Agnes Berry Carter
June 21, 1912 - May 11, 2004
Agnes Berry Carter passed away Tuesday morning, May 11, 2004, at her home. She was born June, 21, 1912, at Woodlawn, Cleveland County, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Thomas Doak and Lucy Puckett Berry and the widow of the late Frederick DeArmond Carter. The youngest of nine daughters, she grew up in Calmer and graduated from Woodlawn High School and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Before moving to Little Rock in 2003, she had lived in Dumas, Pine Bluff, and Hot Springs. Before her retirement, Mrs. Carter taught elementary school for 34 years. Through out her life she was involved in Church, school and community activities. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Little Rock.
She is survived by three daughters: Emily Carter Robertson and her husband, Rex and Nancy Carter Jacuzzi of Little Rock and Amelia Carter Manning and her husband, Charles of Charlottesville, VA, and six grandchildren: Kelly Robertson Jacobs of Tulsa, OK, Charles Carter Manning of San Diego, CA, Shannon Jacuzzi Berryhill of Little Rock, Stacy Jacuzzi Antes of Rowlett, TX, Bradley Bowker Manning, MD. of Charlottesville and Victor Steven Jacuzzi, Jr. of Little Rock. She also leaves twelve great-grandchildren: Avery and Rex Jacobs, Stuart, David and Catherine Berryhill; and Austin and Justin Antes, Henry, Charles, Amy Clare, Roen and Reagan Manning.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, May 14, 2004, at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry Street, with the Reverend W. Carter Tucker, officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Pleasant Springs Cemetery, in Drew County.
Rudolph V. Davis
March 15, 1926 - May 09, 2004
Rudolph V. Davis, age 78, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday in Pine Bluff. Mr. Davis was born March 15, 1926, in Pine Bluff, a son of the late Shelly and Lottie Honsinger Davis.
Mr. Davis was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1946. He then began attending the Eaton Barber College and graduating a year later.
He began working at Stuckey's Barber Shop in 1948, and worked there until he bought the business in 1963, and continued until his retirement on December 31, 2001. He was born in the house that stood on the spot where the barber shop still stands.
He was a member of the Whiteville Missionary Baptist Church, Jacob Brump Masonic Lodge #160, The Royal Arch of Masons, The English Council, The Commandery Master #8 and was a charter member of the National Eagle Scouts. He received his four fifty-year Masonic member pins in 2003. He received the honor of Eagle Scout in 1944. He was the sixteenth Boy Scout to receive the Eagle Scout honor in Arkansas. His Scout troop was the honor guard when President Truman came to Little Rock.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Joy Beauton Turner Davis, who he married April 30, 1960, in Pine Bluff; one step-daughter, Pam Rook of Pine Bluff; one grandaughter, Tara Cook of Pine Bluff and two great-granddaughters, Katlyn and Autumn Tharp of Frostproof, Florida.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 14, 2004, at 2:00 P M, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend John Taylor officiating. Interment will be in White Hall United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Thursday 6 to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to Arkansas Children's Hospital, 800 Marshall Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72203.
Lester W. Keys
December 26, 1907 - December 18, 2001
Lester W. Keys, 93, of Dallas, Texas, died Tuesday at Trinity Village Medical Center
in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was born December 26, 1907, in Murray, Iowa, to the late George L. and Hattie Simpson Keys. He was reared and educated in the area near Murray, Iowa.
He moved to California in 1936 where he lived until moving in 1980 to Dallas, Texas..
He married the former Hazel McKinzie on January, 15, 1980, at Reno, Nevada.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in the Dallas, Texas, area.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel McKinzie Keys, and a sister, Ruth Williams of
Bozeman, Montana.
Private services will held at Ralph Robinson and Son. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
Joe T. Ellis

Joe T. Ellis, 72, of Hot Springs, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at St. Joseph Mercy Health Center of Hot Springs.
He was born February 1, 1932, in Pine Bluff, the son of the late Ray M. Ellis and Ruth Cash Ellis. Mr. Ellis was born and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Watson Chapel High School. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force during the 
Korean War era, beginning a love for flying that would last a lifetime. He married Jimmie Bush Ellis on May 20, 1956, in Pine Bluff.
Mr. Ellis worked for International Paper for 37 years before retiring in 1994 and moving to Hot Springs.
While living in Pine Bluff, Mr. Ellis was a member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church. After moving to Hot Springs, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hot Springs, the R-C Flying Club and the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by a sister, Effie Ray Ellis.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jimmie Bush Ellis of Hot Springs; a son, James Ray Ellis, and his wife Melanie, of North Little Rock, Arkansas; a daughter, Jo Leen Simon, and her husband Hal, of Austin, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 2:30 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery
in Pine Bluff with the Rev. Bob Sowell officiating, directed by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Robinson's.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2350 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
Nancy Amanda Coats
November 14, 1977 - May 23, 2004
Nancy Amanda "Mandy" Coats, 26, a resident of White Hall died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock.
Born November 14, 1977 in Pine Bluff, she was a daughter of Jimmy and Sandy Lynn Coats.
Mandy was reared and received her early education in White Hall. She had one year of schooling in Newark, Arkansas, then moved to White Hall where she completed her education. She was a 1996 graduate of White Hall High School. She briefly attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello before being diagnosed with Batten's Disease. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in White Hall.
Mandy was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Z. T. Coats and one aunt, Nancy Lynn.
Survivors include; her parents, Jimmy and Sandy Coats of White Hall; one brother, Chad Coats of White Hall; her maternal grandparents, Bobby and Sue Lynn of El Dorado; her paternal grandmother, Mamie Jo Coats of Heber Springs; her uncle and aunt, Jerry and Lynn Coats of Heber Springs; two cousins, Stacy McClain of Batesville and Jamie Morrison of Nashville, Tennessee.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at 9:30 AM, at First Baptist Church of White Hall with Dr. Bob Harper officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM Wednesday at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery
in El Dorado with Reverend Sam Shepperson officiating. Burial will follow by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors of Pine Bluff. The visitation will be from 8:30-9:30 AM Wednesday at First Baptist Church of White Hall. H. Milton Butler
April 26, 1924 - May 27, 2004
H. Milton Butler, age 80, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Trinity Village Medical Center. Mr. Butler was born April, 26, 1924, in Rosston, Arkansas, a son of the late Herman and Cumie Fore Butler.
Mr. Butler was reared and received his early education in Bodcaw, Arkansas. He joined the US Army and served in World War II.
Upon returning from the Army, he began working in the trucking industry. He had worked at Smart Chevrolet in car sales and at Gandy Motors before retiring in 1985. He also sold watermelons at seventeenth and Ohio streets.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by Harold Butler and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jones Butler, whom he married July 26, 1951; a son, Reverend Steve Butler of Henderson, Texas; a daughter, Debbie Abbott of McGehee; a sister, Joyce Helm of Stuttgart; a brother, Derris "Duck" Butler of Hot Springs and four grandsons.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 29, 2004, at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Steve Butler and Reverend Tommy Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery
in Stuttgart.

