Curtis Vandergriff
POCAHONTAS — Curtis Vandergriff, 89, passed away Saturday, July 26, at his home.
He was preceded by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Faye; four sons, Leo, Perry and Roger Vandergriff, all of Pocahontas, and Leonard Vandergriff of Fairfield Bay; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was a member of Church of God and a minister for 60 years.
Visitation will be Monday night from 5-8 in the McNabb Funeral Home chapel.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel with Carl Massey officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery.
James Ken Anderson
LITTLE ROCK — James Ken Anderson, 43, of Little Rock went to his eternal rest Friday, July 25.
He was born Dec. 5, 1964, in Stuttgart. James’ free spirit and love for life will be missed by all. “Live today, for tomorrow may never come” was a saying he always kept near to his heart.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his life partner, Brian Cook; four-legged “girls,” Sally Anastasia and Mollie May; his father, Charles Anderson of Stuttgart; brother, Ray Anderson of Stuttgart; sister, Lisa Harrell of Jonesboro; niece, Cecily Summers Anderson of Stuttgart; nieces, Tara Kay and Shawna Harrell of Jonesboro; nephew, Wesley Harrell of Jonesboro; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pat Anderson of Stuttgart; grandparents, Lee and Ruby Anderson of Stuttgart and Bill and Grace Williams of Brinkley.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.

Allen Wayne Dortch
TRUMANN — Allen Wayne Dortch, 61, of Trumann, formerly of Red Onion, Mo., died Friday, July 25, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Born May 29, 1947, in Paragould, he was a retired gunsmith.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Odom officiating. Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 6-9 in Mitchell Funeral Home.
Raymond Charles England Jr.
PARAGOULD — Raymond Charles England Jr., 35, of Paragould died Friday as a result of an automobile accident.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Heath Funeral Home.
James Richard Garner
PARKIN — James Richard Garner, 76, of Parkin died Friday, July 25, 2008.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1932. He grew up in Earle and spent his summers with his Uncle Robert Munn’s family on their farm on the Cross County-St. Francis County line. He graduated from Earle High School, where he played football for the Earle Bulldogs and was a member of the Earle Bulldog state championship team.
He served in the United States Army during the 
Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant. He sold construction equipment for both John Deere and Case for more than 30 years.
After retiring from Potter Equipment Co. in Harrison, he returned to his lifetime passion of farming. He was baptized in the Baptist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, James Steve and Lottie M. Garner of West Memphis, and his sister, Mary Helen Garner of Hurst, Texas.
Survivors include his daughter, Janet L. Garner of Little Rock; his son, Jim H. Garner and his wife Dania of Little Rock; his four granddaughters, Jett, Greylin, Reagan and Audrey Garner; a sister, Jewel Curtis of Dallas; his first wife, Bobbye Hydrick Garner Floyd of Little Rock; two nieces; one nephew; his many cousins; and friends.
Visitation is Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. in Kernodle Funeral Home at Wynne.
Graveside service is 10 a.m. Wednesday in Cogbill Cemetery
at Wynne with the Rev. Johnny Green officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the East Central Arkansas Regional Library in Wynne or just help someone in need in memory of our father.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jake Cathey, Thomas Munn, James Cathey, all our father’s friends, our friends and family who provided us with their prayers, comfort and support during our father’s illness.

Anna Flora Guard
CARDWELL, Mo. — Anna Flora Guard, 94, of Cardwell died Friday, July 25, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Anna was retired from the Arbyrd Compress and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include six nieces and six nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Martin Guard; parents, Florian and Mary Ungerank Martin; brothers, Florian and Albert Martin; and sisters, Emma Martin, Frances DeBons and Louise Martin.
Rosary services will be tonight at 7 in Heath Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m. following the rosary.
Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Matt Garrison officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family has requested that memorials be sent to St. Mary’s School Trust Fund or the Catholic Newman Center, 2800 East Johnson Ave., Jonesboro 72401.

JONESBORO — Ed Larson, 71, of Jonesboro died Saturday at his home.

Mary Hazel McCorkle
TYRONZA — Mary Hazel McCorkle, 89, of Tyronza passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at NEA Baptist Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her husband, Press McCorkle; her son, Lester McCorkle; her daughter, Brenda McCorkle; and her granddaughter, Suzy Yeakley.
She is survived by four daughters, Wanza Fritz and her husband Charlie of Trumann, Martha Bales and her husband Buster of Trumann, Pat Daniels and her husband Henry of Tyronza and Joyce Wilson and her husband Gene of Tyronza; two sons, Larry McCorkle and his wife Kim of Calico Rock and Ronald McCorkle and his wife Karen of Wynne; one sister, Rachel Young of Marked Tree; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Saturday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis.
The service will be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of the funeral home with interment following in Tyronza Cemetery.
Brian Keith McKenney
RECTOR — Brian Keith McKenney, 35, of Rector passed away at his home Friday, July 25, 2008.
He is survived by his parents, Lowell and Deanne McKenney of Rector; one brother, Delayne McKenney and wife Patricia of Newport; one sister, Lynnette Beard and husband Mike of Newport; nephew, Alex McKenney of Newport; and grandmother, Opal McKenney of Piggott.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:30 a.m. in First General Baptist Church at Rector. Burial will follow in Piggott Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in the church. Irby Funeral Home in Rector is in charge of arrangements.

BENTON — Mary Sue Redd of Benton, formerly of Harrisburg, departed this life on Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Benton at the age of 91.

Jack F. Riggins
JONESBORO — Col. Jack F. Riggins, retired, 90, of Jonesboro went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 24, 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Sue Allen Riggins; daughter, Suzanne Haug and her husband Helmuth of Kansas City, Mo.; and a son, John Riggins and his wife Nadalyn of Little Rock. He is also survived by his sisters, Claudine Morgan of Dallas and Francille Seymour of Hope; and a brother, William S. Riggins of Hot Springs.
Jack was the epitome of Tom Brokaw’s Greatest Generation. Born at Buckner on Jan. 20, 1918, Jack graduated from Henderson State Teachers College in 1941 and received a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Upon graduation, he also married his sweetheart, Mary Sue Allen of Arkadelphia. At the outset of World War II, he volunteered as a paratrooper in the famed 101st Airborne Division and jumped behind enemy lines the morning of D-Day.
Jack went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge and ultimately helped liberate a concentration camp in Germany at the end of the war.
Jack continued serving his country with a career spanning 33 years, including tours of duty in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and assignments to the Pentagon and the National War College. His decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, four Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart and the Silver Star, America’s third-highest award for valor.
Jack’s greatest accomplishment and his greatest joy, however, was his family. He was “Daddy Jack” to his four grandchildren, Stephanie, Kimberly, Melissa and John Allen. He loved fishing and spending time with his sisters and their husbands and his brother. He especially enjoyed playing practical jokes on his brothers-in-law and his grandchildren, earning him the nickname “rascal.”
Jack’s service to others and his love of laughter drew people to him. His was a life well lived.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Rose Hill Cemetery
at Arkadelphia. The Rev. Stan Parris will officiate.
