Vance Edward Simelton

LITTLE ROCK — Dr. Vance Edward Simelton of Little Rock, formerly of Marked Tree, died Wednesday, Sept. 3.

He was retired director of talent search for University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a deacon of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He grew up in Memphis.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Dobbins Simelton; son, Anthony Simelton; grandchildren, D’Andre, Eric, Kevin and William; daughter-in-law, Tammi Coakley Simelton; and sisters, Evia Moore and Jamie Simelton.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 1400 Ringo St., Little Rock.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5-7 at the church.

Arrangements are with Brown’s Christian Funeral Service, (501) 244-8000.

Evert Charles Stephens

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Evert Charles Stephens, 88, of Woodbridge died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008.

Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Lois Davis Stephens; one daughter, Virginia Marie Stephens; his stepson, Wesley David Davis; three grandchildren, Katrina Rose Pazmino, Gabrielle Pazmino and Joshua Davis; one great-grandchild, Ella Fay Davis; in-laws he loved as his own children, Barbara Davis, Joy Davis and Steve Pazmino; and two siblings, Wayne Stephens and Claira Ball.

Graveside services will be at noon Monday in Walnut Grove Cemetery with visitation Sunday evening from 6-8.

Arrangements are by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Homer Ray Calaway

April 6, 1967-Sept. 6, 2008

JONESBORO — Homer Ray Calaway, 41, of Jonesboro died Saturday at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

Born at Forrest City, he was a registered nurse for Nurse Choice.

Calaway is survived by his wife, Sherry; two daughters, Amanda Lauren and Leah Nicole Calaway of Jonesboro; mother, Jean Harris Woods; stepdad, Sam; brother, John Wayne and Gina Calaway Jr.; niece, Meghan; Aunt Dollie Griffin; several cousins; and one grandmother, Margarite Coulter of Batesville.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home with Steve Mabry and John Lindsey. Interment in Bay Village Cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8.

Janey Clark

PARAGOULD — Janey Clark, 67, of Paragould died Saturday, Sept. 6.

She is survived by sisters, Diane Vaughn, Joy Deom, Judy Miller, Joan Hayes and Sue Clark; brother, Donald R. McCormick; niece, Katrina Wilson; nephew, Clinton Sharp; great-niece, Samantha Dunn; and several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight in Heath Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be in Heath Colonial Chapel at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Jewell Locke Davis

BLYTHEVILLE — Jewell Locke Davis, 84, of Blytheville died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008.

Survivors include children, Donald Wayne of Blytheville, Virgil Locke, Johnnie Locke, Henry Locke and Ernest Locke, all of Corning; and grandchildren, Donna Fincher of Jonesboro, Michael Davis of Cabot, Chris Davis of Conway, Sheila Thomas, Sherri Davis Larkin and Renita Davis Sprouse, all of Blytheville.

Services are Monday at 2 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel at Blytheville with the Rev. Gary Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 tonight in the funeral home.

George Terry Durham

POCAHONTAS — George Terry Durham, 71, of Pocahontas died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center at Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his father, C.W., and mother, Annie Smith Durham; and one brother, Boyce Durham.

He was born June 17, 1937. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lillian Harris Durham, on May 18, 1957, at Jesup. He worked and retired from GTE.

He was survived by his wife of the home; five children, Teresa Durham, Mitch Durham, Mark Durham and wife Jeanette, Kevin Durham and Karen Hinsley; eight grandchildren, Justin Broadway, Ashley Durham, Caleb Hinsley, Curtis Durham, Alex Durham, Zach Durham, Brady Durham and Reagan Hinsley; one sister, Kathleen Sisk of Smithville; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 in the chapel of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Eli Lindsey Methodist Church at Jesup.

James Bob Johnson

HOXIE — James Bob Johnson, 81, of Hoxie died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Born March 5, 1927, at Paragould, he was a retired farmer and construction worker and was of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James Allen and Brenda Johnson of Cudjoe Key, Fla.; three daughters and son-in-law, Diane and Tom Turner of Montgomery, Texas, Cora Lee of West Memphis and Angela of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Pat Hall of Magalia, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Esther Johnson; one son, Bobby Johnson; one brother, Sherman Johnson; and one sister, Kathleen Adams.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday night from 6-9 in Mitchell Funeral Home.

Charles Dalton Luster

JONESBORO — Charles Dalton Luster, 44, of Jonesboro died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Barnes Jewish Hospital at St. Louis.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home.

Rickey Dean Morgan

PARAGOULD — Rickey Dean Morgan, 50, of Paragould died Friday, Sept. 5, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He is survived by a son, Chad Morgan; brothers, Glenn and Charles Morgan; sisters, Linda Morgan and Carletta Thacker; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Reddick Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Rickey Morgan Funeral Fund, care of Heath Funeral Home.

Illa Dean M. Pipes

TRUMANN — Mrs. Illa Dean M. Pipes, 87, of Trumann died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Skillcare Nursing Center at Jonesboro.

She was born at Athens, Ala., and had lived most of her lifetime in Trumann. She was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Lee Pipes; one granddaughter, Donna A. Pipes; three sisters; two brothers; and her parents, James Macon Sr. and Lula Brooks McCarty.

Survivors include two daughters, Glenda L. Parsley and Brenda Creecy Pipes, both of Trumann; one son, Donnie Pipes of Trumann; one brother, James Macon McCarty Jr. of Trumann; five grandchildren, Paula Harper, Sandy Battles, Cathy McKinney, Clint Creecy and Judy Simpson; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday morning at 10 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 4-6 in Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Jane Prestidge

JONESBORO — Jane Prestidge, 81, of Jonesboro passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

She was born at Chicago on May 10, 1927, to Peter and Jennie Renkema. Ms. Prestidge was retired from Frolic Footwear, a member of Nettleton Baptist Church and loved bowling, cards and meeting with the Sunday school class ladies.

She leaves behind her sons and their wives, Larry and Dale Prestidge of Marietta, Ga., Donnie and Sherry Prestidge of Jonesboro, Bill and Brenda Prestidge of Riverside, Calif., and Danny and Pam Prestidge of Jonesboro; two daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Lloyd Frysto of Montgomery, Ill., and Nancy and Alan Royal of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother and his wife, Bob and Enid Renkema of Mesa, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin “Dean” Prestidge; a sister, Grace Fedrowitz; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Lynn.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Tuesday in Macedonia Cemetery beginning at 1 p.m. with Craig Miller officiating.

Visitation will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Lasting memorials can be made to St. Bernards Hospice.
