Brandon Beshears
Brandon Robert Beshears, 21 of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at his home. He was born April 8, 1983, in Fort Smith. He was a graduate of Alma High School, Class of 2001. Brandon was an electrical engineering major at UAFS, received the Gordon Kelly Electrical Engineering Scholarship and worked in construction. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and formerly attended Mulberry Church of Christ. He was an avid supporter of Bikers Against Child Abuse.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Caleb and Casey Beshears, Bradley Marion, Chris Weeks, Matthew Scott, Eric Woodard and Chris Mayser.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Joyce and Mike Dahlem of Alma; father and stepmother, Dan and Renee Beshears of Fort Smith; two brothers, Caleb and Casey Beshears of Alma; grandmother, Aline Pope of AIma; grandfather, Robert Beshears of Bonanza; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He also is survived by a special friend, Britny Asbury, and her daughter, Kadynce Asbury. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Erma Beshears, and a grandfather, Gerald Pope.
The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

William England Jr.
William H. “Billy” England Jr., 46, of Gilroy, Calif., died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, in Gilroy. He was a transfer driver for Grantive Construction, formerly with Don Chapin Co. and Keith Day Trucking. He graduated from North Salinas High School, Class of 1975. He was an avid fisherman, loved NASCAR and had been a big fan of Dale Earnhardt St. He also was a Giants and a 49ers fan. Special times included watching his son Billy III race motorcycles and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda England of Gilroy; one son and his wife, Rebecca of Salinas, Calif.; his parents, Donna and Ernie Hammontree of Uniontown; three sisters, Barbara Miller and Barbara Hammontree, both of Uniontown, and Marsha Myers of Idaho; one brother, Bob England of Uniontown; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hall Cemetery Arbor with burial at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Gelene Lamb
Gelene Hendershot Lamb, 64, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at a local hospital. She was the retired administrator at New Haven Nursing Home, a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church, a lifetime member of Old Town Setoma Club and past member of Fort Smith Zonta Club.
She is survived by her husband, Leon; a son, Randy Hendershot of Van Buren; two stepdaughters, LeAnn Rogers of Mount Vernon, Mo., and Melissa Sitton of Vian; three stepsons, Darren Lamb, Kevin Lamb of Van Buren and Stephen Lamb of Muldrow; three sisters, Genieve Brasel and Linda Kilgore, both of Jasper, and Genel Buckle of Robbinsville, N.C.; a brother, Hubert Roberson of Parthenon; and 18 grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Aug. 11 at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Glen Hopkins, Frank Atkinson, David Broaddrick, Richard Borengasser, David Edwards and James Parmenter.

Margaret Rodgers
Margaret Post Carroll Rodgers went to meet her Lord, Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Alma. She was 86 years and four months of age. Her birthplace was Mound City, Kan. She was one of six children born to Claude and Helen Ann Post. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Jerome Carroll and Hall Rodgers. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Van Buren and a lifetime member of the Library Friends in Bull Shoals.
She is survived by her son, Franklin Carroll and wife, Margaret; two grandsons, Jeroma (Jerry) Carroll and Phillip Carroll; one granddaughter, Eilaine Day; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Querry of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews.
Rosary was held Aug. 10, followed by visitation at Edwards-Van Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was held Aug. 11 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Van Buren with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were John, Michael, and Matthew Day, Jerry, Ray and Phillip Carroll.

Vesta Higdon
Vesta Shirley Higdon, 96, of Mulberry died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at a local nursing home. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Fort Smith, Alma and Altus School Systems. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mulberry and Crawford County Retired Teachers Association and preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Raymond Higdon.
Survivors include a daughter, Molly Dickerson of Mulberry; a son, John Higdon of Hannibul, Mo.; a sister, Jean Palmer of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Mulberry under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Juanita Sewell
Juanita Law Sewell, 80, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Aug, 3, 2004, at a local nursing home. She wasa native of Ratcliff.
Survivors include two sons, Litton Logan of Los Alamos, N.M., and Joe Logan of Clarksdale, Miss.; one sister, Fay Snidow of Abingdon, Va.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Aug. 10 at Garden of Memorial in Charleston.

