Marylyn Kelley Maryovich Hood McCullough
July 17, 1941 - August 19, 2011
Marylyn Kelley Maryovich Hood McCullough, 70, of Pine Bluff, left her earthly garments and body to take on her celestial transformation and join her Lord & Savior in Heaven on August 19, 2011 at her home.
In her own words, Marylyn wrote:
I lost, or won, my long Battle with Melanoma Cancer when my Lord finally called me home.
I was born on a hot July 17, 1941 to Preston and June (Russell) Kelley in Sheridan, Arkansas.
I was preceded in death by my parents, both sets of grandparents, Amzi & Esther Russell and John and Addie Kelley, two husbands, and other family members.
I leave behind my husband, Newt McCullough, two children, Lisa Maryovich of Jefferson and Stephen Hood (Amanda) of Monticello; my grandchildren, Joshua Parker (Kim) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dakota Parker, of Jefferson, Erica Hood of Bryant and Aaron Hood of Monticello; two great-grand's, Jazmyn and Brady Parker, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two step-children, Kirk McCullough (Patsy) and Kim Brainard of Pine Bluff; four step-grandchildren, all of Pine Bluff; and my constant and faithful little "Precious" our Maltese.
I held many jobs during the wonderful life God allowed me to live. Being a substitute teacher in the White Hall Schools for many years was the last job, and what a blessing to be part of so many young people's lives. The most important service of all, was my God called ministry as a volunteer at UAMS Medical Center visiting cancer patients like myself. It was only by the Grace of God I was allowed to do this wonderful, rewarding service. I saw each person as if I were looking at myself and realizing how blessed I was to be the visitor and not the patient.
My thanks go to all the nurses and staff on H7 at UAMS for being so kind and helpful each week I volunteered. They are true guardian angels. I also want to thank my dear Melanoma surgeon, Dr. Kent Westbrook, and his wonderful nursing staff, for without his expertise and the hand of God to guide him, I would not have lived this long. How blessed I have been in this life. My thanks also to my Oncologist, Dr. Laura Hutchins and Dr. Kenneth Gardner at CARTI.
In lieu of flowers, I would appreciate contributions to UAMS Medical Center for Melanoma Research or the Pulaski County Humane Society on Colonel Glen Rd. in Little Rock.
A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2011 at Oakland Cemetery
in Monticello with Reverend Mr. Noel F. "Bud" Bryant and Reverend Robin Hood officiating by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors (online register: www.ralphrobinsonandson.com).
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson's. A Vigil service will follow the visitation at Robinson's.
Mary Webb (Reed)
January 11, 1933 - August 22, 2011
Mary Reed Webb, 78, a resident of White Hall, died Monday, August 22, 2011, at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born January 11, 1933, in New Edinburgh, she was a daughter of John R. and Birdie A. James Reed.
Mary Reed married Robert L. Webb on December 30, 1951, in Pine Bluff. She worked for Sears for eight years. She then went to work as an officer for Pine Bluff National Bank for thirteen years. Her next position was with Simmons First National Bank, where she worked for eight years. Her final position was for Mercantile Bank in North Little Rock, where she worked five years before retiring. Mrs. Webb was a member of Hardin Baptist Church.
Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, three brothers.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ruben Duckworth of Johnson City, Tennessee; one grandson, Lee Daniel Duckworth of Johnson City; one brother, John J. Reed of Scottsdale, Arizona; one sister, Pauline Reed of Pine Bluff.
The visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, August 26, 2011, in Memorial Park Cemetery
with Reverend Victor McGehee officiating and under the direction of Ralph Robinson & Son.
Morris Carter Rook, Sr.
November 9, 1932 - August 24, 2011
Morris Carter Rook, Sr., 78, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Rook was born November 9, 1932, in Yell County, to the late Aubrey and Louisia Chesney Rook.
He was a self-employed drywall finisher and painter.
Mr. Rook married Maretha Rook on October 4, 1996, in Lake Village, Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Maretha Rook of Pine Bluff; sons, Morris Carter Rook, Jr., Aubrey Rook, and James Rook, all of Pine Bluff; daughters, Betty Ann Patterson of Dumas, Angela Ann Rook of Hot Springs, Margaret Hopkins of Almyra, and Donna Rook of Pine Bluff; brother, Mark Rook of Ventura, California; sisters, Mary Cloud of Hot Springs, Carrie Jereb of California, Nora Crofutt and Lora Rook, both of Georgia; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marlin Rook, and a sister, Peggy Ann Hayden.
