Alma Hamby

MEMPHIS — Mrs. Alma Hamby, 97, of Memphis, a former longtime resident of Blytheville, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, in Bright Glade Convalescent Center at Memphis.

She leaves her daughter, Patricia Hamby Jansen of Cordova, Tenn.; her son, Frank J. Hamby of Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Blytheville with Joseph Pallo officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday in Cobb Funeral Home at Blytheville.

Jackie G. Henderson

PARAGOULD — Jackie G. Henderson, 42, of Paragould died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007.

He was born June 17, 1965, in Magnolia. He was a longtime Paragould resident and an owner of Brittny’s Steakhouse and Lounge. He attended Peace Tabernacle Apostolic Church.

Survivors include his loving companion, Willis Hooks; daughter, Brittny Hooks of the home; and mother, Marcelle Almond of Magnolia.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Phillips Funeral Home Chapel at Paragould with the Rev. Bill Snow officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bethel Cemetery at Finch community.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-9 in the funeral home.

Willa Howard

JONESBORO — Willa R. Howard, 93, of Jonesboro died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Skilcare Nursing Center.

She was born at Paul’s Switch and had lived in Jonesboro since 1995, moving here from Alexandria, Va. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a volunteer for NEA Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Howard; two brothers, Woodrow Barnes and Samuel F. Barnes Jr.; and three sisters.

She is survived by one sister, Isabel Wilfert of Jonesboro; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Miles officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private.

For those wishing to leave lasting memorials, the family requests you please consider the American Cancer Society, 1205 South Madison St., Jonesboro 72401.

Joyce Lee Hulse

POCAHONTAS — Joyce Lee Hulse, 66, died Monday, Oct. 1.

Her parents, Clarence and Jennie Hulse; a brother, Herman; and a sister, Barbara Sorg, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two brothers, Weldon Hulse of Valparaiso, Ind., and Dean Hulse of Ravenden; a sister, Wilma Ungerank of Pocahontas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 Saturday morning in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Ron Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-7:30 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Melba Jarratt

BLYTHEVILLE — Mrs. Melba Edith Alexander Cobb Jarratt, 90, of Blytheville died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

She leaves her daughter and son, Jeanette Eatmon and Charles Ronald Cobb, both of Blytheville; three grandchildren, Stephanie Baker of Oklahoma City, Charles Alex Cobb of Cooter, Mo., and C.J. Cobb of Vilonia; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Cobb Funeral Home at Blytheville with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 7-9 tonight in the funeral home.

Mabel McGowen

JONESBORO — Mabel V. McGowen, 81, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Oct. 3, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Stoddard County, Mo., Mrs. McGowen lived in Malden before moving to Jonesboro in 1984. She worked several years for DuKane Corp. and was a member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

Mrs. McGowen was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence H. McGowen; her parents, Everett and Minnie Kelley Boone; a son, Jimmy Hartford; two sisters, Louise Barnes and Joyce Massingill; and one brother, Bill Nunn.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Lowell King, Nancy and Butch Perry and Jeanie and Burnis Glasco, all of Jonesboro, and Theresa McGowen of Cortland, Ill.; one sister, Thelma Crabtree of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-8 in Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 in Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel at Bernie, Mo., with Elvis Brandon officiating. Burial will follow in Bernie Cemetery under the direction of Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home at Bernie.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to Valley View Missionary Baptist Church, 5924 Southwest Drive, Jonesboro 72404.

Charles Stacy Moore

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Charles Stacy Moore, 43, of Southaven died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007.

Survivors include his son, Benjamin Stacy Moore of Southaven; daughters, Amanda and Mary Moore, both of Southaven; sisters, Jean McCain of Gallaway, Tenn., Francis Waldrop of Olive Branch, Miss., Patricia Smothers of Southaven and Brenda Nelson of Horn Lake, Miss.; and brothers, Jimmy Moore Jr. of Southaven, Robert Moore of Memphis and Paul Moore of Wynne.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Woodard Funeral Service Chapel at Wynne with burial in Vanndale Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Lewis Gene Payne

Sept. 2, 1937 - Sept. 27, 2007

CHATHAM, Ill. — Lewis Gene Payne, 70, of Chatham died Thursday at his home.

He was born at Blytheville to the late Claude and Ruby Dora Davis Payne. He retired as a chief warrant officer from the National Guard after 40 years.

Survivors include his sons, Jeff and Chris; brothers, Wayne and Larry; and sisters, Linda Wagner and Sheree Werner.

Visitation will be from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. Friday in Staab Polk Memorial Home at Chatham with burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery at Springfield, Ill.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House.

Bessie Mae Pulliam

April 10, 1917 - Oct. 2, 2007

OSCEOLA — Bessie Mae Pulliam, 90, of Osceola died Tuesday.

Survivors include her sons, Fred Wiggins Jr. of St. Louis and Calvin Wayne Wiggins of Osceola; and two grandchildren, Fred Wiggins III of St. Louis and Reshun Nicole Wiggins of Luxora.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Wiggins and Alfred Pulliam; two infant daughters; parents; George and Bessie Dickerson; six sisters; and six brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Tabernacle M.B. Church at Osceola with burial in Whiteside Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. in Wilson Funeral Home.

Jimie Lee Rose

Aug. 28, 1941 - Sept. 29, 2007

CORNING — Jimie Lee Rose, 66, died on Saturday at the University of Arkansas Medical Center.

Born at Corning, he was preceded in death by his father, Cleatus M. Rose.

Suvivors include his son, Farar White Rose; brother, Walter Rose; mother, Ida-vonne Rosa; aunt and uncle, Harold and Billy Joe Tatum; aunt, Sammy Denhoff; uncles, Jack and Ira Taylor; and his fiancee, Shelby Anderson.

A celebration of Jimie’s life will be in Lone Star Cemetery at Melbourne on Saturday at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Manna House, 147 Lunen St., Melbourne 72556.
