Joel Layton Baggett, Jr.
December 24, 1931 - November 05, 2002

Joel Layton Baggett, Jr., 70, of Magnolia, Texas, longtime Pine Bluff, Arkansas, resident, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born December 24, 1931 in Rison, Arkansas, to the late Joel Layton "Joe" and Mildred Franks Baggett, he was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1951.
A concrete mason, Mr. Baggett worked in the construction industry for many years in Pine Bluff and Texas, moving to Texas in 1973. He was a 40 year member of the Concrete Masons Union, Local 681 in Houston, Texas. He retired in 1993.
He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie Richardson Baggett, to whom he was married February 28, 1953; three sons, Samuel H. Baggett of Pine Bluff, John Dale Baggett of Pasadena, Texas, Carl Baggett of Magnolia, Texas; one daughter, Cynthia Franklin of Jacksonville, Florida; four brothers, Leslie Baggett, David Baggett, and Ralph Baggett of Sheridan, Kelsea Baggett of Garden Grove, California; one sister, Robbie Blackstock of Pine Bluff; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are Saturday at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend John Akers officiating. Interment will follow in Good Faith Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Memorials are requested to take the form of contributions to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 110 South Bryant, Pine Bluff, AR 71602, or to Victory Baptist Church, 10613 Lem Turner, Jacksonville, FL 32218.

Rhonda Lea Bowen
September 14, 1955 - November 06, 2002

Rhonda Lea Bowen, 47, a resident of Pine Bluff died Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at her home. Born September 14, 1955 in Carthage, Illinois she was a daughter of Wilbur and Opal Owry Ruffcorn.
She was reared and received her early education in Minden, Illinois. Mrs. Bowen was a graduate of Minden High School and also attended Keokuk Community College at Keokuk, Iowa. She married Leonard Clyde Bowen in Pasadena, Texas on October 20, 1979. Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker who did ironing in her home. She was a member of Good Faith United Methodist Church and also attended Shepherd Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bowen is survived by her husband Clyde Bowen of Pine Bluff; two sons, Paul Lee Bowen and Chase Allen Bowen of Woodlawn; 1 step-son, Lowell Travis Bowen of Redfield; two grandsons; her parents, Wilbur and Opal Owry Ruffcorn of Loraine, Illinois; one brother, Darryl Ruffcorn of Loraine, Illinois.
The funeral will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 9, 2002, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Bobby Biggers officiating. Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery. The visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, November 8, 2002, at Ralph Robinson & Son. Memorials may be made to Shepherd Hill Baptist Church 10710 Shepherd Hill Rd. Pine Bluff, Ar. 71603 or the New Home Cemetery c/o WC Hankins 14860 Hiway 54 Pine Bluff, Ar. 71603.

James Frank Davison
September 02, 1925 - November 08, 2002

Frank Davison, age 77, of Pine Bluff, passed away early Saturday morning at his home.
Mr. Davison was born September 2, 1925, a son of J. O. and Birdie Wright Davison, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was reared in Pine Bluff and graduated from White Hall High School in 1945. Frank interupted his high school career to serve as a member of the U. S. Coast Guard, after his tour of service he finished his senior year. Mr. Davison married Miss Ernestine Britt on June 3, 1945, in Pine Bluff. He studied General Business at Arkansas Technical College in Russellville. Frank went to work for a Building Material Company after business school prior to starting his own building construction company. Frank retired in 1963 due to health problems. Mr. Davison is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff, and attended the Mount Olivet Methodist Church. He was a member of the Blind Veterans Association and is a life member of the John and Roy Horn VFW Post 4455 of Pine Bluff.
Frank is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ernestine Britt Davison; two sons, Jim Davison of Pine Bluff and Steve Davison of Little Rock; a daughter, Judy Ellison of Pine Bluff; one brothrer, Carlton Davison of Kennesaw, Georgia; one sister, Verlon McClain of Pine Bluff ; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Davison was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Cypress Memorial Gardens of Pine Bluff. The family will receive friends at Ralph Robinson and Son Monday evening, 5-7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to: Jenkins Memorial Childrens Center, 2410 Rike Drive, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

Julia Couch ( Judy ) Booher
May 28, 1938 - November 09, 2002

Julia "Judy" Couch Booher, age 64, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Altheimer, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 9, 2002.
Judy was born May 28, 1938, in Little Rock, a daughter of the late William Thomas and Edna Newberry Couch. She was reared Lonoke, Carlisle and Altheimer, Arkansas. She graduated from Altheimer High School and married Jimmie L. Booher 1956, at Greenville, Mississippi. They lived in Arkansas, Alaska and California and moved to Houston in 1982. Mrs. Booher attended Tomball Community College studying Office Management. She worked as an office worker after her children were grown, but her most important job was that of an loving wife and mother. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Booher is survived by her husband, of 46 years, Jimmie L. Booher; one son, J. Scott and wife Tonya Booher of Benton, Arkansas; one daughter, Lee Anne and husband Doug Gillam of Fairbanks, Alaska; one brother, Bill and wife Sharon Couch of Batesville, Arkansas; one sister, Jane Hoy of Texarkana, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Jason Gillam (a student at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN) and Kasey Nicole Gillam ( a student at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks.)
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son, 807 Cherry Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Brother James L. Silvey of Texarkana will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff. A memorial service will be held in Houston at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be sent to Houston Hospice at 8811 Gaylord, Suite 100, Houston, Texas 77024-2923

Vera Beatrice ( Bea ) Briley
August 16, 1913 - November 10, 2002

Vera Beatrice Briley, age 89, of Pine Bluff passed away at Trinity Village Medical Center on Sunday morning, November 10, 2002.
She was born August 6, 1913 a daughter of John T. And Ella Wilson Briley in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Miss Briley was reared and educated in Pine Bluff. She was employed by the government and worked in several cities. The Defense Contract Administration Services moved her to Dallas in 1954; where she was the Chief Administrator. She was a member of the Lover's Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas. After moving back to Pine Bluff she transferred her membership to the First United Methodist Church. Miss Briley was also a member of the Wesley Friendship Sunday School Class.
Miss Briley is survived by two nieces, Janet Wyatt Wilson of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Nancy Wyatt Keys of Seattle, Washington.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff. Reverend Angelia Halford will officiate.

