Walter Eugene Penix

TUCKERMAN — Walter Eugene Penix, 93, of Tuckerman died Saturday, Jan. 5.

He was of the Church of Christ faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Penix; his parents; and two brothers.

He is survived by one son, David Penix Sr., of Tuckerman; one daughter, Sue McGhee of DeWitt; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Gracelawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 4:30-8 p.m.

Bonnie Jean Shortnacy

ASH FLAT — Bonnie Jean Shortnacy, 71, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Eagle Crest Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born at Rivervale on July 4, 1936, to the late Jesse and Bertha Kelems. She lived in the Hardy and Ash Flat area for eight years. Formerly of Lemoore, Calif., she was a homemaker and of the Pentecost belief. While living in California she was the owner of Top-Job Cleaning Service for several years.

Mrs. Shortnacy loved cooking, gardening and music. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Fite and her husband David of Caruthers, Calif., and Kathy Todd of Chico, Calif.; three sons, Timothy Shortnacy of Visalia, Calif., Michael Shortnacy of Fresno, Calif., and Reuben Shortnacy and his wife Sandra of Lemoore; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alene Whalstrom of Buchanan, Mich., Lillie Dixon of Hardy, Juanita Weathers of Arlington, Texas, and Marcy Young of Springfield, Mo.; and two brothers, Jesse Kelems of Buchanan, Mich., and Jim Kelems of Arlington.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Shortnacy; and one brother, James Billy Kelems.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Gregg Funeral Home Chapel at Monette with the Rev. Terry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Caraway Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. in Gregg Funeral Home at Monette.

Anna Lee Spurlock

HARDY — Anna Lee Spurlock, 76, of Hardy died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, one son, two sisters, one brother, one grandson and one great-grandson.

Survivors include husband, Conway; sons, Joe, John, Larry and Conway Jr.; daughter, Kathy; brothers, Charles, Norman, George, Ezra Jr., Bill and Tom; sisters, Mary Ann, Kay and Betty; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be today in Liberty Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Liberty Hill Cemetery Association. Arrangements by Heath Funeral Home of Highland.

Lorine Whitson

POCAHONTAS — Lorine Whitson passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, at Five Rivers Medical Center at the age of 80 years.

She was preceded by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Whitson is survived by her husband, Jeral Whitson of the home; one sister, Magnolia Wallace of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Gardens with Perry Vandergriff officiating.

Thelma Josephine Barton

PARAGOULD — Thelma Josephine Barton, 93, of Paragould died Tuesday at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Barton; her parents, Tom and May Stewart; four sisters; and two brothers.

She was a farmer, homemaker and of the Baptist belief.

She is survived by her sister, Christine McDaniel of Paragould, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday night at Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Abanathy officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Hardy Childers

PLANO, Texas — Hardy Childers, 90, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Blytheville, died Saturday, Jan. 26, in Plano.

He leaves his wife, Monvil Elizabeth Renfro Childers of Plano; children, Carl Childers of Bella Vista, Hardy Childers Jr. of San Jose, Calif., and Bobby Childers of Buffalo, N.Y.; brothers, Don Childers of Blytheville and Joe Childers of Kaufman, Texas; sisters, Vivian Carter of Clarksville, Laura Travis of Grenada, Miss., and Carlene Croft of Prescott, Ariz.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville with visitation from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home.

Malvin Gatlin

JONESBORO — Malvin Gatlin, 78, of Jonesboro, died Monday at Baptist NEA Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born in Covington, Tenn., Malvin lived much of his life in Memphis before moving to Jonesboro in 1995. He was retired from Kimberly Clark in Memphis and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Malvin was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church where he was active in the Businessmen Sunday School class.

He was a member of the American Legion and was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Martha Gatlin of the home; one son, Ron Gatlin of Maplesville, Ala.; two daughters, Donna Kuber of Monument, Colo., and Anna Gatlin of Jonesboro; one sister, Juanita Clark of Memphis; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 at Walnut Street Baptist Church with Dr. Glen Putman officiating.

A graveside committal service will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at Memory Hill Garden Cemetery in Bartlett, Tenn., with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers include Jim Cole, Glenn Eubanks, Curtis Shatley, Darrell Williamson, Jerry Parker and Junior Roach.

Honorary pallbearers include granddaughters, Shadasy Gatlin, Jacqui Lochridge, Jennifer Bain and members of the Businessmen Sunday School class.

Visitation will be held tonight, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to Jonesboro Church Health Center, 200 West Matthews, Jonesboro, 72401.

Bryan Keith George

JONESBORO — Bryan Keith George, 45, of Jonesboro left us suddenly on Monday.

Keith was the beloved son of Hollice and Louise Mitcherson George of Trumann.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luther and Molly George and Mamie and Lee Mitcherson.

Keith leaves behind his parents; his brother, Rickey of Trumann; his longtime friend, Jamie Pearson Tubbs of Center Ridge; and too many friends to name.

He was the long-term manager of Payless Rental and Sales in Jonesboro. We will all miss his ready smile and his quick wit and especially his loving heart.

Keith touched our lives in a 1,000 ways. Our world will never be the same.

We will celebrate his life in a memorial service at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Trumann.

The memorial service will be Thursday morning at 10 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Nolan Glover officiating. Burial will follow in the Marked Tree Cemetery in Marked Tree.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Goodman, Fred Pearson, David Eubanks, Jerry Brown, David Lassen, Gary Gestring, Richard Foster and Byron Rasberry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Runsick and Bob Blankenship.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-8 at Thompson Funeral Home.

Ara Neely Kirksey

JONESBORO — Ara Christine Lamberson Neely Kirksey, 91, of Jonesboro died Jan. 8, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Her services were held Jan. 11, 2008.

She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Lavanna Maxine; first husband, Elsie Neal Neely; and her second husband, Wilburn L. Kirksey, all of Jonesboro. This was an omission to her previous obituary.

Brenda McShan Moore

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Brenda McShan Moore, 43, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Forrest City, died Jan. 24.

Brenda was a Baptist by faith and worked as a certified nursing assistant.

Surviving loved ones include her daughter, Diamond Danielle of the home; her sisters, Joann Lyles of Houston, Texas, Annette Thompson and Vickie Evans, both of Jonesboro, Bernice Miranda of Perry, Calif., and Gerry Gean McShan of West Memphis; brothers, Robert McShan Jr. and Terry McShan, both of St. Louis., Paul McShan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ronnie McShan of Gosnell; many other relatives and friends.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Grace Chapel of Woodard Funeral Service in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Alphonzo Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Gardens in Edmondson.

Visitation will be from 10 until service time.
