Josephine Brooks (Wesolowski)
February 3, 1938 - December 6, 2007

Josephine Wesolowski Brooks, 69, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at home.

She was born February 3, 1938 in Camden, New Jersey, daughter of the late Walter and Anna Dzierzyc Wesolowski. Mrs. Brooks was reared and received her early education in Camden, New Jersey, where she graduated from high school.

Mrs. Brooks was a travel agent for Arkansas Travel for many years. After retiring from Arkansas Travel, she worked in the accounting department for First Arkansas Insurance.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Buzzin’ Dozen. Mrs. Brooks was serving as the St. Joseph Religious Education Secretary at the time of her death.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Stype of Maumelle, Arkansas, Donna Brooks of Longmont, Colorado and Kathy Hatwig of Colleyville, Texas; sister, Elaine Giansanti of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; and six grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 10, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. At St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father L. Warren Harvey officiating. Burial will be at a later date in New Jersey. A Vigil service will be in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Sunday at 5:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, PO Box 7434, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71611; or Neighbor to Neighbor, 1419 Pine Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601.

Donald Raymond Key
November 24, 1945 - December 6, 2007

Donald Raymond Key, age 62, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, December 6, 2007, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Mr. Key was born November 24, 1945, in Oakland, California, a son of the late Donald Palmer and Joyce Parker Key.

Mr. Key was reared and educated in Oklahoma and Texas.

He had been a ressident of Pine Bluff since 2000.

Mr. Key was a member of Whiteville Missionary Baptist Church and had recently become an ordained minister. His mission as a minister was to fight pornography. He was also a driver for Maverick Trucking Company of Little Rock.

He is survived by his ex-wife and caregiver, Mrs. Carol Key; four sons, Noah McKanna of Wasola, Missouri, Daniel Key of Monroe, Oklahoma, Tommy Key of San Leandro, California and Anthony Loren Key of California; four daughters, Elizabeth Acevedo of Concord, California, Michaela and Katie McKanna of Wasola, Missouri and Christina Louise Key of California; nine grandchildren

A Memorial Service will be held at Whiteville Missionary Baptist Church Monday, December 10, 2007, at 10:00 AM with Reverend Mark Sikes officiating.

Cremation arrangements are by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Robert N. Rankin
June 9, 1921 - December 8, 2007

Robert N. Rankin Jr, 86, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at his home.

Born June 9, 1921, in Leola, he was a son of Robert N. Rankin Sr. And Minnie Alice Keen Rankin.

Mr. Rankin was reared and received his early education in Fordyce, graduating from Fordyce High School. He married Eunice Maurine Barringer on April 7, 1942, in Fordyce. He was a lay-out for Central Maloney for 33 years, retiring in 1983.

Mr. Rankin was a member and former deacon at First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church. He loved to build barbecue grills and fishing.

Mr. Rankin was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William A. Rankin, Henry Rankin, and James Rankin; two sisters, Jean West, and Eula Mae Pate.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Eunice Rankin of Pine Bluff; three daughters, Rita Johnson of Texarkana, AR, Sandra Holland of White Hall, and Lori Hubbard of Texarkana; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, December 10, 2007, at Ralph Robinson & Son.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 11, 2007, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son, with Reverend Chris Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.

Memorials may be made to First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church 1500 West 73rd Ave, Pine Bluff, AR. 71603.

Annie Dora Rowland (Noe)
November 13, 1910 - December 9, 2007

Annie Dora Noe Rowland, 97, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Davis Life Care.

She was born November 13, 1910, in Dallas County, Arkansas, to John Hodge and Anna Hall Noe.

She attended Little Rock Central High School and married Elmo Leon Rowland in March of 1929. Mr. Rowland died in 1977.

Mrs. Rowland lived in Pine Bluff since 1933. Her backyard garden was a joy and she spent many hours just sitting and enjoying it. She loved to fish on Lake Chicot and to hunt. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She loved to sew and crochet for church bazaars and for her children, friends, and neighbors until her eyesight failed. Her family meals are legendary. She is greatly missed.

Mrs. Rowland was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and one daughter-in-law.

Survivors include son Robert Rowland of Watson Chapel; son and daughter-in-law, David and Jean Rowland of Stuttgart; one daughter and son-in-law, Amelia and Dan Lais of Lebanon, Oregon; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her close friend, Clara Meyer of Pine Bluff.

There will be no formal visitation but Mrs. Rowland will lie in state at Ralph Robinson & Son.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Jimmie Kirkwood. Interment will follow by Ralph Robinson & Son.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3010 Hazel St. Pine Bluff, AR 71603.

Michael W. Ray
August 19, 1960 - December 9, 2007

Michael W. Ray, 47, of Star City, Arkansas, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Ray was born August 19, 1960, in Shreveport, Louisiana, a son of Otis Orlen Ray and Elsie Louise Paige Ray. He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, where he attended Pine Bluff High School.

Mr. Ray was a painting contractor. He was currently employed at Duncan Home Improvements.

He was a baptist.

Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, Tammy Ray of Star City, who he married on April 15, 2006, in Pine Bluff; a son, Aarron Daniel Ray of Conway; a daughter, Nikki Danielle Ray of Denver, Colorado; two step-sons, Jonathan Craig Brinegar of Camden and Luther Lee Brinegar of Houston, Texas; a step-granddaughter, Amy Marie Brinegar of Camden; four brothers, Lonnie Ray of Pine Bluff, Bennie Ray of Oran, Missouri, Ricky Lynn Ray of Pine Bluff, and James Wesley Ray of Star City; a sister, Donna Ray Bradley of South Haven, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Paula Ray Moore, Mary Alice Jackson, and Patricia Ann Studdard.

