Joyce M. Myers
May 19, 1934 - October 3, 2007

Joyce M. Myers, 73, of Dumas, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at home.

She was born May 19, 1934 in Sherrill to Wylie and Maggie Elkins Brazeale. Mrs. Myers was reared and received her early education in Pastoria and Sherrill, graduating from Linwood High School in 1952.

Mrs. Myers worked as the manager for the EZ Food Store in Broadmoor in the 1960s. She owned and operated several family businesses in the 1970s and 1980s before beginning her career with the Pine Bluff School District as a teacher’s aid in 1983. She retired in 1994 as the secretary for the Pine Bluff School District Assistant Superintendent.

She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church in Gould and a past member of the ABWA Saracen Chapter in Pine Bluff.

Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert S. Myers, whom she married October 5, 1992 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; parents; and a grandson, Tyler Curtis.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Curtis of Little Rock, Sandy Staggs of Grady and Leigh Rogers of Dumas; two brothers, Don Brazeale of Tamo and Gary Brazeale of Star City; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 5, 2007 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Dr. William "Dubs" Byers officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until service time at Robinson’s.

Evelyn Wilson (Maples)
September 21, 1928 - October 5, 2007

Evelyn Wilson, 79, a long time resident of Pine Bluff, Arkansas passed away Friday, October 5, 2007 at Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village, Arkansas.

The daughter of the late Arlin "Bud" and Vera West Maples, she was born September 21, 1928 in Jefferson County, Arkansas. She was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, a 1947 graduate of Watson Chapel High School.

She was a Stanley Home Products dealer for over 20 years retiring in 2004. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and received the Business Woman of the Year award. She was and active member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church and a GA Leader there. She was also very active in her community, when her children were young she was a Girl Scout, Cub Scout and 4-H Leader, and also served as president of the Sulphur Springs PTA. She was a member of the Watson Chapel Alumni Assocation and the Order of the Eastern Star. In the 1940’s she sang on a local radio show. She was a Member of the Extension Homemakers for over 50 years. She was an accomplished cook and loved gardening. She was a caring, loving and out going person who loved people and never met a stranger. She welcomed all her children's friends in to her home and was often known for feeding all who were there.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Joe Willmon.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Johnny A. Wilson, whom she married August 1, 1948; one daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Greg Bland, of Lake Village, Arkansas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Shirley Wilson, of Redfield, Arkansas, Johnny Arlin and Jackie Wilson, of Jefferson, Arkansas, and Joey and Penny Wilson, of White Hall, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Michelle Green, Kristy Dickey, Brock Bland, Maleei House, Jania Brown, Jaclyn Lewis, Ryan Arlin Wilson, Joseph Wilson, Marly Naron and Evan Wilson; and ten great-grandchildren, Tea and Mina Bland, Jon Brandon and Gage House, Christian Brown, Zachery, Zander and Trinity Lewis and Megan and Sawyer Dickey.

The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 PM Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Robinson’s. Services will be held Monday, October 8, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Shell Cemetery at Grapevine in Grant County.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Jefferson County 4-H Clubs.

Phillip "Phil" Maze
November 9, 1931 - October 6, 2007

Phillip "Phil" Maze, 75, of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He was born November 9, 1931 in Muscatine, Iowa, son of the late Phillip Charles Maze and Illa Hurley Maze Wenzel. Mr. Maze was reared and received his early education in Janesville, Wisconsin, graduating from Janesville High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. While in the Navy, Mr. Maze was stationed in Guam for two years and on the USS Karin for two years.

Mr. Maze worked with heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and electrical installation and repair most of his adult life. He worked for Commercial Refrigeration for five years and then Witte Barker Refrigeration for another five years, both in Beloit, Wisconsin. Mr. Maze then owned and operated Phil's Refrigeration in Janesville, Wisconsin for 22 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Janesville, Wisconsin for many years and later St. Luke Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona. Mr. Maze was a life member of the VFW, member of the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association and member of the Refrigeration Services and Engineering Society. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and flying.

