Fran Heath

NEWPORT — Fran Heath, 70, of Newport died Saturday, Sept. 29.

She is survived by one brother, Kenneth Heath of Searcy; six sisters, Berniece Horton of Ash Flat, Beatrice Tulledge of Mishaka, Ind., Deane Fortenberry of Newport, Kathy Williams of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Barbara Williams of Batesville and Linda Brinsfield of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Llano Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Gracelawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8.

Arrangements by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Donald Wayman Maple

BROOKLAND — Donald Wayman Maple, 59, of Brookland died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 29, at his home.

He had lived in the Jonesboro area most of his life. He was a member of Brookland Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debra Maple; his son, Anthony Maple of O’Kean; daughter, Angie
Peterson of Jonesboro; brothers, Glen Maple of Light and Leonard Maple of O’Kean; sisters, Peggy Whitlow of Black Rock, Dottie Gossett of Jonesboro and JoAnn Miller of Light; and his grandchildren, Tyler Knell, Tanner Maple, Lillian Maple, Lauren Knell, Anna Claire Maple, Laci Peterson and Caleb Maple.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Lida McCarty Maple; and brothers, Bob Maple, Alvin Maple and William Maple.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Lorado Cemetery with Richard Williams officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Jones, Sonny Crain, Barry Fielder, Jason Lamb, Eddie Tate and Buddy Ivy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Miller, Jim Miller, Buck Bounds and Ronnie Bounds.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-7 in the funeral home.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the American Cancer Society, 1205 South Madison St., Jonesboro 72401, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis 38105.

LaQuetta Joyce Miller

MONETTE — LaQuetta Joyce Miller, 55, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Monette Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and have been entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Lela Miller

SEDGWICK — Lela Miller, 103, of Sedgwick departed this life Friday evening at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Higginbotham Funeral Service in Walnut Ridge.

Shirley Jean Sension

HIGHLAND — Shirley Jean Sension, 53, of Highland died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem.

Shirley was born on Aug. 9, 1954, in Alabama, the daughter of Grady Barnes and Dorothy Gandy. She moved to Arkansas with her family eight years ago from Michigan.

She had worked in the agricultural industry for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Harry John Sension of the home; mother, Dorothy Gandy of Alabama; father, Grady Barnes of Florida; two daughters, Sherri Cervantes of Highland and Sheila Donovan of Melbourne; three brothers, Johnny Barnes, Marshall Barnes and John Gandy, all of Alabama; two sisters, Betty Butler of Alabama and Kathy King of Florida; four grandchilden, Michael Cervantes, Kortini Cervantes, Madison Donovan and Nathaniel Donovan; and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. in Tri-County Funeral Home at Highland.

There will be no funeral services.

Jimmy Lee Cantrell

HARRISBURG — Jimmy Lee Cantrell of Harrisburg departed this life Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at his home at the age of 45.

He was born Oct. 16, 1961, at Selfridge Air Force Base in Mount Clements, Mich., the son of Jim Cantrell and Helen Hall Cantrell. Jimmy married Melissa Laden on May 7, 1984, and they enjoyed 23 years together.

He was a truck driver for LTD Air Cargo for several years and had also worked at Ben Edwards Furniture, American Greetings and Doric Vault Co. He was member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Harrisburg and loved music and old western movies.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa of the home; three sons, Eric Holt, Harold Cantrell and Buddy Lee Cantrell, all of Harrisburg; his father, Jim Cantrell of Harrisburg; mother, Helen Cantrell of Harrisburg; a sister, Terri Cantrell of Harrisburg; and a grandson, Derrick Holt of Harrisburg.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Weston Funeral Service Chapel at Harrisburg. Interment will follow in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Morgan, Kevin Lacy, Chad Laden, Jamie McDaniel, Eric Holt, Terry Pierce and David Norman.

Friends may visit at the funeral home this evening from 5-8.

Darrell Wayne Childress

PARAGOULD — Darrell Wayne Childress, 67, of Paragould died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007.

He was born on April 23, 1940.

