Charles A. Stuck

The son of Charles A. and Helen Nethery Stuck of Jonesboro, he moved to White Bear Lake, Minn., in 1965 and lived there until his death.
His only sister, Martha Nelsen of Little Rock, still lives there with her four children, David, Mike, Laura and Mark and their families.
During his 20-year association with Minnesota Life, Chuck served as vice president in charge of the individual life insurance underwriting, policy issue, medical and claims departments. He was active in local and national professional and civic organizations, among other things serving as national president of the Home Office Life Underwriters’ Association and as vice president of the St. Paul Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Chuck’s Minnesota family consists of his wife, Cynthia; along with daughters, Becky of St. Paul, Minn., and Liz of Minneapolis. Bright, affectionate and multi-talented, they were a source of great pride and pleasure to Chuck and gave back of their talents to their communities in many ways.
After service in the U.S. Navy in World War II, Chuck finished college in Arkansas, taught school for a short time, and then studied for a Ph.D. in musicology at Yale University.
Deciding against a career in research, he spent a short time on Wall Street before taking an underwriting position with Home Life of New York, a career he followed for the rest of his life.
Following in the footsteps of previous generations, Chuck studied genealogical research methods and applied them to his and Cynthia’s families, tracing most of them back to their ancestral homes in England, Wales, Germany and France. Since travel was an important part of his business, he was able to add extra time to company trips and do research in many American and European facilities.
Based on what he had learned, he lectured widely on genealogical research methods, taught classes on how to do family histories and published an authoritative series of lessons about techniques and resources available for researching family trees. He had taught and counseled hundreds of area enthusiasts over the past 30 years and was particularly active in programs for retired adults.
A memorial service will be held at St. John in the Wilderness, 1st and Clark in White Bear Lake on Thursday at 1 p.m.
