Gary Morris

JONESBORO -- Gary Morris, 58, of Jonesboro, died Sunday at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He had lived in Jonesboro since 1999.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Lewis and Geraldine Nelson Morris.

He is survived by his sons, Brian Morris and Jacob Morris, both of Oklahoma; his daughter, Aimee Morris-Woolsey of Alabama; his brother, Toby Morris of California; his sister, Dana Marie Morris of Arizona; and three grandchildren.

All services will be private.

Vernell Nibert

POCAHONTAS -- Vernell Nibert, 75, died Saturday.

A son, Kyle Nibert, a brother and a sister preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley Nibert Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Kimbell and Mary Nibert of Bloomington, Ind.; daughter, Kolette Hansen of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Brad Hansen, Jonathan Nibert and Ardith Johnston.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with G.W. Allison officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home.

Carl Reed

PIGGOTT -- Carl Reed, 71, of McDougal passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2007.

He was the son of the late Ralph and Norma Ora Baker Reed.

He is survived by his children, Rema, Carla, and Sandy and Dana Russell (son-in-law); grandchildren, Kristal, Jesse, Carlos, Mary and Timothy; 11 great-grandchildren; former wife, Mary Sue Reed; brothers, Nathaniel and Larry; and sisters, Norma, Juanita, Barbara and Carol.

Graveside services will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard with Johnnie Bradshaw officiating. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott will be in charge of the arrangements.

Edith Mae Schaaf

WILBER TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Edith Mae Ferguson Schaaf, age 74, of Wilber Township, Mich., died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital.

She was born on April 9, 1932, in Jonesboro. Edith attended and graduated from Bay High School.

Edith was a hairdresser for 45 years and owned and operated Bay Side Beauty Salon. She was always willing to perform her hairdressing work by going to the homes of the elderly and shut-ins when they were unable to travel out. She enjoyed gardening and loved to cook.

Edith was the first mother to give birth at the new Tawas St. Joseph Hospital in 1953. Born then was her son, Kenneth Schaaf of Wilber Township, who survives her.

She also leaves a stepson, Billy Grimes of Wilber Township; her daughter, Jyl and husband Robert Holland of Chicago; her brother, Joseph and wife Kathleen Ferguson; her sisters and brothers-in-law; Claudia and Gary Lamberson and Norma and Lavon Crawford; grandchildren, Brad and wife Mandy Schaaf and Jason Schaaf; four great-grandchildren Ivy, Sydney, Corey and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Schaaf, in 1975 and by her son, Joey Lee, in 1980.

Services were Saturday at Wilber United Methodist Church with burial in Wilber Township Cemetery. Arrangements were by Buresh-Kobs Funeral Home in Tawas City, Mich.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation.

Roger Odell Snow

NEWPORT -- Roger Odell Snow, age 54, of Newport died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born March 23, 1952, at Batesville to Calvin C. and Vernia Mae Felts Snow.

Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. in First Assembly of God at Cave City with the Rev. Alan Ford and the Rev. Allen Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Maxville Cemetery, located north of Cave City, with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Agnes Hess Sorce

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. -- Agnes Hess Sorce, 71, died Feb. 10, 2007, at her home in Germantown, Tenn., surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Sorce, a graduate of Holy Angels Academy in Jonesboro, was a devout communicant of St. Louis Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir, past secretary for St. Louis School and past president of Madonna Circle.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert L. Sorce; sons, Capt. Buz Sorce, U.S. Navy, and Paul Sorce of Jackson, Tenn.; daughters, Ann Goodwin and Christi Benben, both of St. Louis; sisters, Clara Hylle, Margaret Boeckmann, Rose Long, Betty Buergler, Dorothy Dettlinger and Ruth Wilson; brothers, Albert, Gilbert, Paul, Ray, Bobby and Billy Hess; and her grandchildren, J.C. and Malia Sorce, Sam, Paul, David, Stephanie and Betty Goodwin, Jack, Molly and McKenzie Sorce, and Hanna, Kevin, John, Simon and Dominic Benben.

Services will be this morning at 10 at St. Louis Catholic Church with burial to follow in All Saints Cemetery with arrangements by Memphis Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to St. Louis Catholic Church, 203 South White Station, Memphis 38117.

Darrell Gene Stewart

OWATONNA, Minn. -- Darrell Gene Stewart, 73, of Owatonna, Minn., formerly of Jonesboro, died on Feb. 10, 2007, at the Homestead Hospice House.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Jean Stewart of Owatonna; his daughters and spouses, Gail and Dave Nicholson of Astley, England, Kathryn and Joe Coulter of Lockesburg, Nina and Eric Sellner of Owatonna, and Margaret and Jeff Ozbun of Dothan, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two sisters and spouses, Sarah and Del Carmean of West Burlington, Iowa, and Mary Lou and Don Hamilton of Ottumwa, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Owatonna. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Michaelson Funeral Home (507-451-7943) is in charge.

Loren Dean Straub

PARAGOULD -- Loren Dean Straub, of Southaven, Miss., 63, died Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis of a rare lung disease.

Dean was a born-again Christian and was retired from Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor and switchman.

He leaves his wife of almost 46 years, Sandra Straub of Southaven; four brothers, Joe Straub, Connie Ray Straub and Mike Straub, all of Paragould and Jerry Stairs of Lebanon, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman E. and Estalee Marie Liddell Straub.

The family will receive friends this evening at Heath Funeral Home from 6-8.

His life will be celebrated Wednesday at

10 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Laramie LeQue and the Rev. Conway Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery at Lafe.

Pallbearers are his close friends from his railroad work -- Joe Odom, Marcel Rouse, Frank Rouse, Jimmie Rouse, David Sefers, Stee Evans, Randy Smith and Steve Gatlin.

Memorials may be sent to a lung research laboratory.

Mary LaVerne Todd

GIBSON, Mo. -- Mary "Mert" LaVerne Todd, 81, of Gibson, Mo., died Saturday.

Survivors include her children, George Dean Todd of Gibson, Thomas Todd of Campbell, Mo., Dr. Mary Jane Bradley of Jonesboro, Susan Stubblefield and Brenda Martin, both of Bartlett, Tenn., and Michael Wakefield of New Orleans; a sister, Evelyn Ellington of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Deana Lucas, Allen Todd, Jason and Jessica Bradley, Gary Stubblefield, Melasond Sandusky and Rachael Martin; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be this afternoon at 2 at Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell with burial in Dunklin County Memorial Gardens.

Fayon Wafler

MEMPHIS -- Mrs. Fayon Wafler, 80, of Memphis and a former longtime resident of Blytheville, died Sunday in Memphis.

She was a homemaker and member of First Christian Church in Blytheville.

She leaves her son, Porter Wafler, and his wife Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Olivia Wafler, all of Memphis.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Blytheville with a luncheon reception immediately following the service.

No visitation will be held, and burial will be private.

Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville is in charge of arrangements.

Byron R. Blair

JONESBORO -- Byron R. Blair, 79, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born in Denver and moved to Jonesboro in 1963, coming from Pocahontas. He was a volunteer with the National Park Service for 16 years at Grand Teton National Forest and was an active environmentalist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Lela Blair, and two sisters, Geraldine Kennedy and Beverly Calone.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Blair; his son, David Blair and wife Renee of Jonesboro; two daughters, Susan Blair of Jonesboro and Margaret Dominy and her husband Steve of Dallas; also surviving are five grandchildren.

All services will be private, and for those wishing to leave lasting memorials, the family requests you please consider St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis 38105.
