Marty Polk
Marty John Polk, 44, of Farmington died Saturday, July 26, 2003, in Jackson, Tenn. He was a self-employed roofer.
He is survived by his wife, Lani; his parents, John and Mary Polk of Mulberry; a sister, Cathy Jones of Mulberry; and four brothers, Alan, Joe, Bobby and Tom Polk, all of Mulberry.
Funeral service was held July 30 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Pope Cemetery in Graphic Community.
Pallbearers were Randy Horn, Glenn Miyasato, Joshua and Roger Jones, Bob Graham and Danny Polk.

Alice Carter
Alice Dora Carter, 91, of Alma died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at a Little Rock hospital. She had worked for 35 years at Alma Canning Co. and was later employed by the Alma School District. He was the widow of Orville Carter.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held July 29 at Alma City Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.

Roger Huff
Roger “Buddy” Huff, 54, of Van Buren died Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Van Buren. He was employed at Riverside Furniture Co. in Fort Smith.
There is no service scheduled at the time. The body was cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Carylen; a daughter, Wendy Brown of Muskogee, Okla.; two sons, Michael and Roger Huff Jr., both of Van Buren; two stepsons, Fabian and Timothy Starr, both of Van Buren; a sister, Emma Wiggins of Van Buren; a brother, Raymond Huff of Mulberry; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 320 N. Greenwood Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Burl Grace
Burl Grace, 76, of Van Buren died Friday, July 25, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a retired diesel mechanic, a Protestant and a Navy veteran.
He is survived by a stepson, Ronald Duvall of California; two sisters, Darlene Moon of Fort Smith and Susan Hubbard of Bentonville; six brothers, Ralph Grace of Van Buren, John Grace of Fort Smith, Clarence Grace of Palmdale, Calif., James Grace of Ozark, Argus Grace of Bentonville and Albert Grace Jr. of Lowell.
Funeral service was held July 29 at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Dustin and Clifford Shipman, Travis Moon, Allen and Tommy Grace, Randy Jones and Brent and Keith Sampley.

Lydia Webb
Lydia S. Webb, 90, of Van Buren died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and member of Eastside Baptist Church in Memphis. She was the widow of Homer Webb.
Funeral service was held July 29 at Munford Funeral Home in Millington, Tenn., with burial at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Tenn., under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Alma.
She is survived by four daughters, Doris Goodwin of Mountainburg, Lucille Remington of Hanford, Calif., Helen Goeppinger of Longmont, Colo., and Lola Reece of West Sacremento, Calif.; three sons, R.A. Webb of Jackson, Tenn., Jimmy Webb Sr. of Mountainburg and Donald Webb of Memphis, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

George Mitchell
George H. Mitchell, 81, a native of Alma, died July 2, 2003, in Phoenix, Ariz. He retired in 1986 after 30 years with the International Longshoremen’s Union, Local 6. He also was a member of Los Angeles Harbor Lodge No. 332, F&AM.
Survivors include a son, George W. Mitchell of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Jack D. Mitchell of Omaha, Neb.; and three grandchildren.
Masonic graveside service was held July 7 at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Ruth Hyatt
Ruth Hyatt, 61, of Cedarville died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at a local hospital. She attended Uniontown Assembly of God Church, was a homemaker and widow of Walter Hyatt.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce McCormick of Fort Smith, Kathryn Inthavong of Uniontown and Ardella Duke of Cedarville; two sons, Leroy Hyatt of Dardanelle and Leon Hyatt of Cedarville; one sister, Florence Fredrick of Farmington; two brothers, Sam Moses of Ramona, Okla., and Jessie Moses of Cedarville; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held July 26 at Shamrock Cemetery near Cove City under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Eugene Bentley, Charles Bentley, Clarence Richards, Kenneth McClendon, Lonnie Landrum, Charles Alls and Cheston Brock.

Ava Clawson
Ava Clawson, 91, of Van Buren died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, was retired from McDonald-Douglas Corp. in Huntington Beach, Calif., and the widow of Fern Clawson.
She is survived by a daughter, Nan Smith of Van Buren; three grandchildren, Lee Smith and Janna Sue VanKirk, both of Van Buren, and Lara Ann Brisson of Athol, Mass.; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held July 26 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Lee Smith, Joe Wood, Sam VanKirk, Bob Greenwood, Buddy Williams and Joe Dyer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice program of the donor’s choice.

Logan Ramos
Logan Blake Rodel Ramos, infant son of Victoria Sumerix and Melvin Ramos, both of Fort Smith, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in a Little Rock hospital.
Other survivors include his paternal grandparents, Pedro and Fidela Ramirez Ramos of Guatemala; and maternal grandparents, Eva Sumerix of Spiro and Paul Sumerix of Michigan.
Funeral service was held July 25 Woodlawn Mausoleum Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Kenny Wray, Amanda Rogers and Josh Oliver.

Sylvia Barnett
Sylvia C. Barnett, 87, of Van Buren died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Crawford County and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Barnett; one son, Paul W. Barnett of Cedarville; one brother, Leo Bowen of Cedarville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 27 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Sarah Grove Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Carl Dale Dollard, Gary and David Barnett, Roger Campbell and Bob and Mark LaRue. Honorary pallbearers were Charles, Conley, Freddy, John, Quince and Curtis O’Kelley and Paul Moon.

Eugene Lopez
Eugene “Gene” Lopez, 73, of Van Buren died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at his home. He was a boiler operator for A E Stanley Manufacturing Co. in Van Buren, a member of First Assembly of God and a retired Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Lopez.
He is survived by his wife, Joy; two daughters, Connie Gregory of Rudy and Lynda Ellison of Fairbolt, Minn.; four stepdaughters, Rhonda Adamson of Peru, Ill., Donna Ammons of South Haven, Miss., Angela Berrios of Springdale and Deborah Swaar of Fayetteville; three sons, Kenneth Lopez of Van Buren, David Lopez of Hot Springs and Michael Lopez of Van Buren; two sisters, Carmen Malave and Blanca La Court, both of Puerto Rico; seven brothers, Etifanio Girau of New Jersey, Perciliano Lopez of Alma, Eddie Lopez and Heriberto Lopez, both of Puerto Rico, Edwin Lopez of West Palm Beach, Fla., Walter Lopez of Chicago and Irving Lopez of New Jersey; 35 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 30 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Hazel Plum
Hazel Christee Plum, 94, of Alma died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at her home. She was the widow of Bill Plum, a charter and 50-year member of Melody Chapter 579 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a founding member of the Highway 71 Freewill Baptist Church in Alma. She worked the election polls in the Lancaster voting district in Crawford County for 50 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Catherine Johnston of Van Buren, Margaret McCormick of Alma and Dorothy Davis of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 30 at Newberry Methodist Church in Alma with burial at Newberry Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were John, Tracy, Mark and Josh McCormick, David Johnston and Vicki Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers were her nephews and her friends.
