Gladys Lorene Pickett

POCAHONTAS — Gladys Lorene Pickett, 92, died at Pocahontas Health Care and Rehab on Tuesday, July 8.

She was born March 26, 1916, at Ravenden to the late Richard Ray and Noma Spotts Pickett. She was a retired beautician and member of First Baptist Church in Pocahontas.

Three brothers, William Spotts Pickett, John Glenn Pickett and Charles Ray Pickett; and a niece, Mary Virginia Pickett, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph E. Pickett of Ravenden Springs; two sisters, Elizabeth Stubblefield of Pocahontas and Geneva Bottoms of Wichita, Kan.; sister-in-law, Patsy Pickett of Pocahontas; three nephews, Brian G. Pickett, Gary J. Pickett and Richard M. Pickett; and four nieces, Mary Jo Gwaltney, Mona Stecklein, Sheri Midkiff and Dr. Karen Pickett.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Don Strait officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery with Gary Pickett, Joshua Pickett, David Midkiff, Joseph Midkiff, Steve Case and Bill Mitchell serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brian and Colton Pickett.

Visitation will be from 5-7 Friday evening at the funeral home.

William Alfred Pierce

WALNUT RIDGE — William “Red” Pierce, 79, died Tuesday, July 8, at his residence.

He had lived in the Oak Grove community for 55 years.

Survivors include his wife, Joeleene Foster Pierce; son, Steve Pierce; daughters, Vickie Robinson and Georgie Jones; sister, Orpha Murphy; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Oak Grove Church of Christ with A.J. Stracner officiating. Burial will follow in Markham Cemetery near Egypt under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-8 in the funeral home.

Cora Sue Rogers

LAKE CITY — Cora Sue Rogers, 74, of Lake City died Wednesday, July 9, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born June 13, 1934, to Sylvester and Elizabeth Spillman. She was a cosmetologist and enjoyed painting, music, cats and dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Rogers of the home; two sons, Gene Rogers and wife Vanessa of Lake City, and Ted Rogers and wife Cathy of Jonesboro; daughter, Terry Ramer and husband Bill of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Shauna Boatman, Shane Branscum, Hunter Rogers, Landon Rogers, all of Lake City, Ross Rogers of Jonesboro, Jordan Ziegler and Wendy Bass, both of Little Rock; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Boatman and Shaun Boatman, both of Lake City, Tristan Branscum of Trumann, Ricky and Jordan Branscum, both of Wilton; a brother, J.C. Spillman and wife Jessie of Lynn, Mo.; and a son-in-law, Leroy Branscum.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Branscum; brother, Carl Spillman; sister, Mildred McDaniel; and her first husband, Max Roe.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Pine Log Cemetery with Jerry Reed officiating.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Marcella Rowe Rose

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Marcella Rowe Rose, 82, of San Jose, formerly of Paragould, died Friday, July 4, 2008, at her home.

She was born June 22, 1926, at Paragould, the daughter of the late Elbert and Edith Hyde Rowe. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dr. Robert Alan “Bobby” Vaughn; and her second husband, Bill Davis.

Marcella was a homemaker and member of Gainesville Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, C. William Rose of San Jose; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Donna Vaughn of Lahaina, Hawaii; stepchildren, Peggy and her husband James Hunt, Melinda Davis and Karen Robertson, all of Paragould, Rob Rose and Kirk Rose of San Jose, Kelly Rose of Orlando, Fla., and Mick Rose of Smithville; half brother, Wayne Rowe of Union City, Tenn.; grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon and Stuart Young III of Charlotte, N.C., Andrea and Duane Warcaba of Napierville, Ill.; ex-husband, J.C. Vaughn Jr. of Paragould; 12 stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Carolyn Griggs and Joe Hyde, both of Paragould, Jackie Shaw and Tina Quinn, both of Jonesboro, David Hyde of Lander, Wyo., and Danetta Witcher of Rector.

The family will receive friends from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, in Heath Funeral Home. Family and friends will leave in procession at 5:30 p.m. from Heath Funeral Home for a 6 p.m. graveside in Beech Grove Cemetery with Wilburn Griggs officiating.

Florence L. Ryan

TRUMANN — Florence Loretta Ryan, 83, of Trumann died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Jonesboro HealthCare Center.

She was born at Trumann and had lived in Trumann most of her life. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ryan was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and three sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Ryan of the home; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 2 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Nettleton Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.

Mildred Marie Tinker

MINTURN — Mildred Marie Tinker, 74, of Minturn died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born on Oct. 10, 1933, at Alicia, the daughter of Rex and Myrtle Chastiaan Pierce. Mrs. Tinker was employed with Scentation’s in Pocahontas, a member of Main Street Church of Christ at Walnut Ridge and an active member of the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Rex Pierce Jr., brother, Jessie Pierce; and an infant brother.

Her husband, Loyce Tinker of the home; and one son, Jason Tinker of Minturn, survive her. A host of other relatives and friends will mourn her passing.

Funeral services are planned for Saturday morning at 10 in Main Street Church of Christ at Walnut Ridge with Rob Combs and Jerry Haner officiating. Burial will follow in Midturn Cemetery at Minturn under direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service at Walnut Ridge.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-8 in Higginbotham Chapel at Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers are D.C. Rowlett, Wayne King, Danny Haner, Lester Herring, Ed Baker and Junior Briner.

Honorary pallbearers are Larry Hayes, Ronnie Brown, Joe Baker, Dan Ellison and Alex Latham.

Misty Dawn Bateson

MONETTE — Misty Dawn Rosten Bateson, 32, passed away at Monette Sunday, July 6, 2008.

She was born July 9, 1975, to Leta and Craig Rosten at Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, Calif. Misty served in the National Guard.

She is survived by her parents, Leta and Craig Rosten; two sons, Nicholas and Elijah Rosten; one daughter and son-in-law, Brittany Smith and Bobby Sims; a brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Renee Rosten; three sisters, Crystal Rosten, Rebecca Traywick and her husband Frank, Lisa Hodgekiss and her husband, Tim; paternal grandparents, Roy Rosten of Durango, Colo., and Pauline Rosten of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her companion, Jason Tompkins; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, Herbert and Dorothy Palmer; great-grandmother, Helen Solka; uncle, Rick Mason; aunt, Bonnie Drennen; and a special friend, Brian Sipes.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 this evening in Greater Visions Church.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the church with Rick Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the family for funeral expenses.

Agnes Bell

RECTOR — Agnes Bell, 94, of Rector passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

She was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Rector.

Funeral services will be Tuesday in Fifth and Pine Church of Christ at 10 a.m. with Ken Roden officiating and burial to follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-9 in Mitchell Funeral Home at Rector.

Betty Ann Busch

POCAHONTAS — Betty Ann Busch, 65, died Tuesday, July 8, in St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward John and June Louise Drew Jones; and a sister, Mary.

Survivors include her husband, Gary; two sons, William Busch of Germany and Gary Busch II of Pocahontas; a daughter, April Henderson of Pocahontas; a brother, John Jones of Ravenden Springs; 11 grandchildren, Candie, Christine, Christopher, Tarina, Nicholas, Willi, Stephan, Phillip, Heidi, Joseph and Brandon; and a great-grandchild, Hunter.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in New Hope Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Wallace officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.
