Tommy T. Chambers

WYNNE — Mr. Tommy Chambers, 73, of Wynne passed away Friday at home.

Mr. Chambers was a member of Wynne Church of Christ. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his brothers, Hugh D. Chambers Jr. and Willie D. Chambers, both of Wynne.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cogbill Cemetery.

Marvin Lee Holland

CORNING — Marvin Lee Holland, 71, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, in Jonesboro.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Holland of the home; his mother, Thelma Dary of Bakersfield, Calif.; one son, Terry Holland of Success; one daughter, Debbie Sells of Portageville, Mo.; one stepson, David Edington of Biggers; one stepdaughter, Kim Edington of Biggers; one sister, Sue Leach of Corning; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Burial will be at Corning Cemetery.

Barbara Ann Lamb

WYNNE — Barbara Ann Lamb, 67, of Wynne died Wednesday, Aug. 15, at CrossRidge Hospital.

She was born March 13, 1940, in Forrest City, the daughter of Casey and Thelma Jarmon Horton.

Survivors include her sons, James Lamb, Ronald Lamb and Craig Lamb, all of Wynne; daughter, Lisa Fecho of Wynne; brother, Ronald Horton; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Barbara Jean Lamb; and sister, Patsy Mathews.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home, Wynne Chapel, with interment in Harris Chapel Cemetery.

Kenneth L. Lorance

JONESBORO — Kenneth L. Lorance, 80, of Jonesboro died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Skillcare Nursing Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and have been entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Michael Malachi Murphy

MEMPHIS — Michael Murphy, 27, died Aug. 8 at home in Memphis.

He was born in Wilmington, N.C., and lived in Lepanto before moving to Memphis. He was of the Pentecostal belief.

Michael is survived by his father, Leon M. Murphy, and his brother, James Thomas Murphy, both of Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was cremated and a memorial service will be announced by the family at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Woodard Funeral Service of Marked Tree.

Juanita Nicholson

CHERRY VALLEY — Juanita Nicholson, 89, of Cherry Valley departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne.

She was born March 10, 1918, in Gillett, the daughter of Charles and Anna Chambers Purcell.

Mrs. Nicholson was a graduate of Gillett High School and happily married to Mr. Prentiss Nicholson for 62 years. She was a faithful and active member of Wynne Baptist Church, involved in Keenagers, Women on Mission and Agape Sunday School class. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club of Hickory Ridge. She enjoyed watching TV and traveling.

Survivors include her son, William “Bill” Nicholson Jr. and wife Charlene of Cherry Valley; daughter, Patricia Elkins and husband Tommy of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, William Nicholson III and wife Leigh of Jonesboro, Carla Spencer and husband Terrell of Fayetteville, Charles Nicholson of Sherwood, Jean Rich and husband Phil of New Braunfels, Texas, Dawn Elkins of Ames, Iowa, and Christopher Elkins of Beebe; three great-grandchildren, William Prentiss Nicholson IV, Morgan Ryliegh Nicholson and “Baby” Spencer, due in March, of Jonesboro; sisters-in-law, Dorothea Purcell of Fredricksburg, Va., and Edith Nicholson of Brinkley, brother-in-law, Bobby Nicholson of Clarendon; niece, Dee Pessaud; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentiss Nicholson, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. in Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home, Wynne Chapel. Interment will be in Cogbill Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday at the funeral home.

Velma Katherine Trafford

LEESBURG, Va. — Funeral services for 92-year-old Velma Trafford, formerly of Piggott, who died at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Leesburg, will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with the Rev. Charles Cooper officiating.

Visitation is scheduled at 3 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow in Piggott Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two brothers, two sisters and many other relatives and friends.

Mike Turney

SANTA FE, N.M. — Mike Turney, 53, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away on Aug. 15, 2007, in Santa Fe.

He was a finance manager for Beaver Toyota. He was a member of Zia Methodist Church, an avid reader, a St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved to golf.

He is survived by his wife, Abby Turney of the home; three sons, Michieal Turney, Matthew Turney and his wife Brandy and Christian Turney, all of Lufkin, Texas; five brothers, Johnny Turney, Jim Turney, Joe Turney and Lomer Turney, all of Jonesboro, and Larry Turney of Enterprise, Ala.; and three grandchildren, Austin Turney, Preslie Havard and Mya Turney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lomer and Ruby Jewel Turney.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Willard officiating. Burial will follow in McDaniel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will include Bob Wright, Glenn Cobb, Jim Vinson, Dr. Nathan Turney, Paul Turney and Lomer Gene Turney. His brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held tonight, 5-8, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Ila M. Tyler

POCAHONTAS — Ila M. Tyler, 88, of Pocahontas died Friday, Aug. 17.

Survivors include her daughters, Nina Tyler and Reva Haley, both of Maynard, Elaine Songer of Mims, Fla., and Cleva Dubar of Kennett, Mo.; sons, J.L. Tyler of West Plains, Mo., and Bobby Tyler of St. Charles, Mo.; sisters, Lois Jacobs of St. Louis and Retha Brownfiel of Corning; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Richwoods Cemetery at Corning under the direction of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. before services at the funeral home.

William Gene Carr

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — William Gene Carr, 78, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church, 6700 Northwest 72nd St., Platte Woods, Mo.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Committal will follow in Christ Lutheran Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Christ Lutheran Church or St. Luke’s Hospice.

William graduated from Jonesboro High School and attended Arkansas State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

William was employed by TWA as a pilot for 30 years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and was their director of elders for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Faye Dunton-Carr; and his son, Capt. Ron Carr.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Martha Tull Carr; two daughters, Patty Waters of Omaha, Neb., and Diana Carr-Trumble of Kansas City; his brother, Joe A. Carr of Austin, Texas; half brother, Larry Carr of Dallas; and six grandchildren.

Howard L. Fincher Jr.

WILSON — Howard L. Fincher Jr., 81, of Wilson died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, in Wilson.

Born Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1926, in Bodcaw to the late Howard Lee Fincher Sr. and Velma Ivy Lee Fincher, he was a member of Osceola Church of Christ, a Navy WW II veteran and retired farmer.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Osceola Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Potters Cemetery at Lepanto with David Sweet officiating.

Visitation will be from 6–8 p.m. Saturday in Roller-Swift Funeral Home.
