William Cloys Maddox

June 10, 1943-Dec. 21, 2007

LEPANTO — William Cloys Maddox, 64, of Lepanto died Friday at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Born at Gideon, Mo., he was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlisle Maddox and Maybell White; two brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Maddox; four daughters; one son; three sisters; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. in Etowah Pentecostal Church of God with Huey Mcherg officiating. Burial will be in Potter Cemetery at Lepanto.

Visitation was held Saturday.

Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola.

Kellie Robyn Mealer

PARAGOULD — Kellie Robyn Mealer, 29, of Paragould died Friday, Dec. 21, at UAMS at Little Rock.

She was born March 11, 1978, at Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Crystal Rose Mealer; and her grandparents, Elbert and Myrtle Clayton and Claude and Dorothy Mealer.

She is survived by her parents, Larry and Sheila Mealer; sister, Faith Bass, all of Paragould; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated today at 3 p.m. in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Ruby Florence England

March 22, 1922 - May 4, 2007

OSCEOLA -- Ruby Florence England, 85, of Osceola died Friday in Methodist Germantown Hospital at Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Woodrow England; and her parents, Joe and Ella Rose Hodge.

Survivors include daughters, Ann Bumpus, Rosa Holt, Ruby O'Barr and Marilyn Sanders; sons, Leslie England, Cornelius England, James England, Billy Joe England, Bryan England, Brad England and Kerry Don England; 43 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola with burial in Bassett Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in the funeral home.

Billie Randle Finley

PARAGOULD -- Billie Randle Finley (Big Jim) went to be with his beloved wife, Rosetta, on Friday, May 4, 2007.

He had lived in Paragould for the last 27 years since retiring from the Chevrolet Truck Division of General Motors in Flint, Mich.

He leaves four children behind to mourn and rejoice in his life, Helen Tarro, Billie Randle Jr. and wife Laura Finley, Yvonna and husband Joe Lunkas, and Rosemary and husband Chuck Evans. He and Rosetta also leave 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Both left a legacy of love, respect and caring for each other.

Dad was born Sept. 18, 1922, at Monette to Buffalo Bill Finley and Mary Ethel Forrester Finley, a woman of the Cherokee Nation. He was preceded in death by a much-loved sister, Uneeda Finley; a much-loved brother, Riley Finley; and two stepbrothers whom he loved very much, Clevern and Bill Rodgers. His much-loved wife and soulmate of 59 years left him on Dec. 3, 2006.

After raising their four children, and Dad started his retirement, they loved spending time at their home on Campground Road, Mom working in her flower beds and Dad in his "office" under the big tree in their backyard.

The Finleys had terrific friends on Campground Road. Special friends who looked after them were Richard, Liz and Courtney Martin; Waymon, Joy and Elaine Huckabee; and Shannon and Steve, their next-door neighbors.

Special thanks to Dr. Noel and Erin. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to St. Bernards Hospice. The family gives a special thanks to Debbie and Crystal of the Hospice.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Chief Walking Bear of the Western Cherokee Nation officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 6-9 p.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home.

Jessie James Hunter

POCAHONTAS -- Jessie James Hunter, 97, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Randolph County Nursing Home.

He was born April 2, 1910, in Warm Springs to the late William Henry and Sina Arbelle "Bellah" Hunter.

Mr. Hunter was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Looney Hunter; one sister, Cora A. Hunter; and four brothers, Ervin Levi Hunter, John Tillman Hunter, Willie Carter Hunter and F.M. Hunter.

Survivors include two daughters, Gwendolyn Schratz and Christine Riggs, both of Pocahontas; four grandsons, David Schratz of Jonesboro, Michael Riggs of Hancock, Maine, Patrick Riggs of Katy, Texas, and Herbert Riggs of Arlington, Va.; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Don Strait officiating. Interment will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. in McNabb Funeral Home.

Howard D. Lassiter

JACKSONPORT -- Howard D. Lassiter of Jacksonport died Friday, May 4.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Callhoun Lassiter.

He is survived by his father, Charles Gus Lassiter of Newport; one son, David Cook of Estill Springs, Tenn.; two daughters, Leann Holifield of St. Louis and Edie Lassiter of Estill Springs; two brothers, Phillip Lassiter of Newport and Larry Lassiter of Cabot; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Dillinger Chapel. There will be no visitation.

Norman Lehmann

CAVE CITY -- Norman Victor Lehmann, age 80, of Cave City died Friday, May 4.

A memorial service will be held in Peace Lutheran Church at Cherokee Village on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Pummell officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Gillett at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gillett or Dark Corner Christian Church in Dumas.

Arrangements are being handled by Heath Funeral Home of Highland.

Jack Melton

MELBOURNE -- Jack Melton, 91, of Melbourne died Friday, May 4, 2007, in Piggott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tiford and Ida Melton; one son, Harold; and one daughter, Ruth Floyd.

He is survived by four grandchildren, Terry Goff, Michael Melton, Randy Floyd and Kathy Floyd; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Graveside services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. in New Hope Cemetery at Pollard. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Viewing will be held today at 6 p.m.

Carl Eugene Smith

TYRONZA -- Carl Eugene Smith, 72, of Tyronza passed away Friday, May 4, 2007, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Mr. Smith was a member of Sneed Street Baptist Church in Marked Tree.

The visitation for Mr. Smith will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home at West Memphis.

Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with interment following in Tyronza Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Smith of Tyronza; two daughters, Martha Emerick of Tyronza and Peggy Jones of West Memphis; two sons, Edward "Pete" Smith of Searcy and Paul Smith of Black Oak; two brothers, Bobby Smith of Tyronza and Ted Smith of Trumann; one sister, Sarah Smith of Tyronza; and six grandchildren.

Bessie Lee Watson

BAY -- Bessie Lee Watson, 92, of Bay died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Guy, she lived in Bay most of her life.

She was a member of Bay United Methodist Church where she taught a children's Sunday school class and vacation Bible school for many years. She was also a member and former president of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She loved to quilt and read, and her love of flowers and gardening led her to be a member of the Bay Garden Club. She retired from Sears where she worked in their alteration department.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Maggie Bell; one son, Charles Watson; two sisters, Viola Hundley and Edna Powell; and one brother, Albert Bell.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Watson of the home; one son, Ed Watson of Jonesboro; two daughters, Peggy Pugh Aker of Jonesboro and Linda Chaffin of Paragould; one brother, Carroll Bell of Norfolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Bay United Methodist Church with the Rev. Angela Gage and a grandson, the Rev. Eddie Watson Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be held today from 5-7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Chuck Scallions, Steve Pugh, Bryan Pugh, Shawn Morris, Barry Cothern and Oliver Hinds, and as honorary pallbearers, Bob Turman, Lew Brinkley and Gary Lamberson.

The family requests lasting memorials be sent to Bay United Methodist Church.
