Jimmy Joe Robinson

EULESS, Texas — Jimmy Joe Robinson, 59, of Euless died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at his home of natural causes.

Born in Lunsford, Jimmy grew up in the Trumann-Lunsford area and was a 1967 graduate of Lake City High School. He worked in Jonesboro in printing before moving in 1983 to Dallas, where he continued to work in the printing industry. He was working for Padgett Printing in Dallas at the time of his death.

Jimmy was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member the Lake City Masonic Lodge. He was a Christian and was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Frieda Pearson Robinson, and a brother, Coy Robinson, all of Lunsford.

Jimmy was loved dearly by his survivors, who include one son, Scott Robinson of Euless; daughter, Julie Withaeger and her husband Mike of Perrin, Texas; two grandchildren, Kent and Matthew Withaeger, both of Perrin, Texas; and former wife, Peggy LaFon of Fort Worth, Texas.

Also surviving are brothers, Julius Pearson and family of California, Bill Robinson and wife Lorrie of Harrisburg, Dewey Robinson and wife Sharon of Trumann and John Robinson of Bay, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and many wonderful friends and co-workers.

He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at 3 in Emerson Funeral Home Memorial Chapel at Jonesboro with the Rev. Danny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Lambert, Larry Smith, Rick Thomas, Doug Thomas, Roy LaFon and Michael Withaeger.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 in Emerson Funeral Home at Jonesboro.

For those wishing to honor Jimmy in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider a donation to the Pine Log Cemetery.

Bob Ryan

JONESBORO — Bob Ryan, 70, of Jonesboro died Friday afternoon at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home.

Michelle Whalls

PLANO, Texas — Michelle Renee Pogue Whalls, 49, of Plano, formerly of Piggott, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.

Survivors include her husband, Mark; a stepson, Marc Whalls; her mother, Jacquelyn Pogue; sisters, Mary Lee Lytle of Little Rock and Melanie Pogue of Piggott; and a granddaughter, Katriana Whalls.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church at Piggott.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Kaye/Bassman Foundation, Preston Parkway South, 4965 Preston Parkway Blvd., Fourth Floor, Plano 75093.

Alberta Fagan Edmondson

JONESBORO — Alberta Fagan Edmondson, 91, of Jonesboro died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Jonesboro.

Mrs. Edmondson was a native of Marshall County, Tenn., and was a teacher and author who wrote and published several books.

Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Bullock and Lou Ellen Edmondson, both of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Betty Welker of Jonesboro; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home, Chapel Hill, Tenn., (931) 364-2233. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery at Chapel Hill.

Edna B. Foster

Jan. 27, 1906-Aug. 29, 2008

POCAHONTAS — Edna B. Foster, 102, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., passed away on Friday at Randolph County Nursing Home.

She was born at Eleven Point, the daughter of the late James Walter and Harriett Stubblefield England. She was a graduate of Maynard Baptist Academy and attended Harding College at Morrilton and Arkansas A&M College at Jonesboro.

She was married to C.R. “Pete” Foster on Dec. 19, 1925, at Pocahontas. They both taught school in Arkansas until 1935, when they moved to Sikeston. They were in the grocery business for many years.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Sikeston. She was a longtime member of the Sikeston Business and Professional Woman’s Club and the Sikeston chapter of 137 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a gray lady at the Missouri Delta Medical Center at Sikeston for 18 years and loved volunteering very much.

Mrs. Foster is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Betty Foster of Pocahontas; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Mindy and David Golliher of Atlanta and Dr. Beverly Foster and T. Martin Davis of Little Rock; four great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Kathleen Sloan of Sikeston and Dortha Jane Hedge of Jackson, Mo.

She is preceded in death by her husband, C.R. “Pete” Foster; and one brother, James W. England.

Graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Foster Cemetery at Maynard with Fred Hunter officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Sam Spencer Gossage

LEPANTO — Sam Spencer Gossage, 80, of Lepanto died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at SMC Regional Medical Center at Osceola.

Mr. Gossage was born March 7, 1928, at Cash. He farmed in the Lepanto area most of his life. He was “Pa Sam” to everyone who knew and loved him. You could see him walking all over town and stopping to visit occasionally with friends. He will truly be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Pearl Gossage; and two brothers, Georgie and Robert Gossage.

