Leon A. Alexander

PINE BLUFF — Leon A. “Cotton” Alexander, 73, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Carden Bottoms, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

The son of Emmett and Wilma Rogers Alexander, he was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Carden Bottoms. He was a 1953 graduate of Carden Bottoms High School and served in the United States Army during the 1950s.

He and Jane Monk were married on Nov. 29, 1958, in Pine Bluff.

Cotton was a retired truck driver, having worked for Boardman’s Trucking, Fikes Lumber Co. and SAJ Distributors. He was active in Linwood-Moscow Volunteer Fire Department where he served as assistant chief. In October 2006, a fire truck was named in his honor in recognition of his service to the department.

He was a member of Linwood Baptist Church in Moscow and preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rosemary Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Alexander of Pine Bluff; a daughter and son-in-law, Sonia and David Peyton of Brookland; two grandchildren, Jeremy Adam Peyton and Jodi Leigh Peyton of Brookland; and a sister, Pam Webb of Stuttgart.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Birta Cemetery in Yell County. The Rev. Micah McKinley will officiate. Burial will be by Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the cemetery.

Luther Allen Boren

PARAGOULD — Luther Allen Boren, 64, of Paragould went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007.

He was of non-denominational faith.

He was born Nov. 10, 1942, at Marmaduke, the son of the late Bernard Boren and Mozelle Boren. His infant sister also preceded him in death.

Allen is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary; five children and their spouses, Bobby and Shena Boren, Billy and Tammy Mitchell, Debbie and Hugh Walker, Eddie Mitchell and Phillip and Tina Mitchell; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his in-laws, Verne Ellis and Verna Chapmon; brother, Barry Boren; and a sister, Debbie Loar.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 this evening in Heath Funeral Home.

Allen’s life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Shannon Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery and his grandsons will be pallbearers.

Michael Robert Dawson

BROOKLAND — Michael Robert Dawson, 60, of Brookland passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at NEA Medical Center.

Mr. Dawson was born Sept. 9, 1947, to Robert and Sibyl Dawson in Torrence, Calif., and served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his mother, Sibyl Smith; three daughters, Michelle Burns, Theresa Dawson and Lori Dawson, all of Massachusetts; six brothers, Richard Dawson of Seattle, Leslie Dawson of Biloxi, Miss., Larry Dawson of Sarasota, Fla., Charles Dawson of Jonesboro, Kenneth Dawson of Auburn, Mass., and Keith Dawson of San Antonio; two sisters, Sharon DeMahy of Baldwin, La., and Linda James of Jonesboro; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and three sisters, Gloria Walker, Deloris Stokes and Marilyn Clark.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Keller’s Chapel Cemetery with Harold Ray and Paul Clark officiating.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-8 in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home at Jonesboro.

George ‘Bruce’ Glasgow

JONESBORO — George “Bruce” Glasgow, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Bay to the late Lowell and Effie Glasgow. He lived Michigan from 1948 until 1990 when he moved back to Jonesboro.

Bruce retired from General Motors. He was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and president of the Senior Men’s Sunday School class. He was also a founding member of the Jonesboro Hamburger Club and a member of Nettleton Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Glasgow of the home; daughter, Marie and Rocco Mutone of Toms River, N.J.; five sons, Russell and Darlene Glasgow of Caro, Mich., Gene and Marsha Glasgow of Davisburg, Mich., Bruce Glasgow of Clinton Township, Mich., Brent and Michelle of Reed City, Mich., and Brad Glasgow of Central Lake, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Lauren Mutone, Anna-Marie Mutone, Alexander Glasgow, Andrew Glasgow, Jennifer Glasgow, Gene Scott Glasgow and Bryce Glasgow; one great-grandchild, Cade; a stepdaughter, Rehlinda Higgins of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; a stepson, Richard and Kathy Smith of Bono; stepgrandchildren, Dix Higgins, Emily Higgins, Brad Hinton, Mickey Francis, Laura Francis, Joey Smith and Rikky Smith; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Bolandon Francis and Oden Smith.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Glasgow and Joe Edward Glasgow.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Walnut Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen Putman and the Rev. Alan Elkins officiating. Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are his children and Gene Scott Glasgow, and as honorary pallbearers, the Senior Men’s Sunday School class and Paul Latham.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Lasting memorials may be sent to Walnut Street Baptist Church and Nettleton Lions Club.