Mr. Maze was preceded in death by his step-father, Fritz Wenzel.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Faye Bryant Maze, whom he married November 13, 1954 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James G. Bryant and his wife, Linda of Rising Fawn, Georgia.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 10, 2007 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Dr. W.C. Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Robinson's.

Mary Elizabeth Dodd
June 28, 1911 - October 6, 2007

Mary Elizabeth Dodd, 96, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Trinity Village Medical Center.

She was born June 28, 1911 in Rison, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Andrew McConnel Coleman and Ella Tyce Coleman.

Mrs. Dodd moved to Jefferson County with her family in 1919 and attended Whiteville and Watson Chapel schools.

She married the late J.C. Dodd June 9, 1934 in Pine Bluff. He preceded her in death May 16, 1984.

Mrs. Dodd was also preceded in death by one sister, Fannie Bruce Coleman Ashcraft and one brother, Joe Coleman.

Survivors include one son, Reverend Jay Coleman Dodd of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Kristi McKown of Springdale, Arkansas and Matthew Edmund of Boardman, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 10, 2007 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Jay Coleman Dodd and Reverend Jim Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at Robinson’s.

Memorials may be made to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 Olive St., Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601.

George W. Walker
May 20, 1925 - October 7, 2007

George W. Walker, 82, a resident of Lake Village and formerly of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.

Born May 20, 1925, in Pine Bluff, he was a son of Wade and Beatrice Boyt Walker.

Mr. Walker was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff. After graduation from Pine Bluff High School, he joined the United States Navy and served until 1946. While in the Navy he married Faye Ault. After being discharged he went to work for Arkansas Power and Light and worked his way to the position of District Manager for the Southeast Arkansas District.

He retired from Arkansas Power and Light in 1984.

Mr. Walker was a member and deacon of the Lake Village Presbyterian Church. He was a Master Mason with 50 years service, a 50 year Shriner, Chapter Chairman for the Southeast Arkansas American Red Cross, past president and board member of the Lake Village Chamber of Commerce, past member of the Lake Village Fire Department, past president of the Chicot County Fair Association, 1957 Man of the Year in Eudora, and 1971 Man of the Year in Lake Village.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Sikora.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Faye Ault Walker of Lake Village; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and David Hunter of Lake Village; granddaughter and husband, Carrie and Chris Pieroni; grandson and wife, David and Nell Hunter; grandsons, James Taylor Hunter and Anthony Sikora; granddaughter and husband, Karen and Scott Standridge; granddaughter and husband, Rebecca and Adam Jennings; granddaughter, Elizabeth Sikora; eight great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at Ralph Robinson & Son.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 11, 2007, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Charles Spillyards officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Lake Village, Lake Village, Arkansas.

Margaret Jane Cossey (Moore)
April 13, 1934 - October 6, 2007

Margaret Jane Cossey, age 73, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the Allegiance Specialty Hospital in Little Rock. Mrs. Cossey was born April 13, 1934, in Guy, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Robert E. "Bob" and Clara Ann Battles Moore.

At age three, Mrs. Cossey moved with her family to Pine Bluff. She has lived here since that time. She is a 1952 graduate of Pine Bluff High School.

Mrs. Cossey was a member of Belair Presbyterian Church.

She had worked at Kress's Department Store and Baim's Department Store, Dales Drugs, the Pine Bluff Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, the Pine Bluff Allergy Clinic and retired from Jefferson Regional Medical Center where she worked as a Medical Transcriptionist in the Medical Records Department.

Mrs. Cossey was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Parker and two brothers, Lloyd and Bobby Moore.

She is survived by a daughter, Dallas Ann Cossey of Pine Bluff and a brother, James M. Moore of White Hall, a nephew, H. L. "Mo" Moore, Jr. Of Farmerville, Texas and a niece, Linda Kay "Lulu" Moore Cox of Little Rock.

No service is planned at this time. By request of Mrs. Cossey, she will be cremated. Cremation arrangements are by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Mary Sue Ellis (England)
January 11, 1924 - October 8, 2007

Mary Sue Ellis, age 83, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, October 8, 2007, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Ellis was born January 11, 1924, in Kedron, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Julius Talmadge and Mary Ethel Etter England.