Survivors include his wife, “Ma” Ruth Gossage; son, Donald Gossage; daughter, Betty Mason, all of the home; son, Bobby and wife Patty Gossage of Lepanto; three brothers, Eddie and Mack Gossage of St. Louis and Jerry Gossage of Senatobia, Miss.; two sisters, Belle Brown of St. Louis and Ovie Jamison of Fisher; three granddaughters, Julie Rosamond and Donna Jones, both of Lepanto, and Tanya Gossage of Blytheville; two grandsons, Mitchell Mason of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Christopher Gossage of the home; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. in Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto with Pastor Gary Finley officiating. Burial will follow in Potter Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bob Smith, Bo Jones, Ian Rosamond, Corey Randall, Johnny Gossage and Randy Whitlow.

Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Rosamond and Christopher Gossage.

Mary Evelyn Johnson

TRUMANN — Mary Evelyn Johnson, 72, of Trumann died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include ex-husband, William S. “Bill” Johnson; daughter, Doris Ellen Miller of Trumann; sons, Stanley Ray Loudermilk of Fairview, Okla., and Brian Loudermilk of West Memphis; sisters, Ruby Gosa and Inez Eldridge, both of Trumann, Wilma Fisher of Jonesboro and Diane Butler of Paragould; grandchildren, Mary Miller of Jonesboro and Derrick Loudermilk of Fairview; and great-grandchild, Talon Austin Loudermilk of Fairview.

Visitation will be from 2-6 tonight in Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Living Waters Church at Trumann with burial in Tyronza Cemetery.

Bob Ryan

JONESBORO — Bob Ryan, 70, of Jonesboro died Friday, Aug. 29, at NEA Baptist Hospital at Jonesboro.

A native and lifelong resident of Jonesboro, Bob formerly farmed and operated Ryan’s Seed and Feed in Jonesboro, but for the last several years was a Crye-Leike Realtor in Jonesboro.

Bob was a member of Christian Valley Christian Church, a 1957 graduate of Valley View High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Arkansas National Guard. He was a past president of the Valley View School Board and a past member of the Valley View Ruritan Club. Bob was a member of the Jonesboro Board of Realtors, Arkansas Real Estate Association and the National Association of Realtors.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Neva McDaniel Gilbert; his grandmother, Dicie McDaniel; sister, Betty Peterson; and brother, John Ryan.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Stacy Ryan Shelton and Ron Shelton of Jonesboro; son, Randall Ryan of Monette; his father and stepmother, Evans H. and Wanda Ryan of Chaffee, Mo.; two sisters, Carol Ryan Cannon of Chaffee and Pat Doty of Salem; three brothers, Larry Gilbert of Russellville, David Gilbert of Carlsbad, N.M., and Donny Gilbert of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Ryan Shelton, Reid Shelton, Andrea Crawford, Amanda Ryan, Michael Ryan and Brittany Ryan; and two great-grandchildren, Noah Cook and Bailey Crawford.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 in McDaniel Cemetery with David Gibson officiating.

Active pallbearers include Jim Turney, Kagle Huff, Jack Wright, Steve Heath, Larry Sharp and Jim Davidson.

Honorary pallbearers include Crye-Leike Realty Associates; doctors, nurses and staff of NEA Baptist Hospital; Joyce Files; Steve Ryan; Grover Cooper; and members of the Valley View High School 1956 Basketball State Championship team.

Visitation will be held tonight from 5:30-8 in Emerson Funeral Home Chapel.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Bob Ryan Scholarship Fund at Valley View Schools, c/o Radius Baker, 2131 Valley View Drive, Jonesboro 72404.

John Simpson

PIGGOTT — John Simpson, 88, of Piggott died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Campbell, Mo.

Survivors include his daughter, Belinda Simpson of North Little Rock; stepdaughter, Joyce Morgan; stepson, J.W. Briggins; granddaughter, Lisa; brothers, J.B. Simpson of Manila and Morris Simpson Jr. of Jacksonville; and sisters, Nella Lee of Blytheville and Guelda Deason of Texas.

Services are Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with burial in Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will begin Tuesday at 11 a.m. until service time.

Gary Raymond Dennis

April 11, 1950-Aug. 30, 2008

MCCRORY — Gary Raymond Dennis, 58, formerly of Colt, died Saturday at McCrory.

He was born at Wynne, the son of Wilson and Helen Fanning Dennis.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Androff of Heber Springs; mother, Helen Dennis of Colt; brothers, Bobby Dennis of Colt and John Dennis of Lake City; sisters, Sandra Bryan of Forrest City and Pat Mitchell of Wynne; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Loughridge Cemetery at Colt. Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home, (870) 238-9400, has charge of arrangements.
