Helon Cloud White
April 06, 1907 - October 18, 2002

Helon C. White, age 95, of Pine Bluff, passed away early Friday morning at her home.
Helon was born April 6, 1907, the daughter of the late Jason R. and Fannie Manning Cloud in Malvern, Arkansas. She was reared and educated in El Dorado and Galloway Womens College at Searcy. She married U. Vance White in 1931 at the First Methodist Church in Ozark, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1974. They lived in Cove, Arkansas where Mr. White was the Superintendent of Schools. They then moved to Texas, Washington and Oregon before returning to El Dorado, Arkansas. They moved to Pine Bluff in 1938, where they owned White Furniture.
Mrs. White was a member and Past President of the Garden Lover's Club and the Pine Bluff Council of Garden Clubs; a Past Recording Secretary of the Arkansas State Federation of Garden Clubs, and a Charter Member of the Arkansas Accredited Flower Show Judges Council. She also served for several years on the Executive and Rotating Board of the Young Womens Christian Association.
She was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Womens Group and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. For twenty-five years she was one of the teachers in the Lakeside Kindergarden Sunday School Department. Mrs. White had served the Pine Bluff District WSCS as Treasurer, Literature and Publications Chairman, and on the Rotating Nominating Committee.
There are no immediate survivors. Her immediate caregiver was Mrs. Girtha Adway.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, at 2:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6707 Dollarway Road, Pine Bluff. The Reverend George Williams, Pastor of Lakeside United Methodist Church will officiate.

David Kearney Gunti
August 17, 1942 - November 08, 2002

David Kearney Gunti, 60, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born August 17, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Frederick Walter and Mattie Maude Lovelady Gunti. He received his early education at the Annunciation Academy in Pine Bluff and was a 1960 graduate of Pine Bluff High School. He attended Christian Brothers College in Memphis in 1961. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he earned a bachelor of arts degree and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
He attended the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville where he was editor of the Arkansas Law Review, earning his LLD degree there in 1968.
Returning to Pine Bluff, he began his law practice in 1969. He was a partner in the law firm of Baim, Gunti, Mouser, Robinson, and Havner. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Arkansas Bar Association, and Jefferson County Bar Association, serving as president of the Jefferson County Bar Association in 1985. In 1995, he was honored as Attorney of the Year by VOCALS (Volunteers' Organization for Central Arkansas Legal Services).
Mr. Gunti was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
His survivors include his wife of 31 years, Marie Hurst Gunti; daughters, Susan Gunti McGeorge, MD, and son-in-law Brian McGeorge of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Ann Ellen Gunti of Pine Bluff; brother, the Reverend Frederick Walter Gunti, Jr., of Mobile, Alabama; and grandson. Miles Wallace McGeorge.
A Vigil Service will be held in the Ralph Robinson & Son Chapel Sunday, November 10, at 7:00 PM.
Mr. Gunti's funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, November 11, at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Frederick Gunti and the Reverend Andrew Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 412 West 6th Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601.

Opal Janette Detore
December 06, 1934 - October 31, 2001

O. Janette Detore, 66, of 1001 West 41st, Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Detore was born December 6, 1934 in Bastrop, Louisiana, to the late Percy Rogers and Opal Anderson Rogers.
Mrs. Detore was reared and educated in Bastrop, Louisiana, where she graduated from Bastrop High School. She married Camillo Detore on December 15, 1953 in Monroe, Louisiana. They moved to Pine Bluff in 1958.
A child-care provider for more than 20 years, she owned and operated a daycare that she had in her home, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 47 years, Camillo J. Detore, one son, Gregg Detore of Pine Bluff, two daughters, Jan Patterson of Pine Bluff, Rosemary Detore of Fayetteville, Arkansas, three grandchildren, one brother, Percy Rogers of Bastrop, Louisiana, one sister, Jeannie Plummer of Bastrop, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents. (see above)
Services will be Saturday, November 3, 2001, at 10:00 A.M., St. Joseph Catholic Church, interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. A vigil will be held Friday, November 2, 2001, at 7:00 P.M. at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
The family will be located at the home of Jan Patterson, 3805 Mulberry, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

David Martin Mouser
May 02, 1980 - December 28, 2002

David Martin Mouser, 22, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, December 28, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was born May 2, 1980, in Pine Bluff. He was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia. Martin graduated from Jefferson County High School in Charles Town, West Virginia, in 1998.
Following his high school graduation he joined the United States Navy in June of 1998. He received his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago, Illinois. He was transferred to duty in the quartermaster corps on the destroyer USS Mahan, based in Norfolk, Virginia. Aboard the Mahan, he served for four years, including a tour of duty in the Mediterranean Ocean. He was honorably discharged in June of 2002. Returning to Pine Bluff, he was a legal assistant with the law firm of Baim, Gunti, Mouser, Robinson, & Havner. He was currently attending Southeast Arkansas College in Pine Bluff.
He was a member of Engle United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. As a teenager, he was a participant in Chrysalis and, as a young adult, in Emmaus, the spiritual renewal program.
His survivors include his parents, Wm. Kirby and Rosalind M. Mouser of Pine Bluff, Reverend Melissa P. and Reverend Royce Simpson of Richwood, West Virginia; brothers, Robert Austin Mouser of Summersville, West Virginia, William R. Simpson of Benton, Arkansas, George Arthur Pike Simpson of Richwood, and Owen Parker Mouser of Pine Bluff; sister, Becky Simpson LaBee of Benton; grandparents, Etoyle K. Mouser of Pine Bluff, Sissie Atkinson McClanahan of Pine Bluff, and Rosalind O. McClanahan of Bessemer, Alabama. He was preceded in death by grandparents, William A. Mouser, Robert and Frances Pike, Sue Simpson, and Dr. John H. McClanahan.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff with Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Memorials are requested to take the form of memorials to the Harpers Ferry Public Library, Drawer D, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425 or to First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.

Johnny Carlton Bass, II
August 21, 1970 - October 31, 2001

Johnny Carlton Bass II, 31, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday at his home. Mr. Bass was born August 21, 1970 in Pine Bluff to Johnny Carlton and Patsy Chambliss Bass.
He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff where he graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1988. Mr. Bass also graduated from Southeast Arkansas College in 1992 where he earned an Associate Degree in Advanced Accounting.
He had worked for Simmons Bank and Sears Roebuck and Company. He was currently employed by Three Rivers Distributing.
Mr. Bass attended First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. He was an avid football fan and a member of the Arkansas Razorback Booster Club.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by a sister; Janet Bass.
Survivors include his parents; Johnny Carlton and Patsy Chambliss Bass of Pine Bluff, a brother; Jason Bass of Maumelle, a sister and brother-in-law; Pamela and Scott Givens of White Hall, a niece; Laura Cearley and a nephew; Carl Cearley.
The family will receive friends Friday 5 to 7 PM at Robinson's. Graveside service will be 1:30 PM, Saturday, November 3, 2001 in Salem Cemetery at Bearden, Arkansas with Reverend Gordon Topping officiating.

C. Patricia Belt
August 04, 1920 - November 04, 2001

C. Patricia Belt, 81, of 9224 Trulock Bay Road, Sherrill, Arkansas, died Sunday, November 4, 2001, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born August 4, 1920 in Turon, Kansas, daughter of the late Paul E. Gray and Gladys Johnson Gray.
Mrs. Belt was reared and educated in Langdon, Kansas, where she was a 1937 graduate of Langdon High School. She attended college in Hutchinson, Kansas.
She married Glenn Edward Belt on August 20, 1939, in Hutchinson, Kansas. They spent 40 years on the family farm near Pretty Prairie, Kansas. They retired in 1978 and moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, where they resided until they moved to Pine Bluff in 1993 to be near their children.
Mrs. Belt was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star of the Kingman, Kansas Chapter for 53 years. She was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Belt won a first place gold medal in the 2001 Senior Olympics that was held in Beebe.
Her survivors include one son, Farrel Edward Belt of Preston, Kansas, one daughter, Carol Ann Hayes of Sherrill, Arkansas, eight grandchildren, one step-grandson, eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Glenn Belt who died March 7, 2001, one brother, Paul D. Gray of Marino Valley, California.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, at Robinson's.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, November 7, 2001, at 3:30 P.M., Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverends Michael Evans and Mary Welch officiating. After the funeral service, the body will be cremated and will be interred beside her husband at Lone Star Cemetery in Pretty Prairie, Kansas at a later date.
The family will be at the home of Ricky Hayes, 9224 Trulock Bay Estates in Sherrill, Arkansas.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Jefferson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2233, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71613, or Wesley United Methodist Church, 3010 South Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71603.

