Edward Brockman Cogbill, Sr.
October 06, 1921 - December 29, 2002

Edward Brockman Cogbill, Sr., age 81, of Pine Bluff, died at his home Sunday, December 29, 2002. Mr. Cogbill was born October 6, 1921, in Lincoln County, a son of the late Delmon and Lillian Lora West Cogbill.
Mr. Cogbill was reared and educated in Pine Bluff. He had been a lifelong resident of Pine Bluff and had worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal for thirty years, retiring in 1981 as Foreman of the Pipe Shop.
He was a member of Olive Street Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Cogbill was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Lee Cogbill, Delmon Junior Cogbill and James W. Cogbill.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Elizabeth Krannichfeld Cogbill, whom he married February 1, 1939 in Pine Bluff; three sons, Edward Brockman Cogbill, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Randall Brett Cogbill of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and David Ray Cogbill of Katy, Texas; two daughters, Elizabeth Modelle Brudner and Sharon Glenne Bounds, both of Houston, Texas; one brother, Beodric Cogbill of Huntsville, Alabama and one sister, Glendora Terry of Conway, Arkansas and eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at 1:30 P M, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with the Reverend Roger Stewart and Reverend Travis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Tuesday evening 6 to 8 P M.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Jefferson Regional Hospice, 1515 West 42nd Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

Leona Mae Poole Helvie
July 11, 1915 - December 30, 2002

Leona Mae Poole Helvie, 87, of Pine Bluff died Monday, December 30, 2002 at her home.
She was born July 11, 1915 in Kearney ( Jefferson County) to Robert Theodore and Lillie Brisendine Poole.
She moved to Pine Bluff in 1927, where she worked at O.H. Hardin Furniture Company for a number of years, and then as a bookkeeper for Cohen's Department Store for 20 years, retiring in 1979.
She married Ross Medford Helvie, September 1, 1938. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of Carr Memorial United Methodist Church, where she had served as president of United Methodist Women for 4 years, and as an officer at conference level, president at district and local level, served as a volunteer at YWCA and Girl Scouts. She was a member and past president of Port O' Cotton Chapter of ABWA, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors are two daughters, Janice Tiner of Pine Bluff, Brenda Costa of Houston, Texas, a sister, Viola Bulloch of Pine Bluff, four granddaughters, Lisa Billings, Monica Tucker, Gena McFadin and Robin Ferris and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with Reverend George Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's, Wednesday, 5-7 P.M.
Memorials may be made to Carr Memorial United Methodist Church, 909 Wisconsin, Pine Bluff, AR 71601.

Evelyn Lucille Jarrett
March 14, 1917 - December 28, 2002

Lucille Jarrett, 85, of Pine Bluff died Saturday, at White Hall Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born March 14, 1917 in Kingsland, to Fred and Mary Campbell Parnell. She was reared and received her early education in Kingsland, moving to Pine Bluff in 1940.
She was first married to Presley Jarrett who died in 1985, and then she married Edd Stansell, who died in 1998.
She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Park Freewill Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday School.
Survivors are three sons, Presley R. Jarrett of Hot Springs, Freddie Ray Jarrett of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sammie Joe Jarrett of McGehee, five daughters, Betty Evans, Carolyn Pipkin, Judy Ashcraft, all of Pine Bluff, Darlene Sinks of Rison, Joan Quinn of Conway, four sisters, Dorothy Cantwell of Pine Bluff, Doris Tainter of Kingsland, Jean Taylor of South Dakota, Peggy Connell of Portland,Oregon, 26 grandchildren,30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Sinks.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 2, 2003 at 2:00 PM, at Oak Park Freewill Baptist Church, with Reverend Tom Scarlett officiating. Burial will be in Crossroads Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son. The family will receive friends at Robinson's, Wednesday from 6-8 PM. They will be at Carolyn Pipkin's home, at 3420 Hwy 65S, Lot 46.

