Herman Anthony Griffey, Jr.
January 22, 1919 - March 19, 2009
Herman A. Griffey, Jr., 90, a resident of Fayetteville, and formerly of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Fayetteville.
Born January 22, 1919, in Lewisville, AR, he was a son of Herman A. Griffey, Sr. and Effie Mae Garvey Griffey. He and his family moved to Pine Bluff in 1922.
Mr. Griffey was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff. He was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School. Herman Anthony Griffey, Jr. married Wava Barfield in Star City, on April 30, 1938. Mr. Griffey was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Griffey was a conductor for the Cotton Belt Railroad, retiring in 1982, after 43 years of service. He was a member of Belair Presbyterian Church, a church board member, and past church treasurer.
Mr. Griffey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wava Barfield Griffey; one daughter, Linda Lou Griffey Romine; one son, Thomas A. Griffey.
Survivors include one son, Michael Anthony Griffey of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
There will be no formal visitation, but Mr. Griffey will lie in state at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors, Sunday, March 22, 2009.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, March 23, 2009, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend John Shell officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Loy Opal Scott (Carter)
July 13, 1920 - March 20, 2009
Loy Opal Scott, 88, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 13, 1920 in Lincoln County to Bart and Grace Cline Carter.
Mrs. Scott was reared and educated in Star City, graduating from Star City High School. She also attended Arkansas A&M.
Mrs. Scott had worked as a secretary at Jefferson County Adult Education before retiring in 1986.
She was a member of South Side Baptist Church.
Mrs. Scott enjoyed her Sunday School Class and her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T. J. Scott, whom she married on February 2, 1946, in Pine Bluff; her parents; and four brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Scott Smart of Pine Bluff; two sons, T. J. Scott, Jr., of White Hall, Michael L. Scott of Montgomery, Alabama; three sisters, Bobbie Reynolds of Star City, Gertrude McGehee of Star City, Joy Rupe of Augusta; a brother, Winford Carter of Santee, South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM, Sunday at Robinson's.
Services will be 3 PM, Monday, March 23, 2009, Chapel of Ralph Robisnon & Son, with Dr. Ed Gillham officiating.
Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery, near Star City.

Glenn Wayne Pairsh
October 28, 1933 - March 26, 2010
Glenn Wayne Pairsh, 76, a resident of Woodlawn, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Born October 28, 1933, in Holtville, California, he was a son of Johnnie and Vinita Scoggin Pairsh.
Mr. Pairsh was reared and received his early education in Holtville, California, graduating from Holtville High School. Glenn Wayne Pairsh married Linda Corbitt on February 19, 1960, in Westmoreland, California. Mr. Pairsh was a maintenance and custodial worker for the White Hall School district until his retirement in 2005. He attended Redfield United Pentecostal Church.
Mr. Pairsh was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roger Wayne Pairsh.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Linda Pairsh of Woodlawn; one son, Terry Pairsh of Woodlawn; two daughters, Debbie Pairsh and Carrie Pairsh of Woodlawn; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Jason Espinoza of Greencastle, Indiana; one daughter-in-law, Carmen Pairsh of Pine Bluff; five grandsons; four granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
The visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, March 29, 2010, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Phillip Hedden officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery

Mary Lou Hull (Smith)
August 29, 1922 - March 28, 2010
Mary Lou Smith Hull, 87, of White Hall, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, at her home, with her children at her bedside.
The only child of the late Edward Henry and Rebecca Pearl Crook Smith, she was born August 29, 1922, in Clinton, Arkansas. Orphaned at the age of ten, she was reared by her aunts Vivian and Geneva Crook and Faye Edwards. She received her early education in Clinton and was a 1941 graduate of Clinton High School. After graduating High School she moved to Little Rock, where she attended Little Rock Junior College.
She held several jobs in Little Rock, including positions at Walgreen's Pharmacy, Senator McClellan's campaign, Haverty's Furniture, Jacksonville Ordinance (she was a real Rosie the Riveter during World War II) and at Temple Cotton Oil Company.
In 1949, she married Corry Fulton Hull, together they lived in North Little Rock, Grider Field and the Pine Bluff Arsenal, before building a home in White Hall. Together they had three children, Craig Fulton, Mary Victoria and Jeffrey Dean.
In 1966, Mary Lou was widowed and managed to raise three children while working for Sutton Construction, Locke Plumbing and in 1969, was appointed Clerk/Treasure of the newly incorporated City of White Hall. Unopposed for twenty-one years as the Municipal Clerk, she raised and trained at least five Mayors during her tenure at the City.
She was the oldest surviving member of the White Hall United Methodist Church, and a longtime member of the Adele Phillips United Methodist Women Circle. She was active in her community and received numerous awards for her service from the White Hall Chamber of Commerce and the City of White Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Corry F. Hull.
She survived by her three children, Craig Fulton Hull, and wife Caelli, of Rogers, Arkansas, Mary Victoria Jones, and Husband, Marcell of Little Rock and Jeffrey Dean Hull of Denton, Texas; four grandchildren, Morgan Taylor Hull, Corry Hull, II, Brandy Armstrong and Merdith Clement; and dozens of grand dogs.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at White Hall United Methodist Cemetery
with Reverend J.J. Galloway officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. The family received friends from 6-8 PM, Monday at White Hall United Methodist Church. Friends may sign the online register at www.ralphrobinsonandson.com.

