Vernice Belle Barnett
September 29, 1917 - February 05, 2004

Vernice Belle Barnett, age 86, of Pine Bluff, died at Arkansas Convalescent Center, Thursday, February 5, 2004. She was born September 29, 1917, in Bono, Arkansas, a daughter of the late James William and Effie Dell Broadaway Smith.
She was reared and received her education in Bono where she attended the Bono schools. She married Mr. William L. Barnett on June 4, 1938, and they moved to Pine Bluff in 1941 and had lived here since.
Mrs. Barnett had worked with her brother, Jimmy Smith in his grocery store and at the Pine Bluff School Cafeteria and the Broadmoor Elementary School Cafeteria as the Manager.
She also had worked at and retired from Baim's Department Store.
She was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Choir and was a Sunday School teacher of both the children and adults. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the church.
Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. William L. Barnett; one daughter and son in law, Patsy Gibbs and Floyd of Winchester, Kentucky; one sister, Gay Ellis of Amarillo, Texas; two grandchildren, Tobin Gibbs of Winchester, Kentucky and Terri Maher of Cincinnati, Ohio and three great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 9, 2004, at 2:00 P M, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Howard Loetscher officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 2 to 4 PM Sunday.

James Ekermeyer
March 04, 1952 - February 07, 2004

James S. Ekermeyer, 51, of Pine Bluff died Saturday, February 7, 2004, at University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Hospital, in Little Rock.
He was born to Craig S. and Sarah M. Brown Ekermeyer, March 4, 1952 in Franklin, Indiana, where he was reared and received his early education. He lived in several different states, before settling in Pine Bluff, in 1982. He had worked as maintenance engineer, at First Assembly of God, since 1989.
He was a member of First Assembly of God, where he worked in the Nursing Home Ministries, and served as a bus driver for the handicap bus for several years.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie A. Bursott Ekermeyer, who he married July 21, 1995, at Pine Bluff; his mother, Sarah Brown Ekermeyer of Wiggins, Mississippi; brother, Craig Ekermeyer of Wiggins; sister, Sarah and husband Mark Wooley of Alexanderia, Louisiana; two nephews, James N. Williams of Seminary, Mississippi, Timothy A. Tracy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two step-sons, John Michael Bolls of Germany, Christopher Bolls of Altheimer; and one step-daughter, Juliann Bolls of Pine Bluff.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, at First Assembly of God, with Reverends Bryan Jarrett and Ron Woods officating. Burial will be Graceland Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's, Tuesday, 6-8 P.M.
Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God, 1002 Ridgway Road, Pine Bluff, AR.71603.

Joseph C. ( Joe ) Clark, Sr.
March 25, 1924 - February 14, 2004

Mr. Joseph C. "Joe" Clark, Sr., age 79, a lifelong resident of Pine Bluff passed away early Saturday morning, February 14, 2004, at his home.
Joe was born March 25, 1924, the son of the late Joseph C and Violet McNeil Clark in Pine Bluff. He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Buff High School in the spring of 1942. He immediately went to work for the Cotton Belt Railroad, where he worked for forty-three years, taking time off to be inducted in the U.S. Navy, during World War II. He was a pipefitter and welder at the Cotton Belt until his retirement in 1985. Joe married Belle Wilson on September 16, 1944, in Pine Bluff. He was a member of Forrest Park Assembly of God, Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge # 69, F & AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Little Rock and the Sahara Shine, AAONMS, Oasis of Pine Bluff.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Belle; two sons, Joe L. and wife, Linda Clark of Pine Bluff and Joe Allen and his wife, Susanne Clark of Rison; one sister, Betty Jo Mullins of Pine Bluff; five grandchildren, Jody Clark, Kelly Williams, Tiffany Hedden, Jacki Clark and Allen Clark and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at 2:00 PM, at Forrest Park Assembly of God, 3300 Hazel Street, with Reverend David Dolton officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the Church. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery, Rural Pine Bluff.

