Robert Verlon Woods

WYNNE -- Robert Verlon Woods, 67, of Wynne died Dec. 5, 2006.

Survivors are Ruth Ann Woods of Wynne; sons, Robert Dale Woods of Pennsylvania and Kevin Michael Woods of Weiner; brothers, James Woods, Mike Woods and Ricky L. Woods, all of Wynne; sister, Linda Mays of California; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held at Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday with burial in Johnson Cemetery at Wynne.

Visitation will be today in Kernodle Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Kernodle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Amy Watkins Birchell

JONESBORO -- Amy Watkins Birchell, 83, of Jonesboro died Thursday in St. Bernards Medical Center.

Mrs. Birchell was born at Jonesboro and lived most of her life in the city. She worked several years for Frolic Footwear and Grecian Steakhouse.

She was a Methodist and was active in the Jonesboro Senior Citizens Center.

She was preceded in death by three husbands.

Survivors include daughter, Camilla Barnes of Jonesboro; son, Terrel Watkins of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Terri Pickle, Stephen Watkins and Kiley Barnes, all of Jonesboro; and three great-grandchildren, Tristan Pickle, Kinsey Barnes and Jacob Barnes.

Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Hunt officiating.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-7 p.m. in Emerson Funeral Home at Jonesboro.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association Fund, in care of Shirley Coble, 2024 Old Greensboro Rd., Jonesboro 72401.

Clyde Cotton

CAVE CITY -- Clyde Cotton, 64, of Cave City died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006 in his home.

He was born May 18, 1942 at Roswell, N.M., to C.J. and Vina Weston Cotton. He was a former minister, retired farmer and of the Missionary Baptist faith.

Funeral services will begin Saturday at 2 p.m. in Qualls Funeral Home Chapel at Cave City with Grayden Milligan officiating. Burial will follow in Parsley Cemetery located east of Cave City. Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Anna Ruth Hardin

BLYTHEVILLE -- Anna Ruth Hardin, 80, of Blytheville died Friday in NEA Medical Center at Jonesboro.

She leaves her husband, Bill Hardin, of the home; children, Tony and Cora Sue Hardin of Blytheville and Paula and Maurice Manning of Cut-n-Shoot, Texas; brother, W.L. Thompson Jr. of Jonesboro; sister, Lois Goodson of Ft. Worth, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Chapel at Blytheville with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today in Cobb Funeral Home at Blytheville.

William Lantis

BAY -- William Paul "Bill" Lantis, 60, of Bay died Wednesday in NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Stockbridge, Mich., Bill moved to Jonesboro 12 years ago. He worked 40 years for Dana Corp. and Parker Hannafin as an engineer, and was a Baptist.

He served in the Michigan National Guard and was preceded in death by his father, Harold Lantis, and by a granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Jeanell Whitehead Lantis of the home; his mother, Vivian Lantis of Stockbridge, Mich.; son and his wife, William and Michelle Lantis of Stockbridge; stepson and his wife, Eddie and Donna Rouse of Heber Springs; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Debbie and Buddy Payton of Benton, Sherry and Rick Holmes of Bono, and Karen and Tony Eldridge of Bay; two brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Sally Lantis and Ralph Lantis, all of Stockbridge; sister and her husband, Barbara and Ed Hughye of Jackson, Mich.; aunt, Hazel Ullmann of San Diego; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel at Jonesboro with Larry Ward officiating. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. Sunday in Emerson Funeral Home, prior to the service.

Virgil Elmo Tackett

TRUMANN -- The Rev. Virgil Elmo Tackett, 86, of Trumann died Friday in St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

He was born at Lunsford and was a lifetime resident of Trumann. He was a retired minister, farmer and member of Church of God of Prophecy.

The Rev. Tackett was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jewell Tackett; three daughters, Verniece Lairson, Mary May and Evelyn Manley; one sister; one brother; and his parents, Ithmer John and Clara Marie Moore Tackett.

Survivors include a daughter, Beatrice Murphy of Trumann; two sons, Alvin Tackett of Weiner and Leroy Lairson of Trumann; a brother, Charles Tackett of Michigan City, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann with the Rev. Carl Winkles and the Rev. Bobby Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery at Jonesboro under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.

Pallbearers will be O'Neal Barnett, Raymond Hill Jr., Roy Lairson, Nathaniel Tackett, Troy Lairson and James Durfey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Barker, Harold Campbell, Ronnie Tackett, Richard Ray, Dickie Daniels and Michael Chavez.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. in Thompson Funeral Home.

Catherine Conway

POCAHONTAS -- Catherine Conway, 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 12.

She is survived by two sons, John Conway of Purcellville, Va., and Tim Conway of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three daughters, Bernadette Clark and Joan Lowery of Fredericksburg, Va., and Maurine VanWinkle of Pocahontas; two brothers, Larry Jansen of Pocahontas and Paul Jansen of Rockford, Ill.; four sisters, Marie Conway of Versailles, Ky., JoAnn Pfeifer of Little Rock, Frances Baltz and Dottie Ward of Pocahontas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father John Marconi officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today in McNabb Funeral Home with a rosary said at 7.

Joseph Gilbert Davis

CHEROKEE VILLAGE -- Joseph Gilbert Davis, 82, of Cherokee Village, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006.

Mr. Davis was the son of Jesse and Dixie Britt Davis.

He was a Navy veteran, serving 30 years, and received the Purple Heart for injuries during World War II. He was a member of Spring River Presbyterian Church where he married Anne Carlson Reed Nov. 2, 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Reed Davis of Cherokee Village; two stepsons, Terry and Tom Reed; and three stepgrandchildren.

Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland will announce memorial services at a later date.

Clara Louise Gammill

WHITTON -- Clara Louise Gammill, 87, died Dec. 13, 2006 in Baptist East Hospital at Memphis.

She was a school teacher and bookkeeper for Whitton Schools, secretary and treasurer of Whitton Cemetery, and treasurer and organist for Whitton Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Robert Gammill Jr. of Tyronza; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Memphis, with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Whitton Baptist Church or Whitton Cemetery Fund.

Johnny Knowlton

CHICAGO -- Johnny Knowlton, 77, died Dec. 9, 2006.

Johnny was born and raised in Phillips County.

He was currently residing in Chicago.

Survivors include his brothers, Esau Knowlton of Chicago, Larry Knowlton of Madison and Kenneth Knowlton of Jonesboro; sisters, Erma Woodard and Helen Dumas, both of Forrest City, Mary McGilvery of Hattiesburg, Miss., Lillie Bradley of McCrory, Cindy Knowlton of Sacramento, Calif., Felicia Knowlton of West Memphis, Sadonia Young, Judy Turner, Hattie Webb, Lucindia Maize, Debra Knowlton and Tina Tuberville, all of Jonesboro.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John Baptist Church at Madison with the Rev. Kenneth Moore officiating.

Burial will follow at Widener in St. John Cemetery under the direction of Woodard Funeral Service.

Visitation is 10-11 a.m. before service time.

Maggie Elizabeth Marsh

RAVENDEN -- Maggie Elizabeth "Tinny" Marsh, 63, of Ravenden, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, in Lawrence Memorial Hospital at Walnut Ridge.

Born at Grubbs, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include one brother, Jimmie Leonard of Ravenden.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James Marsh; one son, John Albert Smith; her parents, Albert and Goldie Brooks Leonard; two brothers, Robert and McArthur Leonard; and one sister, Helen McGinnis.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in Bonds Cemetery at Knobel with Don VunCannon officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.
