Glenda Faye Carroll
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Glenda Faye Meares Carroll, 64, of Champaign, Ill., formerly of Paragould, died Sunday.
She was a missionary and member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include her husband, Junior Carroll; two sons, James (Elizabeth) Carroll of Champaign, and Keith (Amy) Carroll of Murrieta, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Ryan, Abby, Nathan and Shane.
Visitation will be this evening from 6-9 in Mitchell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Benny Isom officiating. Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery.
Linda Herndon
JONESBORO — Linda Herndon, 64, of Jonesboro died Aug. 15, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
She had lived all of her life here and enjoyed traveling, reading and her computer. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Linda is survived by her son, Dale Herndon, and daughter, Tammy Herndon, both of Jonesboro, and a brother, Woody Barnett of Pontotoc, Miss.
All services will be private with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Sara Meek
PARAGOULD — Sara Meek, 70, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.
Born in Jonesboro, she was a retired registered nurse.
She is survived by two daughters, Teahna Goodson of Mammoth Spring and Terrie Meek of Paragould; two sons, Danny Meek of Little Rock and Brett Meek of Greenbrier; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery
at Jonesboro with the Rev. Paul Carlin officiating under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Charles Morphis
JONESBORO — Charles Eugene Morphis, 92, of Jonesboro passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at his home.
He was born in Pocahontas, Tenn., April 1, 1916, to Charles and Ida Morphis. Mr. Morphis was a manufacturer’s representative and habadasher with Langenburg Hat Co., where he designed hats for stars such as Elvis, Charlie Daniels and Loretta Lynn among many others.
He was a Mason and former president of U.S. Men’s and Boy’s Apparel Club. He was a sergeant in the Army, serving in World War II, and was awarded five battle stars. He was a proud patriot and member of Walnut Street Baptist Church.
He leaves behind his two sons, Gene Morphis of Ambler, Pa., and Gary Morphis of New Orleans; a daughter, Stephanie Wilbanks of Jonesboro; two brothers, Leonard Morphis of Selmer, Tenn., and Rayde Morphis of Pocahontas; two sisters, Maxine Firnhaber of Huntington, Ind., and Sadie Foster of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren, Blane, Misty, Blake, Josalyn, Cree, Jillian and Dusty; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zachery and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel, beginning at 11 a.m., with Glen Putman officiating. Burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be held this evening from 5-8 in the funeral home.
Family members will serve as active pallbearers.
Memorials can be made to The Salvation Army and Walnut Street Baptist Church.
T.C. Pulley
UNION CITY, Ind. — Tracy “T.C.” Pulley, 72, of Union City, Ind., passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2008.
Survivors include his companion, Shirley Minnich of Union City; sons, Tracy and Donny Pulley of Greenwood, Ind., and Dennis Pulley of Indianapolis; daughters, Lora Shaneyfelt of Winchester, Roxanne Rechliez of Chesterton, Ind., and Traci Leeann Pulley of Jasper, Tenn.; brother, Rodney Pulley of Malvern; sister, Clyda Parrish of Wynne; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and friends, Larry and Nancy Clark of Sommerville, Ala.
Services will be this morning at 11 in Kernodle Funeral Home with burial in Lewis Cemetery
at Hickory Ridge.
Visitation will be from 9 until service time.
James Franklin Snellgrove Jr.
JONESBORO — James Franklin Snellgrove Jr., 87, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at his home.
He was born in Wadley, Ga., to James Franklin Snellgrove Sr. and Norma Smith Snellgrove. Frank was of the Protestant belief and was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Betty Grace Snellgrove; his parents; and one sister, Norma Mace.
Frank graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1939, entered Arkansas State College, then was inducted into the armed forces.
In 1940 he joined the National Guard. He was also a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in World War II. He served more than four years in the 206th Coast Artillery, Battery C.
Battery C was one of several batteries comprising the 20th Coast Artillery and was made up of primarily Arkansas State College students. The group left Jonesboro on Jan. 6, 1941, for El Paso, Texas, for training before going to Dutch Harbor in the Aleutians.
The Japanese attacked Dutch Harbor on June 3, 1942. He flew 52 missions from a B-25 Mitchell bomber. During his 
military service he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and eight air medals.
Upon completion of his military career, he re-entered Arkansas State College, graduated and also graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School in 1948.
He entered into a law partnership in Jonesboro in 1953 with George David Walker and Charles Frierson Jr. Frank continued to practice law for 55 years until his health started to decline.
Frank was very active in community service and was a member of the Battery “C” 206th, the Arkansas Bar Association, American Bar Association, was a past state representative from 1949-55, past president of the Jonesboro Kiwanis Club, past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, past president of the Veterans of Foreign War Post and a special justice for the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1977.
Surviving are his wife, Jerry K. Snellgrove of the home; two children, Pamela Ann Huffer and James Scott Snellgrove, both of Jonesboro; one sister, Dibby Wolfe of La Jolla, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Marcus Huffer, Cassie Huffer, Jamie Jo Ragsdale, Dawn Mitchell, Franklin Sloan Snellgrove, Padgett Grace Snellgrove and Thomas Cole Snellgrove; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Frank will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Emerson Chapel with the Rev. Emil Williams officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private.

Virginia Todd
PENNINGTON — Mrs. Virginia Todd, 75, of Pennington died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Jonesboro.
She is survived by her husband, John Todd of Pennington; three stepsons, Jerry Todd and wife, Liz, of Grubbs, Johnny Todd of Chicago and James Todd and wife, Andrea, of Phoenix; one stepdaughter, Virginia Diane Smith of Virginia; seven stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Pennington Church of Christ with interment in Pennington Cemetery
under the direction of Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.
Visitation will be this evening from 5-7.
Neva Coggins
CARAWAY — Neva Lynn Coggins, 76, of Caraway died Tuesday evening, Aug. 19, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Born at Heber Springs, Neva moved to Caraway in 1952 where she lived most of her adult life. She was a homemaker and a member of Mangrum Church of Christ.
Neva was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Coggins; and by two brothers, Aubrey Donn and John Dove.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Boyce Coggins of the home; one daughter, Robin Harper of Caraway; five sons, Danny Coggins of Huntsville, Greg Coggins of Tallahassee, Fla., Tim Coggins of Paragould and Brock Coggins and John Coggins, both of Caraway; one sister, Florence Bittle of California; one brother, Edward Dove of Washington; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 in Caraway Cemetery
with Millard Scott officiating. Sons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held tonight from 5-8 in Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Hannah Elizabeth Dement
CORNING — Hannah Elizabeth Dement, 1, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, at her home from Krabbe’s disease.
She was born Aug. 18, 2007, at Newport.
Survivors include her parents, Joshua and Kristie Rapert Dement; and grandparents, Richard and Deanna Rapert of Pocahontas, and David and Lisa Dement of Imboden. Great-grandparents include Howard and Patsy Rapert, and Karen Smith, all of Pocahontas, John and Donna Utnaug of Imboden, Jere and Margaret Whiteside of Cherokee Village, and Doug Dement of Nashville, Tenn.
Great-great-grandparents are Geneva Utnaug and Ruth Menard, both of Pocahontas.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery
with Gerald Fears, Ralph Wallis and John Binkley officiating.
Pallbearers will be Cliff Henary, Brian Dement, Jack Rapert and Ben Rapert.
Visitation will be this evening from 5-8 in the funeral home.
Donations will be accepted through the Hunter’s Hope Foundation.
