Thomas David ( T. D. ) Davis
June 20, 1919 - January 24, 2003
Mr. Thomas David "T. D." Davis, age 83 of Little Rock, (formerly of Pine Bluff), died at the Woodland Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock Friday, January 24, 2003.
Mr. Davis was born June 20, 1919, in Pine Bluff, a son of the late Thomas David and Bonnie Burnett Davis.
He was reared and received his education in Pine Bluff. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School where he played on the Zebras 1939 National Championship team.
He served in U. S. Army during World War II as a Locomotive Engineer in the 745th Railway Operating Battilion in the China-Burma-India theater. Upon returning from the war, he resumed his duties as a Fireman on the Cotton Belt Railroad and was later promoted to Engineer.
Mr. Davis retired from the Cotton Belt in 1984, after 44 years of service.
He was instrumental in moving the old Cotton Belt Engine 819 from Townsend Park to Oakland Park in the 1960's and later to the Cotton Belt Shop. He spent many long hours along with his friends at the Cotton Belt Rail Historical Society rebuilding the old engine, passenger cars and the cabooses and was the engineer on many of its trips including the Arkansas Sesquicentennial celebration in Little Rock in 1986. He also enjoyed woodworking and building things.
Mr. Davis was a longtime active member of Hawley Memorial United Methodist Church. He was also a Mason and a member of the Sahara Shrine Temple.
Mr. Davis was married to Gwyenth Francis in 1940, and she preceded him in death in 1994. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Davis.
He is survived by one daughter, Diane Elizabeth Davis of Little Rock; one sister, Martha E. Roop of Pine Bluff; one brother, Jack M. Davis of Pine Bluff and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 27, 2003, at 1:00 P M in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with the Reverend Pete Beevers officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 2 to 4 P M Sunday afternoon.

Dorothy Trayser Dunaway
September 25, 1902 - January 25, 2003
Dorothy Trayser Dunaway, 100, of Pine Bluff, died at Trinity Village Medical Center on Saturday, January 25, 2003. Born in New London, Wisconsin, on September 25, 1902, the daughter of the late Morton C. and Meta Pape Trayser, she was reared and received her early education in New London. After attending Oberlin College in Ohio, she graduated from college in Illinois, returned to Wisconsin, and worked as a physical education instructor for all grades in a small school system there.
She married W. Allen Dunaway in New London in August of 1926 and moved with him to Pine Bluff where Mr. Dunaway was athletic director and head coach of all men's sports for Pine Bluff High School. "Coach" Dunaway, a member of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, had a storied career in high school athletics, credited with coaching two national high school football championship teams, training several college All-Americans, and earning state championships in several sports. Mrs. Dunaway was a homemaker after moving to Pine Bluff, rearing her children and working occasionally as a substitute teacher.
A member of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff, she was an avid bridge player.
Her survivors include Gene Trayser Dunaway and wife, Joyce, of Charleston, SC, and William Arthur "Bill" Dunaway and wife, Jo Etta, of St. Louis, MO, sons; Dr. Trayser Dunaway and Rhett Dunaway, grandsons; and Michael Trayser Dunaway, great-grandson, Eliza Yancy Dunaway, and Sally Angela Dunaway, great-granddaughters.
Services for her are Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Wm. Lee Kinney officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Robinson's. John Anthony Barbarotto, Jr., MD
September 27, 1940 - January 25, 2003
John Anthony Barbarotto, Jr., MD, age 62, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, January 25, 2003, in his home in Columbia, S.C.
John was born September 27, 1940, in Pine Bluff, a son of the late John A. Barbarotto and Mary J. Butcalis. He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff and graduated from Pine Bluff High School. He served in the National Guard. Dr. Barbarotto earned his Chiropractic degree from National Chiropractic School in Chicago, Illinois in 1969. He practiced Chiropractic Medicine prior to obtaining his Emergency Medicine and Family Practice Degrees. He earned his medical degree from LaUniversidad Technologica De Santiago in Dominican Republic in 1985. He performed a fellowship, and was on the medical staff at, Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, S.C., and was American Board Certified in Family Practice. Dr. Barbarotto was an Emergency Medicine physician at Kershaw Medical Center in Camden, S.C. He also practiced Emergency Medicine at Byerly Hospital in Hartsville, S.C. and Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, S.C.
Dr. Barbarotto is survived by a daughter, Gina Barbarotto of Chicago, Illinois; His mother, Mary Barbarotto of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Charles Barbarotto, a twin brother, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Robert Barbarotto of Robertsdale, Alabama; and a sister, Rosemary Barbarotto of Pine Bluff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2003, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 6th and Walnut Streets, Pine Bluff. Father Andrew Smith officiating. The rosary will be recited Wednesday evening, January 29, 2003, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home.