William DeWayne ( Bill ) Ashcraft
July 21, 1952 - February 17, 2004

Mr. William DeWayne "Bill" Ashcraft, age 52, of Forrest City (formerly of Pine Bluff) went to his glory and to be with his Lord February 17, 2004. Mr. Ashcraft was born July 21, 1952, in Warren, Arkansas, a son of the late Odis Leon and Addie Merle Cox Ashcraft.
Mr. Ashcraft was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff where he attended the Dollarway Schools. After receiving the GED, he entered the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work in 1994. He then entered the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and graduated in 1995 with a Masters Degree in Social Work. He had been working in Forrest City as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for three years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Ashcraft is survived by his friend and mother of his children, Connie Ashcraft Kinsey; two sons, William Odis Ashcraft and his wife, Carrie of Jefferson and Thomas DeWayne Ashcraft of Hot Springs; one daughter, Cecilia Leona Rose Ashcraft of Little Rock; three brothers, Michael Reed of Eudora, Eddie Reed of and John Reed, both of Dumas; two sisters, Janie Garner and Glenda Parker, both of Louann and the light of his eyes grandson DeWayne and granddaughter Jessica Ashcraft.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 20, 2004, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend John Strong officiating. Burial will be in Prosperity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P M.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Human Development & Research Services, 6841 West 13th Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.
The family will be at the home of Charlene Moring at 3700 Moring Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

James William ( Jim ) Rose
January 30, 1925 - December 09, 2001

James W. "Jim" Rose, 76, of Pine Bluff died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center Sunday. Mr. Rose was born January 30, 1925, at Carlisle, Arkansas, the son of the late Edna McLaughlin and James Alexander Rose. He received his education in Carlisle, graduating from Carlisle High School.
Mr. Rose was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. Upon returning from his service in the Navy, he began working for Reynolds Metal Co. at the Arkadelphia, Arkansas plant and later at the Malvern, Arkansas plant and retired after thirty-five years of service.
Mr. Rose had been a resident of Pine Bluff since 1998 and was member of First Baptist Church of Malvern.
Mr. Rose was married to Lena Mae Tugwell on November 11, 1950, and she survives him along with one son, James Mitchell Rose of White Hall, Arkansas; one sister, Dorsie Rose Moore of Houghton, Louisiana and one grandson, James Samuel Rose, also of White Hall.
Funeral serivces will be Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at 10:00 AM, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Charles Settle officiating. Burial will be at Carlisle Cemetery at Carlisle, Arkansas with the Reverend Wade Shownes officiating. The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to First United Methodist Church, 200 West 6th Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71601 or First Baptist Church, 531 South Main, Malvern, Arkansas, 72104.

Joseph Peyton ( Joey ) Dempsey, Jr.
February 21, 1963 - February 21, 2004

Joseph P. Dempsey, Jr., 41, of Pine Bluff, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 21, 2004, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born in Pine Bluff on February 21, 1963, he was a son of Joseph P. Dempsey of Pine Bluff and Rosalee Douglas Scott of Pine Bluff.
Reared and educated in Pine Bluff, he was a 1981 graduate of Pine Bluff High School and a 1994 graduate of the University of Memphis.
Mr. Dempsey was the marketing director for Datamax of Arkansas
Survivors include his wife, Tracey Goodson Dempsey, to whom he was married June 17, 1999; one daughter, Peyton Madison Dempsey of Pine Bluff; father and step-mother, Joe and Pat Dempsey of Pine Bluff; mother and step-father, Rosalee and LaRon Scott of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Ralph Douglas Dempsey of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Robert Lee Dempsey of Conway, Arkansas; maternal grandfather, Dr. Ralph Douglas of Pine Bluff; and paternal grandmother, Eva Harmon Dempsey of El Dorado, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2004, with Rev. Charles Settle officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Little Rock. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Robinson's. They request that memorials take the form of contributions to the donor's favorite charity.

Kelly Jean Bullock
November 06, 1962 - February 20, 2004

Kelly Bullock, 41, a resident of Crofton, Maryland, died Friday, February 20, 2004, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was in Pine Bluff for a visit with her parents.
Born November 6, 1962, in Pine Bluff, she was a daughter of Harold and Alta Ann Little Bullock.
Ms. Bullock was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School. She also attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Ms. Bullock worked as a computer layout designer for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC.
Survivors include; her parents, Harold and Alta Ann Bullock of Pine Bluff; one brother, Tony Bullock of Pine Bluff; one nephew, Jacob Bullock of Pine Bluff; one niece, Sarah Bullock of Pine Bluff and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, February 23, 2004, at Broadmoor Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Sam Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Cypress Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. The family will receive guests from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, February 22, 2004, at Ralph Robinson & Son. Memorials may be made to Broadmoor Missionary Baptist Church, 1205 Wisconsin St. Pine Bluff, AR. 71601.
