Willie ‘Shag’ Isom

OSCEOLA — Willie “Shag” Isom, 92, of Osceola died Wednesday, June 25, 2008.

He was born Dec. 12, 1915, to the late Maybell Brown and Buford Isom.

Survivors include a nephew he raised, James Thomas “Popeye” of London, England; a special niece, Diane Flint of Loganville, Ga.; sisters, Marie Bridges of California and Louvenia King of Saginaw, Mich.; brothers, Robert Isom of Mississippi, Buford Isom Jr. and Earl Isom, both of Saginaw; and companion, Mattie Nash of Osceola.

Services will be this afternoon at 1 in Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Osceola with burial in Rivercrest Garden Cemetery at Marie under the direction of Wilson’s Osceola Funeral Home.

Billy Ray Johnson

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Billy Ray Johnson, 59, died Sunday.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Palmer Johnson; two sons, Mark Johnson of Bono and Aaron Johnson of Pocahontas; a daughter, Sarah Holloway of Cherokee Village; mother, Cleta Barnes of Pocahontas; three brothers, Tommy Stockwell and Ronnie Stockwell, both of Pocahontas, and Butch Stockwell of Mammoth Spring; and a sister, Sharon Thielemier of Pocahontas.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in First Free Will Baptist Church at Pocahontas with Nelson Henderson officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Lawson Clayton Morrison

JONESBORO — Lawson Clayton Morrison, 96, of Jonesboro died Monday morning, June 30, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Jean Ritter

MEMPHIS — Jean Blandford Westbrooke Ritter, 79, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, after a short illness.

She leaves her three children, Rudolph Alwin Ritter Jr., Sarah Harris and Clifton Ritter. She leaves three grandsons and two granddaughters.

Mrs. Ritter was a 1950 graduate and active alumna of Lyon College, formerly Arkansas College. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis.

After being a homemaker, she worked for more than 20 years as a social worker for the Tennessee Department of Human Services with most of her time devoted to the division of Child Protective Services.

She requests any memorials be sent to Lyon College in Batesville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced at First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.

Dawn Renee Smith

PARAGOULD — Dawn Renee Wynn Smith, 43, of Paragould died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Dawn was born Oct. 12, 1964, at Virginia Beach, Va., the daughter of Betty Hackworth and the late Carl Wynn.

She was also preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, Tim Smith of Jonesboro; daughter, Kelsey Smith of Paragould; mother and stepfather, Betty and Winford “Wink” Hackworth of Paragould; brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Melissa Wynn of Walcott; nieces and nephew-in-law, Kristin and Jason Summers of Paragould, Brittany Wynn of Fayetteville, and Katie Wynn of Walcott; nephew, Zachary “Zack” Wynn of Walcott; great-nephews, Isaac and Zeke Summers of Paragould; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Larry and Janette Smith of Jonesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Strope and Kenny Mauldin officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Jason Summers, Brent Hodge, Nathan Pyburn, Zack Wynn, Dale Galloway and Richard Goldsmith.

Memorials may go to the Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, N.Y. 10016, or www.kidney.org.

Corneill Thielemier

POCAHONTAS — Dr. Corneill Thielemier, 90, died at Five Rivers Medical Center Monday.

Survivors include his wife, Tommie Jean Weatherford Thielemier; two brothers, Vitus Thielemier and Peter Paul Thielemier, both of Pocahontas; and three sisters, Esther Wurtz and Lee Mondy, both of Pocahontas, and Mary Ann Graddy of Clover Bend.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with the Rev. John Marconi officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-7 at McNabb Funeral Home with a rosary said at 7.

Melvin Dale Block

NEWPORT — Melvin Dale Block, 64, of Newport died Tuesday. He was born Aug. 2, 1943, at Newport, the son of Melzie and Dorothy Block.

He is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Westmoreland, and husband Steve of Newport; two brothers, Thomas Elmo Block of Dallas and Richard Dean Block of Newport; one sister, Rita Jane Roach of Newport; and two grandchildren, Hunter and Grant Westmoreland.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Orlando Lee Burcham

MARKED TREE — Orlando Lee Burcham, 92, of Marked Tree died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

Mr. Burcham is of the Baptist faith. He was one of the oldest living members of the local carpenter’s union and was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Burcham.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Yancy Burcham of Marked Tree; one son, Randall Burcham of Caraway; two daughters, Joan Eubanks of Hot Springs and Jane Carruth of Tupelo; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 10-11 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 11. Burial will be in Tyronza Cemetery under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Eubanks will officiate and special music will be provided by Scott Burcham.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Eubanks, Greg Eubanks, Scott Burcham, John Carruth, Bill Colley and Andy Redwood.

Honorary pallbearer is Artie Smith.

Jimmy Ray Burton Sr.

WYNNE — Jimmy Ray Burton Sr., 50, of Wynne died June 28, 2008, in his home.

Survivors include his children, Jimmy R. Burton Jr. and Lashondra Burton, both of Memphis, Marcus Burton of Earle, Carlos Burton and Cassandra Wilson, both of Wynne; sisters, Pearlean Smith of Parkin, Lula Spencer and Dorothy Burton, both of Chicago; brother, Sidney Burton of Earle; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at noon in Pentecostal Crusade Church of Jesus Christ at Earle with burial in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery under the direction or Woodard’s Wynne Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 in Woodard’s Wynne Chapel.

Gladys Miranda Busby

WALNUT RIDGE — Gladys Busby, 95, died Wednesday at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

She had lived at Alicia all her life and was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Raymon Parrott of Alicia and Damon Parrott of Joplin, Mo., and a grandson, Terry Parrott.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in House-Gregg Funeral Home Chapel at Walnut Ridge with Everett Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Strangers Home Cemetery near Alicia.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Cecil ‘Don’ Carter Jr.

WYNNE — Cecil “Don” Carter Jr., 42, of Wynne passed away Monday, June 30, 2008.

Don was born June 5, 1966, at Wynne to Cecil D. and Carolyn Boeckmann Carter. He was employed as a truck driver for Container Transport Co. at Forrest City. Don was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Chad Carter of Wynne and Chuck Carter of Searcy; his maternal grandparents, Otto and Margaret Boeckmann of Wynne; paternal grandmother, Annie Carter of Vanndale; nieces and nephews, Gunner, Tessa, Chloe and Charly Carter; many other family members and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lonnie Carter.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Peter’s Catholic Church at Wynne. Interment will follow in Johnson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church or The Set Free Ministry in Wynne.

William Lewis Clark Jr.

PARAGOULD — William “Bill” Lewis Clark Jr., 74, of Paragould died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

Bill was the store manager at Gibson’s, a salesman for White Printing Co. and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a military policeman during the Korean Conflict.

He was born Oct. 19, 1933, the son of the late Audra Pearl Goforth and William Clark, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Beth Callahan Clark, and his grandson, Aaron David Tarry.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Liz and Shane May, and Melissa Tarry, all of Paragould; sister, Carolyn Christian of Jonesboro; brothers, Harold Clark of Jonesboro and Tommy Clark of Shawnee, Okla.; and grandchildren, Anna Clara May and Will Tarry and his wife, Tasha.

His life will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Tom Letchworth officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday in the chapel. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.
