Pearlie Agnes Underwood

JONESBORO — Pearlie Agnes Truitt Underwood, 86, of Jonesboro died Friday, July 18, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church. She was a member and Past Royal Matron of Queen Ann Court No. 8 Order of the Ameranth.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Underwood; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Underwood of Las Vegas and Edward Lewis Underwood of Jonesboro; daughter, Katrie Lynn McLendon of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; two brothers, Charles Truitt of Middletown, Ind., and Marshall Truitt of Slash Branch, Ky.; sister, Hannah Elam of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Cynthia Bentley Truitt; three brothers, Arthur, Moody, and Albert Truitt, and two sisters, Elsie Fannin and Sylvia Sexton.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Deborah Nissen officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kasey, Korey, Jerry, and Kevin Underwood, Jerry McLendon and Charles Truitt.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 in Emerson Funeral Home.

Those wishing to leave lasting memorials are asked to consider Order of the Ameranth Diabetes. Fund.

James Edward Anderson

March 30, 1949-July 13, 2008

OSCEOLA — James Edward Anderson, 59, of Osceola died July 13 at Little Rock.

Survivors include his wife, Odessa Anderson of Osceola; children, Quinzetta Haney of England, Waymon Haney of Mobile, Ala., Keith Wallade of Dayside, Texas, James Edward Anderson Jr. of Dallas, Chiquita, Anderson, Joie Watkins, Regina Watkins, Kevin Baker, LaJalen Anderson, Jameian Anderson and Javion Anderson, all of Osceola; siblings, Gloria Anderson of Osceola, Dorothy Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., Joyce Daniels and Lloyd Anderson Sr., both of Tulsa, Okla.; 23 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday in Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Wilson’s Osceola Funeral Home.

Jeffrey Cope

BLYTHEVILLE — Jeffrey Cope, 45, died Monday, July 21, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Lyman Hagen

JONESBORO — Dr. Lyman B. Hagen, 86, of Jonesboro died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

Born at Austin, Minn., and raised in Everett, Wash., Dr. Hagen lived in Washington before moving to Jonesboro in 1969. He was a professor emeritus of English at Arkansas State University and also retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Dr. Hagen was a World War II veteran and had 30 years total active and reserve military service.

Dr. Hagen earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. from the University of Portland. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at Jonesboro and a member of American Association of University Professors. He was a founding member and past president of the ASU chapter of the AAUP. He held memberships in military Officers of America Association, American Legion, Elks, VFW and Friends of the Library.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Hagen.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Louise “Terry” and David Bullock of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Alvin G. “Gerald” Hagen of Albuquerque, N.M.; granddaughter, Elizabeth Louise “Ellie” Bullock of Columbus; nephew, Mark; and four nieces, Janet, Carol, Joan and Jean.

A funeral Mass will be Wednesday morning at 10 in Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Mark Wood officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Everett.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 in Emerson Funeral Home followed by a rosary service at 7.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Dr. Lyman B. and Patricia L. Hagen Endowment, c/o Craighead County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 4033, Jonesboro 72403.

Following the funeral mass, the family will host a luncheon and receive friends at the Oaks Restaurant inside the Holiday Inn beginning at noon. All friends are welcome.

Carlos Hollis Sr.

PARAGOULD — Carlos Hollis Sr., 84, of Paragould died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at his home.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Paragould. Mr. Hollis was a retired builder and real estate broker and the oldest member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church, having been a charter member in 1936.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Laura Hollis; four brothers, Howard, Jewell, Jesse and John Hollis; and two sisters, Doris Case and Margarite Hensley.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wava Robinson Hollis, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carletta and Garry Carr of Houston, Texas, and Cindy and Richard Brummett of Paragould; a son and daughter-in-law Winston Hollis Jr. and his wife, Peggy Hollis of Paragould; nine grandchildren, Debra Witcher and her husband Stacy, Kelly Clayton and her husband Frank, Lindsay Brummett, Michael Hollis and his wife Jennifer, and Sheri Lenderman and her husband Shannon, all of Paragould, Aaron Hollis, Amy Brown and her husband Thad, all of Augusta, Ga., Laura Carr, Lynn Carr and his wife Presha, all of Houston; and 10 great-grandchildren, David and Kegan Clayton, Carleigh and Justin Hollis, Clayton and Colton Lenderman, and Nina Witcher, all of Paragould, Davis Brown of Augusta, and Kaylyn and Keely Carr of Houston.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Linwood Cemetery with Michael Sutton officiating.

Pallbearers will include Rick Walker, Phillip Myles, Chuck Boone, Rob McClung, Jeff Boone and Jay Boone.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carol Darter and Chris Christian.

Visitation will be from 6-9 this evening at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

The family requests that memorials be made to Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church building fund.

Bud Kelley

MANILA — Bud Kelley, 75, of Manila died Saturday at his home.

He served in the U.S. Army, was a retired farmer and a member of First Assembly of God in Manila.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Russell Kelley of the home, and one daughter, Charlotte Kelley of Manila.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Howard Funeral Service Chapel at Manila. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mark P. Miller Sr.

July 29, 1922-July 19, 2008

HARDY — Mark P. Miller Sr., 85, of Hardy died Saturday at White River Medical Center at Batesville.

Survivors include his son, Mark Miller Jr. of Hardy; daughter, Mary Powell of Ozark Acres; sister, Mary Hensley of Ash Flat; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Anna Bredfelt Miller; wife, Geraldine Miller and one sister.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Tri-County’s Highland Funeral Home with burial in Baker Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 at the funeral home.

Hannah Pewitte

Oct. 30, 1937-July 15, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Hannah Pewitte, 70, of Nashville, Tenn., died Tuesday.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, John L. Pewitte of Jackson, Tenn.; children, Ellan Mae Dotson of Jackson, Hydridece Smith of Sardis, Miss.; Juanita Lee of Phoenix, Ariz., James L. Cole of Luxora and Danny Oneal Cook of Osceola; siblings, Herman D. Williams of Burlington, Iowa, Albert Jr. Smith of Jonesboro, Betty J. Willis and Sarah B. Riley, both of Luxora; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. in Wilson’s Osceola Funeral Home with burial in Sandy Ridge Cemetery at Burdette.

Doyle Gene Pickett

Aug. 24, 1946-July 21, 2008

HARDY — Doyle Gene Pickett, 61, of Hardy died Monday.

Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl Foley of Thayer, Mo., Peggy Long and Lisa Ladd, both of Hardy; mother, Katherine Pickett of Imboden; brothers, Kenneth Pickett of Conway and Phillip Pickett of Hardy; sisters, Linda Briggs of Missouri, Darlene Dearen and Connie Morgan, both of Imboden; half-brothers, Bruce Pickett of Missouri and Calvin Pickett of Williford; half-sister, Rhonda Despain of Williford; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be Wednesday morning at 10 in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in Tri-County’s Highland Funeral Home.
