Thelma J. Jenkins

Thelma Jones Jenkins, 93, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.

She was a native of Plainview, daughter of the late William Marion and Sarah Myrtle Darter Jones, widow of I. W. Jenkins, graduate of Ola High School, retired co-owner of Nu Frocke Shoppe, member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Mable Randall and Ruby Nell Dennis; and one niece, Susan Randall.

She is survived by one niece, Patti Davis of Clarksville; one great-niece, Amber Davis of North Little Rock; one great-nephew, Ashley Davis of Clarksville; and one great-great-nephew, Ashton Davis of Clarksville.

Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Billy Usery officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Varnelle C. Smedley

Varnelle Carter Smedley, 98, of Clarksville died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Clarksville, daughter of the late Frank C. and Etta Ray Carter, widow of Leo Smedley Sr., and was preceded in death by one son, Leo Smedley Jr.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Anna Smedley of Clarksville; two brothers, Joe Carter of Clarksville and Roy Carter of Ridgecrest, Calif.; two grandchildren and spouses, Beverly and Clyde Eubanks of Fayetteville and Gary and Linda Smedley of Rogers; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Coats, Jim Rogers, Glen Hickey, Carl Williams, Edd Young, and Calvin Warren.

Frances E. Smith

Frances Evelyn Astle Smith, 96, died March 27, 2004, at the Mount Hope Nursing Center in Mount Hope, Kan.

She was a native of Haven, Kan., daughter of the late George Simeon and Mary Catherine Brain Astle, 1927 graduate of Haven High School, restaurant owner, and had been active in the Federated Church of Mount Hope where she sang with quartets and in the choir and served as chancel chairman.

She was a former resident of Clarksville, attended Clarksville First United Methodist Church and was a member of E.H.U. She was the widow of Carl H. McCormick, Homer C. Hudson, and Forrest H. Smith, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Darlyne Laughlin; two brothers, Ercel and Olin Astle; and one sister, Gladys L. Doles.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Dean McCormick of Fort Smith; one daughter, Gladys Evelyn Miles of Mount Hope, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Donna Grass of Broomfield, Colo., and Winifred Priddle of Haven, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Wednesday, March 31, at the Federated Church in Mount Hope, Kan., with Pastor Daniel Ensz officiating. Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Wulf-Ast Mortuary of Mount Hope, Kan.

Blake E. Keith

Blake Edward Keith, 35, of Lewisville, Texas, father of Andy Keith of Lamar, died Monday, March 22, 2004, in Lewisville, Texas.

He was a native of Ozark, self-employed carpenter working in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area the last eight years, and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, J. C. and Otha Keith of Webb City and maternal grandfather, Bill Meiger.

Other survivors include his father, Jackie Keith of New Blaine; mother, Mary Keith Conrad of Southlake, Texas; one brother, Eric Keith of New Blaine; and maternal grandmother, Adelheid Meiger of Altus.

A private service was held by the family at J. E. Foust Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas.

Brian K. Williams

Brian Keith Williams, 37, of Magazine, brother of Brenda Hudson of Clarksville, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital from injuries sustained in an accident in Yell County.

A native of Paris, he was disabled and attended the Assembly of God Church at Blue Mountain.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Garland and Anna Williams of Ozark; mother and stepfather, Betty and Roy Hutchins of Blue Mountain; two other sisters, Karen Yeager and Harlene Thompson, both of Dardanelle; and four brothers, Mike Williams of Boulder City, Nev., Rickey Williams of Texas, and Ronnie and Larry Williams, both of Magazine.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Brearley Cemetery at Dardanelle under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.

Pallbearers were Mike, Rickey, Ronnie and Larry Williams, Ronnie and Terry Fannon and Fred Scott.

Destiny Williamson

Destiny Williamson, infant daughter of Boyd Wayne Williamson and Kathy Lynne Campbell Williamson, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

Other survivors include one sister, Tia Williamson of Clarksville; five brothers, Matthew Mayden, Kris Griffin and Koda Norrid, all of Clarksville, Andy Clark of Dover, and Dylon Williamson; and grandparents, Juanita Combs of Clarksville, Jim Campbell of Lamar and Bob Williamson of California.

Graveside services and burial were at 4 p.m. Monday, April 12, at the Oark Cemetery with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Koda Norrid and Kris Griffin.

