Edgar Staggs
Edgar Henry Staggs, 69, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church and a retired custodian for the Van Buren Middle School.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; two daughters, Tara Greenwood and Gayla Walker, both of Van Buren; a son, Mark Staggs of Amherst, Texas; a sister, Maxine Darter of Tulare, Calif.; two brothers, Edward Staggs of Pinole, Calif., and Paul Staggs of Balch Springs, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 31 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Macedonia Cemetery near Uniontown.
Pallbearers were Harold Loveless, Marty Clark, Bryon Staggs, Odell Nunley, Steve and Jeremy Greenwood.
Honorary pallbearers were nurses in the Alzheimer’s Wing at Crawford Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

Nancy Wormuth
Nancy P. Wormuth, 85, of Mountainburg died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born July 17, 1917, in Johnson City, Tenn. She was a retired licensed practical nurse and of the Baptist faith.
Graveside service was held Jan. 30 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
She is survived by her husband, Austin.

Jasper Caton
Jasper Donnohue “Don” Caton, 85, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a former executive vice president for Ayers Furniture and was secretary treasurer for Ward Furniture Company, was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a colonel in the Air Force Reserve, a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, the RSVP and Retired military.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie Crabtree of Van Buren and Donna Callies of Findlay, Ohio; four sons, Gary Don Caton of Los Angeles, Gordon Caton of San Antonio, Scott Caton of Van Buren and Anthony Caton of Fort Smith; a sister, Enid Hine of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Dale Caton of Van Buren; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 1 at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Gary Don, Gordon, Scott and Anthony Caton and Keith Crabtree.

James Snow
James C. Snow, 72, of Rogers died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at his home. He was a retired employee of Emerson Electric and a member of Seventh Day Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Romona; a daughter, Lynette Wertman of Rogers; a son, Ray Snow of Watts, Okla.; three sisters, Maxine Melton of Fort Smith, Fay Morgan of Muldrow and Donnell Page of Arkoma; and three brothers, L.C. Snow of Watts, Bill and Kenneth Snow of Fort Smith.
Funeral was held Feb. 1 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel of Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Ronald and Harold Melton, Doug Wertman, L.C. Snow, Bill Snow and Jack Roberson.

Melissa Powers
Melissa Jane Powers, 42, of Lawton died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in Lawton. She was raised in Texas and Oklahoma where she attended school. She recently worked for the Veteran’s Administration Retirement Home and volunteered at her children’s schools.
Survivors include two sons, Joshua Sean Powers and Jimmy Scott Powers, both of Lawton; six sisters, Connie Pruitt of Lawton, Doris Raborn of Abilene, Texas, Nesa Sparks of Maybank, Texas, Ann Stout of Jacksboro, Texas, Barbara Wilbourn of Rudy, Althea Gay of Van Buren, Diane Bean of Arizona City, Ariz., Elizabeth Fields of Vallejo, Calif., and Jean Pruitt of Temple, Texas; and four brothers, Mickey Pruitt of Lawton, William Pruitt of Abilene, Texas, George Hunt of San Angelo, Texas, and Lovel Kingery of Cross Plains, Texas.
Memorial service was held Feb. 1 at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lawton.

Virgil Arnold
Virgil “Butch” Arnold, 57, of Van Buren died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his home. He was a retired engineer for Rheem Air Conditioning Division in Fort Smith and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Velma; two daughters, Danette Harms of DeRidder, La., and Veronica Parish of Prairie Grove; six sisters, Linda Phillips of Tulsa, Mary Lou Miller of St. Louis, Connie Berry of Pocola and Debbie Cole, Carolyn Grow and Tammie Grimes, all of Fort Smith; two brothers, Tommy Arnold of Fort Smith and Ricky Rodriques of Hartford; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held May 21 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Peachtree Hospice, 2910 Jenny Lind Road, Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Charles Hamilton
Charles Alvin Hamilton, 81, of Van Buren died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired truck driver, former employee of Sebastian County Road Department and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Williamson of Freemont, Calif.; one son, Jerry Alvin Hamilton of Greenwood;. one stepson, Norvell Strickland of Van Buren; one brother, M.C. Hamilton of Greenwood; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held May 21 at Bloodworth Cemetery in Scott County under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Hamilton, Jesse Hamilton, Tom Wilson, Bobby Hamby, Keith Hamilton and Calvin Hamilton.

Mamie Teague
Mamie F. Teague, 101, of Mountainburg died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at an Alma nursing home. She was a charter member of the Pigeon Creek Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was the widow of Andy Teague.
She is survived by a son, George Teague of Mountainburg; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held May 21 at Pigeon Creek Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Conley Cemetery in Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were great-grandsons Nicholas Reed, Ryan Willroth, Bruce Bull, David Church, Shannon Reeves and Jeff Teague.
Honorary pallbearers were the rest of her great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Marion
Carolyn R. Marion, 58, of Cedarville died Friday, May 16, 2003, at her home. She was retired from Whirlpool after 31 years of service. She was a member of the Cedarville First Baptist Church and a graduate of Cedarville High School, class of 1963.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; two sons, Chris and James Marion, both of Cedarville; a sister, Marilyn Mitchell of Dripping Springs; a brother, David Miller of Dripping Springs; and three grandchildren, Amber, Taylor and Cole.
Funeral serevice was held May 19 at Cedarville First Baptist Church with burial at Kimbler Cemetery in Cedarville under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Cecil and J.L. Freeman. Kenneth McClendon, Bill Neighbors, James Parmenter and John Odom.

Essie Weldon
Essie Weldon, 101, of Van Buren died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and the widow of Isaac Weldon.
Graveside service was held May 20 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a son, Denver Townley of Alameda, Calif.; two sisters, Bessie Cole of Fort Smith and Florine Armstrong of Van Buren; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Will Lewis
Will Roy Lewis, 59, of Alma died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at a Van Buren hospital. He was the owner and operator of Lewis Insurance Agency in Alma, a lifelong resident of Crawford County and of the Assembly of God faith.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; three daughters, Tammy Pate of Emerald Isle, N.C., and Trina Hayes and Leslie Entrekin, both of Mulberry; two sons, Roy and Jeff Lewis, both of Alma; a brother, Robert Lewis of Fort Smith; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service was held May 20 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry.
Pallbearers were Roy Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Adam Hayes, Jack Entrekin, Tracy Johnson, Don Hardcastle, Kevin Hardcastle and Paul Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Moon, Russell Griffin, Raymond Ivey, Dave Valentini, Brenda Belcher, Doug McKinney and John Parris.

Charles Fitzgerald
Charles “Chock” Fitzgerald, 66, of Van Buren died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his home. He was the widower of Juanita Fitzgerald. He was a Baptist and was retired from the construction business.
He is survived by a daughter, Laura Putman of Van Buren; a son, Charles Fitzgerald of Van Buren; a sister, Florence Winters of Boyton, Okla.; a brother, Dorvon Fitzgerald of Van Buren; and three grandchildren, Christen, Jacqueline and Jake Fitzgerald.
Graveside service was held May 19 at Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Randy Long, Brett Winters, Coyd Welch, Glen Putman and Dustin and Carrol Wilson.