Charles William Elkins

Charles William Elkins, age 77, of Camden, died at his residence, Saturday, May 29, 2004. Mr. Elkins was born July 2, 1926, in White Hall, a son of the late Joseph Arthur and Ollie Mae Blasengame Elkins.
Mr. Elkins was reared and received his education in White Hall, graduating from White Hall High School in 1944. After graduation, he entered the US Marines and served in World War II with both the First Marine Division and the Seventh Marine Division. He saw action on Okinawa where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. While in the Seventh Marines, the unit was awarded a Presidental Citation.
After being discharged from the Marines, he returned home to complete his education. He entered Monticello A & M College (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello) and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree and then upon completing his undergraduate degree, he entered George Peabody College (now Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, Tennessee and earned his Master's Degree. Mr. Elkins had been a Teacher, Coach, Principal and Superintendent for thirty-five years. Eighteen of those years were enjoyed at Harmony Grove.
Mr. Elkins was a member of the Methodist faith and was a Sunday School teacher. He had also been a member of both the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs. He was also a member of the Arkansas Education Association and National Education Association.
Mr. Elkins was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Elkins is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Emogene Parker Elkins; a son and daughter in law, Douglas and Janice Elkins of Houston, Texas; a daughter and son in law, Carmen and Gary Wilson of Camden; two brothers and sister in laws, Frank Elkins and wife, Vera Mae of White Hall and J. A. Elkins and wife, Clara of Pine Bluff; two grandchildren, Sarah and husband Nichols of White Oak and Shawn Wilson of Camden and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at 10:00 A M in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with the Reverend Jim Cross officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Monday evening from 6 to 8 P M.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the donor's favorite charity.
Gordon Parks Atkinson
August 26, 1948 - May 29, 2004
Gordon Parks Atkinson, 55, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Davis Life Care Center.
Born August 26, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Texas, he was a son of James P. and Marie Miller Atkinson.
Mr. Atkinson was born with cerebral palsey and moved to Pine Bluff in 1950. He attended the Jenkins Memorial Children's Center and Workshop. He was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Atkinson is survived by one brother, Jon B. Atkinson, of Pine Bluff .
A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in the Chapel of Lakeside United Methodist Church with Rev. George Williams and Rev. Ted DeWeese officiating. Services are under the direction of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 Olive St. Pine Bluff, AR 71601.
Freda Mae Knowlton Barbre
June 13, 1921 - May 31, 2004
Freda Mae Knowlton Barbre, age 82, of Pine Bluff, passed away suddenly, Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2004, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Freda was born June 13, 1921, a daughter of the late Emmit Arlie and Dove Dye Knowlton, in Hickory Ridge, AR. She moved to Pine Bluff, as a child, and was educated in the Pine Bluff School System, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1938. Jim Barbre married Freda on June 21, 1940, in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Babre loved fishing, knitting, caring for and playing with her Nephews and Nieces and cooking for her friends and family. She was a member of the 6th Street Church of Christ.
Mrs. Barbre is survived by her husband, of 64 years, Jim; and their caregiver, Sandra Haley Shiller.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Knowlton Haley.
Graveside services will be held Thursday morning, June 3, 2004, at 9:00 AM, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Ronald Eppler, officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday Evening, at Ralph Robinson and Son, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
Mary Kathryn Manning
June 28, 1932 - December 19, 2001
Mary Kathryn Dodd Manning, 69, of 5408 Old Buncombe Road, Greenville, South Carolina, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Grady Beatrice Dodd. She was formerly employed with Suitt Construction and was a member of Hampton Park Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, Billy Bob Manning of Greenville, South Carolina, a daughter, Claire M. Iler of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, a sister, Janice D. White of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, two brothers, Donald J. "Buddy" Dodd of Pine Bluff, Phillip M. Dodd of Heber Springs, Arkansas.
She was predeceased by a brother, David L. Dodd.
The funeral service will be Saturday, December 22, 2001, 4:00 P.M., Graveside at Memorial Park Cemetery
with Dr. J.R. DeBusk officiating. Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors will be in charge of the funeral arrangements.
The family will receive friends after the service, at the home of Janice White, 2100 West 26th Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
