Adeline Crowe

JONESBORO — Adeline Crowe, 82, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at White County Medical Center at Searcy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Crowe.

She is survived by her son, Gary Crowe of Beebe; daughter, Carlos Latourette of Beebe; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Larry Kelley and other grandsons serving as pallbearers, and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday in Emerson Funeral Home.

Wayne M. Grommet

JONESBORO — Wayne M. Grommet, 59, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He moved to Jonesboro in 1969, coming from Brinkley, and was a member of St. Timothy’s Anglican Church.

Wayne was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and had received the Silver Beaver Award and Vigil Honor membership in the Order of the Arrow.

Wayne was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he considered his grandchildren to be the very center of his world. While his friends and family rejoice for his entering into the presence of his Lord, he will be sorely missed by the loved ones and friends he leaves behind. He owned and operated W & G Photo Lab for many years.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Wayne C. Grommet.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Susie Grommet of the home; son, Michael Grommet and wife Cindy of Cordova, Tenn.; mother, Iris Grommet of Brinkley; brother, Allen Grommet of Forrest City; sister, Judith Stokes of Marvell; and four grandchildren, Abby, Emily, Kristen, and Caitlyn Grommet, all of Cordova.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Pine Log Cemetery with a memorial service at 5 that evening in St. Timothy’s Anglican Church with Brad Cunningham officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be the adult leadership of the Boy Scouts of America.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-7 in Emerson Funeral Home.

Lena Cragg Heath

TRUMANN — Lena Louise “Granny” Cragg Heath, 84, of Trumann died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital at Jonesboro.

She was born at Grubbs and had lived at Trumann for the past 53 years. She was a retired teller for Bank of Trumann, member of the Ladies Auxiliary NEA Baptist Hospital, founding member of Providence Baptist Church at Trumann and a member of Nettleton Baptist Church.

Mrs. Heath was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. Roy Cragg, in 1966; one daughter, Sonja Faye Cragg; one sister; six brothers; and her parents, James Monroe and Cora Bell Rie Prince.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Cullen Heath of the home; daughter, Sandra and William “Sonny” Whitmire of Jonesboro; sons, Stanley and Sharon Cragg of Conway and Steve and Marilyn Heath of Jonesboro; two brothers, Walter Prince of Denver and Jay Prince of Lamont, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 10 in Nettleton Baptist Church at Jonesboro with Dr. Stan Ballard and the Rev. Harold Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Hurd, Glenn Gautreaux, Jennifer Gautreaux, Laura Spires, Todd Spires, Amy Whitmire, Seth Whitmire, Mandy Whitmire and Nathan Whitmire.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nettleton Baptist Church Men’s 4 Sunday school class, the Ladies’ 5A Sunday school class and NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 in Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Autism Society of America.

Carl T. House

ST. FRANCIS — Carl T. House, 71, of St. Francis passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in Piggott Community Hospital.

He was the son of the late Sidney and Mattie Shepard House.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lue House; daughters, Teresa Gates and Carla Bricker; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Steve Bricker officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery at St. Francis.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Sunday at 6 p.m.

William Clinton Looney

WALNUT RIDGE — William Clinton “Clint” Looney, 74, died Wednesday, May 7, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center at Walnut Ridge.

He was a retired farmer and had lived in Lawrence County most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William O. and Nora Gillian Looney; infant children, Karen and Robert; brother, Dorman Looney; sister, Wilma Bice; and grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Looney of Hoxie; daughters, Tammy Defries of Hoxie and Debbie Crawford of Batesville; sons, William Looney II of Clover Bend, David Looney of Walnut Ridge and Kenneth Looney of Black Rock; close family friend, Jerry Pyles of Alicia; sisters, Norma Lee Blasingame of Leachville and Mary Dill of Coloma, Mich.; brother, Norman Looney of Van Buren, Mo.; and nine grandchildren, Billy and Jessica Looney, Joshua Looney, Jon and Drew Defries, Rachel and Holly Looney, Dustin and Alison Crawford.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Hoxie Church of Christ with Darrell Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Bend Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in House-Gregg Funeral Home at Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers will be Terry Jones, Stan Jones, Britt Jones, William Looney III, Josh Looney and Jon Defries.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Cude and Roger Swindle.

Collier Nance

MONETTE — Collier Nance, 87, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Thomas Rhoades

Nov. 20, 1943-May 6, 2008

CAVE CITY — Thomas Rhoades, 64, of Cave City died Tuesday at White River Medical Center at Batesville.

He was born at Monterey Park, Calif., to the late John and Beulah Rhoades. He worked for the City of Cave City and was a Christian.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Rhoades of the home; sons, Thomas John Rhoades Jr. of Cave City and John Thomas Rhoades of Bauxite; daughter, Melody Rasmussen of Cave City; six brothers; three sisters; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date with arrangements by Qualls Cave City Funeral Home.

Curtis Melton Smith

WALNUT RIDGE — Curtis Melton Smith, 82, of Walnut Ridge died Wednesday evening at Lawrence Hall Nursing and Rehab.

He was born March 18, 1926, at Mammoth Spring, the son of Toliver and Cora King Smith.

He was united in marriage to Thelma Taylor June 22, 1947, at Sedgwick.

Mr. Smith was a retired carpenter from Children’s Colony at Jonesboro and member of Free Will Baptist Church at Little Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Smith of Walnut Ridge; son, Gary Smith and wife Linda; daughter, Romano Coleman and husband Wes of Georgetown, Texas; and sister, Beulah Cardwell of Sterling, Ill. Seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends will miss him\.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Higginbotham Chapel at Walnut Ridge with the Rev. James Noblin officiating. Burial will follow in Old military Cemetery near Sedgwick.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-8 in the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.

Alva Lee Stevens

OSCEOLA — Alva Lee Stevens, 93, of Osceola entered into rest May 7.

Born Oct. 9, 1914, to the late George and Sally Chappell, she leaves her sons, the Rev. Jimmy Stevens and Dr. Robert Stevens; daughters, Joy White and Ann Lowe; sister, Cena Bell Stone of Jackson, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Stevens; and three sisters.

Visitation will be held in Roller Swift Funeral Home Monday, May 12, 2008, from 2-3 p.m. with the funeral following at 3 and burial in Mississippi County Memorial Gardens.
