Donna J. Arnold
WILLIFORD — Mrs. Vernon (Donna J.) Arnold, formerly of Carbon Hill, passed away peacefully in her home in Arkansas on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007.
Donna was born Feb. 15, 1943, at Bloomington, Ill., to Marjorie and Dominic Ferrara. She married Vernon L. Arnold on March 25, 1961, at Carmi, Ill.
Donna is survived by her husband; a daughter, Dee Dee (Jerry) Haff of Kinsman, Ill.; a son, Brian (Stephanie) Arnold of Corning; 12 grandchildren, Heather (David) Mitchell, Anthony, Chris, Robert, Thomas, Lindsay, Zach and Danielle Arnold, all of Arkansas, Salli (Richard) Bowen of Missouri, and Jerry (Connie) Haff, Marseilles, Randy (fiancee Crystal) and Becki (John) Matlock, all of Coal City; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Also surviving are her parents; a sister, Renee (Roger Haake) Bannon; brothers, Richard (Beth) Ferrara, Dana (Rhonda) Ferrara and Dale (Carla) Ferrara and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin, in infancy; a sister, Eva Lindemuth; and her grandparents.
Donna loved to quilt, sew and spend time with her grandchildren. Donations can be made to the donor’s choice. She will be laid to rest in Illinois.
Her family would like to express thanks to Sharp County Home Health Care nurses, Hospice, doctors and staff on the fourth floor of St. Bernards Medical Center and their neighbors for all the support given to her.
Agnes Velores Barber
JONESBORO — Agnes Velores Barber, 87, of Jonesboro joined her Heavenly family on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007.
Born at Salado in Independence County, Mrs. Barber lived much of her life in Craighead County.
She and her husband operated a grocery store and cafe at Lunsford in the 1950s. She worked several years as a sales associate for J.C. Penney at Jonesboro before her retirement.
She was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church where she was a member of Fidelis II Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Barber; a son, Jim Barber; and a daughter, Jan McKinney.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Norris Watkins of Jonesboro; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Barber of Lake City; one son-in-law, Doyle McKinney of Walnut Ridge; eight grandchildren, David McKinney, Traci Smith and Robyn Beavers, all of Jonesboro, Blake Barber of Lake City, Scott Watkins of Salem, and Bart Barber, Ashley Warrick and Karen Underwood, all of Texas; 17 great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 in Emerson Memorial Chapel at Jonesboro with Bart Barber and David McKinney officiating.
A committal service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 in Egner Cemetery
near Salado with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.
Grandsons are honored to serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10-11 in Emerson Funeral Home Chapel.
For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Freddie Mae Broadaway
MENA — Freddie Mae Broadaway, 82, of Mena passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at Mena Regional Health Center.
She was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Philadelphia, Miss., to W.A. and Lena Daws Echols. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Broadaway on Feb. 28, 1941, in Trumann.
She was a homemaker, owned a fabric-sewing center in Trumann and Jonesboro, and was employed in Harrisburg at American Greetings Card Company. She lived in Trumann, Blytheville, Marked Tree and Jonesboro before moving to Mena in February 2004.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Jo and Dr. Wally Liles of Mena and Van Buren; grandchildren, Kerri Liles Moehlenpah and husband Sam of San Diego, Calif., Ashlea Liles Ison and husband John of North Little Rock, Wally Liles III and wife Sarah of Marion and Kenny Liles of San Diego; and great-grandchildren, Joshlyn Kate and Atalie Anne Moehlenpah of San Diego and Conner Wallace Ison of North Little Rock. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, W.A. and Nettie Bee Echols of Lake City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Broadaway; her daughter, Mary Frances Broadaway; three sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services are under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Visitation was Monday at the funeral home.
The service will be in Calvary Pentecostal Church at Jonesboro today, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Chance and Kenny Liles officiating. Interment will follow in Nettleton Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gary Allen, Greg Anderson, Lynn Childers, Scott Flemon, Fred Parker and Charles Weathers, and as honorary pallbearers, John Ison, Kenny Liles, Walley Liles III and Sam Moehlenpah.