Visitation will be this evening from 5:30 to 8 in Phillips Funeral Home at Paragould.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Phillips Funeral Home Center Hill Chapel at Paragould with Royce Boling, Jim Fowler and Mayor Mike Glaskill officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Thelma Pauline Gregson

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Thelma Pauline Gregson, 86, of Crystal Manor in Grand Rapids went to be with the Lord Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007.

She was born July 28, 1921, in Jonesboro to O.O. and Myrtle Burdyshaw Gibson. She married Roy L. Gregson June 21, 1941, and moved to the Flint area in 1943.

They were charter members of Cornerstone Baptist Church (Eastside Unity Missionary Baptist Church), where her father-in-law, M.N. (Gertrude) Gregson, was a former pastor. Pauline had a great zest for life that made her fun to be with. She loved her Lord, her family and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy in 1985; and two brothers, William and Kenneth Gibson, both of Arkansas.

She is survived by two children, Carolyn Gerhard (Rick) of Grand Rapids, Richard Gregson (Janie) of Sebewaing, Mich.; four grandchildren, Michael Brownley of Canton, Mich., Doug Brownley (Leigh) of Byron Center, Mich., Debra Parker of Gainesville, Ga., Russ Gregson (Stacie) of Smyrna, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Madelaine and Jack Brownley, Kyle Brownley, Kaleigh and Noah Gregson; sister, Mary Atkinson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Gibson and Susie Gibson; several nieces and nephews, all of Jonesboro.

Also surviving are stepgrandchildren, Alison Preisel, Vicky Tucker (Chip) and Scott Gerhard (Ryan Mathews); and stepgreat-grandchildren, Molly and Megan, Cristi and Brooke.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Macedonia Baptist Church with Jerry Jolly officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Spectrum Hospice, 4500 Breton Road Southeast, Grand Rapids, 49508, or Crystal Manor, 1171 68th St. Southeast, Grand Rapids, 49508.

Lowell E. Herren

PARAGOULD — Lowell E. “Tut” Herren, 83, of Paragould, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at his home.

He was a veteran of World War II and retired from K&M Auto Machine Co. in 1983. Mr. Herren was a member of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alpha and Rutha Miles Herren, and wives, Ruby Herren and Geraline Herren.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Paula Herren of Paragould, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Mike Coy of Jonesboro and Beverly and Jackie McMillon of Paragould.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Anthony Coy, Carol Ann Carter, Bradley Herren, Chad McMillon and Denise Wilhite; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon Coy, Madison Coy, Holly Carter, Jon Carter, and Carson McMillon.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-9 in Mitchell Funeral Home at Paragould.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Larry McFadden and Art Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Anthony Coy, Bradley Herren, Chad McMillon, Scotty Wilhite, Jeff Carter and Chris Camp.

Honorary pallbearers will include David Cooper, Charles Noel, Duane Towell, Bill McCreless, William Jackson, Ted Miller, Ted Coker and Gene Wood.

For lasting memorials, please consider St. Bernards Hospice.

Joe Wayne Holt

BLYTHEVILLE — Joe Wayne Holt, 61, a longtime resident of Blytheville, died Friday at his home.

He leaves daughters, Mary Lovelady and Jodi Atteberry, both of Jonesboro, Samantha Barnes of Fort Hood, Texas, and Robin Ramirez of Dyersburg, Tenn.; sons, George “Billy” Gentry of Blytheville, Charles Gentry of Harrison and Bobby Holt of Chicago; brothers, James Holt of Mount Vernon, Robert Holt of Gosnell and Jimmy Holt of Blytheville; sister, Mildred Williams of Blytheville; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. in Cobb Funeral Home at Blytheville with burial following in Dogwood Cemetery.

Betty Carolyn Lewis

POCAHONTAS — Betty Carolyn Lewis, 72, died Sunday in Doctors’ Hospital at Little Rock.

Her father, Alvin G. Slayton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Gene Lewis; a son, Ronald Lewis of Pocahontas; a daughter, Judy Mathis of Corning; her mother, Inis Slayton of Pocahontas; a brother, A. G. Slayton of Ponpe Verda Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen cremation.
