Dewey Michael "Mike" Ackerman
March 23, 1955 - August 29, 2005
Dewey "Mike" Ackerman, 50, a resident of Redfield, died Monday, August 29, 2005, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Hospital in Little Rock.
Born March 23, 1955, in Georgetown, South Carolina, he was a son of Dewey and Ann Owens Ackerman.
Mike was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff. He attended Dollarway High School. He was in the United States Marine Corps from 1975 to 1977. He married Catherine Duke on September 1, 1978, in Pine Bluff. He was an auto body repairman for Faulkner Collision Repair in Pine Bluff.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, and his step-father, William Bell.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Ackerman of Redfield; four daughters, Amanda, Sarra, MiCa, and Samantha Ackerman all of Redfield; his mother, Ann Bell of Pine Bluff; one brother, Richard Ackerman of Pine Bluff; six sisters, Faye Strom of Little Rock, Sharon Wingard of New Braunfels, Texas, Donna Cothran of Pine Bluff, Kimberly Threlkeld of New Braunfels, Texas, Jamie McCann of Pine Bluff, and Michelle Cooper of Andrew, South Carolina; one granddaughter, Mikayla Dawson of Redfield.
The funeral will be at 2:00 PM Friday, September 2, 2005, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Stephen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Redfield Cemetery. The visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, September 1, 2005, at Ralph Robinson & Son.
Zelma Peek Adams
August 8, 1925 - November 30, 2005
Zelma Peek Adams, 80, a resident of Pine Bluff passed away, Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born August 8, 1925, in Rison a daughter of the late Noah S. and Annie B. Peek.
She was reared and received her early education in the Rison and Woodlawn areas. She attended Woodlawn High School but transferred to Pine Bluff High School, where she graduated in 1943. After high school she attended Ouchita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. On August 9, 1945, in Pine Bluff, she married William Xelphin Adams. Mrs. Adams worked for Sears Department Store as the accounting supervisor until her retirement in 1976. Mrs. Adams was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Pine Bluff, serving faithfully in many capacities for over 50 years.
Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings. Her survivors include her husband of 60 years, William Xelphin Adams; a daughter Linda Adams and husband Carlee of North Little Rock; a son Gary Adams and wife Alice of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Cindy Adams of Brighton, Colorado, Melissa Carozza and husband Mike of North Little Rock, Chris Adams and wife Amanda of Dacula, Georgia, Army Captian Brian Adams, 3rd Infantry Division, Iraq, and Jeremy Adams and his wife Sarah of Little Rock; and five precious great-grandchildren, who brought tremendous joy to her life, Mallorie Grace and Cassidy Elizabeth Carozza of North Little Rock, Parker Xelphin and William Todd Adams of Dacula, Georgia, and David Stewart Adams of Little Rock; a sister, Dorothy Burke of Fordyce and a brother, Noah Peek, Jr. of England.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2005, at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home with Dr. David Moore officiating, with interment following at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 P.M. at Robinson's. The family asks that memorials take the form of contributions to Tele-Bible Sunday School Class, c/o Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 North Shackleford Road, Little Rock, AR, 72211, or the donor's favorite charity.
Bertha Mae Adcock
May 24, 1930 - March 12, 2006
Bertha Mae Adcock, 75, of North Little Rock, died March 12, 2006, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Mrs. Adcock was born Saturday, May 24, 1930, in the Hooker Community a daughter of the late Joe and Viola Fanny Haynes Abernathy.
She was reared in the Hooker Community and later moved to Pine Bluff where she began attending the Pine Bluff Schools and graduating from Pine Bluff High School.
Mrs. Adcock married Mr. Robert John Kent and he preceded her in death September 30, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a son, Scott and a sister Patricia Abernathy Stokes.
She was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Leslie Kent and David Lee Kent, both of North Little Rock; daughter, Melody Trimble also of North Little Rock; brother, George Thomas Abernathy of Orange, Texas; granddaughter, Shasta Nicole Smith of Little Rock; two grandsons, Dennis Scott Kent of Little Rock and Bryan Scott Kent of Lonsdale; two very special friends, Gean Hickey and Jerry Blair, both of North Little Rock.
Memorial services will be arranged at a later date.
Dr. Toby Warren Adair, Jr.
September 8, 1922 - July 11, 2006
Dr. Toby Warren Adair, Jr., age 83, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Hospice Home Care Inpatient Center in Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
Dr. Adair was born September 8, 1922, in Beaumont, Texas, a son of the late Toby Warren and Mildred Lee Muldrow Adair.
Dr. Adair was reared and received his education in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he graduated from Byrd High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Centenary College, a Master of Divinity, Master of Arts and a Master of Religous Education from Golden Gate Seminary, and a Doctor of Theology from International Seminary.
