Cora Augusta Burton
July 17, 2002 - August 14, 2002
Cora A. Burton, 85, a resident of Pine Bluff died Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Davis Life Care Center. Born July 17, 1917, in Pemiscott County Missouri, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Elizabeth Breckenridge Malone. She was reared and received her early education in Caruthersville, Mo. And graduated from Caruthersville High School in 1935. She married Charles E. Burton on February 13, 1936 in Caruthersville Mo.
Cora was the director of the Jefferson County Arthritis Foundation. She also worked as a secretary for Federal Compress, and a Hostess in the waiting room of the McFarland Eye Center. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, past member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was the president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cora was also a Red Cross volunteer and for 12 years she was co-ordinator of the Jefferson County Artheitis Foundation Door to Door Drive.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband; Charles E. Burton of Pine Bluff, two sons; Robert E. Burton of Pine Bluff and Terry A. Burton of Williamsburg Virginia, one daughter; Shelby J. Etheridge of Mobile Alabama, one sister; Ollie Sides of Steele, Mo., seven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 17, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Andy Smith officiating and under the direction of Ralph Robinson & Son. Interment will follow at Bellwood Cemetery. The vigil service will be Friday, August 16, 2002 at 6:30 PM in the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son. The family has requested that memorials be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Reverend Harold W. Ellis
November 12, 1942 - August 15, 2002
Reverend Harold W. Ellis, 59, of Belton, Texas, died at home Thursday, August 15, 2002. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Louise Hearne Ellis of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and the late George Ellis.
Harold began his prison work in 1981 with the Bill Glass Prison Ministry. His family moved to Belton in 1984. He founded the J.A.I.L. Ministry in Belton in 1985. A member of the National Sheriff's Association, he served on its Chaplains' Steering Committee. He also was a member of the Texas Jail Association, Belton Ministers Fellowship and coordinator of the Bell County Critical Incident Team (C.I.S.M.). He served as Chairman of the Texas Baptist Men's Criminal Justice Committee, 1991 to 1993; received the 1998 "Hope in Our Hearts" award from then Governor George Bush. The 1999 recipient of the Sheriff's Association of Texas Presidents Award was honored by Bell County naming October 23, 2001, as "Harold Ellis Day". Harold was most recently presented the National Sheriff's Association award of Chaplain of the Year in June of 2002.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Belton where he was a deacon and ordained as a minister.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Ritchson Ellis, whom he married on September 23, 1967, in Houston; son, Barton Ellis of Temple, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Steve Kimery of Plano, Texas; his mother; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Bill Fox of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Christina and Kylie Ellis.
After a private family graveside service at 11:00 AM Monday, August 19, 2002, there will be a celebration service at First Baptist Church of Belton at 2:00 PM.

Connie Lou Franke
March 31, 1931 - August 16, 2002
Connie Lou Franke, 71, of Pine Bluff died Friday at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton. She was born March, 31, 1931 in Pine Bluff to Horace and Loula Cook Duggan.
She was reared and educated in Pine Bluff where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School.
Mrs. Franke married Dean W. Franke, June 17, 1960 in Pine Bluff. She retired in 1971 from the Pine Bluff Arsenal. She was a loving wife and mother and homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Loula Cook Duggan.
Survivors include her husband, Dean W. Franke of Benton; sons, Patrick Franke of Benton, R. M. Moore of Valle Mines, Missouri, Dean Franke II of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughters, Vicky Banks of Lebanon, Tennessee, Debbie Farrell of St. Louis, Missouri; and ten grandchildren.
Visitation, 5 to 7 PM, Sunday, August 17, 2002 at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Services are 2:00 PM, Monday, August 19, 2002 at Northside Baptist Church in White Hall with Dr. Don Nobles officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pete C. Paschal
June 11, 1918 - August 17, 2002
Pete C. Paschal, 84, of Pine Bluff died Saturday, August 17, 2002 at Trinity Village. He was born June 11, 1918 in Pine Bluff to the late Paul and Katherine Chalakis Paschal.
He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff where he graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1936.
Mr. Paschal married Syble Gore on January 26, 1941 in Rison. He retired in 1981 as the owner of Paschal's Farmers Insurance Group.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Syble Gore Paschal, who died July 19, 1997.
Mr. Paschal was a member of First Baptist Church and a former trustee of Bay St. Church. He received several awards for his work as an Life and Auto Insurance salesman. Mr. Paschal also served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his brother, Chris J. (Nancy) Paschal of Pine Bluff; four sisters, Helen Soteros of Bedford, Texas, Ann Ryburn of Pine Bluff, Christine Papastavro of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Sophie (John) Economidis of Ringgold, Georgia; and several neices and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. The family will recieve friends Monday from 5 to 7 PM at Robinson's.