Ruby Pierce Jones
January 25, 1902 - January 28, 2003
Ruby Pierce Jones, 101, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at Davis Life Care Center in Pine Bluff. Born in Fikestown in Grant County, Arkansas, on January 25, 1902, a daughter of the late John and Verluna "Luna" Johnson Pierce, she was reared and received her early education in the Grapevine area and in Sheridan.
She married Henry H. Jones in Benton, Arkansas, on December 12, 1925. Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved to Pine Bluff in 1927.
Mrs. Jones loved to cook, and in 1943 opened the Central Grill in Pine Bluff near the train station. In 1948 she and her husband moved to Noble Lake in Jefferson County where she established Jones Cafe. She operated Jones Cafe for forty-seven years in Noble Lake and after 1985, on Highway 65S in Pine Bluff. According to her family, she retired "reluctantly" in 1996. Mrs. Jones published a cookbook, The Best of Ruby Jones, in 1988 at the beginning of which she wrote the cookbook was "Dedicated to all my customers, past and present, who have made it possible for me to do what I enjoy most - cook."
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff and a former longtime member of Linwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; two sisters, Jewel Forbus and Evelyn Worsham; and three brothers, Otis, Herman, and Felix Pierce.
She is survived by a son, W. R. "Wimp" and wife, Jan, Jones of Pine Bluff; sister, Pearl Gordon of Pine Bluff; three grandchildren, Randy Jones of Rogers, AR, Jeff Jones of North Little Rock, AR, and Terri Cash of Pine Bluff; and six great-grandchildren.
Services are 2:00 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Charles Settle officiating. The family will be at 6103 Glenwood Drive in Pine Bluff prior to the service and will receive friends at Robinson's following the service. Private interment will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery.

Wade Black
December 19, 1911 - January 28, 2003
Wade Black, 91, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock.
He was born December 19, 1911 in Kerens, Texas to the late Walter Thomas and Hellon May Shackelford Black. He was reared and received his early education in Kerens, graduating from Kerens High School.
He started delivering flowers for a florist in Clarksville, Texas in 1933. In 1936 he went to work for Robinson Flower Shop and Funeral Home in Bastrop, Louisiana. While there, he became a licensed funeral director, and managed the funeral home and flower shop the last four years he was there. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1944 and opened Wade Black Florist, at 517 Main Street on October 17, 1944. He moved to 915 Cherry Street in 1948. In 1966, he moved the cut-flower department to 909 Cherry, which was Wade Black Florist and Wade Black Gifts and Greenhouse remained at 915 Cherry. He sold the shop and greenhouse in 1982.
He appeared on Professional Design School, teaching flower arranging in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kansas and Alabama. He was president of Arkansas Florist Association in 1956, served two years as representative of Florist Telegraph Association for Arkansas.
He served on the Board of Directors for the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1945, and was elected president in 1946, and served six years on the Board of Directors of the Senior Chamber of Commerce,and served as a member of the Jefferson County Draft Board for 5 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he had served on the Administrative Board for 50 years, and served as Chairman of the Worship Committe for 28 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Wednesday morning breakfast and one of two men who was a member of United Methodist Women.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Dell Vick Black, who he married April 14, 1972 in Pine Bluff.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, at First United Methodist Church, with Reverends Charles Settle and Fred Arnold officating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Evelyn Hardin Allmon

Evelyn Hardin Allmon, 89, of Dumas, Arkansas died Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at Madison Parrish Hospital in Tallulah, Louisiana.
She was born December 6, 1913, to Edward Clifton Hardin, Sr. and Josephine Ryall Hardin in Grady. She was reared and educated in Grady where she graduated from Grady High School. She attended Business School in Tyler, Texas.
Mrs. Allmon had worked for Sears in the credit department, Grady bank, and had been the owner/operator of the Gould Gas Company. She was a member of Dumas United Methodist Church. She also worked with the hospital auxiliary at Delta Memorial Hospital in Dumas and was volunteer of the year in 1981.
Mrs. Allmon was preceded in death by her husbands; Oscar Neal Gatlin, John Egbert Allmon, Sr. and her parents, Edward Clifton Hardin, Sr. and Josephine Ryall Hardin.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Gatlin Smith of Vicksburg, Mississippi; step-son, John Egbert Allmon, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee; step-daughter, Nan Squire of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother, Edward Clifton Hardin, Jr. of Grady; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, 6 to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, January 31, 2003, at Grady Cemetery