Funeral services will be December 12, 2007, at 10:00 AM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend James C. Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in Fitzhugh cemetery.

Lucille Reed (Case)
April 8, 1937 - December 11, 2007

Lucille (Case) Reed, 70, of Pine Bluff was born April, 8, 1937 to the union of the late James Carl and Beedie Mae (McKinzie) Case. She was at home when the Lord called her to come home to him on Tuesday, December 11, 2007. She was raised and reared in Star City where she received her education before moving to Pine Bluff.

She left behind to do God's work, her beloved husband and best friend of 29 years Johnnie Charles Reed. They were married on November 22, 1978 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was a member of South Pinewood Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for several years. She was a member of the Red Hats Club and Good Timers through South Pinewood Baptist Church. She worked at Weyerhouser / Mid-America Bag Plant for 20 years before retiring to be with her husband.

She leaves behind 9 very loved and cherished children: her sons, Roger Wayne Donaldson and wife, Tressia of Monticello, Ricky Lynn Donaldson and wife, Regina of Royal, Jimmy Carl Donaldson and wife, Anita of Pine Bluff, and Randy Scott Donaldson of Amagom, and her daughter, Beverly Ann Owens and husband, Michael of Pine Bluff, step-daughters Debra Waits and husband, Carl of White Hall, Gail Heroman of Plano, Texas, Melanie Molsbee and husband, Charles of Royal, and step-son Jeff Reed and wife, Renee of Allen, Texas. Then there are her twelve precious grandchildren, Rodney, Amber, Billy Joe (B.J.), Scott, James Brandon, Shannon, Suzanna, Todd, Chad, Michael Brandon, Brandi and Chris; and thirteen precious great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Katherine, Paige, Jeffery, Caralyne, Claira Ann, Jayce, Kalon, Peyton, Georganne, Adam, Morgan and Nash.

Her beloved sisters are Vera Moran of Star City, Louise Sipes of Monticello, and Lela Reed of Woodlawn, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and church family. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Little Jeremiah Nicholas Claggett, age 2 1/2 months, who went ahead on June 26, 2007 and lighted the path for his great-grandmother and her best friend, Deana Corder of Little Rock..

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 13, 2007 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Mark Wheeler and Reverend Bill Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Rowell Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Robinson's.

John Ellis "Pete" Caruthers
September 17, 1920 - December 12, 2007

John Ellis "Pete" Caruthers, 87, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Davis Life Care Center.

He was born September 17, 1920 in Pine Bluff, son of the late C. K. Caruthers, Jr. And Lena Rowell Caruthers.

Mr. Caruthers was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1938. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. While at Fayetteville, Mr. Caruthers was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) Fraternity and later became a life member of the University of Arkansas Alumni Association.

After college, Mr. Caruthers entered the United States Army. He served in the 90th Infantry Division, Third Army under General Patton. Mr. Caruthers participated in the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach and five campaigns in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Cluster and rose to First Lieutenant before receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.

Mr. Caruthers returned to Pine Bluff and worked for Arkansas Power and Light as a Substation Design Engineer from 1946-1954. He went to work for Central Transformer Corporation (now Central Moloney, Inc.) in 1954 and eventually became Vice President of Sales and a member of their Board of Directors. In 1972, Mr. Caruthers became General Manager of Standard Brake Shoe and Foundry. He retired in 1984.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on their Administrative Board. Mr. Caruthers was a Mason and member of Quapaw Lodge #730 F&AM, member of the Arkansas Consistory and member of the Sahara Shrine Temple. He was a past Director of Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce and member of Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Caruthers served as a past Director and 1968 General Chairman of the Jefferson County United Way. He was a past director of Arkansas Careers, Inc. and past board member of Trinity Village, Inc. Mr. Caruthers was past President and member of Board of Directors of Pine Bluff Country Club.

Mr. Caruthers was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Foster Caruthers, whom he married August 15, 1942 in Wellsburg, West Virginia; son, John E. Caruthers, Jr.; three brothers, C. K. Caruthers, Jr., Captain W. R. Caruthers and H. Moody Caruthers.

Survivors include his daughter, Jamie Caruthers O'Banion and her husband, Michael, of Ruston, Louisiana; brother-in-law, James P. Foster of Fort Smith, Arkansas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend David Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening at Robinson's from 6:30-8:30 P.M.

Imogene Rodgers (Hulse)
March 2, 1928 - December 13, 2007

Imogene Hulse Rodgers, 79, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Rodgers was born March 2, 1928, in Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Irving Hulse and Birdie Hogan Hulse. A lifetime resident of Pine Bluff, she graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1946.

Imogene Hulse married Billy G. Rodgers on December 21, 1947 in Pine Bluff.

Mrs. Rodgers was employed at the Department of Public Welfare for 25 years retiring in 1968 as a stenographer. She had previously worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

Mrs. Rodgers was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church, where she attended the Adult VII Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Jancees, where she served as president for two years. She volunteered with Easter Seals, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She also taught Sunday School in the Children's Department at Immanuel Baptist Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Billy G. Rodgers of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Billie Jean Davenport of Pine Bluff; a grandaughter, Jennifer Hankins of Maumelle; a brother, Harold "Sonny" Hulse of Pine Bluff; and a sister, Theda Montgomery of Portland, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Martha Rowland, Louise Hester, and Maurice Hendrix.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 14, 2007, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Robinson's.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 3:30 PM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson with Reverend Todd Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Watson Chapel Baptist Church, 5514 Pinnacle Lane, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.