Desiderio D. Demecs, Ph.D.
November 08, 1923 - August 21, 2002
Dr. Desiderio D. Demecs, 78, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Dr. Demecs was born November 8, 1923, in Czechoslovakia. He was the son of the late Desiderio Demecs and Elizabeth Demecs.
Dr. Demecs attended college at the University of Bologna, Italy, graduating in 1955. He served a professor at the University of New York at Buffalo, and from 1962-1965 was head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1967 he began a distinguished teaching career at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in the fields of Humanities and Philosophy, retiring in 1994.
Dr. Demecs received many awards, including an AWARD OF EXCELLENCE in March, 2001, for Exhibiting Scholarship in each of the fourteen UAPB Student/Faculty Forums held in and prior to 2001. Dr. Demecs presented a paper entitled, "Literary Criticism and Literature of Central and Eastern European Countries in the Second Millennium" for the Fifteenth Annual Forum held at the University in March, 2002. In February, 2002, Dr. Demecs was honored by having his name placed on the Wall of Tolerance for those leading the way towards a more tolerant and just America as Founding Members of the National Campaign for Tolerance. He also received appreciation awards from both the Pine Bluff School District for his work
with Volunteers in Public Schools, and from St. Peter's School for volunteer hours.
Dr. Demecs is survived by one brother, Stefan Demecs, of Hungary, and a nephew, Tomas Demecs, also of Hungary.
Dr. Demecs was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff.
Graveside services for Dr. Demecs will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 24, 2002 at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery
in Pine Bluff by Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Andrew Smith officiating.
David Wayne Allred
April 07, 1948 - August 22, 2002
David W. Allred, age 54, died Thursday morning (August 22, 2002), as the result of an automobile accident.
David was born April 7, 1948, a son of the late Wayne and Evie Anderson Allred in Randall Community, Cleveland County. He was educated in Woodlawn School and graduated from Dollarway High School in 1966. He worked in construction prior to going to work for International Paper in 1968. He worked as a service operator in the control room. He enjoyed planting flowers and working in his yard at home.
Mr. Allred is survived by one son, Tony of Pine Bluff; three brothers, Richard (Linda) Allred, Jackie (Marjorie) Allred of Woodlawn, Arkansas and Charles (Carolyn) Allred of White Hall; five sisters, Sue McKinney of Pensacola, Florida, Ava Jenkinson of Houston, Texas, Corrine (Havis) Harrison of Woodlawn, Arkansas, Carolyn (Billy Joe) Mazanti and Wanda (Marvin) Taylor both of Pine Bluff; and one grandson, Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step mother, Madge Young Allred and one brother, Lewis Franklin Allred.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff. Visitation will be held on Friday evening 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Cleveland County.

Stephen Junior Esquibel
August 18, 1973 - August 26, 2002
Stephen Esquibel, age 29, of Pine Bluff, passed away early Monday morning at his home.
Stephen was born August 18, 1973, a son of Eugene and Frances Mosley Esquibel in Fresno, California. His family returned to the Pine Bluff area in 1975. Stephen was educated in the Altheimer School District and graduated from DeWitt High School. After school he joined the 
military and after his discharge in 1994, he returned to England where he farmed. He was employed by Quest and the Hunters Refuge in White Hall. Mr. Esquibel was married to Mary Smith.
Mr. Esquibel is survived by his wife, Mary of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Stephanie Esquibel and a step-daughter Caitlin Smith both of Pine Bluff; his parents, Eugene and Joyce Esquibel of Pine Bluff; his mother, Frances Mosley of Hot Springs; paternal grandparents, Eugene and Mary Esquibel of Altheimer, and maternal grandmother, Betty Mosley of Hot Springs; maternal grandmother, Mary Hudson of DeWitt; three brothers, Michael Esquibel and Terry Esquibel both of Pine Bluff, and Eric Esquibel of Hot Springs; three sisters, Vicky Hackworth of Pine Bluff, Glenda Esquibel of Mississippi and Brandy Lamb of Hot Springs; several uncles and aunts and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2002, at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry Street, with Brother Walter Burgess, of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Flat Bayou Cemetery
in Altheimer.