William Chester Love, Sr.
April 23, 1920 - November 18, 2002

William C. "Chet" Love, Sr., 82, of 4811 Tomahawk Drive, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Monday, November 18, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Love was born April 24, 1920, at Springhill, Arkansas, near Greenbrier, son of the late William Monroe and Esther Tyler Love. He was reared and educated at Greenbrier, graduating from Greenbrier High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed at Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and also in the Aleutian Islands. He retired from the U.S. Army National Guard. He moved to Pine Bluff on September 1, 1945 from Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a tire retailer and a local merchant for many years. He owned and operated Love's Appliance Center and retired from sales at Brown Lincoln-Mercury-Toyota in 1986.
He was a member of Greenlee Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie Willett Love; two sons, William C. "Moochie" Love, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and John Russell Love of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; one daughter, Elizabeth Hoover of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; one brother, Forrest Love of Greenbrier, Arkansas; two sisters, Elsa Day of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Ruth Ebbs of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Ashley Marie Love, and a sister, Thelma Fudge.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. at Robinson's.
Graveside Service is scheduled for Thursday, November 21, 2002, at 11:00 A.M., at Springhill Cemetery ( near Greenbrier ) by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors, with the Reverend Adam Hughes officiating.

Glenda Holcomb Black Knox
February 21, 1938 - November 21, 2002

Glenda Holcomb Black Knox, 64, of 1504 West 6th Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Thursday, November 21, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Knox was born February 21, 1938 in Paragould, Arkansas. She was reared and educated in Paragould, Arkansas. She was graduated from Arkansas A & M College at Monticello with a Bachelor's Degree in Music and from Northeast Louisiana University at Monroe with a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance. She was a Choral Director at Drew Central Schools at Monticello, Dial Junior High School in Pine Bluff, Sylvan Hills Junior High School in North Little Rock, and Dollarway Junior and Senior High School both in Pine Bluff. She retired in May of 2000 after 28 years.
She was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as organist. She was a member of Arkansas Choral Directors Association. She sang with the Arkansas Opera Theater and the Pine Bluff Chamber Singers. She was past President of the Heckatoo Heritage Foundation in Pine Bluff.
Her survivors include her husband, Richard M. Knox III, whom she married February 14, 1987 in Pine Bluff; her children, Derrick and Kathy Black of San Antonio, Texas, Marque and Terri Black of Benton, Arkansas, Dell and Michelle Black of Benton, Arkansas, Cindy King of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; parents, Reverend Jesse and Irene Holcomb of Benton, Arkansas; sister, Jeanette Parker of Paragould, Arkansas; and grandchildren, Cassie Black, Ryan Black, Mollie Black, Jessica Black, Hannah Black and Colton King.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Reverend Darrell M. Black and grandchildren, Christopher Black and Michael Harvey.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 P.M., at Robinson's.
Services will be Monday, November 25, 2002, 11:00 AM, Watson Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. Bill H. Lewis and Reverend Jim Byrum officiating.
Graveside service will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, Arkansas at 2:30 P.M. by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to Dollarway High School Choir Fund, attention Duane Jackson, 4900 Dollarway Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71602.

Ruby Carlson
June 11, 1925 - November 25, 2002

Ruby Carlson, age 77, a sixty year resident of Pine Bluff, died at Baylor Speciality Hospital in Dallas Monday, November 25, 2002. Mrs. Carlson was born June 11, 1925, in Magness, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Cunard D. Young and Adele ThompsonYoung.
She was reared and received her early education in Magness.
Mrs. Carlson was a homemaker and a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women Circle 2. She had also been the Chairperson of the Altar Flower Committee. Mrs. Carlson had been a member of the Saracen Chapter of the American Business Womens Association for twenty years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Charles J. "Chuck" Carlson, Jr. in November of 1996 and one brother, Jimmy D. Young.
Mrs. Carlson is survived by four daughters, Linda Clements Urick of Los Angeles, California, Cheryl Carlson of Dallas, Texas, Christi Carlson Radway of Cleveland, Ohio and Candace Carlson of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Clements of Calion, Arkansas and Robbie Landon of Louann, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 2, 2002, at 10:00 A M, at Lakeside United Methodist Church by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with the Reverend George Williams and Reverend Ted DeWeese officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 P M.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 Olive Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601 or to Heifer Project International, Inc. 1015 South Louisiana Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202.

Alida Elkins
February 07, 1917 - November 29, 2002

Alida Elkins, 85, a resident of Pine Bluff died Friday, November 29, 2002, in Pine Bluff.
Born February 7, 1917, in the Hardin Community of Jefferson County she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Alice Brown Elkins.
Mrs. Elkins was reared and received her early education in White Hall and was a graduate of White Hall High School. She married the late Louis R. Elkins in Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Elkins lived many years in California where she worked as an assembly line worker for G.T.E. Mrs. Elkins was a Methodist and a member of A.A.R.P.
Mrs. Elkins was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her brother, Ruben Elkins of Fontana, Ca. and her sister, Kathleen E. Mason of Pine Bluff.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, December 2, 2002, at Cypress Memorial Gardens cemetery with Brother Gary Harper officiating and under the direction of Ralph Robinson & Son of Pine Bluff. The visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Ralph Robinson & Son.