The family will receive friends Friday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Robinson’s.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Sandra Victoria Hargett Burgess Hart
August 9, 1948 - August 25, 2011
Sandra Victoria Hargett Burgess Hart, 63, of Monticello, died Thursday, August 25, 2011.
She was born August 9, 1948 in Dallas County, Texas, daughter of Harry Edwin Hargett and Ruth Mae Brooks Hargett.
Victoria was reared and received her early education in Odessa, Texas.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas and founder of the Chamber of Commerce in Coppell, Texas.
Victoria loved ballroom dancing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ottis Paul Burgess and her parents.
Survivors include her daughter, Andrea Shrum and her husband, Dr. Kelly Shrum, of Monticello; son, Ottis Paul Burgess, Jr. (Hart) of Monticello; brother, Harry Edwin Hargett, Jr. of Henderson, Texas; and four grandchildren, Clay, Brooke, Grace and Heather Shrum.
Memorial services may be held at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors in Pine Bluff.
Mary Carolyn Brown (Lawson)
October 3, 1948 - August 25, 2011
Mary Carolyn Brown, 62, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Baptist Health Medical Center.
Mary was born October 3, 1948, in Pine Bluff, to the late Robert William and Norma Jean Drewery Lawson. She was reared and received her education in Dallas, Texas. She also attended photography school in Dallas. She was an ordained minister.
Mary was a homemaker and a Baptist, who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her three daughters, Belinda Brown and Sandra Brown, both of Pine Bluff, and Amber (Wayne) Blankenship of White Hall; 10 grandchildren, Ashley James, Rebekha Bass, Chase Brown, Brittany Kenward, Josh Vick, Danielle Crossett, Mattie Deam, Daelynn Baughman, Brettlynn Blankenship, and Tyler Blankenship; 3 great grandchildren, Landon James, Kadon James, and Khloe McGehee; 2 brothers, Ricky Lee Lawson and Danny Lawson; a sister, Pat Hefley; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy Clifford Brown, three brothers, Robert Wayne Lawson, Bill Lawson, and Ronnie Lawson; and one sister, Bobbie Jean Lemons.
A visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Robinson’s.
A memorial service will be Monday, August 29, 2011, 6:00 PM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson with Brother Darryll Allred officiating.
Mary Kathryn Robinson Norris
June 14, 1923 - August 29, 2011
Mary Kathryn Norris, 88, of Pine Bluff died Monday, August 29, 2011. Born June 14, 1923 in Dardanelle, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Judge Lewis Macon and Jean Dobson Robinson, the Dardanelle High School and Arkansas Tech University graduate also studied at the University of Tennessee and the University of Arkansas.
She married John B. Norris in Savannah, Georgia in 1944. He died in 2004.
Mrs. Norris was a member of First Baptist Church, the Bess Jenkins Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, all in Pine Bluff.Her survivors include her sons, John L. (Pam) Norris of Lakeland, Florida and James M. (M'lou) Norris of Maumelle, Arkansas; daughter, Kathryn (Tommy) May of Pine Bluff; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 2111 West 46th Avenue, Pine Bluff.
Services are Thursday, September 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Matt Norton officiating. Interment follows in Graceland Cemetery. Eleanor Brown Joerden
July 26, 1936 - August 29, 2011
Eleanor Brown Joerden, 75, a longtime resident of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011, and flew on the wings of angels to be with our Lord. She was born on July 26, 1936 in Bastrop, Louisiana and soon moved to Georgetown, South Carolina where she grew up. After having graduated from Winyah High School, she completed her college education at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. In later years, she attained her Masters degree from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. As an education professional, she served many roles throughout life. In addition to being principal of a Georgetown County Middle School, she followed her passion for teaching the deaf at Poe Elementary School in Houston, Texas, and was employed many years in the Pine Bluff and White Hall school districts as a speech therapist.
Eleanor was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff, where she was married nearly 49 years ago to Larry Knox Joerden on October 6, 1962. Over the years her strong faith and dedication to her church was evident in her daily activities. Her favorite hobby and pastime was the study of birds and watching them in their habitat. An untold number of days in her life were spent on birding trails with guides in hand, identifying an endless number of birds. However, her favorite perch was on the bank of Lake Chicot in Lake Village. Eleanor carried spirit of adventure throughout her life. She enjoyed wildlife photography and even obtained her pilots license.