He was a member of South Side Baptist Church and the Confederate Air Force.
He was named in the 1995-1996 edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest and in editions one, two and three of Who's Who in Religion.
Dr. Adair was the founding pastor to South Reno Baptist Church in Reno, Nevada. He pastored three other churches including Forest Park Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. He also served as a volunteer Chaplain at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He retired from the ministry in 1992.
Dr. Adair served as President of the Pine Bluff Rotary Club and as District 6170 Governor for Rotary International, as Trustee and member of the Board of Directors for the Jefferson County Historical Museum, as Treasurer for CUSP, as President of the 
military Retired Officers Association and as Trustee for Kemper military Academy.
Dr. Adair was a flight instructor ar Grider Field from 1942 to 1944. He flew combat missions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He also attended the Naval War College. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1967, decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Ivareese Redden Adair, who he married May 8, 1943, in Pine Bluff; a daughter, Robin Adair-Marshall of Renton, Washington; a granddaughter, Cathy Sternod of Pine Bluff and four great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and caring friend to many.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 15, 2006, at 11:00 AM at South Side Baptist Church by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Dr. Mark Tolbert and Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Weldon Barner Abbott
February 23, 1903 - February 20, 2007
Weldon Barner Abbott, 103, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007, just three days prior to his 104th birthday, at Trinity Village Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
One of eleven children, he was born February 23, 1903 in Princeton, Arkansas, a son of John Samuel and Sarah Lenora Looney Abbott.
He graduated from the Fourth District Agricultural High School in Monticello in 1920 and attended Arkansas A&M in Monticello, where he became a Farm and Dairy manager in 1928.
Mr. Abbott was a laboratory technician with International Paper Company in Camden for several years. Then he served as director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office for Ouachita County. He accepted that same position in Jefferson County in 1949 and has lived in Pine Bluff ever since. Mr. Abbott retired in 1973.
Always an outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and bee-keeping. Late in life Mr. Abbott developed the hobby of carving birds, which he enjoyed giving to family and friends.
Mr. Abbott was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Men's Bible Class. He was also active in the Scottish Rite of Free Masonary of Little Rock, 32nd Degree, a Shriner at the Sahara Temple in Pine Bluff, member of Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge Number 69 F&AM, Pine Bluff Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Retired Federal Employees following 28 years of service with the U.S. Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Betty Strickland Taylor Abbott; two sons, Dr. W. S. Abbott and wife, Mary Ruth of Salt Lake City, Utah and H. Lavon Abbott and wife, Mary Ruth of Crossett, Arkansas; step-son, Howard P. Taylor and wife, Hayden of Sanford, North Carolina; step-daughter, Mary Ross Taylor of Wimberly, Texas; sister, Beth Merritt of Alexander, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special caregivers Linda Finley, Tomeka Freeman and Yvette Jenkins.
Services will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, February 23, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend W. Lee Kinney, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will follow at 3:30 P.M. at Pinewood Memorial Park in Crossett.

Mark Andrew Couch

Mark Andrew Couch, 32, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Couch was born March 6, 1975 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Mike and Gina Henson Couch.
He was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. Mr. Couch was currently a senior at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he was president of the Collegiate Farm Bureau.
Mr. Couch was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Homer Couch and maternal grandfather, Ralph Henson.
Survivors include parents, Mike & Gina Couch of Pine Bluff; brother, Scott Couch of Auburn, Alabama; paternal grandmother, Mildred Couch of Pine Bluff; and maternal grandmother, Bertha Henson of Pine Bluff.
Visitation will be Monday, April 23 from 5-7 PM at Ralph Robinson & Son.
Services will be held at Lakeside United Methodist Church, Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Jim Brooks and Reverend John Embrey officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery

Samuel Parks Luckie
November 4, 1920 - June 26, 2007
Samuel Parks Luckie, 86, of Reydell, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Luckie was born November 4, 1920, in Webb, Mississippi, a son of the late W. A. Luckie and the late Byrd Burnett Luckie.
He was reared and received his early education in Webb, Mississippi, graduating from Webb High School. He then attended Mississippi State College, where he graduated with a degree in Agriculture.
Mr. Luckie served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he achieved the status of 1st Lieutenant. He flew with the 385th Bombardment Group and with the 551st Squadron as lead Bombardier for over 25 missions in Europe and also flew food drops over Holland. He received several honors including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and three Bronze Stars.
After World War II, Mr. Luckie returned to Mississippi where he taught Veterans Classes at Benoit, Mississippi. There he met Juanita Davidson, and in December of 1947, they were married in Benoit, Mississippi.
