Homer Harold Head

WALNUT RIDGE — Homer Head, 82, of Sedgwick died Sunday, May 25, at his residence.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was retired from the Crane Corporation in Jonesboro and a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Kazzee Head of the home; sons, Randy Kazzee of Cave City and Mike Bennett of Hoxie; brothers, Junior Deen and Carl Head of Sedgwick; sister, Patsy Forkum of Paragould; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in First Baptist Church at Sedgwick with Dennis Truxler and Tom Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Old military Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6-8 in House-Gregg Funeral Home at Walnut Ridge.

Leroy Barnett, Jr.

PARAGOULD — Leroy Barnett Jr., 87, of Paragould died June 1, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Mr. Barnett was a World War II Army Veteran and retired painter for General Motors. He enjoyed lawn mowing, keeping his car and truck spotless, riding the mower with his grandchildren, Sunday afternoon drives and animals. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

On Dec. 30, 1943, he was united in marriage to Wanda Mae (Arnold) Barnett. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Larry Barnett of Jonesboro and Robert (Cindy) Barnett of Paragould; two daughters, Linda Fraine and Cathy (Stan) Carmack, both of Paragould; two sisters, Ann Hamlett of Corning and Dorothy Lane of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; five grandsons, Shawn and Kerry Barnett, Anthony Childress, Jonathan and Jordan Carmack; and eight great-grandchildren, Preston, Taylor, Garrett, Brock and Alexander Barnett, Alec Childress, John Mark and Abby Pruitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Grace Barnett; brother, Bud Barnett; and sister, Rosemary Lawson.

Visitation will be tonight, 6-8, at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Joe Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Bond Cemetery near Knobel. Pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paragould Children’s Homes, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould and Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 339, Paragould.

Julia Mae Clark

LUXORA — Julia Mae Clark, 97, of Luxora died Sunday, June l, 2008.

Born Sept. 10, 1910, to the late Elisha and Julia Smith, she is survived by one son, Lawrence Clark; three daughters, Billy Sue Bourland, Mae Carter and Rebecca Brinkley; daughter-in-law, Wanda Clark; and one brother, William Carl Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.B. Clark Sr., son, J.B. Clark Jr.; and two sisters, Lorene Clark and Cornelius Elrod.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Swift Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow in Luxora Cemetery.

Cleatus Luster Crain

JONESBORO — Cleatus Luster Crain went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

He was born April 3, 1912, to Arthur and Maudie Huffstutler Crain in Dunklin County, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Mary Anna Farmer Crain; his parents; two sons, Ralph E. Crain Sr. and Luster Ray Crain; one daughter, Carolyn June Crain; one sister, Ruth Crain Thompson; and one brother, Melvin Crain.

He is survived by one daughter, Cleata Crain Daniel and husband James; one son, R. Gaylon Crain and wife Cathy; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Miller Crain, all of Jonesboro. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, David Daniel (Beverly), Stan Daniel (Maria), Karen Daniel White (Tommy), Ralph Crain, Jr. (Trina), Brian Crain (Jamie), Clay Crain (Stephanie M.) and Stephanie Crain Busch (Brenton); 10 great-grandchildren, Matt Daniel, Josh Daniel (Nicole), Meredith Daniel, Madison Daniel, Dustin White, Zac White, Jonathan Crain, Kaylee Crain, Kirk Busch and Connor Crain; and by one great-great-granddaughter, Finley Daniel.

He is also survived by three sisters, Audry Lamb of Rockford, Ill., Ruby Reynolds of Flint, Mich., and Margaret Griffin of Paragould; three brothers, William “Buster” Crain of Jonesboro, Vernon Crain of Orlando, Fla., Donald Crain of Ore City, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Crain was a charter member and deacon of White Oak General Baptist Church in Rector, which was organized on Aug. 21, 1939, and he was listed as the eighth member. He was a member of New Life Assembly Church of Jonesboro. He was a retired farmer and factory worker. He loved gardening and was an avid sports fan.

Visitation will be tonight, 6-8, at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Jerry Jolly will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be all other grandchildren.

Gearldine Dietz

LEACHVILLE — Willie Gearldine Dietz, 86, of Leachville died Monday at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.

