Robert Wayt
Robert Hugh Wayt, 73, of Checotah, Okla., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at his home. He was born Aug. 30, 1930, in Fort Smith to C.B. and Bertha Wallace Wayt. Mr. Wayt was retired from Arkhola Sand & Gravel Co. in Fort Smith, where he worked as a mechanic. Mr. Wayt was preceded in death by his parents, C.B. and Bertha Wayt; a sister, Betty Jo McDonald; and a brother, Donald Wayt.
He is survived by his wife, Aileene of the home; a daughter, Gayle Wells of Alma; a son, Dennis Wayt of Tallahassee, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Lou Chamberlain of Roland, Dora Ellen Howard of Pocola and Doris Russell of Checotah; two brothers, Cecil Wayt of Lakewood, Calif., and Bill Wayt of Checotah; four grandchildren, Cody Collier of Fort Smith, Jason Collier of Shreveport, La., and Sydney and Connie Wasdin, both of Tallahassee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Nov. 26 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Steephill Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Cody and Jason Collier, Wayne McDonald, Randy Wayt, Mark Chamberlain and David Couch.

Gene Rodgers
Gene Rodgers, 80, of Mulberry died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a retired machinist for Bell Helicopter.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at New Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by a sister, Opal Love of Lake City, and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Yandell
Robert Yandell, 50, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in a local hospital. He was an employee of Mac Steel, having a perfect attendance record for the past 15 years.
Memorial service was held Nov. 24 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Danette; one daughter, Tracy Yandell of Fort Smith; two sons, Bobby Yandell of Fort Smith and Rocky Knell of Van Buren; his father, Eric Willis of Poteau; three sisters, Betty Kuehn of Okarche, Okla., Linda Howard of Heavener and Crystal Gokey of Shawnee, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.

Marilyn Potter
Marilyn Kay Potter, 50, of Van Buren died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church and a retired nurses’ aide for the Area Agency on Aging.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Potter; one son, Derrick Potter of Van Buren; her mother, Margaret Meadors of Mountainburg; one sister, Etta “Sue” Center of Mountainburg; and one brother, Dennis Ervil Meadors of Van Buren.
Funeral service was held Nov. 24 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial will be at Vaught Cemetery in Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Kyle Meadors, Brett Center, Damon Meadors, Larry Crawford, Keith Lewis and Darrell Farquhar. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Potter, Bill Perry and Ronnie McGarrah.

Imogene Robbins
Imogene M. Robbins, 69, of Mountainburg died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at her home. She was a member of Locke Freewill Baptist Church, a homemaker and widow of Herbert Robbins.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Easter of Cedarville; five sons, Jerry Don, Thomas and Charles Robbins, all of Mountainburg, Larry Robbins of Greenwood and Johnny Robbins of Mulberry; two sisters, Judy Gregory of Van Buren and Audrey Marrow of Severy, Kan.; four brothers, J.C. Donaldson of Valrico, Fla., Sherman and Fines Lee Donaldson, both of Wichita, Kan., and Bobby Donaldson of Mountainburg; 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Nov. 24 at Locke Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was at Locke Cemetery in Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Jason Mann, Dewayne Peters, Keith Willet, Wade Parr, John Creel and Tommy Key. Honorary pallbearers were Andy Jones, Norman Williams and Chris Marrow.