He started farming in Mississippi in 1947 and then moved to Reydell, Arkansas in 1949, where he farmed until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of Reydell Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and the Church Treasurer for 37 years. He was a Sunday School and Training Union Teacher. He was also a member of Farelly Lake Levee Board, Southern Cotton Ginners Association, and Swan Lake Gin Company.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John B. Luckie, Robert "Bob" Luckie; three sisters, Frances L. Davis, Sarah L. Hancock, Louise L. Adkins; one son, Samuel Parks Luckie, Jr., and one granddaughter, Laurie Jane Schimmel.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juanita D. Luckie of Reydell, Arkansas; two daughters, Mary Ann DuMond and her husband, Ray of Reydell, Jane Lynn Yahoda and her husband, Jerry of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren, Jacob Schimmel and his wife, Holly of Maumelle, Nathan Schimmel and his wife, Kendy of Little Rock, David Yahoda and Audra Halpin both of Hot Springs, Joyce Burl of Albion, New York, Christina and Stacey DuMond both of DeWitt; and eight great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 28, 2007 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Robinson's in Pine Bluff.
Services will be held in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son, Friday, June 29, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Richard Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery
in Pine Bluff.

George Benjamin Spencer, Jr.
July 17, 1925 - September 30, 2007
George Benjamin Spencer, Jr., 82, formerly of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away in his home in Paducah, Kentucky, surrounded by loved ones on September 30, 2007. George was born in Minden, Louisiana, on July 17, 1925. He was the son of George B. Spencer and Thelma Lowe Spencer.
George attended grammar school in Batesville, Arkansas, middle school in Star City, Arkansas, and graduated as a member of the class of 1943 from Paris High School in Paris, Arkansas. Shortly after entering the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His service included overseas duty as a part of the Second Bomb Group in Italy.
After the war, George continued his studies at the University of Arkansas, graduating with a degree in Agriculture in 1949. He was a member of Alpha Zeta, an honorary agriculture fraternity. After farming for a number of years, he worked as Manager of Land and Right of Way for Arkansas Power and Light Company (now Entergy Arkansas). He retired after 27 years in that position.
George accumulated 28 years of military service and retired from the US Army Reserves Corps of Engineers with the rank of Major in 1975. He served as President of the Rotary Club of Pine Bluff and was a Paul Harris Fellow. George was an active member of the Methodist Church wherever he lived. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School at several churches for over 40 years. Most recently, he was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church in Paducah. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Paducah and the Paducah Ambassadors.
He served as Chairman of the Real Estate section of the Southeastern Electric Exchange, president of the Arkansas Society of Farm Managers and Real Estate Appraisers, International Director of the American Right of Way Association and President of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Right of Way Association. He served two terms on the Quorum Court of Jefferson County, Arkansas, and for several years on the Pine Bluff/ Jefferson County Library Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gwen; and by his first wife, Martha Nell "Mot" Jowers Spencer. He is survived by his second wife, Karlyn; a brother, Joe and wife Judy of Lebanon, Tennessee; and by his children, George Spencer III of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Mary Lou Chilcote and husband Fred of Little Rock, Arkansas, Matt Spencer and wife Jo of Little Rock; and his two stepdaughters, Jane Melrose and husband Jim, Barbara Higgins and husband Chip, all of Franklin, Tennessee. He leaves four grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and David Chilcote, and Madison and Kate Spencer, as well as six step-grandchildren, Anne Meriwether and husband Scott, Kenneth and James Melrose, and Christopher, Kevin, and Laura Higgins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2007, at Ralph Robinson & Son Chapel at 807 Cherry Street in Pine Bluff. Reverend Fred Arnold will officiate the service. The family will receive guests immediately following the service at the Pine Bluff Country Club. The family requests that memorials be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, 701 Broadway, Paducah, Kentucky 42001.
Joyce Annette McClain (Newton)
September 15, 1936 - September 30, 2007
Joyce A. McClain, 71, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Mrs. McClain was born September 15, 1936, in Jefferson County, to the late Bud and Vestal Dent Newton. She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff, where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1954.
Joyce A. Newton married Martin McClain on February 3, 1955, in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. McClain was a homemaker and a member of 28th Street Church of Christ.
Mrs. McClain will be remembered by her family for being a loving wife and mother. Her many friends will remember her for giving so much of herself to anyone who needed help.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Martin McClain; sons, Don McClain of Alexander, and Gary McClain of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Jana Hodges of Pine Bluff; a brother, Kenneth Newton of Mt.View, Arkansas; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Robinson’s.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 3, 2007, 10:00 AM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Mr. Clarence Fell officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery
