Ray Thomas Wooten
March 27, 1919 - June 23, 2009

Ray Thomas Wooten, 90, died June 23, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 27, 1919 at Pine Bluff, the son of Sellus and Georgia Wooten.

He received his early education at Dollarway Schools and graduated from Dollarway High School.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) as a young man. After retiring from the CCC, he met Mary Gertrude Shandy and they would spend the next 68 years together. They were married December 13, 1941 at her parent's home in White Hall.

In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps where he earned the rank of Sergeant. After attending the Aeronautical University at Chicago, he served overseas during WWII with the 71st Liaison Squadron in China, India and Burma. During the war, he flew small planes evacuating the wounded. After his discharge in 1945, he and his brothers formed Wooten Construction and built houses until he went to work at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He retired from the Arsenal in 1980 with 30 years of government service.

He lived his faith by example. He was a member of Dollarway Presbyterian Church for many years, and worked tirelessly with the youth and Sunday School influencing many youth of the area. He served as a deacon, elder and treasurer of the church and many times as lay preacher when the pastor was absent. He was currently a member of Central Presbyterian Church where he had served as elder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles, Robert, Jack, and Doyle; three sisters, Louise Kelley, Hortense Travis and Helen Shandy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Mary Rester and husband Billy of Pine Bluff; his son, Cecil (Tommy) Wooten and wife Shirley of White Hall; grandchildren, Marie Murdock of Pine Bluff, Tim Rester of Haskell, Melissa Joslin of Jefferson, Michelle Mangialardi of St. Cloud, Florida, Clay Wooten of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Jeana Garrett of Sherwood; fourteen great grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Romine of Little Rock and JoAnn Hulse of White Hall.

Visitation will be Thursday, 5 to 8 PM at Robinson's.

Services will be 10 AM, Friday, June 26, 2009, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Dr. Dan Festa officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials should be made to Central Presbyterian Church 6300 Trinity Drive, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

The family will be at 4201 Wooten Drive, in White Hall.

Flo Lowe (Smith)
October 9, 1937 - June 22, 2009

Flo Lowe, 71, of Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009, at Doctor's Hospital in Little Rock.

Mrs. Lowe was born October 9, 1937, in Jones, Louisiana, a daughter of the late James Owen and Ollie Walker Smith. She was reared and received her education in Pangburn, where she graduated from Pangburn High School.

Flo Smith married Larone Lowe, Jr. on August 2, 1963 in Ellison, Arkansas.

Mrs. Lowe was a homemaker most of her life. She had done volunteer work for the Women's Unit in Pine Bluff for 15 years before being hired as a full-time chaplain in 2004.

Mrs. Lowe was a member of Christian Life Church.

She is survived by her husband, Larone Lowe, Jr. of Pine Bluff; two sons, Larone Lowe, III of Conway, and Whitaker Lowe of Marshall; a daughter, Salina Scorsone of Edmond, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; four brothers, David Smith, Don Smith, Pete Smith, all of Pine Bluff, and Fred Smith of Malvern; and a sister, Faye McGarity of the Hardin Community.

Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Nadine Mason and an infant brother.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Christian Life Church.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Christian Life Church with Reverend Bill Kiggins officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

Milton Britt Manues
January 17, 1960 - June 23, 2009

Milton Britt Manues was the eighth child born to Robert and Sylvia (Sloster) Manues on January 17, 1960 at DeWitt, Arkansas .

Milton was a loving and playful child. He could always find a good deal and talk to anyone. Milton attended DeWitt schools. He joined the National Guard and served his country for several years. Milton enjoyed his brothers and sisters and helped take care of them.

He moved to Vici, Oklahoma and worked in the heating and air conditioning field. He spent time in Brewster, Washington then moved back to Oklahoma . He married Marilyn Kay Bell on April 16, 2004 and was a friend to her son Jeremy.

Milton and Kay moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas and enjoyed their time together. He was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the First Born while living there. After failing health, they returned to Oklahoma, living in Oklahoma City until his death on June 23, 2009 at his home.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Sylvia Manues, sister, Linda Roach, and brothers: Albert Carl, Bobbie Joe and Rodney.

Those left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Kay of the home, son Jeremy, sister Charlene and her husband Glen Davenport of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; brothers: Donald of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Edward Lee and his wife Rosella of Lexington, Oklahoma; and Billy Ray of Dumas, Oklahoma; Rusty Evans, who was like a son; and many nieces and nephews. Milton was friend to many and loved his cat Cinnamon. He will be missed by many.

The family will receive friends Friday, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Robinson's.

A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Fitzhugh Cemetery with Reverend David Watkins officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home.

Lindie Lauren Taylor
June 24, 2009 - June 24, 2009

Lindie Lauren Taylor of Tillar, Arkansas was born and died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

She was the daughter of William Aaron Taylor and Christy Renee Stom Taylor.

Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Morgan Dawn Taylor and Sarah Taylor of Tillar; brother, John Taylor of Tillar; paternal grandparents, Judy and Wendell Taylor of Grady; maternal grandparents, Pete and Marcie Stom of Pine Bluff; paternal uncle and aunt, Scott and Felicia Taylor of Glendale; maternal aunt and uncle, Dawn and Randy Jacks of Woodlawn; cousins, Cobie Brumley, Megan Jacks, Randa Jacks and Gracie Taylor; and great-grandparents, Vernon and Marcella Cox of Pangburn, Arkansas.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Lee Cemetery with Reverend Dub Byers officiating. Arangements by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors

Lois Shinall Bailey (Traylor)
November 30, 1920 - March 19, 2010

Lois Traylor Shinall Bailey, 89, of Jacksonville, formerly of Pine Bluff, went to be with her Lord, Friday. March 19, 2010 at 2:37 PM.

Born November 30, 1920, in Brinkley, she was the daughter of the late Alex Patton and Lillie Brickerstaff Traylor. She was reared and received her education in Monroe County, attending Brinkley High School. After moving to Pine Bluff in 1939, she also attended Fuhr School of Business.

Lois worked as a receptionist for Dr. Charles Davis, a dermatologist, for ten years, retiring in 1974. She also worked for Collier Drug Store and Central Pharmacy. She was a Sales Associate at Cohen's Department Store for several years. In 1994, she became a greeter at Wal-mart in Pine Bluff, after moving with her daughter, she became a greeter at Wal-mart in Jacksonville.

She was an active member of Carr Memorial United Methodist Church, where she worked as Church Secretary, retiring at the age of 87. She was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class and also taught Sunday School. She was Past President, and received a special recognition award for her work with the United Methodist Women.

When her children were young, Lois was very active with them and their activities, serving as President and Secretary of First Ward School PTA and was appointed Secretary of the Central Council PTA. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Doyle Gilbert Shinall; her second husband, Tuney Bailey, Sr.; and a son Gary Gilbert Shinall.

Lois is survived by two sons, Jerold Brent Shinall and wife Mary Frances, of Rogers, Arkansas and Lance Traylor Shinall and wife, Carol Fuhrman Shinall, of Allen, Texas; one daughter Lana Lois Shinall of Sherwood, Arkansas and one daughter-in-law, Barbara Fowler Shinall, of Spring, Texas. She was loved by her eleven grandchildren, B.J. Fratesi, Gilbert Daniel Fratesi, Dusti Gutierrey and husband Juan, Brent Shinall, Jr., Pat Shinall and wife Jan Shinall, Brian Shinall and wife Lauren, Alex Shinall and wife Sandra, Karla Marile and husband James, Lauren Shinall, Lindsey Shinall, and Lesley Shinall; and two step grandchildren Garid Smith and Matt Smith; and ten great-grandchildren, Danny and Vinnie Fratesi, Milano and Antonio Gutierrey, Cole and Lindey Shinall, Brynn and Brinkley Shinall, Max and Sarah Marile

Graveside services will be held 5:00 PM, Monday, March 22, 2010 at Graceland Cemetery with Reverend Mike Wilkie officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. The Family will receive friends 3:00 PM Monday at Robinson's until service time.

Mary Alice Brassell (Eubanks)
September 4, 1923 - March 21, 2010

Mary Alice Eubanks Brassell, 86, of Pine Bluff died Sunday, March 21, 2010. Born in Pine Bluff, September 4, 1923, a daughter of Loys Clifton and Vera Estelle McCullough Eubanks, she received her early education in Pine Bluff and graduated from Pine Bluff High School.
The wife of the late Jefferson County Sheriff W. C. "Dub" Brassell for fifty-nine years, she worked in several Pine Bluff retail stores during her working life including Lottie's, The Vogue Shop, Cradles and Cribs, and Finishing Touches. She was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in WMA and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a longtime member of ABWA and the Arkansas Sheriff's Wives Association where she served in many offices.
Survivors include her daughter, Kaye Miller of Pine Bluff; Stephen Stovall of Pine Bluff; granddaughter, Margo M. Turner of Hot Springs; nieces and a nephew.
Services are Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Jim Swinea officiating and interment in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Robinson's.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Meadowview Baptist Church, 7900 Middle Warren Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

Ada "Chick" Quimby (Hildesheim)
January 17, 1917 - March 21, 2010

Ada "Chick" Quimby, 93, of White Hall, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Quimby was born January 17, 1917, in White Hall, a daughter of the late William Daniel and Lillie Ann Bridges Hildesheim.

Mrs. Quimby was reared and educated in White Hall. She was a lifelong resident of the White Hall and Pine Bluff area.

She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church.

Mrs. Quimby was preceded in death in 1974, by her husband, James L. Quimby, whom she married December 31, 1942, in Pine Bluff; three brothers, Calvin Hildesheim, Clifton Hildesheim and William L. "Bud" Hildersheim; three sisters, Minnie Herring, Nellie Hosman and Marie Hosman.

She is survived by one brother, Fred Hildesheim of Mobile, Alabama.

Funeral services will be graveside in the White Hall United Methodist Church Cemtery at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 24, 2010, by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Allen Elkins officiating.

The family will receive friends at Robinson's Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Central Baptist Church, 6107 Dollarway Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71602.

Gregory Lloyd Garner
December 19, 1956 - March 22, 2010

Gregory Lloyd Garner, 53, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, March 22, 2010 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 19, 1956 in Pine Bluff, son of Lloyd E. Garner and Jean Evans Garner Pharr.

Mr. Garner was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1975. He attended Pines Vo-Tech, where he studied architectural drafting.

He has been an active and participating member of South Side Baptist Church. Mr. Garner served as a bus driver for the church, taking Adult 6 Sunday school class members to social events, mission teams to and from the airport and making sure the bus had plenty of gas. He also worked with the Audio-Visual Team for about 5 years, before recently becoming chairman and served as co-leader of the prayer ministry.

Mr. Garner had a passion for the children of South Side and the Boys and Girls Club. He volunteered numerous hours for World Changers and Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County, including teaching Bible study to second and third graders on Mondays. He worked with the kindergarten through 6th grade children on the Wednesday night Good News Club at South Side for the past three years, and served on the South Side Children's Team.

He was an active member of the Hickory Grove Hunting Club and one of the first members of the South Arkansas Kingdom Riders motorcycle club.

Mr. Garner worked for the City of Pine Bluff in the city planner's office then as a code enforcement officer for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2008.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Jean and Charles Pharr of Cabot; and two sisters, Karen Garner (Russ) Frey and their sons, Kevin and Brian, of Cabot and Linda (Ken) Garner-Bunch and their son, Garner Trimble, of North Little Rock.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2010 at South Side Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Gillham officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson's.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County, PO Box 6027, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71611 or South Side Baptist Church Technology and Audio-Visual Committee, 2309 Poplar Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71601.

Christy Michelle Ellis (Johnson)
January 9, 1978 - March 23, 2010

Christy Michelle Ellis, 32, of Bryant, Arkansas, and her daughter, Lindsey Kay Ellis, 6, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in Beaumont, Mississippi.

Christy was born January 9, 1978, in Pine Bluff to Dewey Daniel and Beverly Kay Byrd Johnson.

She was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, where she graduated from Watson Chapel High School.

Christy was a loving daughter, mother and sister.

She worked for Bankers Life and Causality in Little Rock, where she was a branch office administrator.

Survivors include her parents, Dewey Daniel and Beverly Kay Byrd Johnson of Pine Bluff; a brother, Danny Johnson (Elizabeth) of Sheridan and a grandfather, Reuben Johnson of Pine Bluff; nieces, Mary Daniel and Lily Elizabeth Johnson.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Bertie Johnson, Imogene and Sonny Byrd.

Lindsey was born August 10, 2003, in Benton to Ricky and Christy Michelle Johnson Ellis.

She was in the first grade at Bryant.

Survivors include her father, Ricky Ellis of Cabot; grandparents, Dewey Daniel and Beverly Kay Byrd Johnson, Carol and Buddy Ellis of Scott; great-grandfather, Reuben Johnson; uncle and aunt, Danny and Elizabeth Johnson; cousins, Mary Daniel and Lily Elizabeth Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Bertie Johnson, Imogene and Sonny Byrd.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM, Friday at Robinson's.

Services will be 10 AM, Saturday, March 27, 2010, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Mr. Mike Hogan officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