Mary Katherine "Kathy" Mooty (Burris)

Mary Katherine "Kathy" Mooty, age 74, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Mrs. Mooty was born April 17, 1935, in Dexter, New Mexico. She was the daughter of the late James Edgar and Lena Elizabeth Burris.
She was reared and educated in Roswell, New Mexico and was a 1954 graduate of Roswell High School.
She moved to Pine Bluff in 1956.
She attended South Side Baptist Church and was a retired head bookkeeper and office manager for Refridgeration & Electrical Supply Company in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Mrs. Mooty was preceded in death by a brother, Fredrick Leon Burris.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Mooty, whom she married October 2, 1956, in Roswell; two daughters, Terri Leonard of Pine Bluff and Diane Mooty of North Little Rock, and a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Robin Mooty of Dexter, Missouri; two grandsons, Jeremy Mooty of Jackson, Missouri and Danny J. Wiley, Jr. of Pine Bluff, two great-granddaughters, Ava Mooty and Lola Mooty and their mother, Molly Mooty of Jackson, Missouri; one sister, Pearl Elizabeth Roberson of Roswell, New Mexico and an aunt, Mary Lott,of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 10:00 AM in Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Ed Gillham officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 PM.

Gladys M. "Pud" Massanelli (Phillips)

Gladys "Pud" Massanelli, age 76, of Pine Bluff, died at her home, Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Mrs. Massanelli was born November 6, 1932, in Dewitt, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Frank A. and Edna Ramer Phillips.
Mrs. Massanelli was reared and received her education in Dewitt. She was a graduate of Dewitt High School.
She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church and several civic organizations.
Mrs. Massanelli had worked as a sales clerk for Eddie’s Grocery and Perdue’s Office Supplies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert, Felix and Hallie Phillips; three sisters, Lillie Young, Dee Buggar and Cecil Gounchenouer.
Mrs. Massanelli is survived by her husband, Henry, whom she married May 2, 1953; four daughters, Paula Burns of Springdale, Debbie Barrow and husband, Ted, of Willow Park, Texas, Terri Metzler and husband, David, of Fort Worth, Texas and Henri Sabin and husband, Kevin, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one son, Chris Massanelli and wife, Jennifer, of Rogers; one sister, Hazel Watson of Booneville; two sisters-in-law, Dolly Bogy and Celesta Gurnsey, both of Pine Bluff and eleven grandchildren.
A Rosary service will be Friday, January 2, 2009, at 6:00 P M in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 11:00 A M at St Joseph Catholic Church with Father L. Warren Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Jerry Marshall Hopkins
June 27, 1935 - January 3, 2009
Jerry Marshall Hopkins, 73, a resident of White Hall, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
Born June 27, 1935, in Watson, AR he was a son of Wiley and Mary Frances Bell Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff. He was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School, and attended Arkansas A&M, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, before joining the United States Navy. He served as a radar technician aboard the carrier U. S. S. Franklin Delano Roosevelt from 1956-1960.
Mr. Hopkins worked thirty years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He then worked part-time in security for Simmons First National Bank. He was also a member of the Jefferson County Mounted Patrol. Jerry Marshall Hopkins married Alpha de Guzman on June 7, 1980, in Pine Bluff.
Mr. Hopkins was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he taught the Junior Boys and Senior Adult Sunday School classes.
Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Deveny Hopkins; twin brother, James Hopkins; step-father Hershel Lloyd; one step-sister, Cathy Lloyd Vardaman; his aunt and uncle, Clarence and Thelma Peebles, who raised him.
Survivors include his wife Alpha Hopkins of White Hall; two sons, Marshall J. Hopkins of Little Rock, and Matthew Hopkins of San Diego, CA; step-son, Neil Devine of Chicago; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Edward S. And Rebecca Lyn Devine of San Diego, Randy and Janie Deveny of Little Rock, Royce and Blanche Deveny of Spring, TX, Richard and Barbara Deveny of Corinth, TX, brother, Charles Lloyd of McGehee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Sandra Lloyd and Ronald and Ann Lloyd all of McGehee; sister, JoAnn Wynne of McGehee; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Warren Collins of Oklahoma City, OK; five grandchildren.
The visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 PM Monday, January 5, 2009, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
