff and Marian Hamman of Pamona, CA; four grandchildren, Deonne Studdard of Richardson, TX, Brent Martin, of Little Rock, AR, Julie Amancio of Chico, CA and Debra Hamman of Alto Loma, CA.; five half-brothers, Thel Lewis, Bobby Lewis and Cleo Lewis, all of Pine Bluff, Albert Lewis of Grand Junction, CO, and Mark Lewis of Hot Springs, AR, and one half-sister, Earline Hosman
of San Francisco, CA.
Services will be Saturday, February 16, 2002 at 9:00 AM by Reverend Ernest DeSoto of Prairie Grove, AR, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son.

Mildred Lacy Rainey
January 15, 1918 - February 17, 2002

Mildred Lacy Rainey, 84, 2008 Ridgway Road, Pine Bluff, died Sunday, February 17, 2002, at Beverly Health Care in North Little Rock.
Mrs. Rainey was born January 15, 1918 in Casa, Arkansas to the late Cecil C. and Nell Barrett Lacy.
Mrs. Rainey was reared and received her education in Casa, Arkansas. She married Jake Rainey, December 6, 1931 in Casa, Arkansas. They moved to Altheimer, Arkansas in 1946 where they owned and operated Jake Rainey and Son Farm. Mr. Rainey passed away July 20, 1974. Mrs. Rainey moved to Pine Bluff in 1984.
Mrs. Rainey was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Altheimer. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Don Rainey of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, two daughters, Nina Montgomery of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Gail Hickingbotham of Jacksonville, Arkansas, five (5) grandchildren, six (6) great-grandchildren, two (2) great, great grandchildren, three sisters, Virginia McGohan of Casa, Arkansas, Wanda Brooks of Birmingham, Alabama and Winona Faulkner of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and one brother, Cecil C. Lacy, Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at Bryant's Cove Cemetery at the base of Petit Jean Mountain. Visitation will be Monday, February 18, 2002 at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry Street, Pine Bluff, from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to: Baptist Health Hospice of Little Rock, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, AR 72210.