Florence Hayward ( Tootie ) Hedrick
January 23, 1923 - January 06, 2003

Florence "Tootie" Hayward Hedrick, age 79, of Pine Bluff, died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Monday, January 6, 2003. Mrs. Hedrick was born September 23, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Hortense Floyd Hayward Burke.
Mrs. Hedrick was raised and received her education in Salt Lake City, graduating from South High School in Salt Lake City.
She moved to Pine Bluff, in 1990, from Vista, California, where she worked as a property manager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Adkins Hedrick, along with three sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Hedrick is survived by three sons and daughters in law, Richard and Julie Gerrard of Boise, Idaho, Randall P. and Sherry Hakes of Colton, California and Harold Gaylen and Joi Hakes of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two daughters and sons in law, Julee and Jay Johnson and Patti and Ross Congelton all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two sisters, Shirley Sheridan of California and Bonnie Snodgrass of Utah; one brother, Robert Hayward of Utah; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials take the form of contributions to the Arkansas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 904 Autumn Road, Suite 500, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211 or to the Arkansas Affiliate of the American Diabetes. Association, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.

William Gene Wingard
December 31, 1927 - November 01, 2001

William Gene Wingard, 73, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died in Little Rock November 1, 2001. Born December 31, 1927, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Charles Clinton and Willie May Wright Wingard.
Mr. Wingard was reared and received his early education in White Hall. He was a graduate of White Hall High School. He was a veteran of US Navy service in World War II. He was married to Atha Ardth Vanbrunt on March 8, 1952, in Fordyce, Arkansas. Mrs. Wingard died October 6, 2001.
Mr. Wingard returned to Arkansas following his naval service. After working at the Pine Bluff Arsenal for four years, he was employed in contruction projects in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas during his working life. He became a master electrician in 1966 and was a member of Local 295 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Jefferson County Gun Club, Arkansas Muzzle Loaders Association, and National Rifle Association.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Leland Wingard of White Hall, Arkansas, Richard Daniel Wingard of Redfield, Arkansas, and Charles Matthew Wingard of Conway, Arkansas; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Tommy Wingard of Sheridan, Arkansas, and Clinton Wingard of Hardy, Arkansas; and two sisters, Lola Lovelace of Prattsville, Arkansas, and Sylvia Newton of Leola, Arkansas. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Zelda Luell Wingard Brantly; a granddaughter, Carol Danielle Wingard; a brother, Oris Wingard; and a sister, Maxine Moore.
Services are Saturday, November 3, 2001, at 1:30 PM in Robinson's Chapel with visitation Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Mary Ama Bailey
January 07, 1956 - January 12, 2003

Mary Ama Bailey, 47, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Cape Coast, Ghana, died Sunday, January 12, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bailey was born January 7, 1956, in Cape Coast, Ghana, a daughter of the late Jonathan Fianu and Gladys Hansen. She grew up in Cape Coast and Accra, Ghana and attended the Ghanian military Elementary School in Accra. She graduated from the Apam Secondary School in the Central Region of Ghana. Mary was trained to be a seamstress and dress designer at the Ghana Vocational School. She met Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jabe E. Bailey in 1998 and came to the USA in 1999. They were married on March 24, 1999, in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Bailey was employed by the Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mary loved to sing. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pine Bluff where she served as a visiting teacher. She was a past president of the Relief Society, taught Sunday School and in the Seminary for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in Ghana.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, Jabe E. Bailey; one son, Nana Kwame Abban Quarshie, Cape Coast, Ghana; six daughters, Gwendelin Efua Bailey, Georgia Adwoa Bailey, Marian Ama Bailey, Josephine Aba Bailey, Martina Ekua Bailey, and Emmanuela Ama Bailey all of Pine Bluff; her mother, Gladys Hansen of Cape Coast, Ghana; three brothers, Samuel Fianu from Tema, Ghana, Martin Mensa Fianu of Sierra Leonne, West Africa, and Edward Hansen-Assan of San Francisco, California.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2003, at 10:00 am,at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Ridgway Chapel, 2501 Ridgway Road. The family will receive friends on Thursday, 6-8 pm at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry Street, and one hour before at the Church. Burial will be at the Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Avenue,North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Anita Jeannette Jones
May 04, 1942 - January 16, 2003

