Jack Eugene Tinsley

JOINER — Jack Eugene Tinsley, 65, of Joiner died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Memphis.

He was a retired supervisor for National Bumper Exchange.

Survivors include his sisters, Lynn Jones of Kevil, Ky., and Margaret Loflin of Shreveport, La.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Van and Karen Murphy and family.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. There will be no services.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Billy Hal Turman

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Billy Hal Turman, 78, formerly of Memphis and Jonesboro, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at his daughter’s residence.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with visitation from 11 a.m. until service time.

Services are entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Carroll Vinson

PARAGOULD — Carroll Vinson, 63, of Paragould passed away Monday, April 28, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born at Trumann on March 17, 1945, to Otho and Hazel Vinson. He was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Jonesboro and Craighead County for 29 years. He loved fishing, Ford trucks and was of the Baptist belief.

He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Debbie; two daughters, Karen Johnson of Cash and Sharon Stephens of Jonesboro; three sisters, Linda Welch of West Memphis, Billie Jean Killion of Union City, Tenn., and Susie Fagan of Trumann; and four grandchildren, Crystal Eastworth, Andrew Stephens, Amber Johnson and Hunter Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Eddie and Tony.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Wednesday at Mount Pisgah Cemetery at 1 p.m. with Dr. Jim Shaw officiating.

Visitation will be held this evening from 5-8 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will include Michael Stephens, Wesley Cogburn, Hansel Stephens and Herbert Granger.

Miss Mildred Marie Walker

1916-2008

TRUMANN — Miss Mildred Marie Walker was born on Wednesday, May 17, 1916, daughter of the late Doss E. and Mabel Irene Whaley Walker. Miss Walker died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 10 days.

She was born in Sulphur Rock and had lived in Trumann for the past 57 years and was formerly of Nettleton. She was a retired clerk and member of the First Pentecostal Church.

Miss Walker was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Kennedy, two brothers, Edward and Russell Walker, two nieces, Carolyn Walker Ritter and Kathy Walker, one nephew, Robert Kennedy, and her parents.

Survivors include one sister, Doris Walker of the home; and one brother, C.G. Walker of Trumann.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with the Rev. Murray Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery at Jonesboro.

Pallbearers will be Robert Blasingame, Harold King, Ernie Nichols, Harold Pankey, Donnie Taylor and Bill Wilson.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-8 at Thompson Funeral Home.

Charlie Anderson

McKENZIE, Tenn. — Charlie Anderson, 95, of McKenzie, Tenn., formerly of Marked Tree, died Thursday, May 1.

He actively served at Anderson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church before his health prompted his move to Tennessee.

Survivors include his sons, Eddie Anderson of Paris, Tenn., Nathaniel Engram of Marked Tree, Lawrence Anderson of Washington, D.C., Abdullah Shabazz of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joseph Anderson of Reno, Nev.; daughters, Francis Smith of Milwaukee, Ann Powe of Elkhart, Ind., and Charlie Mae Anderson of Chicago; goddaughter, Tamara McCuiston; 27 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Anderson Chapel with the Rev. E.D. Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Marked Tree Civic Cemetery directed by Woodard Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from noon until service time.

Willodean Baker

INDIANOLA, Miss. — Willodean Baker, 77, of Indianola, Miss., died Sunday, May 4, 2008, in Indianola.

Mrs. Baker was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. On Sept. 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harville Leslie Baker Sr. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son Harville (Martha) Baker Jr. of Newport; daughter, Debbie Wood of Indianola; brothers, Max and Frankie Bush, both of Archer, Fla.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. with burial in Nelson Cemetery at Reyno.

Katherine H. Bourland

CHERRY VALLEY — Mrs. Katherine H. Bourland of Cherry Valley departed this life Monday, May 5, 2008, in Cherry Valley at the age of 93.

She had lived in Cherry Valley for the past four years and was cared for by her nieces, Tommie Downing and Mary Ann Sills. She was a member of Cherry Valley Church of Christ.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many friends.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday in Magnolia Cemetery at Coldwater, Miss. There will be no visitation.

Weston Funeral Service of Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Fay Harpole

JONESBORO — Linda Fay Harpole, 61, of Jonesboro passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born in Pulaski, Tenn., April 24, 1947, to Elton and Myrtle Thomas. She was retired from Quebecor, where she worked in the traffic office. She was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.

She leaves behind her husband, Donny Harpole of the home; two sons, Darren Harpole, and his wife Shannon of Jonesboro and Chad Harpole of Memphis; seven brothers, Mark Thomas of Mountain Home, Jim Thomas, Steve Thomas and Tony Thomas, all of Bay, Dale Thomas, Mike Thomas and Donnie Thomas, all of Jonesboro; six sisters, Kathy Weir of Jonesboro, Shelby Stevens, Mary Morgan, Charlotte Newton and Becky Spencer, all of Bay, and Patsy Fleming of Trumann; and two grandchildren, Reed and Luke Harpole.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, William Thomas.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel, beginning at 1 p.m. with Danny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will include T.J. Moss, Matthew Spencer, Daniel Harpole, John Pickering, Shannon Davis and Lance Honeycutt. Her brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Alvin Neal Hicks

PARAGOULD — Alvin Neal Hicks, 70, of Paragould passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008.

He was born April 24, 1938, at Milligan Ridge to Coy and Euna Hicks. Neal was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ. He retired from CenturyTel Telephone Co. after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Montgomery Hicks; one daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Tommy Shewmaker of Paragould; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Marshall and Shari Hicks, Scott and Jennifer Hicks, all of Paragould, and Bill and Missie Hicks of West Memphis; five grandsons, Bradley and Allen Shewmaker, Dustin and Andrew Hicks, all of Paragould, and Beau Hicks of Jonesboro; one granddaughter, Emily Hicks of Paragould; one great-grandson, Carter Reed Shewmaker of Paragould; three sisters, Agness House and Betty St. John, both of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Alice Alsup of Orrick, Mo.; fours brothers, Hurshel Hicks of Watkins, Colo., Johnny Hicks of Orrick, Waymon Hicks of Bay and Eddie Hicks of Jonesboro.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Coy and Euna Hicks; and two brothers, Noel and Wesley Hicks.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 this evening at Center Hill Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Center Hill Church of Christ with Jon Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow in Monette Memorial Cemetery.

Bradley and Allen Shewmaker, Andrew, Dustin and Emily Hicks, Steve Parker, Manuel Johnson and Royce McMillon will serve as active pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Reed, Skip Layne, Randy Hutchinson, Billy Watson and Ed Jernigan.

Betty Houston

DELL — Mrs. Betty Houston, 80, of Dell died Sunday.

She leaves her sons, Robert Morris Houston (Tonya) of Brandon, Miss., and William Doyle Houston Jr. (Kris) of Jacksonville; daughter, Susan Virginia Tusing (Edwin) of Dell; brother, Bill Hardin of Blytheville; grandchildren, Will and Tracy Houston, Amy Houston and John Hunt, Zac and Jennifer Houston, Adam Tusing, Tina and Brad McClure, Andy Tusing, and Dana Wilkerson; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Dell Baptist Church with visitation from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville.