Her numerous active memberships in various organizations included: Master Gardener, P.E.O., Mathontes, Sesame, Daughters of the American Revolution, National Audubon Society, Local 3-Rivers Audubon Society, Jefferson County Genealogical Society, Jefferson County Historical Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, Bible Study Fellowship and the First Presbyterian Women's Board.
Mrs. Joerden was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Brown and Emma Mae Collins Brown of Bastrop, Louisiana.
Along with her husband, Larry Knox Joerden, she is survived by a brother, Thomas Collins Brown of Texarkana, Texas; son, John Knox Joerden of Hot Springs, Arkansas; daughter, Rebecca Joerden Farmer, her husband, Rodney Mitchum Farmer and their daughter, Emma Arden Farmer, all of Prague, Czech Republic; and nephew, Colin Anthony Brown of Texarkana.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful staff of Arkansas Hospice for their gentle professionalism and for lovingly embracing our whole family as though we were their own during the last days with our loved one. It is with heartfelt gratitude that we thank you.
A celebration of Eleanor's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Lance Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.

Elizabeth Pollett Drye Cody
June 6, 1953 - August 29, 2011
Elizabeth Pollett Drye Cody, 58, of Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Cody was born June 6, 1953, in Stuttgart, to the late Lanco and Minnie Hoover Drye. She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff, where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School.
She married Bill Cody on March 22, 1983, in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Cody owned and operated a child daycare center for several years, often referred to as “Mrs. Lizzie” by the children. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, nana and aunt. Her memory will forever live in our hearts and her time with us forever treasured.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Cody of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Paula Burlison of Pine Bluff; a son, Casey Cody and his wife, Tuesday of Pine Bluff; grandchildren, Kadie and Kolten Burlison, and Aubrey Cody; a great-grandchild, Landon Holcomb; four brothers, Joe Drye of Carlisle, Dean (Sissy) Drye of Carlisle, Clarence (Connie) Drye of North Carolina, and Danuel (Berta) Drye of Missouri; and five sisters, Regina “Gina” Drye of Carlisle, Doris (Gary) Fortenberry of Dumas, Trudy Drye (Rick Gazo) of Carlisle, Minnie Nell Hodnett of Carlisle, and Deborah Gresham of Pine Bluff; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cody was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leon Drye, and a sister, Carolyn Bell.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Robinson’s.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 2011, 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Reverend Tim Ramey and Reverend Josh Drye officiating. Interment will follow in Fitzhugh Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Paula Burlison.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Hospice Angels and a special thanks to nurses Tonia and Miss Ella for the loving care given to Mrs. Cody for the last four years.

Betty McLellan Jones
November 19, 1926 - September 11, 2011
Betty McLellan Jones, 84, of Pine Bluff died September 11, 2011 at Trinity Village Medical Center. Born in Pine Bluff November 19, 1926, a daughter of the late James Franklin and Mae Nunn McLellan, she grew up in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School.
As a young woman she was secretary to Harvey Couch at Arkansas Power & Light.
She married William D. Jones in Pine Bluff March 1, 1947. Mr. Jones died February 28, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Jim McLellan, Jr., Doug McLellan, Mary Jane McLellan, Nancy McLellan McMurry, and Martha Sue (Moppy) McLellan Smith.
For many years she was corporate secretary for Farmers Tractor and Equipment Company. She was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Board and was a member of United Methodist Women. She served on the Board of the Pine Bluff YMCA and was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Pine Bluff.
Survivors include three sons, William David Jones, Jr. of Little Rock, Met Leonard Jones II (Carol) of Pine Bluff, Robert Stuart Jones (DiAnn) of Pine Bluff; one daughter, Marianne Jones Hooker (Bill) of Kapa'a, Kauai, Hawaii; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeside United Methodist Church with Reverends Pam Estes and Ed Matthews officiating. Interment follows in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ralph Robinson & Son. The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 S. Olive Street, Pine Bluff, AR 71601 or to the donor's favorite charity. They express their appreciation to Mrs. Jones' caregivers including Rena Clark and Mossie Nesby.