Ruby Hays
Ruby Ellen Hays, 85, of Van Buren died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at her home. She was a member of Rena Road Christian Church, Wood Memorial Women’s Guild, Secret Sisters Society and the Retired School Teachers Association, graduate of Arkansas Tech University, an elementary school teacher having retired after 40 years of service at Albert Pike Elementary School and the widow of Earl Hayes.
She is survived by a son, Sam Hays of Van Buren; a brother, John Motley of Hot Springs Village; five grandchildren, Kristall Hays, Cliff Hays, Clint Hays and Vernon Howard, all of Van Buren, and Tawnya Duplantis of Monticello, Ark., and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 4 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Gary and Danny Deffenbaugh, Paul and Brian Summerhill, Frank Newman and John Smith Sr. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Abshere, John Smith Jr., Travis Pense, Stephen and Jess Staggs, Paul Hays Jr., Ronnie Turner and Tommy Don Wilson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rena Christian Church, 1402 Rena Road, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Clifford Hopkins
Clifford Hopkins, 86, of Van Buren died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at a local hospital. He was a Army veteran of World War II, member of Independence Freewill Baptist Church and retired farmer and horse trainer. He was the widower of Edna Hopkins.
Funeral service was held Feb. 4 at Independence Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Hall Cemetery near Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by four daughters, Norane Price and Margaret Franklin, both of Twinsburg, Ohio, Marie Swaim of Beachwood, Ohio, and Nancy Cluck of Cedarville; two sons, Robert Hopkins of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jack Hopkins of Sallisaw; three sisters, Cleta Jones and Florence Fields, both of Tulsa, and Tressie Hall of Alma; one brother, Ray Hopkins of Tulsa; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Garnet J. Shelly
Garnet J. Shelly, 80, of Van Buren died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God in Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert W. Shelly; two sons, Wesley A. Shelly of Van Buren and Larry H. Shelly of Fort Smith; a sister, Lucille Hays of Alma; two brothers, James E. Wonderly of Tahlequah, Okla., and Thomas O. Wonderly of Alma; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 3 at the First Assembly of God in Van Buren with burial at Alma Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Cecil and Buddy Hesslen, Doyle Johns, Tilsey Byram, Carl Grizzle, James Kerr, Larry Mays, Dennis Taylor and Floyd Gage.

Lee Sallee
Lee “L.C.” Sallee, 79, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a former employee of New Haven Nursing Center and a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Smith where he was active in the Awana’s Program.
Survivors include four sons, Jack Sallee of Little Rock, Jerry Sallee of Fort Smith, Rickey Sallee of Bakersfield, Calif., and Tracey Sallee of Queens City, Texas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel of Fort Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church’s Awana’s Program, 1004 Grand Ave., Fort Smith, AR 792901.

Dale Baber
Dale Gene Baber, 63, of Van Buren died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, in Van Buren. He was a machinist for Custom Craft.
He is survived by three daughters, Marla Hill of Van Buren and Cathy Lively and Telairra Lovell, both of Fort Smith; a son, Gary Baber of Van Buren; a sister, Levada Young of Fort Smith; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 2 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Patrick, Stephen and Robbie Dugan and Adam Selby.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice, 5401 Ellsworth Road, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Mary Wilbanks
Mary Allie Wilbanks, 87, of Mulberry died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a retired cook with the Mulberry school system and a member of the Ruth Sunday school class, Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 260 and Mulberry Extension Homemakers. She was the widow of Ezra Wilburn.
She is survived by five daughters, Ruth Bowlin of Mulberry, Sue Burris of Enid, Okla., Peggy Williams of Centerton, Marsha Edwards of Paris and Jo Ann Tucker of Mulberry; three sons, Jack Wilbanks of Fort Collins, Colo., Grady Wade of Bella Vista and John Wilbanks of Boston; two brothers, Charles Pannell of Sparks, Nev., and Jimmy Pannell of Hanford, Calif.; 29 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 2 at First Baptist Church of Mulberry with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Mulberry.
Pallbearers were John Pannell, Isaac Pannell III, Bill Laughard, Robbie Williams, Stoney and Tony Ferraro and Jason Steadman. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Eastern Star and Ruth Sunday school class.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Mulberry, 453 Church Ave., Mulberry, AR 72947.

Margaret Thomas
Margaret Juanita Thomas, 80, of Alma died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, attended Christian Assembly Church and was a former employee of Mitchell Manufacturing Co. She was a longtime resident of Sunnyside community.
She is survived by her husband, Gene; a daughter, Michelle Johnson of Fort Smith; a grandchild, Todd Michael Thomas of Fort Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10 .m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Jon Fritchey, Milton Fine, Ronnie Emmert, Eddie Elkins, the Rev. Eddie Gwinn and Mike Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Jones, H.C. Earp, Jerry Hill, Paul Brant, the Rev. Bill Caldwell and Odell Brown.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
