Emma Brookshire
May 28, 1920 - May 22, 2003

Emma Brookshire, of Pine Bluff, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Emma was born May 28, 1920, a daughter of the late John Anthony and Lena Brooks Brookshire in Lincoln County, Arkansas. She was reared and educated in Pine Bluff; graduating from Pine Bluff High School. Ms. Brookshire was a long-time employee of the Ben Pearson Archery Company where she became a supervisor. She retired as manager of the bow string department. Ms. Emma was a lifetime member of the Carr Memorial United Methodist Cburch; where she taught in the children's department for many years.
Ms. Brookshire is survived by two brothers, Bill Brookshire of Pine Bluff and Hubert Brookshire of Florida; one sister, Mrs. Sally Brookshire Wooley of Pine Bluff and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon, May 24, 2003, at 2:00 pm, at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, 807 Cherry Stree.. The Reverend Pete Beevers will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral homeon Friday evening from 6-8 PM. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff.
Memorial may be made to Carr Memorial Church, 909 Wisconsin Street, Pine Bluff, AR, 71601.

Derrell Gene Leonard
January 24, 1929 - November 14, 2001

Derrell Gene Leonard, 72, of Pine Bluff died Wednesday November 14, 2001 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Born January 24, 1929 in Kansas, he was a son of Ruth Eoff Leonard and the late Ora Francis Leonard.
He was reared and educated in Warren . He worked at Showcase of Floors in carpet sales before retiring in 1993.
Mr. Leonard was a member of First Baptist Church in White Hall and a charter member of the Pine Bluff Bass Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Haygood Leonard, whom he married October 21, 1948, and his second wife Joyce Brockman Slayton Leonard, whom he married September 20, 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Ryfa of California, Dianna Goodnight of White Hall and Sandy Leonard of Redfield; his mother; two brothers, Dale Leonard of Lake Village and Dennis Leonard of Compton; one sister, Barbara Carpenter of West Memphis; and four grandchildren.
Services are 2:00 PM Friday November 16, 2001, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Dr. Bob Harper officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Warren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at Robinson's.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Diabetes. Association, Arkansas Affiliate, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205-1573

M. H. Ashcraft
October 12, 1927 - June 02, 2003

M. H. Ashcraft, 75, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born in Cleveland County, Arkansas, he was a son of the late George Monroe and Rosie Bell Ashcraft. Reared and educated in Rison, Arkansas, he was a veteran of US Army service during World War II. He worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal for many years, retiring in 1985 from the Maintenance Department.
Mr. Ashcraft was a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, a charter member of the Ashcraft Hunting Club, and a 50 year member and past master of Jacob Brump Lodge #160, Free and Accepted Masons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Odis Ashcraft, Lawrence Ashcraft, and Harold Ashcraft.
His survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Aline Ward Ashcraft; two daughters, Sandra Kay Ferguson of Libertyville, Illinois, and Patricia Ashcraft Ferrell of Pine Bluff; six brothers, James Ashcraft of Star City, Charles Ashcraft of Pine Bluff, Thomas Ashcraft of Pine Bluff, Bob Ashcraft of Pine Bluff, George Ashcraft of Pine Bluff, and Benny Ashcraft of Pine Bluff; one sister, Charlene Ashcraft Moring of Pine Bluff; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Pat Callahan and Rev. David Light officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Robinson's.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, 7122 Sheridan Road, White Hall, Arkansas, 71602, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6635, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71611.
The family will be located at 718 South Evans Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Margaret Cook
June 21, 1911 - November 15, 2001

Margaret Cook, 90 of Star City died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at Gardner Nursing Home. She was born June 21, 1911 in Pine Bluff to the late Wilbur and Gertrude Hunt Brown.
She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff. She owned and operated Margaret's Beauty Shop in Pine Bluff for 10 years. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 6 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include; husband, E.C. Cook of Star City; 3 sons, Dr. James L. Maupin of Dardanelle, Arkansas, Toby Heird of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Mac Heird of Little Rock, Arkansas; 2 daughters, Catherine Riley of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Crystal Stanfield of Fordyce, Arkansas; 7 stepchildren; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, November 17, 2001 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with burial in Graceland Cemetery. Reverend Wayne Jordan will officiate.

Ronnie Wayne Adams
September 13, 1952 - June 09, 2003

Ronnie W. Adams, 50, of Pine Bluff, died at home Monday, June 9, 2003. Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on September 13, 1952, he was reared and received his early education in Greenville, Mississippi. A son of Ann Gomillion Adams of Greenville and the late John L. Adams, he was a graduate of Greenville High School, attended the University of Maryland, the University of Mississippi at Jackson, was a graduate of Mississippi Delta Junior College.
Mr. Adams served in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1976. He served as a medic in Germany and retired from the US Air Force Reserve in 1978 as a sergeant.
He and his family moved to Pine Bluff in 1985 where he became general manager and co-owner of Port City Janitors Supply and Paper, Inc. A registered nurse, he also worked at Jefferson Regional Medical Center for ten years until ill health forced his retirement in May of 2002 from his position as House Supervisor.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He coached soccer at Seabrook YMCA for several years. He was a member of the Greater Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Chamber After Hours Committee.
His survivors include his wife, Melanee Maranto Adams, to whom he was married in Greenville on June 25, 1972; three sons, Ronnie Adams, Jr., and Wesley Adams of Searcy, Arkansas, Bradford Adams of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his mother; two brothers, David R. Adams of Atlanta, Georgia, and John Dale Adams of Greenville; one sister, Jackie E. Adams of Greenville; and two grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Adams.
Services will be Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend W. Lee Kinney officiating. Committal services will be Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery between Greenville and Leland, Mississippi. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Box 6635, Pine Bluff, AR 71611; Hospice Care Services, 3801 Camden Road, Pine Bluff 71603; or First Presbyterian Church, 717 West 32nd, Pine Bluff 71603.

