Hollis Lee Reed, Sr.
June 04, 1932 - February 19, 2002

Hollis Lee Reed, Sr., 69 of Pine Bluff died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at his home.
He was born June 4, 1932 in Pine Bluff to Lee Hollis and Lee Etta Case Reed. Mr. Reed was reared and educated in Pine Bluff where he graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1950.
He was a member of the Naval Reserves from 1948 to 1949. After graduating he joined the United States Navy and was stationed on the Destroyer USS O'Brien during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Reed married the former Gwendolyn "Dolores" Johnson on May 23, 1952 in Pine Bluff. He achieved an Associate Degree in Business from Draughan School of Business. After the war he worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a Historical Record Keeper and as a Draftsman. Mr. Reed established and was a charter member of the Pine Bluff Arsenal Credit Union. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Reed was a charter member of the Board of Directors for the Highway 15 Volunteer Fire Department, honorary member of the Fraternal Order of Police and past member of Jefferson County Mounted Patrol.
After leaving the Pine Bluff Arsenal he went to work for Bankers Life and Casualty Company in Pine Bluff and Fort Smith where he worked for 27 years. Mr. Reed was also employed for 20 years by Pyramid Life Insurance in Pine Bluff. He owned and operated H&R Automotive in Pine Bluff, an affiliate of Rhino Lining, Incorporated.
He was a member of the 40th and Hazel Street Church of Christ.
Mr. Reed is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cora Opal Appling.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gwendolyn "Dolores" Johnson Reed of Pine Bluff; son, Hollis Lee (Kirby) Reed, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters, Evelyn Dolores (James) Harrison of Saudi Arabia, Belinda Kay (Delbert) Lawson of Pine Bluff, Patricia Ann (Steve) Tole of Pine Bluff, Regina Lee (Ray) Staton of Pine Bluff, Syble Willene Livingston of Pine Bluff; sisters, Syble Hall of Pine Bluff, Willene Snyder of Hawthorne, California and a stepbrother, Charles Powers of Hot Springs; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday 2 to 4 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son. Funeral services are 10:00 AM, Monday, February 25, 2002 at 40th and Hazel Street Church of Christ by Robinson's with Joe Goodspeed and Raymond Glendinning officiating. Burial follows in Brown Cemetery.

James L. Murray
February 06, 1951 - February 26, 2002

James L. "Cooter" Murray, 51, of 2401 West 31st Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Murray was born February 6, 1951, in Pine Bluff, to the late Coy M. and Nora Lee Price Murray. He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff.
He served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic and machine gunner. He received several medals during his military service including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Mr. Murray was a retired military veteran. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign War.
Mr. Murray was survived by his wife, Ruth Apple Murray; four sisters, JoAnne Murray, J. B. Brown, Janice Murray, and Jeanette Haynes, all of Pine Bluff; one brother, Coy A. Murray of Pine Bluff; two sons, Christopher Murray of Hensley, Arkansas, and Steve Murray of Little Rock, Arkansas; and one granddaughter.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 P.M. at Robinson's.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2002, 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

Juanita Doty Davis
July 11, 1913 - February 28, 2002

Juanita Doty Davis, age 88, of Pine Bluff, passed away at Jefferson Regional Medical Center on Thursday, February 28, 2002.
Mrs. Davis was born on July 11, 1913, in North Little Rock, the daughter of William Edward and Dora Parchman Doty. She came to Pine Bluff as a young girl with her family and in 1928 moved to East St. Louis, Illinois. In 1931, Juanita moved to North Little Rock where she graduated from high school in 1933. In 1934, she returned to Pine Bluff where she married J. Ralph Davis on June 18, 1939. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1985. She served in the Women's Army Corps during WW II. Mrs. Davis and her husband owned the Davis - Graham Floor Covering. She also worked as a sales clerk for Kress, Grant's, J.C. Penney's and the Baim Department Stores. Juanita was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Union Chapter #40; Order of the Amaranth, Christina Court # 3, where she was a Past Grand Royal Matron.She was a retired member of the Pine Bluff Conasta Club.
Juanita is survived by one brother, William Chester (Barbara) Doty of Oklahoma City, OK; one nephew, William Chester Doty Jr, of Norman, OK and one niece, Marnette (W.R.) Glover of Pine Bluff.
Graveside services will be held on Monday afternoon, March 4, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Pine Bluff. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, Pine Bluff.