J. A. ( Toney ) Calabretta, II
June 02, 1948 - November 05, 2001

J. A. "Toney" Calabretta II, age 53, of Pine Bluff, died at his home November 5. 2001. Mr. Calabretta was born June 2, 1948, in Pine Bluff, the son of the late Joseph A. and Lillie Mae Thomas Calabretta. Mr. Calabretta was reared and received his education in and was a lifelong resident of Pine Bluff. He was a 1966 graduate of Pine Bluff High School. He began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone upon graduation and worked thirty-five years before retiring in March of this year.
He was married to the former Sharon Day on October 21, 1966, and she survives him along with one son, Joseph Anthony Calabretta of White Hall; one daughter, Rachel Crook of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Marcia Andrews of Rison and Jena Jones of Pine Bluff; and two granddaughters.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 6 to 8 P M Thursday evening. Graveside services will be Friday, November 9, 2001, at 10:00 A M at Graceland Cemetery with the Reverend Dean Clausing officiating.

Oscar Norris Culpepper, Sr.
March 07, 1918 - November 06, 2001

Oscar Norris Culpepper, Sr., age 83, of Little Rock, formerly of Pine Bluff, died at St Vincents Infirmary in Little Rock Tuesday. Mr. Culpepper was born March 7, 1918, in the Oak Grove Community near Sheridan in Grant County. He was the son of the late Conley Capus and Annie Atchley Culpepper.
He was reared and received his early education in the Oak Grove Community and at age 11, he and his family moved to Pine Bluff, where he began attending the Pine Bluff schools.
Mr. Culpepper worked for forty-five years at the Standard Brake and Shoe Foundry retiring as a Molder. Mr. Culpepper was of the Baptist faith.
He was married to the former Ruby Doris Shirkey on August 19, 1972, and she survives him along with three sons; J. C. Culpepper and wife, Sue, of Lono, Arkansas, Norris Culpepper and wife, Norma and Denver Culpepper and wife, Darlene, all of Oak Grove Community near Sheridan; one daughter, Tammy Laney and husband, David of Little Rock; one sister, JoyceWest and husband, Burl of Waxahachie, Texas and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be graveside at Center Grove Cemetery in Grant County, Thursday, at 3:00 P M.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to The Heifer Project International, P. O. Box 8058, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72203.

William R. Doherty
December 20, 1923 - November 08, 2001

William R. Doherty, 77 of Star City formerly of Pine Bluff died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare in Star City. He was born December 20, 1923 in Hazel, Kentucky to the late N. R. and Pocahontas Guthrie Doherty.
He was reared and received his education in Pine Bluff. He was a 1942 graduate of Pine Bluff High School.
He served in the US Army during WWII. He was employed by Cotton Belt Railroad for 43 years before retiring.
The family will receive friends at Robinsons from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include his, wife Janet Nobles Doherty of Star City, Arkansas; 2 daugthers, Cheryl Clark of Dallas, Texas, Brenda Roesler of Hernando, Florida; 2 brothers, Tommy Doherty of Pine Bluff, Bobby Doherty of Florida; and 2 grandsons, Jeffrey Allen Howey of Hensley, Arkansas and Matthew Radar of Florida.
Graveside services will be Monday, November 12, 2001 at 2:00PM in Drake Cemetery (Lincoln County) by Ralph Robinson and Son. Reverend Frank Matchett will officiate.

Ferne E. Noland
December 31, 1911 - November 08, 2001

Ferne E. Noland, 89 of Pine Bluff died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at her home. She was born December 31, 1911 in Burnside, Iowa to the late William and Lellah Gaddy Maddox.
She was reared and received her education in Iowa.
She was a member of First Christian Church where she served as Sunday and Bible School Teacher, Bible School Director, Chair of World Outreach and Worship, President of CWF. She played in the Handbells for a time and sang in the choir for over 40 years. She was an Elder who was dubbed a "Prayer Warrior".
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Noland in 1987.
The family will receive friends at Robinsons from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include, son, Donald Wester of Fosston, Minnesota; 4 daughters, Carolyn Galloway of Sheridan, Wyoming, Collette McWilliams of Gillette, Wyoming, Claudia Norton of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Christie Greenich of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; stepson, Robert F. Noland of Ridgecrest, California; stepdaughter, Patricia Chitty of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sister, Bertha Byram of Mira Loma, California; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 12 at 1:00 PM in First Christian Church by Ralph Robinson and Son. Reverend Delores Stroud will officiate.