Faye Zehner Wallis
October 12, 1902 - November 04, 2001
Faye Wallis, 99, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, November 4, 2001, at Davis Life Care Cemter in Pine Bluff. The daughter of the late David and Minnie Gertrude Mills Zehner, she was born October 12, 1902, in Portageville, Missouri. She moved to Pine Bluff with her family from Keokuk, Iowa, in 1908 and received her early education in Pine Bluff. She attended Crescent College in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Returning to Pine Bluff, she married Loyle B. Wallis on September 14, 1921. A homemaker, she was a member of First United Methodist Church. Mr. Wallis died December 23, 1960. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Shollmier, and a brother, Joseph Earl Zehner.
Her survivors include Dave Wallis of Pine Bluff, son; Mildred Lindsay of Pine Bluff and Eloise McDade of El Dorado, Arkansas, daughters; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Heaven's Angel, Christian Chad Dardenne, son of Christopher Chad and Amanda Davis Dardenne, came into this world and passed from this world, January 31, 2003 at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Other survivors include; a sister, Sydni Nicole Dardenne of Pine Bluff; Paternal Grandparents, William and Catherine Dardenne of Pine Bluff; Maternal Grandparents, Robert and Carolyn Davis of Pine Bluff; Paternal Great-Grandparents, Lida Dardenne of Pine Bluff, and Waydean German of Jacksonville, AR; Maternal Great-Grandparents, Fred and Wanda Byrd of Malvern, Arkansas, and Truman and Ruby Davis of Pine Bluff; Maternal Great Great Grandparent, Opal Reynolds of Malvern, Arkansas.

Mildred M. Drake, 76, died Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Murray Calloway County Hospital, in Murray, Kentucky. She was born August 12, 1926, in England, Arkansas to Elias and Victoria Brimm Edwards.
Mrs. Drake was a member of Bethel Fellowship in Murray and a former member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Ayers and Leonard Drake; parents, Elias and Victoria Brimm Edwards; grandchild, Jena Elizabeth Langley; brothers, Carl Edwards, Floyd Edwards, Albert Edwards; and a sister, Floy Whitehurst.
Mrs. Drake is survived by her sons, Gordon Langley of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Jimmy Langley of Mountain View, Arkansas; daughters, Sheila Higgins of Murray, Kentucky, Margaret Todd of Pine Bluff; a sister, Faye Morris of England, Arkansas; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 5:00 PM Monday, at Imes-Miller Funeral Home in Murray, Kentucky and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors in Pine Bluff.

Roy Walter Beavers
January 25, 1921 - February 07, 2003
Roy Walter Beavers, 82, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, February 7, 2003, at Trinity Village Medical Center. Born in Strawn, Texas, on January 25, 1921, the son of the late Walter Thomas and Eula Mae Watkins Beavers was reared and graduated from high school in Strawn.
As a young man he moved to Southern California. He joined the United States Navy, serving mostly in Pensacola, Florida, for three and one-half years in the Naval Air training program during World War II. In Pensacola, he met and married his wife of fifty-eight years, Peggy Perdue Beavers.
The Beavers family moved to California after the War, residing there for seventeen years. He joined Bechtel Corporation during that time and in 1962 was transferred to Gaithersburg, Maryland. He retired as Comptroller of Bechtel Power Corporation in 1985 after thirty-five years of service to Bechtel. Mr. and Mrs. Beavers resided also in Germantown, Tennessee, and in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, before moving to Pine Bluff in October of 1999.
He was a Methodist.
His survivors include his wife, Peggy Perdue Beavers; two sons, Robert Walter Beavers of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Russell Thomas Beavers of Pine Bluff; and four grandchildren, Robert W. Beavers, Jr., of South Carolina, Amanda Beavers of Lawrenceville, Valerie Beavers and Stephanie Beavers of Pine Bluff.
Services for Mr. Beavers are Monday, February 10 at 10:30 AM at Central Presbyterian Church with Reverend Richard Knott officiating. Private committal services will follow at Graceland Cemetery