Anita J. Jones, 60, of Crown Point Assisted Living, Sheridan, Arkansas, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Arkansas.
Ms. Jones was born May 4, 1942 in Rison, Arkansas to the late Rector Henry and Cecil Lynn Cope Jones. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1950, where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School. After graduation, she moved and resided in Little Rock for many years. Ms. Jones was a secretary for various agencies in the Little Rock area during her early life. Due to illness, she recently moved to Crown Point Assisted Living in Sheridan.
She was a former member of South Side Baptist Church
Ms. Jones is survived by two brothers, Pete Jones of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Henry Lynn Jones of Haskell, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Sammie Jones Hinshaw, and Lucy Lee Jones Barfield.
There will be a visitation Friday following the funeral service at Robinson's.
The funeral service will be Friday, January 17, 2003, 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Dick Couch officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Pete Jones, 3006 Elm Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Margie Evelyn Christian Curtis
October 03, 1928 - January 17, 2003

Margie Evelyn Curtis, 74, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, January 17, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born October 3, 1928 in Little Rock, the daughter of the late Odie C. And Lalia Elizabeth Luck Christian was reared and received her early education in Little Rock, graduating from Little Rock Central High School in 1946.
She married Heulan Curtis in Little Rock on May 13, 1949. Moving to Pine Bluff in 1957, she reared her children, then worked at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in the laboratory as a transcriptionist until her retirement five years ago.
The avid sports lover was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of the American Business Women's Association.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Christian, and a grandson, Tyler Curtis.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Greg Dunkum of Hot Springs, Karen and Eddie Holland of Pine Bluff; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Cindy Curtis of Little Rock, Gary and Cindy Curtis of Rowlett, Texas; one brother, Larry Christian of Tampa, Florida; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are Monday at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. Committal services will be Monday at 1:00 PM in Pine Crest Memorial Park in Little Rock. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. They request that memorials take the form of contributions to Seabrook YMCA, 6808 S. Hazel, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.

Jason Bryan Brasher
March 23, 1976 - January 16, 2003

Jason Bryan Brasher, age 26, of Texarkana, formerly of Pine Bluff, passed away suddenly Thursday evening.
Jason was born March 23, 1976, a son of Rodney Wayne and Mary Edison Brasher, in Pine Bluff. He was reared amd educated in Pine Bluff, graduating from Watson Chapel High School in 1994. He attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, where he was a memberofthe Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He worked in the installation and service department for Scott Systems in Pine Bluff and LaRoy Thomas Heat and Air Conditioning in Texarkana. He also worked for Outback Steak House in Texarkana. Jason was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church .
Mr. Brasher is survived by a daughter, Lexis Jade Brasher of Star City; his fiance, Jodi Cash of Texarkana; his parents; one brother, Alan Brasher of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and his paternal grandmother, Opal Brasher of Magnolia, Arkansas and two nephews, Jacob and Justin Brasher.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, his paternal grandfather, one brother, Douglas, and an aunt.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at the Fitzhugh Cemetery, Pine Bluff. The family will receive friends at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff, Monday evening 5-7 pm.

Barbara Ann Thompson
November 11, 1937 - November 04, 2001

Barbara Ann Thompson, 63 of White Hall died Sunday at her home. She was born on November 11, 1937 in Pine Bluff to the late O. C. Cannon, Sr. and Lucy Mae Walters Cannon.
She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff. She was married to Gene Thompson. She was a lifelong resident of Pine Bluff and a member of Claud Road Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bonita Huddleston.
The family will receive friends at Robinsons from 6 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include husband, Gene Thompson of White Hall; son, Russell Thompson of Pine Bluff; daughter, Shari Gray of White Hall; 2 sisters, Opal Marie Casteel of Pine Bluff, Betty Gracie of Pine Bluff; 2 brothers, O.C. Cannon, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Doug Cannon of Pine Bluff; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Services will be Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with burial in Hardin Cemetery. Reverend Ted Keen and Reverend Bobby Matthews will officiate.