Vivian Iva Shackleford
December 08, 1905 - March 02, 2002

Vivian Iva Shackleford, age 96, of 6810 Hazel, Pine Bluff, passed away at the Davis Life Care Center, Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2002.
Vivian was born on December 8, 1905, a daughter of Charlie and Addie Wardlaw Hoover in Keo, Arkansas. She was reared in Pine Bluff and received her education in the Pine Bluff school system. Vivian married Herbert Shackleford on, July 4, 1925, in Pine Bluff. He preceded her in death in 1966. In 1934 she moved to Corpus Christi, TX where she operated several restaurants. She returned to the Pine Bluff area where she operated a restaurant in Sheridan. Mrs. Shackleford was a member of the Olive Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shackleford is survived by her daughter, Ernestene Sims of Houston, TX; a brother, Gene Hoover of Hot Springs, AR; one sister, Eunice Vassaur of West Plaines, MO; and one grandson, Dale Sims.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors, Pine Bluff. The visitation will be on Thursday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will be in the Lost Creek Cemetery, Sheridan.

Beulah Starner Lee
January 13, 1910 - March 10, 2002

Beulah Starner Lee, 92, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. She was born January 13, 1910, in Cherry Valley, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Augusta Schiffer Starner. She was reared in Cherry Valley and attended the Stroudsburg Schools.
Mrs. Lee moved to Philadelphia at age 16 and lived there until she moved to Houston, Texas in 1942 and lived there until 1948, when she moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri and in 1971, she moved to Pine Bluff.
While in Cape Girardeau, she was co-owner of the Cape Ace Hardware for twenty years, retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Lee was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Pine Bluff where she was Outreach leader and a former member of Baptist Women's Association. She was also a member of the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons).
She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Lee, whom she married January 1, 1933, and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Lee is survived by one daughter, Kathy Wadlington of Pine Bluff; one son, James P. Lee III of Huntsville, Alabama; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, 3/13/02, at 9:00 AM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with the Reverend Terry Eades officiating. The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening. The family will be at 6006 South Plum in Pine Bluff.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Southside Baptist Church, 23rd & Poplar Streets, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71603.

Evelyn M. Thackston
September 11, 1922 - March 19, 2002

Evelyn M. Thackston, 79, of Memphis, Tennessee died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis. She was born September 11, 1922 in Beaumont, Texas to Leroy Thomas and Lallie Murphy Thackston.
Mrs. Thackston was reared in Beaumont, Texas and moved to Pine Bluff where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School. She was a owner/operator of an antique store in Memphis. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Pine Bluff.
Survivors include a brother, Richard Thackston, of Russellville, Arkansas, and a friend, Francis Blanton, of Memphis, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Thomas and Lallie Murphy Thackston, and several brothers and sisters.
Private burial will be in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son.

Ernest Hagans, Jr.
October 13, 1923 - March 27, 2002

Ernest Hagans, Jr. of Panama City, Florida, formerly of Pine Bluff and Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
He served in the U.S. Army duringWW II..
He was retired from International Paper Company, and was a member of First Methodist Church in Panama City, Parker Masonic Lodge, the Sahara Shrine Temple, member and past Commander of the VFW, and a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille Cook Hagans, two children, Cathy H. Fakouri of Little Rock, William Ernest Hagans of Shreveport, Louisiana, one sister, Maudree Rogers of Destin, Florida, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Ralph Robinson and Son in Pine Bluff, from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M.Friday. They will receive friends in Panama City, Saturday, from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. at Wilson Funeral Home and then graveside services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, in Panama City, with Reverend David Warren officiating. Burial will be by Wilson Funeral Home of Panama City.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.