Jimmy M. Butler

Jimmy Mack Butler, 54, of Clarksville died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his home.

He was a native of Beggs, Okla., son of the late Billy Bruce and Mildred Marie Wescott Butler, Army veteran of the Korean War and a master plumber and electrician.

Survivors are his widow, Donna Butler; two daughters, Melissa Williams Green and Melanie Butler, both of Clarksville; three sons, Cody Butler, Jimmy Jack Butler and Andrew Butler, all of Clarksville; stepfather, James C. Bell of Coal Hill; three brothers, Bruce Butler of Clarksville, James Bell of Coal Hill, and Carl Bell of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with burial in Coal Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bert Killane, Bert Killane Jr., Jeff Breed, Chet Wages, and David Price.

Honorary pallbearer will be Gary Buckner.

James F. Mills

James Floyd (Jim) Mills, 60, died March 28, 2004, in McAllen, Texas.

He was a son of the late Alma Mills.

Survivors include his widow, Angel Mills; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Tuke Mills of Saipan; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and John Kline of Leesburg, Ga.; two grandchildren, Matthew Alexander and Chelsea Estelle; father, Floyd (Red) Mills of the Spadra Community; two sisters, Alice Hodge of Hagarville and Doris Velte of Clarksville; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

The body was cremated in McAllen, Texas.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Wares Chapel Cemetery east of Scranton. Visitation will follow at the home of Floyd (Red) Mills where family and friends are invited to attend.

Michael H. Bly

Michael Horace Bly, 41, of Galveston, Texas, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, in Galveston, Texas.

He was a native of New Orleans, La., talented craftman and musician, lead guitarist for the band "Opie," and was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zack and Rena Bly and John and Lillie Myers.

He is survived by his parents, Bill and Edythe Myers Bly of Granbury, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie and Doug Sweat of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Billie and Alden Moore of Granbury, Texas; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Luke and Pat Bly of Port Lavaca, Texas, and Zack Bly of San Antonio, Texas; and local relatives including aunts and uncles, Jean and Harlan Tipton of Clarksville and Anna and John Myers of London; and cousins, Bob and Shirley Frost of Clarksville.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Clarksville Church of Christ with David Coats officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Ralph H. Brehm

Ralph H. Brehm, 76, of Clarksville died Friday, April 9, 2004.

He was a former resident of Houston, Texas, member of Peace Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas, attended East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church near Clarksville, served in the U. S. Navy and was a retired salesman.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Bobby Dayne Phillips of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Devin and Heather Phillips; stepchildren and spouses are Scott and Karen Underwood and Cindy and Greg Hendrickson; and stepgrandchildren, Amanda and Casey Underwood and Alex Angelescu.

The body was cremated.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the East Mount Zion Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund.

Raymond D. Sykes

Raymond Duane Sykes, 71, of Clarksville died Saturday, April 10, 2004.

A native of Tulsa, Okla., he was a son of the late John R. and Reba H. Sykes, veteran of the U. S. Army with three years service during the Korean War, retired from the United States Department of Agriculture with 33 years of service as an instructor for the Job Corps at Cass, member of the American Legion and Clarksville First United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Sykes; one daughter, Lori Ann; and two sisters, Reba and Cecilia.

Survivors include his widow, Joyce Sykes; one son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Victoria Sykes of London; one daughter, Donna Standridge of Russellville; four stepsons and spouses, Richard Fanning of Shreveport, La., Lauren and Lois Meinert of Monroe, Wis., Steve and Carol Meinert of Lavaca, and Fred L. Meinert of Eau Claire, Wis.; two stepdaughters and spouse, Shirla Obannon of Lamar and Kathleen and Brian Morrow of Hartman; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marilyn Wyatt of Van Buren, Shirley and Herman C. Johnston of Shreveport, La., and Marynelle and John Windham of Heavener, Okla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frankie and Joanne Sykes of Heavener, Okla., and Koen and Laura Sykes of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; 11 stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksville with Rev. Steve Wingo officiating.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Guy Frix, Frank Deeds, Jimmy Funderburg, Floyd Pledger, Red Wilder, and Scott Trujillo.

Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Hall, Bill Acord, and Jack Cecil.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Clarksville, Head and Neck Cancer Research Center, UAMS, Little Rock, or Arkansas Hospice.