Rev. Lee A. Hutchinson

MAMMOTH SPRING — The Rev. Lee Arnold Hutchinson, 82, of Mammoth Spring was born Nov. 26, 1924, at Sheridan, Iowa, and passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at his home.

Survivors include his daughter, Sheryl Lute and husband Tivis of Great Falls, Mont.; four sons, Rodney Hutchinson and wife Patty of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Tim Hutchinson and wife Dixie of Decorah, Iowa, Steve Hutchinson and wife Rhoda of Austin, Minn., and Jeff Hutchinson and wife Shannon of Houston, Texas; daughter-in-law, Diane Roberts and husband Wayne; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; parents, Jonathan Arthur and Zora May Bryan Hutchinson; two sons, Titus James Hutchinson and Rodger Lee Hutchinson; great-grandson, Brennan Hutchinson; and granddaughter, Louann Lute.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Camp Hosana with Bud Johnson officiating and burial following in Bronaugh Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 in Clary Chapel.

Arrangements are being made under the direction of Clary Funeral Home of Mammoth Spring.

John Jennings

FORT WORTH, Texas — John “Wayne” Jennings, 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at his home.

Born at Trumann, he served in the U.S. Navy. The last 30 years of his life were dedicated to assisting others recover from alcoholism. He will be missed by his many friends of Bill W.

Survivors include four children, Mark, Lamar, Waylon and Lisa; two grandchildren, Heath and Jessica; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Lynn Elkins of Tampa, Fla., and Bernice Martin, Lavon Clark, and Jeanice Combs, all of Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Jennings and Belle Loggains; seven brothers; and one sister.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Wendy Renay Martin

WALNUT RIDGE — Wendy Renay Martin, 45, died Friday, Oct. 12, in Walnut Ridge.

She was born and raised in Burbank, Calif., and moved to Lawrence County in 1993. She was a homemaker and Baptist.

She is survived by her sons, Jason T. Baker and Chadd T. Baker, both of California, and Corbyn T. Martin of Walnut Ridge; daughters, Jessica L. Baker of Hoxie, Sterling L. and Sheela L. Martin, both of Walnut Ridge; her stepfather and mother, Al and Mary Stiny of California; father, Thomas Moore of California; brother, John Moore of Montana; sister, Rena Powell of California; maternal grandmother, Della Moore of Hoxie; and grandchildren, Colin J., Kevin T. and Kendy R. Baker.

Funeral services were Thursday at 2 p.m. in House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with Chuck Fitzgerald and Randy Bailey officiating. Burial followed in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Greg Miles, Scott Wilbanks, Chris Kopp, Wesley Gates, Leslie Gates and Delbert Robins.

Visitation was Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ralph Owen Maynard

JONESBORO — Ralph Owen Maynard, 86, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Batesville to the late Charles and Mary Francis Maynard. He was a retired printer from Roberson Printers in Jonesboro. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Coffee Klatch at Batten’s Bakery.

He taught senior exercise programs for St. Bernards Senior Care, was active playing tennis and a member of the Silver Sneaker Club. Mr. Maynard served in the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Stephen and Elaine Maynard of Augusta; one brother, Robert Maynard of El Paso, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Maynard; a grandson, Stephen Roark Maynard; three brothers; and two sisters.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Martin officiating under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Billy Noel, Olen Wilson, Garren Wilson, Jack Johnson, Bill Rogers, Chuck Purvis, Eugene Hallett, Gordon Metzgar, Ken Hatridge, Roger Scott, Doug Davis, Kevin Hodges, Gene May, Tion Hassen and Mitchell Faught.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-7 in Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Lasting memorials may be sent to St. Bernards Senior Care Center.

Pearl M. Young

Sept. 15, 1921-Oct. 16, 2007

JONESBORO — Pearl M. Young, 86, of Jonesboro died Tuesday at St. Bernards Medical Center.

A homemaker, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Young.

Survivors include her daughters, Frances Bolster and Audrey Roberts, both of Jonesboro, Linda Diane Fraser of Wynne and Cindy Turner of San Antonio; two sisters; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Central Baptist Church, Marked Tree, with burial in Tyronza Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to service time in the church.

Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola is in charge of arrangements.