Wilber T. Norton, Jr.
August 25, 1930 - March 28, 2002

Wilber T. Norton, Jr., 71, of Hot Springs, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, March 28, at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. Born August 25, 1930, in Cleveland County, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Wilber T. (Babe) and Elizabeth Foster Norton.
Reared and educated in Cleveland County and Pine Bluff, he was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Arkansas A&M College (now UAM) in 1951.
After working in Little Rock and Monticello for ten years, he returned to Pine Bluff and established Norton Motor Company, a used car and Coachmen RV dealership which he owned and operated for thirty years. After the sale of his company and retirement in 1991, he moved to Hot Springs. He was a member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. A Mason, he was a member of Jacob Brump Lodge #730, F&AM, and Sahara Shrine Temple. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid square dancer.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Todd Davis Norton (July 2, 1962 - May 5, 1963).
His survivors include his wife Marilyn Camden Norton, to whom he was married June 16, 1951; two sons, W. Tim Norton, OD of Pine Bluff and Kevin F. "Kip" Norton of Arkadelphia; daughter-in-law, Kay Norton of Arkadelphia; daughter, Pam Norton Hyneman of Jonesboro; son-in-law, Hal Hyneman of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Jason and Kelley Beth Norton, Hunter and Camden Hyneman, and Katherine and Anna Claire Norton; sister, Louise Tipton of Greenville, TN; brother-in-law, LeRoy Tipton of Greenville; and one niece and one nephew.
Services will be held in the Chapel at Ralph Robinson and Son at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2 with Reverend Ben Bateman officiating. Private interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1 at Robinson's.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 6501 Hazel, Pine Bluff, AR 71603; Second Baptist Church, 600 Garland Street, Hot Springs, AR 71913; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Elmer Lee Austin
July 17, 1903 - March 30, 2002

Elmer Lee Austin, 98, of Pine Bluff died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Davis Life Care Center. He was born July 17, 1903 in Kedron, Arkansas (Cleveland County) to Will and Lucy Brown Austin.
Mr. Austin was reared and educated in Cleveland County where he attended Pleasant Ridge School. He married the former Ora Harden in 1920 in Rison.
Mr. Austin was self employed for 40 years, before retiring in 1960. He had moved to Pine Bluff in 1955. He was a member of First Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.
Mr. Austin later married the former Mary Reed Cash in 1962 in Rison.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Will and Lucy Brown Austin; wives, Ora Harden Austin who died in 1962 and Mary Reed Cash Austin who died in 1997; three sons, Hulon L. Austin, Reverend Maxie Austin, Calvin Austin; daughter, Gladys Wingard; half brothers, Ray Austin, Voy Austin, Narl Austin; sisters, Willie Rodgers, Emma Parker and a half sister, Pearl Coats, one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, William C. Austin of Buffalo, Missouri, Charles E. Austin of Pine Bluff; daughters, Virginia D. Davis of San Diego, California, Shirley Minton Harrison of Pine Bluff, Ruth Githens of Knoxville, Tennessee; half sister, Naioma Spillyards; twenty-one grandchildren; forty seven great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; eighteen step great-grandchildren.
The family will be located at 8205 Highway 63 South, Pine Bluff.
The family will receive friends Monday, 6 to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Services are 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 2, 2002, Chapel of Ralph Robinson's with Reverend Jim Holdiness and Reverend Charles Andrews officiating. Private burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Wanda Lea Boutin
February 04, 1927 - April 10, 2002

Wanda Lea Boutin, 75, of Pearland, Texas, formerly of Pine Bluff died Wednesday, at Krista St. John Hospital, in Nassau Bay, Texas.
She was born February 4, 1927 in Dover, Arkansas to William Carroll and Florene Lane Ward.
Mrs. Boutin was reared and received her early education in Polk County, where she attended Russellville Schools. She married Edmond E. Boutin Jr., April 11, 1967, in Folkston, Georgia. She worked as a cafeteria supervisor in Folkston for 18 years, and moved to Pine Bluff in 1984. She moved to Pearland in 2000. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors are her son, William Gregory McCormack of Pearland, Texas, a daughter, Deborah Yarbrough of Hinesville, Georgia, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, at Cypress Memorial Gardens, with Reverend Jimmy Watson officiating. Burial by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.
The family will be at the home of Shirley Kimball, at 10812 Hwy 63 South.
