Shirley Rachel Pruitt

JONESBORO — Shirley Rachel Pruitt, 66, of Jonesboro died Friday morning, Aug. 8, at Ridgecrest Health and Rehab.

She was born at Jonesboro and had lived here her entire life. She was a member of Nettleton United Methodist Church. She was a retired cafeteria worker from ASU who loved reading, going to the library, coin collecting, watching television and especially buying jewelry from QVC.

Ms. Pruitt is survived by her sisters, Teresa Marie Hardman of Acworth, Ga., and Marion Eloise Holland of Jonesboro; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Eunice Rodgers Pruitt.

Graveside services will be held Monday afternoon at 3 in Nettleton Cemetery. Harmon Whitehurst will officiate and Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held Monday afternoon from 1-2 in the funeral home.

Juanita ‘Pete’ Sanderson

CARAWAY — Juanita “Pete” Sanderson died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.

She was born at Caraway to the late Harry and Katie May Ray and was a member of Caraway First United Methodist Church. She worked at Caraway School for 12 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, John A. “Dutch” Sanderson; one sister; and four brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Katie Sanderson of Caraway; one son, John Sanderson of Tumbling Shoals; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday in Caraway First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Beverly Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Caraway Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Philip Horton, Gary Buchanan, Gale Yates, Terry Smith, Herbert Brewer and Michael Crosbey.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 6-8 p.m. in Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Jerry Smith

WYNNE — Jerry Smith, 68, of Wynne passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, at Wynne.

Funeral services are Monday at 10 a.m. in Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel at Wynne with burial in Vanndale Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 in Kernodle Funeral Home.

Sharon Yvonne Stacey

PARAGOULD — Sharon Yvonne Stacey, 64, of Paragould died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born Nov. 20, 1943, at Paragould, she was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Reba Huffman of Paragould; one son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Cindy Markum of Pocahontas; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Kerwin Hurt of Paragould; one brother, Raymond Huffman of Paragould; three sisters, Bonnie Speaks, Gloria “Glenda” Stanfill and Gail McConnaughhay, all of Paragould; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Huffman; and one son, Jerry Markum.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Mary Wagner

IMBODEN — Mary Wagner, 45, died Friday, Aug. 8, at Pocahontas.

She was preceded in death by parents, Theodore and Tona Ring Kildow; brother, Gene; and one infant brother.

Survivors include daughters, Annie Dillon, Rachael Thomas, Marie Wagner and June Wagner, all of Clinton, Mo.; sisters, Rena Kildow of Mississippi and Sharon Daniels of Wisconsin; and brothers, Jerry Kildow of Ravenden and Tom Kildow of Gatesville, Texas.

The body was cremated. Arrangements are by House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.

A memorial service will be today at 2 p.m. in Imboden Church of Christ with Wayne Herring officiating.

The family requests no flowers.

Earnest White

Aug. 7, 1957-Aug. 2, 2008

OSCEOLA — Earnest White, 50, of Osceola died Aug. 2 at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn White; daughters, Takelia Ingram, Stephanie White and Tiffany Mosley; son, Vincent Cassidy White; stepdaughter, Ashley Smith; stepson, Bryan Smith; sisters, Annie Mitchell, Evette Hill, Karen Devers, Linda White and Bobbie Anderson; brothers, Ivory, Jimmy, Terry, Charles, Kenneth and Vincent White and LaMarcus Ewing; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in Wilson Funeral Home at Osceola.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John Full Gospel with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating and burial in Rivercrest Gardens.

Herbert Blalock

JONESBORO — Herbert Blalock, 78, of Jonesboro died Aug. 9 at his home after a brave battle against lung cancer.

He was born in 1930 and raised in Bay, graduating from Bay High School. He continued to live and farm in Bay until he left in 1951 to serve his country as a sergeant in the Korean War. After returning home, he continued farming until 1970 when he began a career in real estate development.

Along with his brother James A., he founded Blalock Brothers Enterprises and became a prominent developer in the area, building and developing subdivisions, homes, apartments, post offices and other commercial buildings in Bay, Jonesboro and throughout Northeast Arkansas.

In addition to his business, Herbert was involved in the community, serving as a scoutmaster and participating in numerous fund-raisers for the Boy Scouts. He also served on the Jonesboro Metropolitan Area Planning Commission for many years.

Herbert has always been a Christian, but recently rededicated his life to Christ by being baptized at First Baptist Church of Bay where he was a member. Herbert lived and demonstrated his Christian faith through the generous helping hand, or advice he was always willing to offer to anyone in need.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Ritter Blalock of the home; his daughter, Joan McGill of Little Rock; two sons and their wives, James and Melanie Blalock of Olive Branch, Miss., and Joseph and Karen Blalock of Jonesboro; five sisters, Laura Inboden and Jennie Penn of Jonesboro, Madean Dubus of Texas, Jimmie Kohler of California and Sue Pace of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Lily and Mia Blalock and Bryce James of Jonesboro, Lauren and Hannah Blalock of Olive Branch, and Ike and Jake McGill of Little Rock; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Laura Turner Blalock; two brothers, James A. and George Blalock; and four sisters, Mary Blalock, Lula Mae Glover, Amelia Lewis and Jane Johnston.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Deacon Vic Stepka and Danny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Active pallbearers will be Herbert’s nephews: Steve Inboden, Victor Holt, Jerry Glover, David Schwarz, Ed Way, Tony Bari, Jim Bryant and Jerry Barnes.

Honorary pallbearers will include Charles Inboden, Lynn Scott, Mike Bradford, Howard Headrick, Wilburn Spencer, Brooks Griffith, Hubert Brodell, Harry Darby, Jay Goodman, Bill Hansard, Vernon Henson and James Peachy.

Visitation will be from 5-7 tonight in Emerson Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration for lasting memorials be given to First Baptist Church of Bay, P.O. Box 190, Bay 72411, or to the Home Health Professionals and Hospice Inc., 2222 Spence Circle, Jonesboro.

The family would also like to express special thanks to Dr. James Murray and the nurses of Home Health Professionals and Hospice Inc. for their dedicated care.

Melba Boston

May 9, 1921-Aug. 10, 2008

NEWPORT — Melba Boston, 87, of Newport died Sunday.

She was born at Marcella, the daughter of Herman and Nellie Hess. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Shelby; son, Danny of Little Rock; daughter, Ann Boston of Newport; brother, Herman Hess of New Jersey; and sister, Mary Conner of Augusta.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday from noon until service time.

Arrangements by Jack­son’s Newport Funeral Home.

Kenneth Charles Casey I

ARMOREL — Kenneth Charles Casey I, 56, of Armorel died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at his residence in Armorel.

Survivors include wife, Garcia Casey; children, “Charley” and Leighann Casey and Chad Casey; granddaughter, Madelyn Brooke Casey; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Judy Casey; sisters and brother-in-law, Charlene Winkler and Kay and Carl Pepple; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gaylon and Beverly Williams.

Services are Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Dogwood Cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8 in Cobb Funeral Home.