Born at Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Viola Ragland Killion and had lived much of her life in Oklahoma. She was the widow of Richard Dietz and had lived in Leachville for the past 17 years.

Survivors include son, Floyd Beaver of Mountain Home; daughter, Karen Hickey of Owasso, Okla.; grandsons, Shawn Hickey, Edward Beaver and Todd Beaver; nieces, Georgia Selby, JoRita Hollis and Jewell Crites; nephew, Charles Layton; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Howard Funeral Service Chapel at Leachville with the Rev. Russell Rhodes officiating. Graveside services will be Friday in Proctor Cemetery near Tahlequah, Okla.

The family will receive visitors tonight, 6-8, in the funeral home.

Tom Gower

POLLARD — Tom Gower, 72, of Pollard, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born March 27, 1936, and was the son of the late Ernest and Florence Davis Gower.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; his children; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Kevin Murray officiating. Burial is in New Hope Cemetery at Pollard. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. until service time.

Birdie Inez Gullet

POCAHONTAS — Birdie Inez Gullet, 91, of Pocahontas died Sunday, June 1, at her home at Pocahontas.

Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Hogue, and grandson, Ray Hogue, both of Pocahontas; two nieces, Wanda Potter of Pocahontas and Patsy Pickett of Dalton; and two nephews, Marvin Johnson of Pocahontas and Ray Toney of Dalton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Masonic Cemetery at Pocahontas under the direction of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home.

Visitation is today from 5-7 p.m. in Cox-Waymon Chapel.

Helga Anna Helfrich

HARDY — Mrs. Helga Anna (Weinstein) Helfrich, 78, of Hardy died Monday, at her home.

Helga was retired from General Motors. She was the daughter of the late Karl Helfrich and the late Emma (Bendig) Helfrich.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Helfrich of San Bruno, Calif.; one son, Wilfred (Will) Helfrich of Oxford, Mich.; two sisters, Gerda Lohse and Anneliese Korte, both in Germany; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements under the direction of Heath Funeral Home Highland.

Funeral services will be at Hardy Gym at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Charles Babb officiating.

Robert Junior Ivy

POCAHONTAS — Robert Junior Ivy, 65, of Pocahontas, son of Robert and Lorine Ivy, died June 1, 2008, in St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He was survived by his wife, Valerie; sons, Brian of Warm Springs and Nick of Dalton; step-children, Amy, Randy and Kenneth, all of Pocahontas; eight grandchildren; six brothers and sisters; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. Thursday in Cox-Waymon Chapel with services to follow at 7 p.m. Cox-Waymon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Ann “Patsy” Krouse

GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas — Patricia Ann “Patsy” Krouse, 68, passed away, Friday, May 30, 2008, at Turner Geriatric Center in Galveston, Texas.

She was born Sept. 4, 1939, in Walnut Ridge, however, she has been a longtime resident of Galveston Island for many years.

Patsy, as she was affectionately known by her family and many friends, is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Lillie Bell and A.J. Blake Sr., and also one of her brothers, Albert Blake Jr.

Patsy leaves behind her husband, Joe Aguirre of Galveston; her son, Eugene Pennington and wife Vicki of Jonesboro; and also her step-children, Aurora, Gabriel and Rebecca Aguirre, all of Wisconsin. Sharing in her loss, too, are Patsy’s grandchildren, Jennifer Potter, Jerica Pennington, Bridgette Tosh and Devon Tosh; and also six great-grandchildren.

Patsy is survived, also, by her sisters and brothers, Barbara McCourt of Galveston, Leo Bell of Houston, Texas, Vera Bell of Galveston, Leroy Bell of Jonesboro, Shirley Campbell of Galveston, Judy Sudduth of Houston and Ernie Bell of Jonesboro; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Patsy will be remembered privately by her family who lovingly honored her wish for cremation.

Patsy’s family would like to take this opportunity to give a very special thank you to the entire staff of Turner Geriatric Center, Galveston and Hospice Care Team Inc. in Texas City, Texas, for the wonderful care and support given to her during these most difficult times. Your kindness shown is most appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, Patsy’s family is requesting that memorials in her memory be made to Hospice Care Team Inc., 1708 Amburn, Suite C, Texas City, Texas 77591-2436.