Addie Belle Phelps
December 29, 1913 - November 14, 2001

Addie Belle Phelps, 87, of Pine Bluff, died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. She was born december 29, 1913, in Bryant, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Robert Butler Covington and Mary Magnora Edmondson Covington. She was lifelong resident of Pine Bluff, having attended the Pine Bluff Schools.
She was a machine operator for Byrd's Manufacturing in Star City, Arkansas for three and one-half years, retiring in 1958 and she also was an Arkansas Gazette Newspaper Motor Carrier for two and one-half years.
She was a member of the Greenlee Baptist Church where she was a member of the Choir and Secretary of Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Union Community Club, the Golden Links Senior Citizens Club and The Joyettes Musical Club.
Addie Belle Phelps was married to Mr. William Hector Phelps on September 7, 1938, and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, J. D. and Troy Covington and two sisters, Edna K. Shelton and Etta Murray.
She is survived by two sons, Bob Phelps of Chester, Virginia and Bill Phelps of Lawton, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 7 to 9 P M Friday evening.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 17, 2001, at 1:00 P M at Robinson's Chapel with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Greenlee Baptist Church, 4901 Old Warren Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71603.

Betty Lou Bolls
February 24, 1937 - June 26, 2003

Betty Lou Bolls, age 66, of Pine Bluff, passed away early Thursday morning, June 26, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bolls was born February 24, 1937, in Dyess, Mississippi County, Arkansas, a daughter of the late John Raymond and Elvie Prysock Hillyard. She was reared and educated in Star City, graduating from Star City High School. Mrs. Bolls married William P. Bolls on April 8, 1959 in Dumas, Arkansas. Mr. Bolls job caused the family to move to Rapid City, South Dakota from 1973-1978 and then to move to Grand Forks, North Dakota from 1978- 1982. They returned to Pine Bluff in 1982. She raised foster children until 2000 when Mr. Bolls passed way.
Mrs. Bolls is survived by four sons, William Bolls, Jr. of Sherwood, Frank Bolls of Glendale, John Bolls of Pine Bluff, and Christopher bolls of Althiemer; four daughters, Janet Williams of Althiemer, Darla Payne of Blytheville, Robin King and Juliann Bolls both of White Hall; three brothers, Richard Hillyard and Johnny Hillyard both of Star City, and John Raymond Hillyard, Jr. of Louisiana; two sisters, Bobbi Clark of Florida and Darla Jean Arceneaux of St. Joseph, Louisiana; Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, William, and her son, David Bolls.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2003, at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors with Reverend John Sandine officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 27, 2003, from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff. The family will be located at 505 West 2nd Street, Althiemer.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Arkansas, P.O. Box 453, Little Rock, Arkansas 72203 or Diabetes. Association, AR Affiliate, 212 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, 72205-1573.

Doris Fontaine Bierman
May 20, 1931 - June 27, 2003

Doris Fontaine Bierman, 72, of Pine Bluff died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born May 20, 1931, in Missouri to Edward Chris and Edna Charlotte Brackelsberg Fontaine.
Mrs. Bierman was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School.
She married Dr. Harold Bierman in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Bierman started working as an operator for Bell Telephone, where she later became a supervisor. She worked as an assistant with her husband in the Bierman Chiropractic Clinic. She later worked for Walmart in the Vision Center at Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Bierman was a member of the World Wide Church of God in Pine Bluff.
Survivors include her brother and spouse, Boe and Mae Fontaine of Pine Bluff and a niece, Kim Fontaine of Little Rock.
The family will receive friends, Sunday 2 to 4 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Services are 10:00 AM, Monday, June 30, 2003, Ralph Robinson's Chapel with Brother Oliver Baker and Brother Wayne Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ethel Jane ( MaMaw ) Colvard
January 13, 1937 - July 02, 2003

Mrs. Ethel Jane Buckner Colvard, 66, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born January 13, 1937 in Charleston (Franklin County) Arkansas, a daughter of the late William Everett Buckner and Lettie Patterson Buckner. Her step father was the late Leo Nicholas Gilsinger.
She was married on December 30, 1954, to Burton Eugene Colvard, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Colvard was a homemaker and an avid golfer. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Colvard is survived by four children; Dianna Colvard Voyles and Edward Eugene Colvard of Wynne, Arkansas, Donnie Ray Colvard of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Denise Colvard Davis of Woodlawn, Arkansas; three brothers, Everett Buckner, Don Buckner and Nick Gilsinger all of Charleston; three sisters, Sue Neissl and Mary Ann Thomson of Charleston and Betty Holland of Branch, Arkansas; seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 5, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff with the Reverend Charles Settle officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff by Ralph Robinson & Son. The visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday, July 4, 2003 at Ralph Robinson & Son.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8003, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601 or the Rosswood Ladies Golf Association, 7619 Rosswood Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.