Claudia Ann Briley
February 19, 1939 - September 01, 2002
Ann Briley, 63, of Pine Bluff died Sunday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born February 19, 1939 in North Little Rock to George and Jewell Anna Wood Spurlin.
She was reared and attended school in North Little Rock before moving to Oakland California where she graduated from Oakland High School. She married James Briley on January 19, 1961 in Little Rock.
Mrs. Briley worked in the Trust Department and Special Service Department at Simmons First National Bank in Pine Bluff before retiring in 2000.
She was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as the First Grade Sunday School Teacher. She was also a leader in the AWANA program.
Mrs. Briley is preceded in death by parents, George and Jewell Anna Wood Spurlin.
Survivors include her husband, James Briley of Pine Bluff; sons, Brian Briley of Greenville, South Carolina, Graham Briley of Norman, Oklahoma, Reed Briley of Jessievile, Arkansas; daughter, Erin Koenig of Pine Bluff; sister, Barbara Vinson of North Little Rock; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday 6 to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home in Pine Bluff.
Services are 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at Watson Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend M. L. Faler officiating.
Bernice Maydelle Nelson
December 27, 1906 - October 22, 2001
Bernice Maydelle Nelson, 94, of Mena, died Monday October 22, 2001 at Mena Manor Nursing Home in Mena. Born December 27, 1906 in Lampassas, Texas, she was the daughter of the late U.S. Johnson and Mary Laeula Ketchum Johnson.
Mrs. Nelson attended Jeddo Schools in Jeddo, Texas through the ninth grade. She was married to Ned Elliot Nelson in 1925 and moved with him to Tamo, Arkansas. She lived there until 1969 when she moved to Pine Bluff. She moved to Mena in 1986.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, twin sons; one daughter, Betty Jean Hubbell; six brothers, Robert Johnson, Howard Johnson, Reuben Johnson, Travis Johnson, Archie Lee Johnson, and Gordon Johnson; six sisters, Maudie Lewis, Hattie Schobey, Ruby Johnson, Annie Edgerton, Ollie Rawlinson, and Hallie Aasay.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Arlene Mason of Mena and Mary Lillian Webb of Argyle, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services are 2:00 PM Thursday,October 25, 2001 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Elmer Byerly officiating. Burial will be in Nicholson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until service time at Robinsons.

Joe Curtis Colclasure
April 10, 1916 - October 26, 2001
Joe Curtis Colclasure, 85, of Sherrill, died Friday, October 26, 2001. He was a member of Sherrill United Methodist Church.
He was born in Fairview (Lonoke County), Arkansas, on April 10, 1916 to Martha Barnes and Andrew Jackson Colclasure. After the premature death of his parents, he was raised by his sister, Lucy Barger, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where he participated in football and basketball.
He returned to Arkansas and married Wilsie Mae Barrett of Sherrill, September 15, 1940.
He spent several years buying and selling furs ( a vocation he loved). Later he worked in farming, insurance and general merchandise.
The following 43 years he worked for Mississippi River Fuel Transmission Corporation, progressing to station manager, then to personnel/public relations.
He was active in his community serving as mayor of Sherrill for five years, a board chairman of the Sherrill United Methodist Church for ten years, and a past president of Altheimer Lions Club. He was a 32nd degree master mason and active in the Shrine Temple.
He enjoyed crappie fishing, quail, duck and squirrel hunting. He was an avid Razorback fan, both football and basketball. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always supportive, patient, loving, never missing an opportunity to bring out a smile from a friend or loved one. His quick smile and jovial demeanor will always be treasured by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Jesse Jones, Clyde Long, and Lucy Barger, his brothers, Ralph, A.J. and Rolf.
Survivors include his wife, sons, Ray Colclasure of Pine Bluff, Joe Colclasure of Little Rock, four grandchildren, Jill, Jane, Chris, and Patrick Colclasure and one great-grandson, Miles Slarks.
Funeral services will be held at Sherrill United Methodist Church, Monday, October 29, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Bellwood Annex, Pine Bluff, Arkansas under the direction of Ralph Robinson and Son.
There will be no formal visitation.