Mrs. Ellis moved with her family to Pine Bluff as a young child. She attended the Watson Chapel schools and was a 1942 graduate of Watson Chapel High School.

Mrs. Ellis was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She was married to Mr. Ralph L. "Doc" Ellis June 23, 1942, in Hot Springs and he preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James England.

Mrs. Ellis is survived by two sons, Charles Ronny Ellis and Roger Darrell Ellis, both of Pine Bluff; one daughter, Sherry Lynn Sparks of Tampa, Florida; a sister, Janie Crawley of League City, Texas; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 12, 2007, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Charles Cantwell officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson’s Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to New Beginnings Baptist Church Nursery Fund, 8826 Old Warren Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

Helen Marie McDonald (Harper)
December 10, 1924 - October 6, 2007

Helen Marie McDonald, 82, of Mount Ulla, North Carolina, a long time resident of Pine Bluff died Saturday, October 6, 2007, at home in Mooresville, North Carolina.

Mrs. McDonald was born December 10, 1924, in Sheridan, Arkansas, to the late Allen Lee Harper and Ora Virginia Gregory Harper. She was reared and received her education in Sheridan, Arkansas.

Helen Marie Harper married David Rowland McDonald on November 23, 1944 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was a very active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of White Hall for over 20 years remaining dedicated to her church family and friends even after moving to North Carolina. Mrs. McDonald was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David Rowland McDonald, two brothers, Clarence and Coy Harper, and three sisters, Gladys Murphy, Mary Coats, and Willie Hill

Her survivors include her sister, Ida Faye Woodfield of Longbeach, Mississippi; a brother, Paul Harper of Pine Bluff; three daughters, Faye Garrison and husband Terry of Mt. Ulla, North Carolina, Diana Petterson and husband Bill of Northglenn, Colorado, and Hedy Stansell of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, John Cominiello, Mick Burris, and Frank Esposito, all of Denver, Colorado, Angela and husband Eric Ohme of Coupeville, Washington, Michele O'Brien of Denver, Colorado, and Shontel Esposito of Denver, Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Robinson's.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 12, 2007, 10:00 AM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Dr. Bob Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Bellwood Annex Cemetery.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church of White Hall Building Fund, 8708 Dollarway Road, White Hall, Arkansas 71602 or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 150 Fairview Road, Suite 325, Mooresville, North Carolina 28117.

Billie Gaitha McIntosh (Hornbeck)
February 15, 1926 - December 5, 2007

Billie Gaitha Hornbeck McIntosh, 81, of Rison, passed from this life Wednesday, December 5, at Arkansas Convalescent Center in Pine Bluff.
She was born on February 15, 1926, in Sherrill, Arkansas, the daughter of Perry Aubrey (Bill) Hornbeck and Arlena Gaitha Davis Hornbeck. She graduated from Kennett High School in Kennett, Missouri and attended Arkansas State University at Jonesboro. She worked as a legal secretary on the East coast and in the mid-1950s, taught ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Washington, D.C. She returned to Pine Bluff in 1958, where she worked briefly at Pine Bluff Heating and Air Conditioning before a loss of vision forced her to retire.
Although her family was small, it was her greatest joy and a lifelong source of pride. Despite her own disability, she was a caretaker for her mother, a devoted single parent to her only child, Lisa Rowland of Rison, and a loving caregiver to her only grandchild, Caitlin Rowland, of Rison. She is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Kylie Rowland of Rison. She will be remembered for her kindness, her patience, her generosity, and her religious faith, which gave her the strength she needed to face Alzheimer's Disease with dignity, courage and a positive attitude.
A special thank you to Linda Pennington and the staff at Arkansas Convalescent Center for their long term love, compassion and support.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday December 6, 2007, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, December 7, 2007, in the Merritt Chapel at Jefferson Regional Medical Center with Reverend Kofi Adzaku officiating.
