Karen Ann Favers (Crisco)
April 21, 1956 - December 11, 2007

Karen Ann Crisco Favers, 51, a resident of Pine Bluff, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at her home.

A daughter of Thomas E. "Buddy" Crisco and the late Pauline Brandon Crisco, she was born April 21, 1956, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, attending and graduating from Watson Chapel High School. She also attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia.

She married Melvin Favers on November 16, 1985, in Pine Bluff.

Mrs. Favers worked as a construction painter for many years. She loved to paint and often painted family member’s homes.

In her youth, she was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church. More recently she had attended First United Pentecostal Church now White Hall United Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Crisco, who passed away earlier this year.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Melvin D. Favers of Pine Bluff; two sons Lucas Gibbins of Pine Bluff, and Joshua Favers of Little Rock; her father Thomas E. "Buddy" Crisco, of Bismark, Arkansas and one sister, Paula Bond of White Hall.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 14, 2007, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Robinson's.

Services will be held 1:30 PM, Saturday, December 15, 2007 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend A. D. Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Good Faith Cemetery.

Betty J. Wingard (Dawson)
May 24, 1926 - December 13, 2007

Betty J. Wingard, age 81, of the Sulphur Springs Community, died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Wingard was born May 24, 1926, in Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary Irene Cutrell Dawson.

Mrs. Wingard was reared and educated in Pine Bluff where she attended the Pine Bluff schools. She was a lifelong resident of Pine Bluff.

She was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

She worked for the Watson Chapel schools in the cafeteria and retired as Manager

Mrs. Wingard was preceded in death in 2002, by her husband, Wayne Cleveland Wingard, whom she married September 15, 1948, in Pine Bluff and three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Wingard and wife, Linda, of Pine Bluff and Richard Wingard and wife, Yvonne, of White Hall; one daughter, Mary Burks and husband, Allen, of Houston, Texas; one brother, Bill Dawson, Sr. and wife Mary Ann, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 17, 2007, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Billy West and Dr. Bob Harper officiating. Burial will be in Fitzhugh Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson's Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 PM.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, 9127 Sulphur Springs Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

Bertha Lavonia Abernathy
November 5, 1903 - December 3, 2002

Bertha Lavonia Abernathy, age 99, of Pine Bluff, passed away early Tuesday morning, at the Arkansas Convalescent Center .

Mrs. Abernathy was born November 5, 1903, a daughter of the late Joe and Etta Duncan Wilson in Sheridan, Arkansas. She was reared and educated in Sheridan. She married Percy J. Abernathy on April 9, 1926 in Pine Bluff. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1977..

They farmed at Noble Lake for many years. Mrs. Abernathy was a charter member of Linwood Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Percy Abernathy, Jr. of Pine Bluff ; two (2) grandchildren and five (5) great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Floyd Preston Wilson; two sisters, Thelma Jo Fountaine and Jamie Ward.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2002, at 10:00 am, at Graceland Cemetery, 2118 West Pullen, Pine Bluff. Directed by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors. Reverend Lex Eakers will officiate.

Memorials should be made to the Linwood Baptist Church, 8932 Highway 65 South, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603 or to the Donor's choice.

Ronnie Wayne Adams
September 13, 1952 - June 9, 2003

Ronnie W. Adams, 50, of Pine Bluff, died at home Monday, June 9, 2003. Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, on September 13, 1952, he was reared and received his early education in Greenville, Mississippi. A son of Ann Gomillion Adams of Greenville and the late John L. Adams, he was a graduate of Greenville High School, attended the University of Maryland, the University of Mississippi at Jackson, was a graduate of Mississippi Delta Junior College.

Mr. Adams served in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1976. He served as a medic in Germany and retired from the US Air Force Reserve in 1978 as a sergeant.

He and his family moved to Pine Bluff in 1985 where he became general manager and co-owner of Port City Janitors Supply and Paper, Inc. A registered nurse, he also worked at Jefferson Regional Medical Center for ten years until ill health forced his retirement in May of 2002 from his position as House Supervisor.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He coached soccer at Seabrook YMCA for several years. He was a member of the Greater Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Chamber After Hours Committee.

His survivors include his wife, Melanee Maranto Adams, to whom he was married in Greenville on June 25, 1972; three sons, Ronnie Adams, Jr., and Wesley Adams of Searcy, Arkansas, Bradford Adams of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his mother; two brothers, David R. Adams of Atlanta, Georgia, and John Dale Adams of Greenville; one sister, Jackie E. Adams of Greenville; and two grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Adams.

Services will be Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend W. Lee Kinney officiating. Committal services will be Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery between Greenville and Leland, Mississippi. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Box 6635, Pine Bluff, AR 71611; Hospice Care Services, 3801 Camden Road, Pine Bluff 71603; or First Presbyterian Church, 717 West 32nd, Pine Bluff 71603.

Larry Don Adams
July 13, 1947 - September 22, 2003

Larry Don Adams, age 56, of Pine Bluff, passed away late Monday afternoon, September 22, 2003, at Southwestern Regional Medical Center, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Larry was born July 13, 1947, in Sherrill, Arkansas, a son of the late Edgar and Rutha Ellen Fitch Adams. Larry and his family moved to the Pine Bluff area in 1959. Larry has most recently been a resident and in training at the Alexander Human Development Center. Mr. Adams was an avid Razorback fan and loved music.