Michael David Burton
RECTOR — Michael Burton, 28, of Rector died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, in a car accident on Highway 90 outside of Rector.
He was born March 22, 1979, to Mickey and Mary Burton. He worked as an extrusion operator at Anchor Packaging.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ebert Burton and James Morgan.
He is survived by his parents, Mickey and Mary Burton; his fiancee, Shalon Owen and her children, Devon and Madison, all of Paragould; one brother, Mickey Burton of Rector; grandmothers, Pat Burton of Paragould and Maxine Morgan of Piggott; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Irby Funeral Home at Rector with Mike Book officiating. Interment will be in Rock Springs at Knob.
Visitation will be tonight from 6-9 in the funeral home.
Judith Ann DeRoeck
AUSTIN, Texas — Judith Ann McAdams DeRoeck, 66, of Austin passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007.
She was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Jonesboro to Herbert H. McAdams II and Ruth Noyes McAdams (Hobbs).
She is survived by her husband, Walter A. DeRoeck; two daughters and their husbands, Kathryn DeRoeck and Patrick Hale Boykin and Melinda DeRoeck and Ross Adam Young; a son and his wife, Walter Brian and Carolyn Devitt DeRoeck; a brother, H. Hall III and Letty McAdams; two sisters, Sandra and Robert Connor and Penny and Dr. Timothy Hodges; and seven grandchildren, Taylor Ann Boykin, Patrick Chase Boykin, Zachary Adam Young, Dylan Ross Young, Joshua Walter Young, Jackson Hall DeRoeck and Robert Grant DeRoeck.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Sept. 17 in Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohmans Crossing, at Lakeway with the Rev. Jayme Mathias officiating.
In the spirit of Judy’s love for children, the family asks that, in lieu of food or flowers, donations be made to a children’s charity of individual choice.
On Judy’s birthday, Dec. 28, masses will be dedicated at various Catholic churches in Austin and Arkansas.

WEST MEMPHIS — Elizabeth Dority, 83, of West Memphis died Sunday at Crittenden Memorial Hospital.
Born at Memphis, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Dority; and her parents, Jimmy and Sara Polk.
Survivors include her children, Mary Whitfield of Joiner, Rosemary Perry and Milton Dority, both of West Memphis, and Jerry Dority of Marion; sister, Johnnie Mae Turner of West Memphis; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church at Frenchman’s Bayou with burial in First Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home at Osceola.
Willie Bolt Hill
JONESBORO — Willie Bolt Hill, 81, of Jonesboro died Monday at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home.
Zell Henry Jaynes
TRUMANN — Mr. Zell Henry Jaynes, 85, of Trumann died Sunday, Sept. 23, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Mr. Jaynes was born in Trumann and had lived his lifetime in Trumann. He was a retired businessman and land developer who throughout his life farmed, owned and operated businesses including the Maxie Theatre in Trumann and Avon Theatre in West Memphis.
He was a cattle rancher and sold grain bins. He was a 50-year member of Trumann Masonic Lodge 693 where he served as Master Mason. Mr. Jaynes was the 1985 Arkansas State Senior Pool Champion, an airplane pilot and loved to hunt, read and play pool. Mr. Jaynes was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Columbus and Alice May Jaynes; one sister; and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Marcelyn “Marcie” Jaynes of the home; three sons, Fred and wife Bonnie Jaynes of Trumann, Dennis and wife Regina Jaynes and John and wife Tammy Jaynes, all of Jonesboro; one daughter, Karen Soward of Trumann; four grandchildren, John P. Soward, Zachary Jaynes and wife Jennifer, Colton Jaynes and Darbi Jaynes; and two great-grandchildren, Haley Noll and Preston Zell Jaynes.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann with the Rev. Kenny Guy McMahan officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Jiles Pagan, Lloyd Pagan, Bobby Benson, Lester Bradford, Laroy McCann and Brent Baker.
Honorary pallbearers will include Donnie Taylor, Luther Blagg, Gaylon Bridges and David Dowdy.
Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 in Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trumann Public Library or Eastside Baptist Church at Trumann.