William Staggs
William Stanley Staggs, 91, of Rudy died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at his home. He attended the Freedom Freewill Baptist Church and was a retired carpenter.
Graveside service was held Aug. 5 at Center Point Cemetery near Waldron under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by a daughter, Wilma Shores of Alma; a son, Jess Staggs of Van Buren; a sister, Esther Hall of California; a brother, Roy Staggs of California; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Betty Whitlock
Mrs. Betty Whitlock, 85, of Paris died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at a Paris hospital. She was the widow of Warren Whitlock and was a member of the Paris Arkansas Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Wrubel of Newport Beach, Calif., and LaRue Cochran of Ann Arbor, Mich.; one son, Jerry Whitlock of Troy, Mich.; a sister, Lou Davis of Paris; a sister-in-law, Ruby Whitlock of Alma; and her grandchildren, Nicholas Wrubel, Shari Davis, Stephen Wrubel, Timothy Wrubel, Ryan Whitlock, Robin Keith, Carl Ralph; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 7 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Alma Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Wrubel, Dr. Dirk Davis, Tyler Davis, Roger Crouch, Louie Whitlock, Ben Davis and Bill Davis.

Kim Teague
Kim Z. Teague, 42, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at a local hospital. She worked at Beckham Nutrition Center and was a member of First Baptist Church in Van Buren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 7 at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie; a daughter, Crystal Teague of Long Grove, Okla.; five sons, Joseph, Andrew and Jeremy Teague, Randy Beesley and Kenny Barnett, all of Van Buren; her mother, Alva Walley of Van Buren; a sister, Pam Osborne of Vian; two brothers, J.L. Walley of Oklahoma City and Joe Walley of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.

Martha Coomer
Martha Agnes Coomer, 80, of Alma died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at her home. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, lifelong resident of Crawford County, retired inspector for Whirlpool and widow of Finis Coomer.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Faye Smith and LaDonna Gaye Martin, both of Alma; two sons, William Finis Coomer of Van Buren and Norman Dale Coomer of Alma; one sister, Eula Bell Hart of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Harold K. Oliver of Alma and Earl Oliver of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 7 at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at Yoestown Cemetery near Alma under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Jeff Painter, Sam Oliver, Don Oliver, Bryan Nichols, Jason Parks and Jerry Oliver Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Don Gooch, Charles Montgomery, Johnny Painter, Darrell Oliver, Bobby Oliver, Ricky Hamilton, Henry Hamilton, Jerry Oliver Sr. and Terry Parks.

Kenneth Harris
Kenneth ODale Harris, 61, of Van Buren died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born July 8, 1943, in Paris. He was a truck driver and a member of First Church of God in Fort Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Phillips and Amy Rodgers, both of Van Buren; two sons, Richard Harris of Booneville and James Harris of Van Buren; three sisters, Joyce Lamproe and Judy Solley, both of Van Buren, and Barbara Honea of Fort Smith; six brothers, Eugene Harris of Mountainburg, Bill and Steve Harris, both of Fort Smith, and Jerry, Dennis and Roger Harris, all of Van Buren; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 1 at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were his brothers.

Milton Levy
Milton Samuel Levy, 91, of Van Buren died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, in Van Buren. He was a retired commercial artist who served many advertising agencies and was noted for his illustrated quotes, often seen in our local newspaper. He was a veteran of the Army serving during World War II and was noted for his service there in the drawing of military maps. He was the founder of the Toastmasters Club of Van Buren and a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Fort Smith. He was a former resident of Peachtree South and a member of the United Hebrew Temple.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel L. Levy and is survived by a nephew and his wife, Richard and Shirley Licht of of Knoxville, Tenn.
Graveside service was held Aug. 31 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