Mr. Adams is survived by three sisters, Shirley Prince of Mabelvale, Arkansas, Carol Bullock of Shreveport, Louisiana and Sarah Horton of Pine Bluff; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning, September 25, 2003, at 10:00 AM, at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, 807 Cherry Street, with Mike Holcomb officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, at the funeral home, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Pine Bluff.

Bertha Kilmer Akenhead
April 18, 1912 - December 16, 2004

Bertha Kilmer Akenhead, 92, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, December 16, 2004, at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born April 18, 1912, in Reydell, she was a daughter of Bert Floyd and Mary Ann Hardister Kilmer.

Mrs. Akenhead was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff. She was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School. She married Loyd L. Akenhead in Pine Bluff on June 9, 1932. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Pine Bluff. She was a member of Carr Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Akenhead was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd L. Akenhead; her parents and two sisters, Inez Meeker and Myrtle Lee Haag.

Survivors include one son, L.L. "Pete" Akenhead of Austin, Texas; one sister, Imogene Goodwin of Bellville, Illinois, three grandchildren; and two caregivers, Larry Bradshaw and Mary McCaskill, both of Pine Bluff.

The funeral will be at 1:30 PM Tuesday, December 17, 2004, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Mary Susan Hilliard officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Cemetery. The visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, December 20, 2004, at Ralph Robinson & Son.

Melba Jo Hammond Agerton
December 14, 1908 - April 23, 2005

Melba Jo Hammond Agerton, 96, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Trinity Village Medical Center.

Mrs. Agerton was born December 14, 1908 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to the late Edward M. and Josie Lehman Hammond. She was reared and educated in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where she graduated from North Little Rock High School. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1938 from Florence, Colorado.

She married Dr. Tom Agerton, Sr. on July 27, 1930 in Canon City, Colorado. Dr. Agerton died January 8, 1992.

Mrs. Agerton was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pine Bluff. She was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and was a former Red Cross Volunteer.

Mrs. Agerton is survived by a son, Dr. Tom Agerton of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; a daughter, Yvonne Glendenning of Camano Island, Washington; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Tom Agerton, Sr., and a grandchild, Kevin Glendenning.

Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at 2:00 PM, at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Reverend William Lee Kinney officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Village Medical Center, 6400 Trinity Drive, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

The family will be at the home of Dr. Tom Agerton, 1404 West 33rd Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Brig. Gen. William T. Seawell (Ret.)
January 27, 1918 - May 20, 2005

William T. Seawell, Brigadier General, United States Air Force (Retired), 87, of Pine Bluff, died Friday at his home. General Seawell was born January 27, 1918 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, a son of the late George Marion and Harriet Aldridge Seawell.

General Seawell was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. He was a graduate from both the United States military Academy receiving his bachelor of science degree there in 1941, and Harvard University School of Law, receiving his juris doctor degree in 1949.

After his graduation from West Point he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1941, advancing through grades to Brigadier General of the United States Air Force in 1959.

During World War II, he was Commanding Officer of the United States Army Air Corps 615th Bombardment Squadron and the 401st Bombardment Group, Eighth Air Force in the European Theater of Operations. For his service in World War II, General Seawell received the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation with Cluster, and the Croix de Guerre with Palm from the Republic of France.

After World War II, he was Commander of the United States Air Force 11th Bomb Wing, Strategic Air Command from 1953 to 1954. He was Deputy Commander of the USAF 7th Air Division from 1954 to 1955. General Seawell served as military Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force from 1958 to 1959 and then to the Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1959 to 1961. He was Commandant of Cadets at the United States Air Force Academy from 1961 to 1963, retiring from military service in 1963.

General Seawell then became Vice President of Operations and Engineering for the Air Transport Association from 1963 to 1965 in Washington, DC. Moving to New York City, he then became Senior Vice President of Operations of American Airlines from 1965 to 1968. From 1968 to 1971 he served as President of Rolls Royce Aero Engines, the United States subsidiary of Rolls Royce Ltd.

In 1971 General Seawell joined Pan American World Airways. He was President and Chief Operations Officer of PanAm from 1971 to 1972 and Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of PanAm from 1972 to 1981.

General Seawell retired from the Board of Directors from Inter-Continental Hotels Corporation, McDermott International, and McGraw-Hill, Inc. He was an inductee into the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame.

Since returning to Pine Bluff, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas and as President of the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas Endowment Board.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Alexander Seawell, whom he married on June 12, 1941; one son, Alexander Brooke Seawell and his wife, Pat, of Menlo Park, California; one daughter, Anne Seawell Robinson and her husband, Adam, of Pine Bluff; and four grandsons, Brett Alexander Seawell, Ryan Thomas Seawell, Adam Scott Robinson and William Seawell Robinson.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 11:30 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dr. Walter Van Zandt Windsor officiating. Interment will follow in Bellwood Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.

The family will receive friends at 21 Westridge in Pine Bluff from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Monday, May 23.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. 3rd Avenue, Pine Bluff, AR 71601 or the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas Endowment, 701 S. Main Street, Pine Bluff, AR 71601.
